As a T.O.D.U follower and Australian addict I just love the intro. Great to hear you again, and that '60 is gonna turn out into an Elegant Feed me More Beast. ¡¡PURA VIDA!!
This will be amazing to follow along with keep up the great work mate
Great vehicle. Excited for you enjoy the adventure of the swop.

Fun Fun Fun.....there goes all your weekends and time after work for a while, can't wait for the progress videos to come out. Keep up the great individuality in your designs and builds 👍
Never had any anyway haha
Love the 60's, I've got a fj60 running 350 chev, just gave it a massive bday w the rust and absolutely loving it. Keep up the good work 🤙
yeah mint! and thank you:)
Shish you've really got a big job there. Looking forward to watching the resto of your new toy. Shag pile carpets, who would of thought 😂😂

Terrific vid dani. Love your channel! Mars and you are the best!
Thank you!! Mars certainly thinks he is the best haha
sheeeesh that 60 is CRUSTY
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!! So STOKED to see it all go down. doing a few 60 builds on my channel as well.
I dig the brown!
Hi Danie Nice Video good luck with the project Thanks
Sick!!!!👌
The box in the very back on the drivers side is for the rear aircon🤙🏻
Love the 60!! Can’t wait to see the finished product, tho me personally I’m more into the 80 series but it’ll be good to learn what a 60 is all about so thanks for doing this build!! Keep up the great work.
Cheers!!
I wish I had gotten an HDj81 a couple years ago before they shot up. But my 60 series will suffice.... lol
@@mark2073 yeah haha, they’re expensive now but oh well
Yay she’s back 😊
That brown interior is dope
Gotta love the shirt! 👍👍😍❤️🍺
On behalf of everyone, we missed you Danie. Looking forward to your new project, very nice old wagon. Totally agree with the over pricing for second hand stuff. I'm more into bikes and people are dreaming, some of the clapped out old junk they try to sell at high prices.
Its crazy hey! But yes good to be back
Very cool. Definitely miss my 60s
Message you some bar pics on insta
Hey Danie, glad you're back, So been waiting for this project! If you've ever owned a HJ61 with a good 12HT you'll keep it, or regret you ever sold it! That engine is like a mini 6BT and the low down torque is just as addictive..I did end up having my chassis and axle housings modded to take light coils all round with reduced leaves .. amazing on corregated gravel, so worth it ..So much so, I skipped over the 80 and jumped to an FTE auto converted 105 that's my daily .. but every time I turn the key on the 12HT in my 61, I just smile and think, I am never selling this to anyone! NB- Thanks for appreciating the cruisers that don't get the fanfare - the 60 is the unsung hero of the 4wd wagon world!
That's so awesome to hear!! I've heard a lot of people regret selling them
@@DanieSimpson I have been approached by so many regretful previous owners over the years, just to tell me to keep mine .. so many times in fact that over the last 25 years of ownership, that all 4 of my children have heard it so often in our travels .. that the one time I mentioned selling it, I got the towelling of my life from them .. it stays in the family as an heirloom and my mechanically minded daughter (22yo) has dibbs on keeping it forever!
It's seen Cape York so many times it knows the way to our fishing spots and has taken us to the NT the back way through Borroloola towing 2000kg camper and boat .. never missed a beat in its near 600000km life to date!
mars sounds so similar to my kelpie muddy 😂😂
also so keen to watch this build!
Awesome as danie .🍺❤️
Yes to the beer emoji imma grab one now haha
@@DanieSimpson awesome as
Gday Danie, been waiting for this video, it’s going to be a great series to follow and looking forward to every minute, thanks mate, Cheers
Thank you!!! Appreciate that:)
She’s back! Yayyy.
Haha been back awhile now:)
Good job dada lovely from Tanzania 🇹🇿
Thank you!
Hi Danie good to see your smiling face and relaxed way you have to your channel.
Yep I have a project that I decided to build something in lock down so now it sits as life has moved on and changed and like you not paying well over the odds for the parts required. And now we can go out to play so it sits gathering dust and rust as sitting outside again.
My hound does the same I think it is because he is spoilt now being on only dog, see later babe.
Thank you! And yeah it's a bit of a shame hey!
Yes! up the 60. Ive had 4 now. Its a sickness.
