A 300 CD stacker and a rubber band resurrection

- The Sony CDP-CX355, a 300 disc CD player with lots of tricks up it’s sleeve. While charming, these units are notorious for their belt issues.
This video is simply sharing with you, a casual afternoon in 2020 where I replace the belts with some rubber bands. While using rubber bands is far from ideal, ordering proper drive belts and having to wait weeks and months to receive them is also not ideal (to impatient people like me). Rubber bands work fine as long as you are willing to accept that you’ll have to replace them a lot more frequently. The proper drive belts last much longer.
Drive belts aside, these stackers are fantastic for any Compact Disc enthusiast because ones entire collection can be accessible with the scroll of a wheel and the touch of a button. The keyboard input and automatic album name saving from CD Text means there is no need for the old fashioned piece of paper nearby with the CD list. The digital output (optical) they have means one can just use it as a “Source” as the audiophiles call it. You can then get a more impressive DAC to do the heavy lifting.
I’ve very much enjoyed mine over the years and while I’m no audiophile, I’ve always found the sound is balanced, sharp and clear. I’ve mainly used it over the years as a Digital Source and handed the Digital to Analogue conversion to my ancient but beloved Yamaha RX-V657 AV Receiver. Red Book CD’s still sound fantastic through any speakers but I must say I truly loved how they sounded with my old WM-1000XM3’s hooked up to that Yamaha amp. Lying down on the floor next to the stacker and listening to albums like “Moon Safari” by Air was really special.

It's always a good day whenever GHG uploads.
True dat
good days must be extremely rare then
Year you mean?
Sakib
Gonna stick one of these in the boot of my car 😎
Absolutely fascinating technology, shame rubber belts have virtually all perished on all this nice 90s tech.
They don't have anti-skip 😂
Zoomers don't know how old tech works 😂😂😂
You'll scratch your discs to hell and back
@@philcooper9225 I know my Oasis CDs pretty well, I’ll fill in the blanks 😂
@@BudgetBuildsOfficial RIP your Oasis CDs 🙁
All those scratches 🙁
I can still remember burning new mixes once a month before anti-skip became popular and even then every few months 😂
Mine work mighty fine.
Check it out

