This one was a real gut punch that broke me a bit. Percy has been my favourite character. That feint and false hope too with the metal plate was insidious.
Fun fact: in the original campaign, during the encounter with Ripley, Percy had an amulet from Pike that acted as a one-use Revivify. Ripley fully killed him once, the amulet brought him back, and she killed him again. I think the fake-out with the metal plate might be a nod to that sequence of events.

What’s even better about Liam is that he actually wrote 306. And if you thought that was amazing, there is the matter of who wrote THIS episode: _Marisha Ray._ She definitely brought the hurt this go around.
Not a spoiler - the mages at the start of the show are known as the Cerberus Assembly. They are from Wildemount, which is where their next series about The Mighty Nein takes place.
Lets go!! How cool is it to have Liam reach out to you guys! I don't blame you for fangirling! Awesome reaction as always! Can't wait for the next two!
I cried twice for this episode. Once in campaign when they went to that island. and once now, cause I'm legit scared to actually not know what are they doing with my favorite character 😭
10:48 One thing this episode shows really well is the similar pride and self-assurance that both Ripley and Percy have. They've wrapped up their entire identities in this conflict, to the point where it's not enough just to physically defeat the other - they need to convince the other that their worldview is the correct one. So instead of finishing each other off, they keep stopping to make one last appeal. Percy's intention may be more noble, but it's still wrapped up in his need to be right.
This episode was so shocking! Thank you for your reactions. I am so happy that Liam reached out to you. The entire Critical Role team is so amazing with their fans, cosplayers and reaction channels like yours.
I was just as shock about Percy as you 2 were. But i did cry, and even cried in episode 8. I tried not to, but the emotion in this show is really high. I just love all of our crew, and to lose Percy is heartbreaking. He went out a Hero though, and no longer with vengeance in his heart.

A common wizard/sorcerer spell you can get fairly early in your progression in D&D is "Fly". it lets you basically fly and hover like Superman at about as fast as you could run for a few minutes at a time. There are also more advanced spells yo can get at higher levels that let you do it for hours at a time. Good for getting to difficult places, getting out of range of ground combat and impressing the muggles.

Percy, the guy known for killing people, picked the one person that he definitely should have killed and decided to show mercy instead, and it cost him everything.
Ripley's gun glowed right after she shot Percy. Percy's gun used to do that when he killed the people on his list and one of the names disappeared. Orthax also seemed to get stronger the more names he crossed off. I wonder who else is on Ripley's list.
3:21 I think these spells the "The Assembly" mages use are D&D spells called 1st "Fireball", 2nd "Disintegrate" and 3rd "Chained-lightning". 12:49 Don't know about Zerxus but it's definitely her blood.
Fun fact but "the assembly" that attacked Ripley's village are a group that will be very important in critical role next show about their second group the Mighty Nein