Classic ARB bar if you can find one will easily fit the pto winch with a bit of modification
thank you for the beauty detail video and share other
wish the best rebuild of the wagon as look special great finish
think you should bullbar off another one on too this rebuild is diff from the other 4x4 60 wagon
love 4x4 Isuzu 4x4 truck
I did a 12h into fj62 around 8 years ago and mounts needed to be chopped. From memory was only the drivers side mount about 25mm back. Other then that just swapped the dash cluster and wire harness and was mint.
Awesome thank you!!
Pro-tip: Just forget about the fate of the donor. Just take what you need from it and send it off to a breaker yard.
If somebody wants to buy it and rebuild it, that's their problem, not yours.
You gotta be ruthless about this stuff or you'll end-up with a yard full of "fixer-uppers" that you never get rid of.
I have no issue holding onto things until the right price and buyer comes along. No dramas at all
Amazing Danie! The COVID tax on vehicles is ridiculous😭 100% would go for the grey interior, bring on the 60🤙
Looks like many hours of fun removing and refitting coming up. I love the t-shirt also Danie. Ill stick with my 80 series tho and I love the wagon side of things, so much can be done with a wagon. ~;0)
Yes agreed! Wagons have so much space for ideas!
@@DanieSimpson And you can get away from the flies
Keep the gray interior it looks nice!
Bubba? That’s the same thing I call my dog ( buddy ).✌️❤️
Might be cool to design and build your own bill bar for it 👌😊
Raslarr have done a 60series bullbar and is pretty neat but hard to go past ARB for practicality.
Great vid as always Danielle 👍🏻😎
I'll suss it out cheers!
For those little things like engine mounts, you should hit up Mr Landcruiser. I’m sure they’d run you through the essentials of the swap 👍🏼
We will have no dramas with the mounts:) luckily jobs like that are pretty standard at my work. Best to always take your own measurements rather than follow someone else's procedure. Always small differenced between vehicles, especially with imports
Big 60 fanatic i myself that gray 60 nice and clean
Yes was very lucky to find it!
@@DanieSimpson keep it before you end up regreting it been there and many years passed i still regret mine :-)
Grey 60 is clean 👍
Drop the roof lining and rust prof inside. They rust from inside out. Air con so cold u get condensation inside and rear vents on back pillars break down and let dust into roof area inside. Awsome old girl.
The rusty body will be sold not repaired
I'm in Canada and picked up a 1982 BJ60 I'm restoring. It has amazingly little rust for a Canadian vehicle. It all works, just needs a refresh, it's pretty tired after all these years.
That's awesome!!
I have an alloy bar that mine had on it btw, accommodates the provisions for the PTO winch but the wings angle back in nicely to give some better approach clearance, all yours if you're keen but it's in WA
All good just chasing ideas for now:)
Oh an one thing that would be handy if you end up using it for touring speak to arb for one of thier long range plastic tanks as it will cut down on wieght an never rust an of course run bash plates the lenght of it to protect it even more . Be alot more comfirtable on long trips plus you will be able to hear yaself an only half the rattles of ol boy lol . Great addition to the shed the 60 .
Thank you sounds like a great Idea!
Cool cool nice
Another great video….you got a lot of work to keep you busy 😂😂👍
Speak to Roothy he is your man and my last upgrade on my 12ht 60 series was to a 100 series factory turbo diesel way to go👍🍻
Yeah mint!!
its going to be a mad rig for ur second car
Nice rig, Manual for sure
Will be keeping the auto mix it up from the manual 75
I had a HJ61, motors are awesome but hard too get bits for now. When you do the engine swap as you have herd the engine mounts on the chassis are different from petrol to diesel. I used to work in a wrecking yard in Sydney called east coast 4WD. We did a few engine swaps and we cut the rivets holding the mounts too the chassis then set the motor and box in, bolting the gearbox too the cross member then bolt the chassis mounts to the engine and mark the rivet holes onto the petrol chassis. Not sure what the rules are in Queensland but here in nsw your not allowed to weld a chassis so we bolted them through the rivet holes. Hope this helps.
Cheers for the info!
