      Well you are very welcome here! It's nice to know there are people outside of South Africa watching and enjoying the videos too.
      I have some friends and family in New Zealand too as a matter of interest.
      Thanks for the support, Tiaan!

      A wonderful rugby player. Pity Kitch didn't think he could be in the same side as Francois Pienaar.

    I think he is a GP in Sydney now. What a great example of a humble and brilliant rugby player. We all knew that he got the shortest straw and did not deserve the treatment he got from the Transvaal club.

      If you are referring to Uli Schmidt, then yes. He actually moved away from Sydney. He is now closer to Brisbane, but not quite in Brisbane as far as I understand the Australian geography.

      A very good observation. Hooper probably not the only player who saw Strauss and thought, "I need to do it like that!"

    I will give this man this. He never jockeyed against Francios in this interview. never said a mean word against Kitch, just gave his side of the story and that was that. I don't know if I could have done the same thing if I was in his position. We can all learn a lesson from that. And no, I was not a WP supporter, so I do not have blue hooped tinted glasses on :)
    But when you factor in that we had big Mark play 8th man, that in itself a risk, it was a shame there was no place for this man. I have nothing against Rudolf Strauli, but in my view, Tiaan was better. Its just a shame it polarized things the way it did.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  Рік тому +1

      Yes a very classy response from a very classy man. Great player and a class act off the field too. It could not have been easy knowing that you are worthy but no matter what you do, you are not going to be selected. I'm glad he was able to still go on and win a World Cup - even if it wasn't for the Springboks.

    My ultimate hero, growing, the epitome of a real man. Remember meeting him once in Wine Cafe in JHB one night when WP lost against TVL, and such a humble bloke compared to some others who play elite level sport.

    I have watched these out of sync and I probably am revising my favourite interviews of yours as I watch these. However this is currently my favourite one ( standby for further revision)
    I am almost embarrassed to admit this but Tiana Strauss is the reason that to this day that I root for the ‘Tahs when Stormers aren’t competing against them. He was rock solid and composed. I thought he was great captain and 8.
    Thanks again for these. If Joe Pietersen ( I know he wasn’t a Bok which still saddens me) is on your shopping list for an interview I would be the first to watch.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  Рік тому

      Keep the comments coming - I'm loving it! Thank you. Tiaan was "my first captain" at Province so of course I'm going to be biased. I think he got a raw deal in South African rugby but it was almost as if it was his destiny to become a World Cup winner (just not with the Boks).
      Joe Pietersen isn't on my shopping list ... but that could change in the future! I'm always reviewing what I do on the channel.

      @rif9576 Рік тому +1

      @@frontrowrugby he was mine as in terms of what I can actively remember from when my love Province moved away from indoctrination 😁 to infatuation. I was grade 11 when he ran out for the Tahs.
      I figured Joe wasn’t on the shopping list ( a girl can dream though) judging from the general theme of your channel but d@mn was that man done dirty as well. Boks were size-ist in their early years.
      Thank you for your level of engagement as well. I enjoy talking rugby. To quote my favourite comedian Dara O’ Briain: “Nostalgia is like heri*n to old people”
      Trying to moderate my language so it doesn’t get flagged by the UA-cam gods🤣

      @frontrowrugby  Рік тому

      @@rif9576 Let's not give our age away! Haha ...
      On the topic of Joe and size, have you seen my Corne Krige interview? Another former Province captain! But he also talks about size and how he knew he should retire because he knew Jake White wouldn't select him because he was too small!
      In terms of level of engagement: I try my best to respond to all the comments except the ones that are really rude or extremely negative. Plus the comments are mostly very positive and encouraging so it's actually fun to engage.
      Looks like UA-cam had no issue with your language this time around!

    As a die hard Northern Transvaal supporter I thought Tiaan would make a great career captain for the Boks. Francois was too liberal and just trying to be a pretty boy. Years later I lost the last piece of respect for his kneeling for a terrorist movement.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  Рік тому

      @wilburburger6155 Рік тому +2

      It wasn’t mentioned in the conversation but the true reason why Tiaan was axed was because in 94 during the tour to Great Britain he was ten minutes late for a practice and he had to go through a tekkie parade in a parking lot of the hotel they were staying in. After that he never played for SA again. It was in Edward Griffith’s book: The Captains.
