Quintessential Cobain songcraft. The structure of the song shouldn't work and for most anyone else it wouldn't, yet he injects it with enough catchy melody and brilliant chord changes to make it better than anyone could ever expect. That sloping melody he uses as the chorus transitions back into the verse makes it blend together so well you realise this is a genius at work.
M Sharman Good Analysis! He was a genius songwriting talent. I play some rhythm guitar 🎸 and I can play a few Nirvana songs. Teen Spirit is fairly easy to play but when I realized he was a genius was when I played Lithium. You know the song. I’m so ugly that’s okay cause so are you etc. The chord changes in that song are so strange and unusual that I have problems playing it. The chord goes up then down then reverses and then goes back up again. Im used to a straightforward chord progression like 123 left middle right. Three chords going straight up for example. Lithium is all over the place chordwise and yet the lyrics fits the song perfectly. Its even a funny kind of song! When I first learned how to play the unusual chord patterns, I said to myself this is sheer genius! No one comes up with chords changes like this. I know I wouldn’t. He was different and unique! One of a kind and an amazing talent! I miss him!
Refisher I meant to say the chord changes were unusual not necessarily hard to play. It would throw me every time I tried to play lithium though because the chords changes are unusual.
Lithium is another great example and i'm glad you used it; that chord progression is 100% unique, which is pretty unbelievable if you think about all the songwriting cliches used in pop and rock music over the years. It's difficult to come up with an original chord progression and yet he managed it several times. Truly great artist.
which goes to show that its no surprise that david bowie loved the songwriting too...chord structures that the average person would never think of, or would considered to be "wrong"
They didn’t rip those bands off. They loved those bands and took inspiration from them.Thats what every band has done in history. They took that and created a sound of its own.Nirvana started a movement in the 90’s and should be cherished for it.It is ok to love more than one band you know.
@Guy Dude bullshit... Nirvana was a thousand times better than all those bands and yes I've heard of all of them... if they were as good or better than they would have been Nirvana.
Such an underrated Nirvana song. Kicks the ass off Teen Spirit in my opinion. Just gutted my musically taste hadn't let me discover Nirvana until it was to late. Would have been a blast to see them live
I was and it wasn't that great. F*cking freezing and muddy and it didn't sound like this. There was plastic flapping all over the sound system.....what your hearing here is probably the mixing desk version dubbed over. B

Kurt did tho for sure... do your research.... He wanted to be a huge rockstar and sellout completely. Just cause you think he is different doesn't make it so, he wanted his music to be mainstream and popular and to make a difference. He wanted the T-shirts.
@@JaydenWorth what he's trying to say is there is a bunch of idiots who have kurt cobain suicide letter shirts
Eugene Ax now I feel guilty cuz I have one...
It’s 2020 and Dave is still MURDERING that kit
And Tony is still CRUSHING those moves
And krist is still SLAPPING that bass
and courtney still MURDERED kurt cobain to maintain relevance for the rest of her shitty life.
Dude what the fuck
This song absolutely defines cool. Kurt wasn't even trying to be cool, and that is how it happens. Sorry Kurt, but you are right up there with James Dean and Marlin Brando after that performance
and Heath Ledger
Marlin?
MarkXV you can’t see California without his eyes
and River Phoenix
As he says, “I’d rather be dead than cool.”
love how it's fast , then slow , then fast again . one of my forever favorite songs
"ANEURYSM" THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG, IT IS SO RAW! I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT MAKES ME SICK! LOVE, CHANTAL
Hi Chantal how are you.. Super nirvana..
Luis Bravo Hi Luis, I am doing good sweetie!! I hope you are too... i was just watching some Nirvana Videos on You tube. I am looking forward to the new Kurt Cobain Bio Pic "Montage Of Heck", it is going to be on HBO on May the 4th. It is supposed to be really good and show tons of Home movies from Kurt's life from the time he was a baby up until right before his death. Anyway honey, I hope you have a great weekend!! Love and lots of kisses, ChaCha
Thanks Chantal that good know this of Kurt!! Big Kiss for you beaty!!
awesome
steven paul Hey Steven!! Love ya babe!! NIRVANA FOREVER!!! Love, ChaCha
SHE KEEPS IT PUMPING STRAIGHT INTO MY HEARRRRRTTTTTTT
Kurt and Nirvana were brilliant,period!!
You’ve got to admit Dave on those drums is pretty special
SHE KEEPS IT PUMPIN STRAIGHT TO MY HEART
The feeling when you hear this song for the first time is priceless. It took me completely for weeks.. I'll never forget it. Thank you, Kurt❤
This is legit my fave song. How can 3 boys make SO much noise that sounds good?!
The best band ever. God I miss them. original in every way.
except for their covers lol
I love nirvana. but I wouldn’t say they r completely original. they obviously took a lot of inspiration from the pixies & other bands
Soundgarden > Nirvana
I feel like Krist is an underrated bassist
He is :/
I mean, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves for being in Nirvana. Although he is a pretty cool guy, he played mainly just root notes.
Yeah, also in agreement dude!!,...Gnarly as fuck man,..keeps the track shifting along thoroughly!!! Any great bands gotta have a heavy bottom!!!
EBV well its oor mission to make sure Krist does man..lol..regards.. scotland, uk

