I took a silver X3 30i for a test drive today, and came home to my favourite car reviewer reviewing the same car! Agreed with most of the comments. I find the options list a bit easier to understand than the GLC though. Basically add the visibility and comfort packages, and you get most of what you need. I had my heart set on an XC60 but found the ride too firm. The X3 was a lot better in that regard. The seats are way better in the Volvo though. Still undecided.
I've had mine for 2 weeks, straight from the factory. Came w/the Premium Package and Parking Assistance and 19" wheels. Heated seats and heated M-steering wheel, included. The tech, especially the safety tech, is impressive. Easy to learn and utilize. You can't beat the adaptive lighting. In Sport Plus mode, the transmission revs too high, but that is solved by using the paddle shifters. The car feels quick and fun this way. I don't have the M-Sport Package (shown here) which mainly adds just body molding and different 19" wheels. Cosmetic. No upgrade in horsepower or handling, so I had no use for that. The X3 is a huge upgrade over my 2018 X1 in luxury, performance, and appearance. Glad I bought it. Nice review, mate.
Good review but why did BMW leave the diagonal bracing behind the the black grill in silver??? Once you see it, it's very hard to un-see. Surely a coat of matt black would make it less intrusive. Other than that, not a bad vehicle.
Great review Paul, thank you. I traded a Mercedes Benz GLA in on the new BMW X3 only because after a back injury I found the GLA was a little awkward entering and exiting and I think the Merc GLC is a little bland. I love the BMW but didn’t particularly like the look of the 19” wheels so I bought the 21” M40 wheels and noticed instantly the difference in ride quality. To compensate I replaced the run-flat tyres with ordinary tyres, this fixed that problem. Also, I went for the heated seats. I love this car.
I'm loving my 2021 X3i. IMO, besides it being a beautiful car, it is an incredible driving machine. I couldn't be happier. Hope it continues to amaze me.

I purchased a white one with just 15k miles on the odometer. This car has been an excellent choice for our family, and our toddler and newborn, both fit comfortably in the back without me having to adjust my seat forward (I'm 6'2). In terms of fuel efficiency, it's been a pleasant surprise, we get around 25-27 mpg, which is pretty close to the 29 mpg my 2012 Civic was getting. I traded up from an older Honda so everything feels luxurious to me compared to what I was used to.

I drove a 2016 for a weekend, I managed an unbelievable 5L/100km on the drive back Helensburgh to the Shire. City driving short trips were still 7-8L/100km easy so I’m a bit surprising yours was so high. The integrated cargo net is a great feature, a sun roof in Australia is just a gimmick, our cars get cooked enough by our harsh sun without needing a glass roof. My verdict was it’s an amazingly efficient machine, really balanced sporty drive but I would rather lease than buy. The 2016 had some strange transmission behaviour in the city (it actually shifted into park on me twice at stop lights) but was superb at highway motoring. Maybe the electronic gremlins have been resolved in 2021 or maybe they creep in after 5 years of ownership, I will not be the customer contemplating these sorts of things, I need a reliable, safe and superbly crafted machine. At the moment this isn’t all that in my books. I’ll stick to Lexus premium quality and engineering and deal with the average tech instead.
I couldn't agreed with you more Marcus I haven't decided between new lexus nx 350h and 2021 BMW x3i. Both are my favourites but BMW looks more styling especially at2 night times. Lexus are more reliable it's really hard to make a choice.

hi, bought one 3 months back and enjoying it. Just checking on the personal assistant. Does it support only limited commands? Not able to adjust temperature or open windows etc through the commands. Is it a limitation with X3? Any idea?
Always like to watch your reviews, Paul, only for this X3, don’t really like its cup holder which sits in between dashboard and gear, also just a feedback, for other particular reviews e.g infotainment or headlights better to always keep them in the description as mostly when you said “click up here” each time doesn’t show up 😄
I have the new GLC 220d. It was a tough decision, lost a few nights of sleep overthinking, this or the X3? Drove them both and I must say I liked the X3 more in some areas. In the end it was a feel good factor in the GLC that made us going for it. I can't really put my finger on what's more special but I felt like the GLC somehow did a better job by detaching me from the mad outside world whereas the X3 was more involving but keeping similar comfort levels. The GLC reliability record is much better so that was another factor. Anyway, guess you start appreciating more the comfort and serenity as you age, typical Merc owner then🙂
G’day Paul, I have a 2020 X3 30i and love the car all except for a flaw (I believe) in the live cockpit. I will do my own upload of it but, when you next test any BMW with live cockpit fitted have a look at how much the live cockpit display and the idrive screen as in camera display etc dims when you are driving in overcast or low light, such as reversing under a tree/shaded spot, into a garage, that sort of thing. BMW in there wisdom put an ambient light sensor in the upper left corner of the cockpit display that bizarrely dims all displays when daylight inside the cabin is reduced. 😳 Here is what to do. Park the car in a shaded area, then select the reverse camera, you can do that by pressing the sensor button and then select rear camera. Now grab your mobile and turn on the torch and shine the torch on the upper left of the cockpit display and watch how much brighter everything gets. On some days you can barely see the cockpit/speedo display as it’s so dull. I took mine to BMW and they said to bad we won’t be doing anything about it despite the obvious safety issues. It needs someone in the press to get it out there before they will do anything. I have also tested this on a brand new X5 M and it’s the same. Cheers