Definitely can weld to chassis in any Australian state just must be done to a particular standard and by qualified persons
I think you should keep the original front bumper bar and PTO winch cos it's unusual just changed the top
Gday young lass you have a big project ahead of you,12ht and a PTO nice get. Be nice to convert to 12v,the 12ht and my other car have the same 12v alternator with the pump at the back. Don't no if you want to convert but it might be worth it. Twenty thousand would be a good spend but my old timer cost me double that. It adds up,tyres, bull bar, lights, auxiliary tank, roof rack, diff lockers, suspension lift, raptor coat and so on. The best accessory is a milk crate.😉
Yes 12v would be ideal:)
I do all my own work and fortunate enough to get trade pricing on most parts so shouldn't be too bad
I like your vid intro, its super well done.
Oh thank you that means alot!!
I remember the 80 series Sahara did the rear AC the same way, with a big box in the boot and a clear tube up the pillar.
I actually like the brown better, but that's probably because all we get these days is black and grey, so anything else is more interesting.
Yeah but I've got brown in the 75 so a decade of brown makes grey look real nice haha
I love the shirt!!
Also because I have owned a fj62 for 12 years I think you should do a rear quarter panel chop and wrap a rear bar around to the wheel arch.
They stick out along way in the back past the diff housing and tend to get hung up on a lot of stuff.
I won't be cutting anything sorry
Yeeeeeeeeeeew!!☮️❤️🙂
Shawn whale has a cool front bar on the dirty 30
I’m in the middle of fixing up a hj61, one owner and bought right in Emerald where I live in 1983!! Low k’s and been sitting on a farm for the last 20 years absolutely rust free!! Just found your channel, new subscriber here, looking forward to seeing what u do with yours👍🍺
Oh wow what a find!!
Danie Simpson yeah pretty happy, promised the old guy I would get it back on the road, so I’m committed haha , love your dog as well!
@@Mrbeast0099 yeah definitely worth it the old 60s:)
Danie Simpson for sure , absolute classic, love the channel 👍
you can fab a bull bar for the 60 with winch mount and scrub rails too
I sure can
G'day Danie I love the shirt 🍻
Why thank you!😅
Funny as you mentioned trucks the first time as i paused you for that very reason , trucks that loud in this nieghbourhood that you can hear them for 3 mins . I would be keepin that front step as you bieng short would help you alot . Marsy bieng the awesome boy he always is .
Would be a great step that's for sure haha
glad to have seen this video. brings me up to speed with the project. have seen insta posts many times and wasn't sure of the go.
I'd say rather than buying a heap of real hard to find expensive parts you'd be best using the rusty 60 as a donor and selling all the other bits to someone who is going to restore the rusty one?
the brown interior looks much more complete and has many more features and is less broken so go with that :)
good luck with it
in this video I discuss using the donor vehicle and selling it afterwards to someone who will restore it, not buying expensive parts. Also the brown interior is the broken one and missing more
@@DanieSimpson haha ah yeah my mistake. I more meant you said thing like flares and mudflaps are expensive so I presumed the rest was too. Looked like the grey door trims and handles are busted maybe I didn't look at the brown one so close.
If I had the time and somewhere to do it I would rebuild my 105 from ground up. But I don’t sadly
You could always have a bull bat made from scratch, it costs more but it is not an uncommon thing & like you said, you like unique things, so it might be an opportunity to make something that is unique to you & the build.
Yeah that's definitely an option just always like to see a design style in person
Good place for a water tank where you removed the gas tank from
Try Mr Landcruiser for parts and advice. Looking forward to watching the build.
Between two 60s I should be pretty set for parts:)
❤️❤️😍😍
Cool channel
Your smile is contagious
Hi from Vic
thank you!
Great 60, don’t chop the engine mounts. You may just need new brackets(same age as the chassis). They changed the mounting points around 1985
Yes mounts need to be removed and new ones welded to the chassis
good luck with the build have a look at efs they might do a 60s bull bar
Yeah had a look at all production bars. Arb is the only one I'm a fan of
Finally!
...It would be a good video just exploring if making a bar from scratch is what you want to do, what is involved etc etc. I think many would not know what it is involved beyond the vague idea that it can be expensive.
Sometimes you can get a surprise with these things once you start to look into them.
I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the build.
