    Great review. Im close to 5000 mi on my 310GS. Absolutely love it. Fun and easy to ride. Reliable. It was Short on fuel range but since I went to a 17T front sprocket it gets better mileage and much better at highway speeds. Best $20 Mod out there.

      No. 1st gear is pretty low so no issues on the low end with it. Try it. Takes 15 minutes to install. Same amount to Uninstall if you don't like it. Also. Looking to order a Rally Raid Level 2 kit as soon as they're back in stock.

    • @Sasqmoto
      @Sasqmoto  6 місяців тому

      I'm going to try 2 gears and see how much they affect it. someone said to try a 15 for off road as well. I'm looking at that rally raid too. it's the price that is crazy. touratech has a kit for around 400 that has a front spring and back but you don't get all the adjustments or additional height.

      @Sasqmoto I agree. If I didn't have plans to keep this bike I wouldn't spend the money. But I'm keeping it long-term, so I want a better suspension. A 15T would gear it way down. I don't do any single track so no need to do that for mine.

    Excellent review. I bought a Honda xr150 as my first motorcycle in 25 years back in September. After 2 months, went back and got a 310GS. Been riding that for about 4 months now and enjoying the BMW very much (though still have the xr150 as a spare bike). I can see moving up to a larger bike in another year or two, but for now the 310GS is a fantastic intermediate bike in my opinion.

    Thanks for a great review. I own a BMW G 310 GS as well.. Everything you stated is true, and while I have owned two Suzuki and two Harley's the only thing I miss with this bike is it's ability to cruise on the highway around semi-trucks. But what you gain in off road capabilities, makes up for it.

    • @Sasqmoto
      @Sasqmoto  6 місяців тому

      That is very true! my other motorcycle weighs over 500 lbs and is not effected by semi trucks, but the weight on the g310gs is light and easier to maneuver. thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

    Youre review is spot on. I have a 2018 G310R and have not had a single problem. I use it for convenience runs and it is always a pleasure to ride. I live in South Africa and the traffic here is not youre friend and I never felt that I need more power. The discussion of these bikes being underpowered is irrelevant. You know that you get what you pay for and that engine capacity determines the power output. The Ktm 390 is nearly a 100cc more. I learned to ride on a 50cc and the difference between the BMW and KTM is sufficent for a complete bike on its own.

      Hi, Thank you for the compliment. It's nice to hear from others around the world. I am glad that I am not the only one that feels the power is sufficient. it goes and it's a blast to ride, never a dull moment. it does a great job for what it is. Thank you for the comment and ride safe!

  • @UltralightMotorcycleCamping

    I"m the same size as you and I'm surprisingly comfortable on this bike that's smaller than it looks. I bought mine new, sight unseen, over the internet, without even seeing one in person, so the fit was a relief although I am planning on getting the tall comfort seat from Seat Concepts to give me a little more leg room at the expense of making it more difficult to mount (I got old somehow and the hips don't work very well) and making it an inch more difficult to put a foot down.
    I wanted larger pegs for off road use so I spent $200 (ouch) on Pivot Pegz, but they are very nice.
    I've had my 2019 G310GS for 3.5 years. The generous three year factory warranty has expired, unused. Like you, I've had zero problems. It's never been back to the dealer because I do all of my own maintenance, annually, per the service schedule. I got a good deal on my new G310GS because it was one that BMW took back from the dealer to fix the kickstand issue and it was returned to the dealer in the fall with the 2021 models coming in the spring so BMW and the dealer lowered the price to move it in late October.
    I'm still farkling. I recently mounted some ridiculous 18,000 lumen amber LED lighting but I still need to wire it. I highly recommend the Koso Apollo heated grips. The inside of the right grip needs to be filed to thin it slightly to fit over the throttle sleeve but once installed it looks like factory heated grips - very high quality and no goofy control box. The controls are all integrated into the left grip. This is the first time I've had heated grips and I was surprised that I use them all the time. I'm installing a heated seat when I upgrade to the Seats Concept seat.
    My only real con is the 2.9 gallon fuel tank. An ADV bike should have a 5 gallon fuel capacity or more. The fairings could be extended more to provide even more wind and rain protection for the rider's legs. For now, I carry two 1 liter fuel bottles, which is a lousy way to add 30 miles to the range.
    I most go on 300-400 mile day rides but I'm looking forward to many more moto camping adventures on my G310GS.
    Thanks for the video. I wish there was no soundtrack, but starting around 13:00 it was so loud that I wasn't able to hear your comments.

