In Florida we have the Bald Cypress. Bald because they loose their green needles on the winter. They are mostly used for out buildings fence board, boat trailer bunks then covered with carpet. I imagine cypress planks would make good floor boards but not to walk around in stocking or bare feel unless you sand it first.
Cypress is no good for fence posts, the posts will rot off at the ground in one year. In the 70's a lot of the trees were cut just for that bell at the bottom. the bell was cross cut into 4" slabs and used as table tops, the smaller in diameter were cut into 2 inch slabs and used for clocks. After they were cut and prepared for table tops or clocks they were covered in a thick layer of 2 part polyurethane. The knees were stripped of bark and coated in the same way then uses as decorative pieces.
The cypress boards that are available around me are usually rough cut and a 1" board is 1" thick same with a 2" board. The widths are a full 4", 6", 8", 10", 12". After they are cut and dried they are very rough and will give you splinters if handled carelessly.
That being said the lumber is very easy to sand and makes some pretty nice boards. I took a 1 x 12 and ran it through a thickness planer and it turned out beautiful, absolutely no cupping after more than a year of just sitting on the shelf. it is a light weight wood after it's dried.
I was told by an old timer that those knees will eventually push a house off of it's foundation if it's left to grow. They are a tumor that grows off of the roots of a nearby tree. They don't become another tree.
I'm really surprised that you aren't walking around in 2 feet of water. Those trees are some pretty big trees I'd say well over 100 years old. Someone below asked it they smell like cedar, they don't
I graded one load of cypress in 25 years. We traded for it and hauled back up here.
I didn't really have any idea. So I just sorted what looked like hog house lumber. The idea was to sell for decking. We finally got it all sold. I bet a deck of it will last 200 years.. hehe,, I don't know what market it is for usually. Good fence posts I guess. Like locust ... I m in central Indiana. I found one stand of small cypress I think DNR planted when I was In state ground . Also found a stand of hemlock, We bought red cedar. (Jumiper)
Out of Missouri. Took beech to Budwweiser. 6 Quarter ,, they grind it up and beechwood age their beer, brought back cedar. We has a market for all our persimmon logs to. Guy had old gun stock machines set up to make wood golf club drivers , it will not split. Waxy inside,
Slick,, won't feed thru a planer good at all.
BUT he bought all persimmon logs.
Iiiiii just got to talk to them trees show WHO THE BOSS 😊 GREAT JOB WADE
Here in Florida Cypress are everywhere. Great vidja Tater
You had me confused there for a moment - cypress tree - in Australia we have the cypress pine which are different to the bald cypress of Indiana. We had cypress pine on our farm - Dad loved them. Beautiful tree either way and learn something every day. Keep on smiling.
Hey wade would love to see some of these cypress logs ran through the mill
I agree, would love to see that!
No hand cutting just happy to see a cutting one. Great video 👍 👍 Thanks
That’s wild to see Cypress North, you always see it in Deep South in the swamps beautiful wood for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah bald Cypress and pond Cypress
Those Cypress trees are "were" gorgeous. Sad to see 'em go down. Thanks for sharing. First time, I believe, that I've ever seen any.
Hey Wade !! If you were down in the ""Louisiana Bayous "" , I could see you cutting Cypress , but NOT in IN. ??? 😗🙄🙄 HAHA What a job & waiting to see the ""BIG SAW "" !!! 🤠😎😮👍👍👍👍👍
Learned something today didn’t ya Wade.
Would love to see those trees go through the saw mill . What is that type of wood used for? Have a good one.
Cypress is some very nice looking wood and is nice to work with .
I believe here in Alabama it's illegal to cut standing Cypress.
That wood makes the prettiest wooden flooring you will find..you need to make some...and the bell bottom makes great coffee tables. We use it to make board and batting..if they lose their leaves in winter they're probably bald Cypress..
Good morning 🌞. You made my mood alot better after crooked election day. Thanks buddy. Cypress lol
Wade against in a Wood with Huge Cyprees to cut. He cut this Trees with the Buncher in record Time. Before, to go he, to see the best Work Line. And make very good Pictures from the Trees. Greeting from 🇦🇹👍
What a beautiful office view. Certainly would make some nice table tops. Nice job. Stay safe
Beautiful stand of very nice trees
Good stuff Wade, have a nice weekend👌👍🙂
The canopy on a Cypress reminds me of the Cedar we harvest here in Maine.
When Dad retired the people worked for him gave him a clock made from a slice of cypress. I think they also gave him a bottle of 114 Old Grand Dad.
Those are big enough for tabletops.
Hi I have to go out and so can’t watch all of the video just now, but 4 minutes in and it looks great. 🙃🐝
I always thought a cypress tree was the same as cedar , but I believe I’m wrong on that now !🍔🥃
Wade great video! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Awesome video and awesome trees.
You do an amazing job and you take pride in what you do
Unique Wood. Great Vidja ❤️🏴☠️🎥💯%👍🏻🚜💰👌

What an unique opportunity to get this project! Pretty cool, Tator! How old are these you are cutting? Does it have a cedar smell when cut? Thanks for sharing...
Good stuff buddy.
Sir... Bad to the bone love the videos sir...
Cut my teeth coon hunting that very woods. That's where the name Swamp Diver comes from. The river bottoms around posey county is full of some old growth cypress.
Bald Cypress are the Giant Sequoia and Red Woods of the east coast. They are the sentinel of the forest.
Hope to see a video of yal milling it!
Looks like Roger is getting way behind hope to see what the wood looks like
was that the Twin Swamps Nature Preserve ?
Lay'em down Wade
It's a light weight wood and it's Sof To work with

What would you say the lumber from cypress would be used for?
In Alabama we use it for table, furniture, and flooring ( beautiful wood floors) and board and batting on buildings..
Morning tater
cypress does not rot
wowwwzaaaazzzz
For large diameter trees, they don't appear to have too much weight to them !!!
dont act like a flat head german!!!! spit it out. lol
