To be honest his videos remind me a lot of old youtube. It's the harsh lighting, and minimal setup in them. So 240p would only add to the feel of the video.
That was an amazing video! far better than some of the stuff the other big you tubers make out there. It's so down to earth that it allows you to really connect with the footage presented on screen. The music really adds to the nostalgic feeling! So happy you posted again mate I love you work ❤️
Fuc**ng Masterpiece. The point of this video is so good and so sweet. I watch your videos from the times of your round glasses and ponytail.... I always liked your videos and your stories... But this.... This completely blew me away.... Thank you for your content Tim.
There is something truly special about your content, James. It always feels like I've stepped into UA-cam circa 2010 (in the _best_ way of course) every time you grace us with another damn-near bi-annual video. Your channel gives me a vibe I simply can't get anywhere else, here's to more in the future. Great work as always.
because its not a coming out story, or bullshit about trump, and some snl type shit, or a music video, but damn UA-cam algorithm needs to fixed trending needs to be a place to actually good content not that cancer people call entertainment, like that dude who puts his gtaV cd in his car and test happens, hhhmmmmm maybe it wont play!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!? wow what a god damn surprise, so yes this should be on the trending tab, i can amen to that MAGA
Because he's not gay, Trump, a late night show, a make up channel, or a new song featuring ten rappers. It's something that matters and has some substance. That's why it's not on trending.
Tim, after watching your videos I always tell myself over and over again how amazing you would be as a movie director or a script writer. Your style of telling stories is just one of a kind and I always love coming back to your videos. The feel your videos give to the audience is something truly unique. Thank you, God bless.
I'm so glad you made this video. Not seeing your content has been disheartening. You inspired me to try to film, to create, to focus on the things I love. Thank you for coming back, and inspiring me to create and giving me a boost in morale I needed. I'm glad you're back, even if it's for a second. Thank you, TJ.
Incredible. Something oddly nostalgic about your videos. This one in particular made me very emotional. You're truly one of the greatest UA-camrs on the platform
I'm sitting here trying to find constructive criticism, but I simply can't. This video is a beautiful way to connect to the enthusiasts of the digital world, and inspire us about more than just computers, but about life itself. I personally believe that your editing skills deserve more credit than UA-cam can ever give justice. I'm not even mad that it takes you a billion years to release new content, because when you do you always deliver. Amazing video and cheers!
Dude, where the hell are you!? I've watched all your old videos again, hoping by the time I'd finished that you'd have uploaded again. I understand time is a major constraint for you, but your fans want to see you back buddy!
Don't worry, I plan to put a new vid up soon but it had this mac in the bg with Tim so I wanted to wait for him to uploaded it so I didn't ruin any surprises. It's also been hard to find time with work which is 60+ hours every week. But I'll get there soon!
Found my grandads old mini dv camera after this. Found videos of me, my grandparents and parents. My grandad and dad both aren't with us anymore... but these tapes made me laugh and cry, and it gave me an incredible sense of nostalgia. You have brought back extremely fond memories and I have picked up a few mini dv tapes in the hope to film simple everyday things like my grandad did :')
For me this is one of the most powerful and emotional videos on youtube, this feels almost like a work of art. This is probably one of your best videos. Please please keep up the great work
JESUS, I love these videos. They're all so high quality and so insightful. The wait is always so worth it. Absolutely my favorite channel on this site.
I really appreciate you making these videos. (Although they’re not always the highest quality.) You’re the only person on this site the provide me with such emotion it’s actually unreal.
Great story, and nice way to make a video on a budget! My dad got a mini DV Sony camera a long time ago. Back then, it was top of the line. He used it to record some of my early childhood. He kept these tapes and still has them. He still uses this camera to record special occasions, and the footage looks pretty good. On top of that, the only computer we have in our house that can connect to the camera and copy its files is an old Dell Inspiron laptop that we got back in 2003. Also top of the line back in its day, it had a full desktop class hyper threaded Pentium 4, 2gb RAM, ATi Radeon Graphics, and Windows XP. He loved this PC, cleaning its fans, re-installing the OS, and even replaced its screen when it's screen stopped working! He used it as his daily driver until the day Windows XP support ended in 2014. It is permanently offline and mostly sits and collects dust, but every once in a while, we take it out to copy files from the Sony camera to the Dell, and enjoy some memories from my childhood :)
This guy describes memories perfectly, you can't do them again but you would wish to get times back. I also have hundreds of minidv tapes of footage from when I was like 1-5 years old, so I was muuch more innocent :D
Absolutely amazing video! I remember finding out about you in early 2015. I was extremely depressed, because of the amount of homework my school gave us, but your videos always motivated me somehow... I remember watching your content during my free time, because that was the only thing I could do during that time... Now seeing you with that powerful comeback I actually almost dropped a tear. Keep up the good work, Tim!
This is one kind of a channel, it gives you always a good feeling, the music, the voice, the short fragments... This is the only channel I know that gives you this feeling. Please continue like this! And mayby more video's?:p
Soon as i seen this video had to watch it !! Best one you've done so far. It was amazing ! great to a side to you that not many other youtubers would do ! Am 26 years old and I look up to you ! Your videos are everything I've ever wanted to do ! All the best keep up the passionate work you do
This gave me the feels, man. My grandmother died early on, September 21st, 2016. She was 50 or 51. (Born December 20th 1965). She was the greatest person I knew. I just turned 12 at that time. Like 2 weeks before. I was too scared of crying because I was self conscious, so I didn’t go to see her in the hospital room when she died. I only felt comfortable crying in my own privacy, and I don’t like that. Even her mom is still alive at 70. Your memories on the camera gave me tears. Message to everyone: preserve your memories, in anyway possible. You may not realize just how important they are or will be to you in the future.
