    Great review thanks. I have the F750GS and love it - same engine as 850, 853cc, just detuned a but in the ECU mapping, different front suspension/forks/screen and wheels. Pretty much everything else is same. I can’t compare against 1250 as I’ve never ridden one, but I agree with nearly all of your comments, great handling bikes. Does dive a bit under hard braking, and requires a bit of brake lever pressure to activate the ABS, but I wouldn’t say it’s spongy. I would have bought a 1250 had finances allowed, and was after an 850, but had extensive delivery time, this one was in-stock, and test rode it, after 5min I was sold.

      I own a Honda 700 Transalp and did demo the 1200 GS and for the difference in price it did nothing for me and as I ride mostly around town it would have been overkill. I do like BMW brakes better though. With the new Transalp out last year I will be keen to demo that and will demo the 850GS as well. I have seen in a video the driveshafts go on the 1200s 1250s and a mechanic felt they were not beefy enough for the power of the motor. There sure is a lot of competition in the 650-850 adventure bike market at the moment.

    Front adjustable suspension a must. With front and rear ES can control front dive vs smooth ride vs load to tune it just right. In same day can change suspension several times depending if riding two up, with luggage, highways, twisties, gravel, sand, or whatever. Makes a huge difference compared to set suspensions on ADV bikes which tend to be too soft.

    Agree with everything you said. The only thing I'll add is the F850 GSA has better wind protection than the sport, including a bigger windscreen that's 2 position. That makes a huge difference when touring, as I'm sure you'll agree.

    I seriously considered the 850 GS. I agree that this bike has all the power and performance you can use on public roads, in a lighter, smaller and more nimble package.
    But I don't want to muck around with a drive chain any more when there are shaft drives available.
    I also like the stable front no-dive front Telelever suspension.
    And for me, an adjustable windscreen is a must these days, when they are available.
    Finally, and I'm clearly in the minority here, but I happen to dislike the sound of that parallel twin engine.
    So for me the GS 1250 was my choice, especially as most of my riding is doing long tours over several days.
    Twenty months on (after 22 years on an ST1100), and I have no regrets at all with my choice of a 1250 GS Rallye.

I did test ride the new 9GT with the split tft screen, this is the sole feature that ensured I did not consider the bike. @@ontheroadadventure yes I really like the 750. I’m an old guy now don’t need the bigger bike, go touring with my wife on the pillion and on the road regardless of the figures on paper don’t really notice a difference. The 2022 model is much better than the previous model it was only rideable in dynamic the other two modes were hopeless but now can use any. Usually use dynamic but in bad weather with a pillion or riding around town rain mode is really good as it softens the throttle response so much makes a better experience for the pillion. The biggest difference is the balance, the 1250 loaded with a pillion is great at road speed but slow riding say in traffic it feels like the front wheel is barely skimming the ground. Think the 750 has a slightly longer wheelbase and so the slow riding is a little more controllable. It will be interesting to see what the new models the F800/900 due this coming year both have 10 more horsepower and 10 more torque.

      The 850 is smaller and lighter for sure but handle well but both very different due to the front shock. The big one has no dive, did you watch both reviews? I rode the 1250 back to back with this one so a perfect comparison

    • @peterrick3339
      @peterrick3339 9 днів тому

      The 1250 has a 19" front wheel and a fat tyre, whereas the 850 has a 21" wheel and a narrow tyre. After riding GS's with 19" front wheels for about 150,000 kms, the 850 was a initially different into & thru corners and maybe tended to run a bit wide, but i soon adapted and now do not notice any issue. The 850 forks do dive a lot (compared to the 1250) but i don't brake hard (and i don't notice any lack of braking power because of maybe).
      Definitely agree that the 850 is more involving & entertaining than the 1250 because of the engine firing configuration and its feel & sound (mine is stock). Power and pull is there from the get-go, instant & progressive but at about 5000 rpm, the (electronic?) cam kicks in off the feck it goes. Power enough for the real world.
      Some after market adjustable fork cartridges may make this bike into near perfection. But not a cheap fix.
      Still, for me, it's a bit too high & heavy after the 1250 GSA but an improvement. Seat is not as comfortable nor is wind protection. More $$$ to make better. :(