    I have mine in Colombia. I've only been able to ride it for about 3 months. I crashed it so many times over there, mostly because of the fact that I have only a 30 inseam, and up in the Andes, nothing is flat, and there is constant treacherous terrain, to have to deal with. So, while I'm at my home in Alaska, I'm occasionally ordering aftermarket parts and new gear, to send to my place down there. That bike has the perfect power and speed for everything I'm willing to ride through, down there, but it's tall for me, so I tend to get off camber quite a bit, just trying to park, mount, and dismount the darned thing. Just sent down the Touratech suspension lowering kit, which I hope will help me avoid laying it over on its sides. I'm also disabled, so that doesn't make it any easier. I used to ride a 1000 ADV bike years ago, and that thing would be more of a pain on the rear, to use down there. Contested city traffic, to narrow twisties in the mountains, to the asphalt disappearing to be replaced by massive washed out pathways at times. Even the little towns in the mountains have super steep roads and store fronts, that offer super awkward angles lined with so many other motorbikes. Using large motorcycles is considered super ridiculous by almost everybody down there. I actually would love to get a 300ish maxi scooter down there as well. Something I don't have to swing my leg over to mount it, and that would be so much more practical and commonly used by majority of the commuters there. They actually use mostly 125's, give or take a few. I weight twice the average Colombian though, so 300's generally put me in the most efficient, yet highly entertaining and comfortable size and power range, for the area.

    • @Sasqmoto
      @Sasqmoto  5 місяців тому +1

      That's a very interesting take on the your situation. You should post some videos on the Colombian roads. I would love to see them. There is also a lower seat that you can get that might help. I also saw a lowering bracket for the rear shock on Amazon. Another viewer also lowered the kickstand by cutting it and welding it back together. Thanks for watching the videos. I appreciate it!

      @@Sasqmoto I took two iPhones down to record videos, and was able to post a little bit, with very poor editing, but I took all my vids off. Both of my cell phones got ruined down there. My first one that went down, was because my motorcycle vibrated it to death. I still have it, but the camera doesn't work. The other phone I had, got smashed in one of my crashes. It got bent like a banana, but still was functional. The phone I'm using now is the replacement. I finally bit the bullet and got myself a new computer, very recently, after not having one for well over a decade. I also bought me an Insta 360 cam, and then an Apple editing software, in the hopes I'll have it in me to produce better quality videos, with editing. I have severe ADHD, so it's super challenging for me to stick with anything, until it gets done. Wish me luck.

    The only issue I find with this motorcycle is the inability to switch off the ABS. I ride a VOGE 300DS, which has the same motor as the G310GS, but the overall package is suited for road mostly due to the 17-inch front tire and Chinese suspension. I would like to switch to BMW G310GS if they make a model with switchable ABS. The older models with the switchable ABS have problems with the throttle and the clutch (which have appeared in my motorcycle as well because they share many components)

    My first bike, pre-owned with Rally Raid level 2 already fitted.
    Riding continental TKC 80s. Good in wet & dirts, but have bought a Motoz Tractionator Adventure for the back to get same grip, twice the mileage.

    I bought one last Oct. I put on 6k miles. It goes in for it's second water pump next week. Not thrilled with that.
    Only issue is seat height. I find an Airhawk R seat custom is a must, which doesn't help. 6', 250 lbs. It will readily do 70 mph for hours. It gets 77 mpg.
    I've been considering a different bike. Tested both a gs 650 & 800 this week. Ride and comfort not even close to the 310gs!
    Might be difficult to find a better bike of this kind.

It is certainly a nicer bike to ride on the highway than my 2019 RE Himalayan (G310GS Can cruise faster/easier/smoother), but the BMW is easier to stall taking off at a stoplight (less low end torque, and I live at 7000+ feet). I am going to use it for a journey of a couple thousand miles. it is very sturdy and can hold 600lbs or 272 kilos. it's a little heavy but can be easily slid into the trailer hitch. here is the link below. thanks for watching www.amazon.com/Black-Widow-MCC-600-Motorcycle-Carrier/dp/B00WFIJ362/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=BZ26QF1QU3Q7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.z5rrRCatHF7R8DuMwKjaDWlkn4mXYP-bw0I8zdGKH_1iiFH56vVrt73Hxt18SEzC4eGzQ5oGBWtX-zVLbl419G1s7DBJ6UZL1SjE53kc7HQqR8w5pSJA2EV4yInARpSqq45wROTR82ZYJexmNh3nEGiqdtvVmy6BXpHasD22dd0EHyusZxgdbD1SUbfPfnlIgs4L8Ro4KEEqd2AD98QMMg.UVEA0p5t0fDe1tqbN-hiHsROXFAzvkQC3uLqAQ0XiF4&dib_tag=se&keywords=black+widow+motorcycle+carrier&qid=1713808515&sprefix=black+widow%2Caps%2C343&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

    Is it to tall for 5’8 120 lbs? I’m a very experienced rider but I prefer shorter motorcycles. Looking for a less aggressive motorcycle than my buell for just riding back roads. I tried a ninja 300 but it wasn’t for me. I’ve never ridden or even sat on an adv bike apart from an Africa twin which I couldn’t touch the ground on even on my tip toes.

      Some of the bigger dual sports can do it too, and people will get a 500 or something to modify into a slightly more road worthy vehicle, but in the end its not going to be comfortable for long trips on the road like a road bike is. I have a 501 that I take over to the olympics and into the cascades all the time without issue, but everyone's going to have different tolerance levels.