Yeah custom barwork can be done very cheaply but to do it right definitely takes time and effort. Added benefit is its not a new car with airbags or sensors to worry about
@@leonkane8240 exactly that's why I said to do it properly takes time and effort. No point doing anything cheap.
Fortunately I work at an auto fabrication shop so I'm pretty covered in making my own barwork. I'm sure there are other people out there though who could definitely learn through trial and error. But in my opinion learning should not be done on barwork so i won't be showing that on here. Anything that protrudes from a vehicle and has the possibility to impact the vehicles handling or crash dynamics should be left to a professional.
Not a big fan of 60 series Cruisers in general, but man the hj61 is one of my favourites. 😅😁
The high roof that many people don't like, actually give it a more modern look. Because without it the 60 looks very boxy.
Unfortunately I have never seen one in person (12HT variant) and 60 series Cruisers in general are hard to come by in decent condition.
Living approximately 40Km from the ocean doesn't really help, with rust. 😑
Even looking at listing from around the country doesn't help much either.
Great video Danie, hello from SA. 🇿🇦
Edit: The second one looks very neat. You have enough parts to make a nice one out of them. The brown might be a issue. 😬
Awesome thanks for watching!!
Man the new 60 is like identical to my one except mines a round headlight model
Get onto Mr landcruiser🤘he will have any parts u need and b able 2 help with any of ur questions 👍
Cheers but between two 60s Im covered for parts haha
Hi my name is Greg and I’m building up a 79 single cab and canopy . Love your show so down to earth and no bullshit . Just won’t to know what brand of roof top tent you have
walkthrough of my rear setup on my youtube
Couple of 60 series bars that take a winch on Gumtree in Qld.
I'll suss it out cheers!
Yep, 2F and 2H mounts are the same in my 47. Should be the same in a 60
Alex from Intents Offroad just uploaded a video about an auto upgrade on a 60 series. Got the valve body kit from wholesale autos.
Yes great channel!
All fourx4 in Newcastle will have everything for your 60
No need I've got two 60s haha so pretty covered for parts
Store the key parts which you may need at later stage and not now... will be of good use and save few pennies. Say glass, door trims, quarter panel, interior may be.
Or you can make a pet house out of it and put it in your yard.. your dog will love...
That's very true haha he would love that
I think some Coasters had 24v systems. Or maybe Dynas as well. Remember the fuel shutoff will be 24v.
I'll look into it thank you!
If you haven't already, join the 60 series LandCruiser owners Australia Facebook page. Definitely the most helpful resource for the mighty 60 💪
Yes been on it for many years now:)
Hey danie that big box in the back of the 62 is the rear air-conditioning unit!
If you're looking for a good manifold look up whistle "n" soot they do awesome ceramic coated manifolds and dump pipes! Qld company!!👍
Ah for the rear there you go! Always learning:) ah that's okay I work at an auto fab place so if I got make one we got that covered👌
@@DanieSimpson oh and there should be ice cube trays in the console fridge!! Haha
@@benfalconer8142 oh really?! I feel like they're gonna be hard to find!
@@DanieSimpson yeah if they are there you'll have a giggle when find them! They only tiny!!
@@benfalconer8142 I just found them soo cute! I'm missing the little door to keep them in too:)
If you’re looking for a 24v alternator - look at Hino, part of of Toyota company. Same engines have been used In Landcruisers, Coaster buses and Hino light rigid trucks.
Cheers I've got an applicable part number for it just gotta change a few plugs
Spent all most of my primary school holidays getting toured around the country in a 60, looking forward to the videos. And TF there is someone else out there that can't stand idiots calling it a "BUILD"!
Glad it's not just me😅 I'd call it a build if I started with nothing and made it all from bare steel
Auto can be a lot of fun with a lock up converter kit
Right?! I'm excited to get stuck into auto upgrades
@@DanieSimpson I’ve got a1hdft 80 with a nomad lock up kit installed and it’s brilliant off road, downhill in first is like a manual ( no run away) and smooth through the slow stuff without having to worry about the clutch pedal. But it will stall the moment you stop the vehicle 😂
@@benhadden7038 yeah right interesting!
Great cars, but here in Finland those things rust way more..
Looks awesome. My dad and I have just finished restoring a 60 almost exactly the same way you are!
Oh that's so cool!!
