- This is a review of the Leatherman tools Free P2 plyer based muli tool. I’m this review of the Free P2 I talk about the overall design and tools of the P2. I talk about the new drop locking system that is introduced in the tools for the knife and other tools. I rave about how good the scissors are compared to the GOAT, the Victorinox Scissors. I talk about the ease of carry and overall EDC mindset that I think this tool perfectly fits into. I show the smooth action and magnetic open and retention of the plyer handles and individual tools. The way the slip joint plyers handles snap into place. I bring up my issues with the “one size fits none” Phillips head tool and the lack of a adapter being sold by Leatherman or a bit driver being built into the tool out of the box. The capable but definitely small file, the excellent awe, as well as too many redundant flatheads on this multi tool.
I do overall think this tool is great, but it does have some improvements or at least futher support from Leatherman to make adapters or improvements from its original format.

I swapped the scissors and the blade so that now it's the ONLY multi tool that's left handed and one handed! Love this free p2!

I don't plan on taking my P2 apart again because it is a bit of a hassle to put the washers back in correctly, it would be a long video😂
All I did was remove the torqs screws and swap the scissors and the blade. Make sure you get the washers back in! I also put some grip tape on the scissors to make it easier to open and close them from the handle because they will be in backwards and it's a little too smooth :)
Have fun, it's not that hard, just time consuming, but so worth it!
Almost all the Leatherman employees consider this the overall best one
Why would they consider this the overall best one? I have this one and know why I like it, yet still don’t consider it the best by any means. Most videos on UA-cam do not like the P2 when there are so many other Leatherman options.
I have the P-2 and I love it especially for the ease of use but to be honest I got rid of the 4 useless small tools like the file,awl,the depth gauge “thing” and the most useless of all for me the can opener. I replaced those for a metal 3D printed bit exchanger which I think cost me an extra $40 bucks but now the tool is way more useful and is much better to use for my hands which have lost some dexterity over the years. I carry a dedicated knife on me so the blade on a Leatherman is kind of secondary but at least a 154cm steel wouldn’t have killed them. You shouldn’t have to mod the tool in with something that should have been put in the first place but it is what it is.
The FREE series is the *best* from LM. I don’t care for all those stubborn two-handed nail-breaker SAKs. I think LM failed on the advertising because the tools aren’t equally good compared to the other top models. Hopefully, they’ll continue with these one-handed in future editions.
A quick tip from me is to purchase the P2 new from eBay! It looks like resell is much lower than MSRP because of the failed advertising.
I don’t get the hype with the free series. The one hand operation is nice, but it has the exact tool set of the wingman and it’s twice the price

P2 is a great light handyman edc toolset.premium build Easy to deploy .and no parts or bits to loose or drop.prob not for trade work. Seen them as low as 80$

I think those are good in a pinch but I’m a firm believer that the right tool for the right job and my experience with these tools is in most cases it makes that in fact happen that you really need the right tool for the job unless it’s a emergency type situation I wouldn’t really want to use this tool!!!!!
This isn't a replacement for your tool set Henry.... This is a " on me right now" tool that has so many uses..... I cannot tell you how handy these things are .. yes there are better tools.. but try carrying all of them in a knife sized package on your belt..
Sometimes the best tool for the job is the one you got with you.
Totally agree with your comment. For me it is the best pliers for edc from the market
