WOTC has to stuff various things - player, DM, setting, adventure - to fill the book to charge what they ask. For some reason they don’t want to do the more, smaller and less expensive books that were common in past editions.
A lot of people are more likely to buy all of the books if they’re larger and well marketed, as opposed to a bunch of smaller books dropping all the time. Maybe it would work if they did a subscription service and you got the smaller books automatically, but then you might as well bring back Dragon magazine.

Eventually the God part got dropped for Based by itself and was used a lot in internet culture and got tied to groups with anti LGBT+ views. I like to use it to describe those who support LGBT+ myself because I think it’s a fun word and I want to remove it from any connotations to it’s rather intolerant origins.