Hi Paul, if you have to rate the Bridgestone Alenza on the BMW vs the Premium Contact 6 on the XC and Kia, which one would you recommend on a Hyundai Tucson on 19 inch wheel?
Heated seats are standard in Europe - guess they think you Aussies are hot enough. Hi qcy921, i also like 30i and thinking to have one, just wondering is there downside you dont like other than fuel? Hi Paul, what's your view between this and Lexus Rx450h which i am considering both but undecided. Thanks
@@alexizane9491 Hi Alex, I really enjoy the driving part of my 30i but there are some downsides I found: 1. rear seat is very hard and not very comfortable 2. The rear door open angle is limited 3. I fell dragging when I drive around 20km, I checked some other users feel the same. It’s back to normal after your speed more than 30km. I hope this can help:)
Its not just Australia, BMW just dont want You to have it without paying for it. Most of used BMW cars that are advertised claim they have heated seats - but true fact 90 % of them dont. And when i look at the car , and it doesnt have heated seats - its a straight no, i dont care whatever it has under the bonnet or rest of the interior. As a so called "premium" brand , heated seats should be standard across the range. At this point I'm looking for the car with both heated and ventilated seats , its 2021, sure add massage as an option but at that MSRP - they are literarlly stealing money from You. If a 30 000 US $ car can have same things on standard list a 50 000 no matter what "technology " brings on the screen should have them as well. They are still selling as a premium digital display when in fact the screen is much cheaper to produce then regular instrument cluster, They moved the trend on them b/c of the savings it provide, its lighter and cheaper (almost 3 times) and yet most manufacturers want You to pay up to a 1000 $ more for it as an option .

Thanks for your work Paul. In the theme of SUV's, would you guys be reviewing any of the Peugeot lineup anytime soon?
Potentially. Will try and track down a 3008.
Haha! Peugeot!
Nice review dude.
Please review Audi RS Q3 or Merc GLC 43
can you get laser lights for this model?
Hey Paul when you going to compare the Triton and Pajero Sport ?
Please review Audi Q3 35 TFSI...
Every other motoring journalist have done so......
can u review audi Q3 sportback??
Good review, I have the same x3 30i. Really enjoy it. But it costs 9.3L/ 100km now and my wife’s Corolla only cost 3.3-3.5L/100Km 🤣 So she wants to sell my car😂😂
😅
1 & 2 series please Paul!
Hi Paul can you do a review on the new Haval h6 please
What country are they made in??
Hi Paul, did u wear the Rado captain cook?
I’ve got a Seiko Astron 😁
@@CarExpertAus cool, btw looking forward to see the review of new BMW M3
Do you need heated seats in Australia?
Not really, unless you’re female.
Have you review the Audi Q5 since mid life update
I wish all cars had the little cup holders at the air vents !!
Hi Paul,
Can you answer a question about BMW Mercedes. There is a lot on the net about how unreliable they are, I am looking at buying one in a few years as a retirment car but i am concerned about the reliability. Do you have any input on this.
@@sperlongatours Thank you i am looking at a 30d or a 30i. Just you read a lot of rubbish on here and i wondered if you service properly will they last.
Is it a Toyota engine or do Toyota use the BMW engine
@@pb1260 Toyota use the BMW engine.

@@CarExpertAus waiting for it
It would be good if you reviewed the X1 as well.
this one has the real leather, it's not leatherette :) those should be the vernasca leather seats
so when bmw does a all black interior is nice and classy but when other do it is to dull and dark....i saw this with almost all reviewers...
Really prefer the 20d engine.
If I were to get the diesel I’d go for the 30d for the extra grunt imo