Proper replacements are pretty easy to find on ebay. Using rubber bands is a stupid solution and can permanently break things. Stretching improperly sized belts over parts like that can burn the motors out and ruin bearings. They where not made to take lateral force
One of the more underappreciated and underrated youtubers out there imo been watching since 2016, thx for the new upload
Agreed
He's honestly the LEMMiNO of tech UA-camrs.
@@JasonBoon02 definitly of that vein
Crazy hes only made 12 videos since 2016
When the world need more Retro Gaming content, Green Ham Gaming returns to UA-cam once again
It's a beautiful day to see GHG returns
I am so happy to see new video from you!
The atmosphere in your videos is so welcoming that i feel like home. The way that videos are filmed and edited adds to that. I also like that every product that you show has its story.
The nostalgia is strong here for the good old days when tinkering with tech was just a way of passing time.
New GHG upload, today was a good day. I get you with the nostalgia of simpler times, when I first started watching your videos life was completely different. Cheers dude
If they make a 4K Bluray stacker, I'd definitely fill it up :)
This was one of the earliest youtube channels I was into when I was 13 years old. I'm now halfway through college. Love to see that you're still uploading and thanks for the memories!
Been watching since like 2015 and love the videos still!
I love these things so much. I see them cheap at the thrift store or even being chucked in the e-waste disposal which is where I'll grab them then donate them to the thrift store to keep them in use a little longer.
I always love coming back to this channel every 6 months or so. Always something great!
"when life was as simple as spending time with the people I loved, and taking an entire afternoon to tinker with an old piece of tech" hit me so hard in the feels. I wasn't even having a rough day or anything but that line has me almost in tears.
A time is coming where life will be that simple again for you. Hang in there until then. It might be in this life when you're very old, spending time with grandkids and that sort of thing, and then coming home and tinkering, or it might be in the next life. Either way, those days are not over.
Thank you for your beautiful videos.
I had nearly recovered, and then the shot out of the window at the sunset got me. I know that place. Your videos feel like home.
For real... i miss your videos... i really feel a bit sad when you drop that video like 2 years ago, but is life...we need to move on... and so you did it... i just have the same passion to old tech and most of it i kept because your channel...it inspire me to keep collecting and make them work again....all while i listen to a particular convenience store music enjoying a good cup of tea... cheers mate!
My grandparents had a CD changer like this. It had a window on top so you could see all of CDs inside.
It wasn't full, but if it could fit their record collection they easily would have filled it.
Nice unit ..not only do I have 100s of CDs I have now a fully working Reel to Reel Akai tape deck ...
I've been with this channel so long that I went from a cup of tea to beer being more my thing 😂
Watched you back when time was simple too. Things in my life have gotten way complicated but watching you brings me at ease. Was never a tea guy back then but I am now so I can finally enjoy a cup a tea while watching your videos.
Hope all is well. Love the video!
Last video I ever saw was 3 years ago. Can't believe I remembered your light house pc build and found your channel again! Loving the video quality as always, makes me comfortable like watching some anime back in the 2000s
it's pretty cool when you recall how entertaining ghgtv videos were, you go on a nostalgia trip and he uploaded a week ago.
I have two of these units, a 200 disc, and a 400 disc variant. They are both full, and are data linked together so that I can shuffle play across all 600 discs. Their output goes through a Cambridge audio Dacmagic, and they sound fantastic. I've owned them for 20 years now.
I really hope you keep uploading. I love your stuff.
great to see u still around and i always wanted one so badly
My man! Been watching you since the beginning, keep it up!
I was literally thinking about your videos yesterday and then I wake up to a new one. What a wonderful surprise!
I never knew this existed, but I am already in love. 250 more CDs to go, wish me luck!
Thanks for the upload sir, im glad you are still uploading. Been watching for almost ten years!
Every upload from you makes me smile, thanks for these videos. I should send in my setup for Mailbox at some point.
I'm so happy you're back making videos, please don't stop ❤
I own that same model ! ( and the 200 one as well) It's a great alternative to listen to your old CDs "in the flesh" And yes. I filled both systems with original CDs bought between 1994 -2010
Good to get a new vid from you mate! Always a pleasure seeing these pop up
Today I get to learn about a piece of tech I never knew! Thx always loved your uploads

Green ham gaming uploading is like a special occasion for me, it always makes my week, or even my entire month! Glad to see some love for CDs, I've been collecting them for a while now, and have about 350 or so

YAAAAASS A NEW VIDEO💅✨
Glad to see you still making videos
I was thinking about this channel yesterday and checking the channel to see if a new video was uploaded. I got the notification today. Thanks.
I could listen to this voice for hours!
glad to see you're still uploading onto this channel, much love from chile
Thank you for this! I was born around 2000 so I grew up around CD Technology but it was pretty much phased out by the time I was 10. I bought many CDs and many portable CD Players, but I entirely forgot about these CD Stackers. This video was a really fun watch
Seeing you again is a delightful surprise. Never left you, man.
Glad to see a new upload from you!
I'm just glad you finally uploaded something
We miss you GHG, always good to see your videos
Always happy to see another upload from you, and totally down for more weird tech videos like this one!
Glad to see you're still here!
love you man, you got me into building pc's at a young age. my first build was inspired by your videos, it was an older optiplex which i then swapped a q6600, 8gb off ddr3 and a gtx 750ti. It felt like i had a sleeper of a pc just from the looks compared to the performance. i was so proud of myself thanks to you. I recently built my new setup (i5 9400f, rtx 2060, 16gb ddr4) and i had your channel on my mind the whole time. Your channel is very unique with the content you produce, you hit a niche market and you thrive, i can't wait for your next upload!
Glad to have you back, king 👑
Your videos have always been a delight, good stuff :3
you have no idea how happy it made me seeing a video from you popping up in my sub box :,) keep up the good work :D

Great to see another of your chilled tech vids. In response to your question I think my parents would have over 100 cds, doubt it's 300 but never doubted them
The legend is back....👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for uploading. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Any day GHG uploads is a good day for me
should've done some Greenmarks on this puppy! I need to know how many spins per second this baby can put out in ten different CDs