There are different types of resurrection magic, some requires a death to be within just a very short time. Best thing regarding Pike is, none of us are any wiser. Her arc is completely different from what happend at the table, so even us "older" critters don't know whats realy up with her blood. So, you might be onto something there with Zerxus.
I don't think Vex's issue is being torn between Percy and her brother or really having anything to do with Vax. I think it's more her own intimacy issues of allowing herself to get close to anyone, and the emotional walls she builds.
Liam is the fanart dad! And I think that since Pike is bleeding, and since Zerxus was so fascinated by her blood, the stuff that she's smearing on the party's foreheads is literally her blood, but don't take that as canon from me, since this wasn't a part of the original campaign.
I think the difference between Percy revoking Orthax and Ripley accepting it is… well one, she’s awful. But two, the traumatic events they both endured is different. Percy lost everything because of some rich assholes who took advantage of the hate others had for Percy without knowing him and his family truly. But it was a lie and a coup. A betrayal. Ripley’s village was seized by (something they don’t tell you) THE GOVERNMENT WIZARDS! The people in power and those who run the world are the problem. The world is messed up to Ripley. I don't know what game the Everlight is playing, but I need everyone to stop messing with our beloved Pike!!
13:43 The (literal) foreshadowing... Upon re-watching this through your reactions, I don't even know how I didn't see this coming when Percy and Vex started talking about their future, rebuilding Whitestone and building a house... The effed up thing is, if Vex did not talk Percy out of the revenge act, he would've shot her, giving her not a chance to shoot him... And now Vex has to live with not just this guilt, but also that she never truly confessed her feelings to him, because she was too scared. I think they should've taken at least a glimpse of the beginning of the next episode at the end here, just to make it more obvious after all the close calls, but honestly, the song made it somewhat clear... (sung by Matt Mercer btw, written by Peter Habib, Sam Riegel's brother in law. /watch?v=Rsjx_pV3m7c) Lyrics: "So caught up they didn't know which way to go. But the bond between them felt forever. Would love win if they could only take it slow? With twisted hearts and danger faced together. But life moves fast and something felt wrong. She ran to him, but he was gone. Please let the darkness fade away. Let him breathe again. Now there's nothing left, oh. Will life ever be the same? Oh that's not how it's supposed to end no..."
The Assembly, or as they actually known, the Cerberus Assembly is a group of mages that has a lot of political pull in the Dwendalian Empire (oddly has a king rather than an emperor). Critters know the mage who seemed to be leading the assault on Ripley’s village.
So the last time you would have seen a death was back when Vex fell victim to that trap. This might have been explained to you then but it is probably worth going over again. In the D&Dverse death is rather trivial. This is a result from the game's first design where it was built from wargaming roots and they were focused on dungeon crawling, meaning going into a dungeon and killing things and getting treasure. Back then getting afflicted by curses, diseases and even death were inconveniences in your dungeon crawling. This was all handled via magic with coming back from the dead being higher level but not towards the end levels. In the more recent edition, there is a quick coming back from death spell but it has to be applied within 60 seconds. It also requires a body so you are out of luck if there is no body left. That spell happens relatively early but also has a somewhat hefty component price tag for the level it can come at. There are two more powerful versions which come several levels later and work in two different ways. One requires the body and an even more expensive component (but well within the means of any party at this level) and can be applied within 10 days. The second one has a more expensive component and has the same 10 day restriction but doesn't require all of the physical body. Just like a piece of it. That one you come back in a different body that may not even be of the same species, ex dwarf brought back as an elf. There are even more powerful versions of these that can come later that bypass some of the restrictions. So now how does this play out in the world of Critical Role? Matt, like myself and many others who run D&D games, don't like how easy it is to come back from the dead. Today's game is more narrative and not having death as a consequence strips away the stakes. Just imagine a world today where anyone with enough money can be brought back from death. It would fundamentally change society around this concept. The first quick return spell has a lesser societal impact but the longer term ones being at the level they are at is pretty nuts. So Matt put on some challenges to overcome with casting these spells, including the quick one. While technically in rules as written it would normally be possible for Percy to be brought back from the dead (something well within Pike or Keyleth's powers at this point in the livestream), that would greatly lower the stakes and reduce the emotional impact of the story. Matt leaves it up to chance whereas someone like me has banned the two spells I mentioned from the games I run, although I left the early one plus the much higher level ones in.
This was a gut punch for sure. But don't think we've seen the last of Percy, he still needs to make something from those dragon scales. Can think of a few ways they can work his return into the story based on things that happened in the campaign. Will be interesting to see how they play things. Though given that the gun glowed at the end I foresee a mission to save Percy's soul in the future.
Vax when Pike is complaining about the pounding on the billiard table ... "Could you please not make me live with the image of Percy defiling my sister on a recreational appliance?"
I'm loving that they let Ashley Johnson be more comedic this season, she's hilarious and I'm glad more of that side of her is coming across in this show. Makes me hope we'll get an animated version of Fearne one day.
its not that pike doesnt have the everlight its just ... to heal he needs to be alive and to revivify he needs to be dead max 1 minute so theres nothing she can do there
Part of me hates that he died while letting his guard down to offer mercy. I know that he moved on from his vengeance, but after all of the innocent people she has killed both directly and indirectly, he should’ve just either killed her or left her to die. She is far too dangerous to be left alive. It makes no sense to for him to try and turn Ripley to the light side.
It can be frustrating but I think it makes perfect sense. He can't tell himself that the reason why he sought vengeance even at the cost of harming himself, and his friends and family was because of Orthax if now that he's free from it decides to do exactly what Orthax wanted. Ripley deserves to die, I think Percy wouldn't mind her dying but for the character's sake killing her when she's defeated and unarmed in front of him is what wouldn't make sense.
It makes perfect sense. If he killed her, he wouldn't be doing it for justice; it'd be for Vengeance. If he had killed Ripley, Orthax would have just taken over him again.
Some critical role lore to give the Anna backstory some context: Although it is not expressly stated, the 'Assembly' being referred to is likely the Cerberus Assembly. It is a group of mages in the Dwendalian empire. They have a great deal of political influence as well. It fits that the 'Assembly' being referenced is the Cerberus Assembly. Those blue rocks could be Residuum although I thought was green-ish in color and located almost specifically in Whitestone. I only suspect it is Residuum because it is something mages would seek as it is used for magical purposes and hard to come by. It could literally be anything else though they want to make up.
Also take note of who's leading those mages, it was leaked early on the IMDB as to who it was and quickly changed, the character is being voiced by Mark Strong, the character in question is a VERY important Campaign 2 one.
and again the fault of all evil is modderflugging Trent Ikithon if you wanna hate one person its the flugging mage Trent i want to destroy the world Ikithon

/watch?v=Rsjx_pV3m7c)
Lyrics:
"So caught up they didn't know which way to go.
Dee, I think you'd look great as Vax for Halloween!
Dee could pull a mean Vax, and I think Meesh would be a great Keyleth
Hahaha that would be sick!! 🙏🏼
@@MeeshDeeReacts big couple energy!
The term is Merciful Percival.
The Assembly, or as they actually known, the Cerberus Assembly is a group of mages that has a lot of political pull in the Dwendalian Empire (oddly has a king rather than an emperor).
Critters know the mage who seemed to be leading the assault on Ripley’s village.
You'd actually look pretty sick as Vax!
WOOHOO!
@@AVJHalonen he still could’ve just left her to die if he couldn’t kill her.
@@thedarkknight2221No, Percy killing her would've been a guarantee.
You would make a good Vax.
Some critical role lore to give the Anna backstory some context:
Although it is not expressly stated, the 'Assembly' being referred to is likely the Cerberus Assembly.
It could literally be anything else though they want to make up.
also for context Delilah Briarwood was a member of the Assembly but got kicked out for messing with Necromancy.
My guess is the rocks are supposed to be brumestone, I seem to remember it being described as being blue.
Also take note of who's leading those mages, it was leaked early on the IMDB as to who it was and quickly changed, the character is being voiced by Mark Strong, the character in question is a VERY important Campaign 2 one.
A character dying is determined by the dices in the game, so in theory they dont decide for the anime
Everlight can just bring people from the brink of death and heal them, she can't resurrect people that are completely dead
