Hey guys, I am building a 60 series in memory of my old man. Come along for the journey as i take you through each step and offer advice and tips along the way.
Bloody hell Matt, 10 seconds in and you have me hooked. In memory of your father, damn boy that’s special 😢 I can’t wait to see the build . I have no doubt he will will looking down beaming with pride .❤
It’s going to be an awesome tribute to you’re dad. So well thought out I’ve got a GU but learned a lot from the driveline rundown. Already looking forward to following your build.
The level you have gone to for the plan shows you know you stuff. These sorts of builds will help and teach people who might not know anywhere the level of building cars you do.
0:28 if I want to do something similar at home... Oh how I wish I could, but first I would need home to be in a place where some 60ties survive and is not extremly rusted or totally restored like here, and maybe even more important, be dirt cheap so I could afford even the most rusted junker... Maybe I will just watch this youtube series and dream a little bit 😆 Not that I am envious or anything, ok maybe a little bit, but good on you for being able! I will enjoy following along 😁 🤣 Ok, now I actually watched, and not much 60, so technically that they are all rusted away in my part of the world would not matter, still going watch as seems an interesting build!
Matt this is going to be very informative and interesting to watch. Sorry to hear about your dad. You would be doing him proud. Keen to learn especially the cad- cnc brackets definitely seems like the best way to make neat products in a decent time frame rather than swing off a grinder.
Good on ya Matt. Looking forward to watching this series, been lucky enough to meet your dad on a few occasions and watching this video made me want to spend more special moments with mine while I still can 😢.
Going to be a great build mate. Can't wait to learn a few things. Especially keen on the GU centre into 105 housing. I own a 105 with a bit of power and have destroyed front diff in the past. So might be something to do in the future. Cheers
Fair play to you Matt, not seen you on UA-cam for a while, think last time you was with Jocko, looking forward to this build series, really like your work, and your calm sensible approach , which most people seem to lack, its all about the show rather than the go with most UA-camrs.., your old man would be proud of you.... 👍
I absolutely love those wheels. I’m sure they won’t suit the finished product. But there is just something elegantly simple about an 80s/90s fourby on white Sunraysias. It always puts a nostalgic smile on my face. 😊
This is wholesome mate, love to see it. Wishing you all the best, I can’t imagine losing my father. Looks like he was a charger on the tracks haha! He’d be proud 👌
Hey Matt. I’ve been waiting for this video. Did you know the Sahara 80s have a viscous transfer case which may suit your needs better. My 105 does spin the front quite easy especially in the wet when towing. Also I’m very interested in the CAD stuff.
Hey Matt. I have seen those but not had anything to do with them, do they still have a functioning diff lock and same external dimensions or are they different like the part time ones?
@@mattkinselayes they have a diff lock. They run a different tailshaft length. Iirc. There’s 3 tail shafts in 80s. Manual DX, auto and viscous. Also I don’t know if you can modify an AWD to be Viscous.
Been watching you for years building rigs. When forums were a thing. Learnt alot from you. Your old boy was obviously a good dad. Great tribute to him and he would be proud as punch. I'm in Are we gonna see a 24v highmount maybe. As far as what we wanna see. I'm a boily/cad guy so I would need out with that stuff and how you workout suspension geometry
I liked your ways back in that first nulon video years ago(I think it was nulon, maybe it was 4wd action?). Clearly you have become a very successful engineer since then and I’m so keen to see this build!!
Radius arm on a road car I think man, simple and works, plenty of travel when setup right. Fitting a 3 link in a car that isn’t a monster truck from America is hard!
@mattkinsela thanks I'm putting patrol diffs in a 1952 willys pickup and have some 80 series radius arms. I was looking at some videos of you flipping them on top of the housing.
Have you considered The land rover LT230 transfer case, all gears no chains, full time 4wd, lower low range 3.32:1 reduction available for upto 5:1, couple downsides like the intermediate shaft needing to be sleeved.
That was the first option actually mate, but cruiser transfers are easy to source, and pretty reliable, I didn’t wanna be chasing random parts for an lt230 on the side of a track one day basically, and it probably leaks being a rover part 😂
Hey Matt, I think you need to dive deeper into the lt230 world. There companys making lsd center for them and people run 6bt cummins with stock lt230 and never brake them. There are also what's called a evolution transfer case for the ultra4 boys in the UK useing lt230 gearset but in a billet case pretty sure there made buy sycro gearboxes. Also yes there rated at 4t but have a look at the down ball weight as it's only 140kgs at the 4t tow rating.
This is going to be such a good build series! 🤘🤘🤘

Keen as for this build! And keen as to learn some things along the way! 💪🏼💪🏼
Hopefully even a bloke with experience will pick up a tip or two!
This is going to be awesome. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
It’s going to be an awesome tribute to you’re dad. So well thought out I’ve got a GU but learned a lot from the driveline rundown. Already looking forward to following your build.
I would literally buy a chassis off you! You had me hooked in the first minute
Thanks mate
that is awesome, keen for this build series 👌
You and me both!
The level you have gone to for the plan shows you know you stuff. These sorts of builds will help and teach people who might not know anywhere the level of building cars you do.

