It's weird to hear a CEO compared to Elon Musk being criticised. Elon is great at dreaming big. He's also great at over promising to the point of arguably being one of the all time greatest snake oil salesman. All automotive CEO's play the game but Elon takes it to another level. He's also arguably just an all round nasty piece of work. He's achieved some great things, no doubt, but to gloss over his multitude of shortcomings when comparing him to other CEO's seems unbalanced and just not credible. It took Tesla a while to swing a profit. It's going to be tough for Chinese EV makers as the countries they export to ramp up tariff's. It would be in Tesla's best interest if NIO succeeds. If Tesla are shifting to robotics and FSD, they are going to need customers for their products. Tesla had the benefit of having few if any competitors when they were getting started. The current Chinese EV market is a totally different beast to what Tesla were in at their beginning.

It's newer by 4+year's than the model Y, it uses 800+v architecture,has more efficient tires&aero. Yet it's rated for? A mere 3% better overall driving efficiency vs the larger model Y which still has more room, more POWER, more towing capacity, more standard features etc. The model Y also has sold almost 3,500,000 unit's globally now. And the updated juniper version I bet beats the onvo in every spec dollar for dollar. I love the actual same class ev segment competition though, so good job team onvo! I hope nio survives until they can ramp this up to 20k unit's a month which is what William li claims is needed for profitability. 😎👍🏻

If you think Nio’s claims are factual, why is Tesla’s model Y the number 1 selling car in the world but Nio’s is so far behind in sales compared to the model Y that you would need to use a telescope looking in the model Y’s rear view mirror to even see the top selling Nio car?

The bits left out are that it was downhill from 6000+ft (Zheijang prov to to sea level Fujian prov. ) at an average 87km/h (54mph) excluding charge stops with the temperature at the low elevations of 25C / 77F, that downhill generates significant regeneration benefits and it was still an average of 140wh/km (225wh/mi) - thouroughly unimpressive. When I drive the 20mi from my home at a mere 1200ft elevation I have more charge at the bottom of the hill than I started with at the top with -50wh/km (-80wh/mi) The first 1100km test in the EL7 was even worse 13,000 ft drop from Kungming to Beihai at sea level. I have driven 589km between charges in a lowly 60kwh Model 3 without the aid of the severe downhill gradient I'd get close to 700km from a std range model 3 under the same conditions.

I like NIO cars but if I ever got one it would need to be competatively priced and specified and I would get one with a battery upfront - battery swapping is a false economy, if this comes with an 800v architecture it will be almost as quick to charge and I won't pay 4 times for the battery over it's lifetime in rental fees. I was simply making the point that the range tests are not reflective of real-world travel - the other thing they left out is that they had to take a mobile generator to charge the battery so it could roll down the hill. The effort should be directed to making lighter and and more efficient cars with lighter batteries not simply larger ones. We have petrol cars that can do 1000km on a tank now, not because they have a 200L fuel tank and get 5km/l (11mpg) but because they get 22km/l (50mpg).

It seems to me that if Nio claims to have a better EV than the Tesla Model Y at a lower price that might carry more weight if Nio wasn’t losing an average of $30,000 for every car they sold last year. It’s easy to claim you’ve got a better car than Tesla but if you can’t show it with the numbers sold and making a profit on those vehicles then you’re only showing you can lose money faster than your competitors.

The 150 KWh battery does exist but it is only a available as short time rental in BAAS. It is too expensive to be sold out right. Just the battery pack costs about USD 40k.
I didn't think it was misleading at all. It was clear that for the 1000km range you'd need to swap for a large capacity battery and that wouldn't be an option, just like with Nio.
Tesla YOY deliveries in China have declined every year from an initial (2020-2021) 250% to 18% and still declining. Onvo, set to be released in September 2024, will take probably half of the Tesla Model Y & Model 3 sales in China, doubling Nio's annual deliveries and accelerating Tesla's decline in China.

The cash burn is just about over it’s all profit in the future and that’s what envo is going to bring them. it’s going to put the model Y to sleep. This envoy can get 150 kW battery because they do swap so you can upgrade the battery anytime you want for eight dollars a day. You can buy the cheapest battery and whenever you go on a long trip you just pay eight dollars a day to upgrade your battery to up to 150 kW. can’t be stopped all that money they spent on R&D is finally going to start paying off.
Nio is a great company and I’m very optimistic that the will make huge profit some day! I really love Tesla but there a other great companies too.

