Love this show! Corne Krige was a brilliant player, but played during a difficult era for Springbok rugby.

The "Staaldraad" camp was not a "military" type intervention as per se ! It was very successfully incorporated by the Blue Bulls in their successful Super Rugby campaign at the time ...hence I guess why it was introduced to the Springbok setup !!

Not sure about that. I know a few Bulls from that era, I will hear what they have to say about that 👍

Staaldrad was the low point in Springbok rugby. They gained a reputation for thuggery that took many years to live down. Even today, referees are quicker to close down the Springboks in tough situations than other sides.

What is evident is that Corne wasn't a great leader. Within the right environment maybe he could have been but it seems the structures, surroundings and culture at that time were terrible.

I think he was a good leader, but maybe not allowed to thrive as he could have at the time?

@@megafoonsportsome people perform worse when they are made captain. Korne was a good player, hampered by captaincy.