I love watching builds that are "frankensteins" like this one is. Ive got a design of a "frankenstein" i want to attempt when i have space.
Absolutely awesome mate don’t give up I’m sure your old man would be frothing it
Keen to see the radius arms, might give rangie builds easier front diff options

Very excited
Gonna be a weapon 💪
Hopefully!

This past week I was looking at buying a 60 to replace my N60 hahah what a coincidence that I found this video
Natural progression bro!
@@mattkinsela super keen to watch this series, cheers mate!
Heaps keen to watch this build come together 🤙
I absolutely love those wheels. I’m sure they won’t suit the finished product. But there is just something elegantly simple about an 80s/90s fourby on white Sunraysias. It always puts a nostalgic smile on my face. 😊
Yeah they do hey!
Great video Matt, going to be a great build to watch. Looking forward to the next episode 😀
Good job man get in to it 💪🏼
This is going to be a great build Matt and your dad would have loved to helped you with this build. Toyota for the win
Yew les go
That line on Climies! Bob had good taste 4wds, I spied a 55! Looking forward to the series
He sure did mate! Only missed out on a 300 series
Wow. I learned a lot in that first ep and I built my coiled 55 the hard way! .. with a lot of cardboard and grinding.. can't wait for the CAD episode.
Sounds like it might be a bit late 😂
Cool. Be good to see the GU front diff part. I'd like to do this to my 105
Yeah I’m sure there will be a few keen to learn more on that one!
I am going 2 be watching every bit of this series.
Thanks Matt. I think the way you are explaining things so far. This build series is gonna be good.
Thanks mate
Cant wait for this, sounds like its gonna be an epic build
This is gonna be sooooooooo goooooood
Keen to see this 🎉
This is wholesome mate, love to see it. Wishing you all the best, I can’t imagine losing my father. Looks like he was a charger on the tracks haha! He’d be proud 👌
Thanks man
New follower, keen to watch you build this mate good on ya
Subscribed and following. This sounds like an exciting build and I can learn a lot from your skills and experience.
Hope you stick around and can pick up a thing or two mate!
Subscribed. Owned many 60s and this build sounds amazing. Great video mate 👍

Looks like this is going to be an interesting build, good luck and looking forward to watching the build
Thanks mate
This is going to be siiiick
Keen as for the build. Excited for the next episode on how to CAD and send it through online to be made. As well as the rest of the series.
Yeah it’s had a lot of great feedback, I started it yesterday so hopefully not too long!
Been watching you for years building rigs.

Thanks mate, he sure was.
Oh shiiiiit, this is gonna be good
Keen for this one
Sounds like a much better engine choice and set up after another 80 series chassis swap a little while ago
I liked your ways back in that first nulon video years ago(I think it was nulon, maybe it was 4wd action?). Clearly you have become a very successful engineer since then and I’m so keen to see this build!!
Thanks mate, good memory yeah it was a nulon born this way ep
When your doing the 4 link, can you run thru arm separation and all the anti squat values etc plz 🙏🏽 also yes on the cad episode
No dramas mate will do
Would be good to see more detail on the diff swap when you get to in
Yeah will do mate
Sounds like the perfect combination of parts but lost me at landrover chassis
Sorry mate!
Can't wait for the build. What is your opinion on front radius arms vs 3 link.
Radius arm on a road car I think man, simple and works, plenty of travel when setup right. Fitting a 3 link in a car that isn’t a monster truck from America is hard!

How did the wheel base of the rrc chassis work with the cruiser?
60 is like 180mm longer
@@mattkinsela did you have to extend the rrc chassis to make it work?
No it’s enough to sneak it into each arch front and rear
Great build. I assume the range rover wheelbase is smaller than the 60 series? Are you planning a chassis extension?
It’s just under 200mm so should be okay to move the diffs forward and back in the wheel arches of the chassis to suit
ur friends with jocko aren't you? u helped him with the pony build. Love ur sas luxy
Yeah I am, and yeah I did, good memory!
Whats the plan for the hilux then?
Unfortunately I’m going to part her out to fund this build, keep a few parts for it to keep the dream alive
leave it as is and take it around AUS!
Where’s the fun in that!
HA,HA,HA
Frankenstein upgrade mate can't wait to see finished .