Hey EV, are you purposely bashing NIO just to get comment on your channel? You well know NIO spent $ to build swapping station and each cost way more than Telsa charging station. This resulted in what we see now NIO is forming an alliance with already 7 automakers joining the battery swapping technology. Just wait in 2 years many automakers rolling out their cars with NIO patented battery swapping technology. NIO then will be making a ton of money not through selling cars but royalty/licensing fee. Sure you well know of this but making such video to bash NIO just to gain comment is not welcome!
Lucid Headquarter also bought a NIO in California, they will strip the car to analyze to know what makes it so damn good!! This vehicle was delivered by a tow truck driver who owns 68k of NIO shares.

Lower price and similar efficiency but the fact that it can swap makes it better than a tesla imo. We also need to add the caveat that nio is an energy company and needs to invest massively in infrastructure and R&D to remain a leading innovator amongst its competitors is a large part as to why they haven’t been able to make a profit.

It's weird to hear a CEO compared to Elon Musk being criticised. Elon is great at dreaming big. He's also great at over promising to the point of arguably being one of the all time greatest snake oil salesman. All automotive CEO's play the game but Elon takes it to another level. He's also arguably just an all round nasty piece of work. He's achieved some great things, no doubt, but to gloss over his multitude of shortcomings when comparing him to other CEO's seems unbalanced and just not credible. It took Tesla a while to swing a profit. It's going to be tough for Chinese EV makers as the countries they export to ramp up tariff's. It would be in Tesla's best interest if NIO succeeds. If Tesla are shifting to robotics and FSD, they are going to need customers for their products. Tesla had the benefit of having few if any competitors when they were getting started. The current Chinese EV market is a totally different beast to what Tesla were in at their beginning.
The current Chinese EV market is over saturated, w/very thin margins & completely dependent on gov subsidies. Tesla’s diversification into charging stations, robotics, & esp self-driving tech is perfectly logical.

It's newer by 4+year's than the model Y, it uses 800+v architecture,has more efficient tires&aero. Yet it's rated for? A mere 3% better overall driving efficiency vs the larger model Y which still has more room, more POWER, more towing capacity, more standard features etc.
The model Y also has sold almost 3,500,000 unit's globally now. And the updated juniper version I bet beats the onvo in every spec dollar for dollar. I love the actual same class ev segment competition though, so good job team onvo!

According to Microsoft Copilot, Nio lost about $35,000 per car in 2023. If that is true I think Sam went easy on them. If you think Nio’s claims are factual, why is Tesla’s model Y the number 1 selling car in the world but Nio’s is so far behind in sales compared to the model Y that you would need to use a telescope looking in the model Y’s rear view mirror to even see the top selling Nio car?

The L60 will absolutely destroy the Model Y in 900v architecture, with NIO'S 500KW and 640kw ultra fast chargers!! Tesla's Y has 400v architecture & 250kw fast chargers currently.. & Onvo can also swap the battery & have BAAS.. The bits left out are that it was downhill from 6000+ft (Zheijang prov to to sea level Fujian prov. ) at an average 87km/h (54mph) excluding charge stops with the temperature at the low elevations of 25C / 77F, that downhill generates significant regeneration benefits and it was still an average of 140wh/km (225wh/mi) - thouroughly unimpressive. When I drive the 20mi from my home at a mere 1200ft elevation I have more charge at the bottom of the hill than I started with at the top with -50wh/km (-80wh/mi)
The first 1100km test in the EL7 was even worse 13,000 ft drop from Kungming to Beihai at sea level.
I have driven 589km between charges in a lowly 60kwh Model 3 without the aid of the severe downhill gradient I'd get close to 700km from a std range model 3 under the same conditions.

I like NIO cars but if I ever got one it would need to be competatively priced and specified and I would get one with a battery upfront - battery swapping is a false economy, if this comes with an 800v architecture it will be almost as quick to charge and I won't pay 4 times for the battery over it's lifetime in rental fees.
I was simply making the point that the range tests are not reflective of real-world travel - the other thing they left out is that they had to take a mobile generator to charge the battery so it could roll down the hill.
The effort should be directed to making lighter and and more efficient cars with lighter batteries not simply larger ones. We have petrol cars that can do 1000km on a tank now, not because they have a 200L fuel tank and get 5km/l (11mpg) but because they get 22km/l (50mpg).

Maybe they haven’t sued him because he’s reporting things as they are? It seems to me that if Nio claims to have a better EV than the Tesla Model Y at a lower price that might carry more weight if Nio wasn’t losing an average of $30,000 for every car they sold last year. It’s easy to claim you’ve got a better car than Tesla but if you can’t show it with the numbers sold and making a profit on those vehicles then you’re only showing you can lose money faster than your competitors.

Tesla YOY deliveries in China have declined every year from an initial (2020-2021) 250% to 18% and still declining. Onvo, set to be released in September 2024, will take probably half of the Tesla Model Y & Model 3 sales in China, doubling Nio's annual deliveries and accelerating Tesla's decline in China.