In my country i bought it for 80zl, something about 27 aus $. I'm watching you for a few years, maybe you remember me from the gateway computer, episode "Ultimate 1998 computer" you replyed to my comment. Anyway great work, i'm always waiting for new episode of GHG ! Greetings from Poland mate
Tim I think this was an absolute masterpiece! It is so true telling stories is what we as people do. This video brought back so many memories of my childhood as well. Words cannot express how beautiful your video was! Thank you for this moment in time!
This video genuinely made me cry, always love your videos and the narrative style. You inspired me to collect old obsolete technology, thank you for your content
I actually recently did up one of these, got it at the dump shop for $10, and totally refurbished & polished it. Sold on for $50 as a music library & playback machine, and good feels to know it'll now keep on working for a few years more :)
everyone link this vid to on Linus Tech Tips vid where he bitches about a pre view box for videos with a $50,000 camera, $5,000 gpu, million core cpu, and a $7,000 add on
This is really special and unique man... Really appreciate your effort here.. The nostalgia and tapestry you build is quite a unique thing for sure, harkens back to a simpler and probably "more real" time on UA-cam and in life. Peace
Holy heck, this is one that's hit home! Tim, Your videos always have something truly unique about them, and it's great to kick back with a cuppa and end the night watching your content. Keep up the great work, and keep making those memories!
He many not make videos as often as we like, but the video quality and originality is so unique that it makes up for them..This channel is as pure as gold!
How you can simultaneously be a salesman of old electronics, reviewer, entertainer and somehow pull the heart strings! Thank you for another great video Tim!
I actually somewhat liked the footage filmed on this camera, on first glance my impressions were low quality and low resolution but then it actually becomes artistic and retro and I absolutely loved it!
My first video camera was an Aiptek 4500. I recorded so many hours of video on my 128mb SD card haha. I also happened to just rescue 2 of these iMacs and install Raspian Pixel Desktop OS, really helps bring it back to life. Such a fantastic video. Thanks for creating such unique and thoughtful content.
Thanks for this video GHG! I've contemplated on making videos for a long time and just so happen to be negotiating a price on a Mac mini. My respect for your channel has more than doubled
Seeing a green ham gaming video after what seems like an eternity is a god send. Oh, as well as everything from the editing to the camerawork being on point as per usual, and an amazingly sincere video. I can't wait for more
I can't bring myself to watch any of my old videos (90's and early 00's). They make me feel even more miserable with where I ended up and what I've become. Always had a smile, laughing and enjoying life. Now I just do the same thing, day after day. Play the tape, stop and rewind and play again the next day. This was a great video, but it brought back too many good memories that I know I'll probably never get to enjoy again.
sadly yes, we are the laughing stock of all other country thanks to the Obama administration, but i hope other country's will respect like they used to, MAGA!
TrixterCharizard Trump is doing his best to fix all the crap Obama did for 8 years, it alot if you didn't notice, if you've looked at the stock market recently? It's way better then it was when Obama was in office, and illegal immigration is way lower than it was as well, Trump is also putting alot of time and effort into nasa and many other American based company's and researchers, if you didn't notice Trump did more on his firsr 100 days than Obama did ever, MAGA! Get out hear snowflake
Another fantastic Video! The childhood memories were touching to experience through your eyes, hit me pretty hard thinking about my own and I'm definitely glad you found them. Also really liked the graphics showing the iMac components, very interesting touch. Keep up the great work, no matter how long each video takes!
Thank you, you made me cry, remembering my childhood... Man, you touched my heart. Thank you THANK YOU! I really cannot thank you more for this video of yours, that only with a few tears.
How come you always manage to make every video great, and keep it fresh but with the same green ham vibe. You are easily my favourite youtuber. For this kind of content I don't mind waiting two months.
I assume in many cases there's compatibility issues. Many modern computers have problems with Firewire ports, so that would be an issue. Also, when it comes to video editing software, things can get out of control very fast. If you have a new computer, the older versions of an editor won't work well, so you need a newer version. You get the newer version, but it's more expensive, and it has higher hardware requirements, even if you only want to edit SD video. So you end up spending more money and time. Instead, you can get an older computer that's very cheap and can handle doing the entire process by it's own. I think that's the appeal of this idea, not letting yourself get caught up with the setup if there's a cheap solution to get you started.
Dude that film is prime footage for an introduction reel for a horror/zombie movie. Just add some screams, snarls, random cut ins of a news channel about said disaster and boom. A good movie told from Green Ham's POV. I respect you man, please don't die.
Wow Tim what a perfect video, it hit me right in the feels. it's so easy to forget where we come from and what's important. This channel is an inspiration to me, thanks so much
My tears are dripping into my cup of tea. Awesome video!

Petition to make this the next apple advert.
George/WF old computer makes a video people love? not profitable for apple.
I realise this, I just think that for once apple would zoom out on making the most money, but of course, that is impossible.
Aslong as you can make a video I'll keep watching, hell even 240p will do.
Dirk Sieme Nanne: Hello sir

I really cannot thank you more for this video of yours, that only with a few tears.
Fuck man, this made me cry a little.
I'm not ashamed to admit I legitimately cry every time I watch this video. So special and beautiful. Truly amazing production.

You're a legend among nerdy youtubers, please don't stop making these. You make me (and apparently many others) very happy.

I love all your videos but this is one of the best ones in a matter of fact one of the best UA-cam videos of all time
This was truly heartwarming. I'm almost 40 and can't agree more. It will make double that much sense when you'll have your own kids .