Was 17 year's old...Best thing I've ever seen!,now 46 and I'll never forget it! ....R.I.P Kurt ❤
Artists like Kurt,Jimi, Janis, etc are shooting stars.
What a glorious band, what a performance my friends! Unforgettable! Rock n Roll will never die.
Can I please go back in time? Just for one show
Why you do dis kurt
MINEK 2DK :((
Charli dz
I would of saved him.
Me too
3:27 will always be my favorite part of this performace, Kurt and those lights making him look like a fuckin mad scientist, and he was.
Such an underrated Nirvana song. Kicks the ass off Teen Spirit in my opinion. Just gutted my musically taste hadn't let me discover Nirvana until it was to late. Would have been a blast to see them live
It's a reworked Fang's song
Love this song. So raw and intense. Wish I could have been at this concert. But, just a kid then.
+Frank O I was! It was freakin amazin. Apart from them trashing their stuff at the end. You knew they would and it was all a bit staged sadly :(
+Michael Lis what but that's like the best part!!
I was and it wasn't that great. F*cking freezing and muddy and it didn't sound like this. There was plastic flapping all over the sound system.....what your hearing here is probably the mixing desk version dubbed over. B
For the people who misconstrue the lyrics and dont realize the song is about heroin.

daysErlock yeah, some part of this song remind me the psych rock oldies like pink floyd, led zep....
she gave the puppet strings to my heart
It's actually a double entendre, it's a 'lovesick' song and can be relating to addiction of love for a person or drug yes
She has puppet string to my heart
I thought this song was about Tobi Vail.
That dude in middle translate feelings into moves
Thats what people from UK do.
Jim Wade Yeah I’m from the uk and that’s how we walk normally
LMFAO yes
the best version of aneurysm
One of the best rock vocalists ever...maybe THE best.
be sure!
@Morbo The Annihilator Vedder? Nah
I’d say vocal wise it’s between Kurt and Axl Rose. Song writing tho Kurt wins by a long shot
Ever heard of Jim morrison?
@sabbracadabra if you ever see an actual squealing pig with almost 6 octave of vocal range have respect as he ROCKS
When Nirvana questioned our world and found the perfect blend of insanity and beauty. For those moments at Reading in 1992, people moved about - up and down in a pool of hot sweat, filled with smoke and ecstasy and absolute f$cking grace. RIP Kurt.
I could never get sick of loving this song
My favorite Nirvana live song!

this song crushes so hard! the last drum fill before the big ending riff is sick af! all the years that have gone by and when I come back to Nirvana, its still soo good. I was a lucky boy to be a teenager during this crush fest!
Never get tired of it the singing alone is brilliant.
Amazing concert, amazing artist, amazing NIRVANA
Aneurysm is definitely on my top 3 favorite Nirvana songs, along with Heart-Shaped Box, and Pennyroyal Tea. But I couldn't tell you in order from greatest to least. I can't even decide which one would go where because they are all REALLY, REALLY GOOD songs.
Very similar here. Aneurysm, Frances Farmer, Heart Shaped Box, Pennyroyal Tea, Drain You, All Apologies (Acoustic),
Amazing live moment. My 90´s were all about Nirvana and i still love that band like I used to. Miss u mister Kurt.
One if the few bands that sounded better live...
metallica and gnr too
Add AIC,LED ZEPPELIN,Sabbath,the doors also
Rotten Rockstar I’d say Pink Floyd and nirvana are the only two that sound better live
@@mihailostojanovic3201 Pendulum too (In fact they don't make rock)

No way this version is way better

this song is better than teen spirit. Seriously.
Darryl Mata teen spirit is one of their worst songs
sure dude
Darryl Mata So?
Hating on the epic Teen Spirit because it was such a mega hit is just such a pathetic and lame bandwagon-jumping thing to do .. I'm so real I love Bleach the most, blah blah blah, Teen Spirit "is one of their worst songs" :/ yeah right Captain keep telling yourself that and people will find you more hip and hardcore.
John Arundell Haha completely agree with you.
Man that bass sounds killer 🤘
Greatest live band of all time
i agree and i was an Usher at concerts for over 10yrs, only band i wish i saw live. i was like 3 yrs too young lol
Now this is way freakin better then the hall of fame :), nobody can be as good as kurt because he has his own unique style of voice that can't fully be matched the same.
The only good Hall of Fame performance was Joan Jett
Did you come here right after watching that god awful rendition on the HOF? Me too...
So simple, so powerful, so glorious. What a time to be alive.
I could run through a brick wall to this song, but I could run through a wall made of granite to this rendition of this song.
Bona0608 That wall would run away from me if it saw me running at it to this song.....
Bona0608 check out my band's cover of this song!
Hmm..
prove it

The rage and happiness I feel while listening to this is magical.
That beginning is absolutely amazing.

One of the Great songs from Nirvana's catalog of songs. When I pick up my '58 electric Gretsch plugged into my old Backstage Peavey amp, my mic running through my trusty old karaoke machine for vocal, I love playing and singing this song. Power, Energy, Passion.
