Bought mine twice direct from Spot and Canyon. They's so easy to assemble, easier or on par with anything from Ikea. It wasn't even to save costs by going online, but the local bike shops just didn't carry the variety of every model etc
I do think it makes availability to brands a really great thing. Being locked into what your local shops carry is tough.
If a bike shop is upset you didn't buy a bike with them, they are not a good bike shop. If possible, go to different shops in the area until you find one that isn't crap. I take my Transition to a Specialized shop because the guys are awesome.
Completely agree!
I was a supporter of local shops until they gave me attitude by expecting me to drive over an hour ( round trip) and then not wanting to make time to discuss a valid complaint. I own a 2018 Marin and just started buying tools and parts instead of getting treated like an idiot by a shop that only wants to wo🎉k on their endorsed bikes.
It’s because to keep the bikes money in house and less support for bike shops
I ordered my first bike from Commencal and yes my local bike shop didn’t carry it . They did try to get me to purchase there bikes . So I ask the bike shop would there service my bike after I had it shipped, they said hey ship it here will finish it out and get it ready .
It was a positive experience all around
That is exactly the way it should be handled. Great to hear stories like that.
Hard to see the point of DTC models when the price is the same as the price in the store. Not to mention that Yeti bikes are obscenely expensive.
Maybe I missed it if you said something about the cost to the consumer of buying from a bike shop vs buying direct, but that comparison would be of interest to me (the consumer). Thx for the vid.
Pricing should be the same unless the shop is running a sale. The MSRP wouldn't change.
Based on basic economics it’s likely we’ll see more sales similar to Yeti online sellers like Jenson just now direct from Yeti. Great video though hitting some of the biggest concerns of consumers buying directly.
When companies use the excuse for going DTC that they are able to reach these odd areas of the globe that they otherwise couldn't with no dealers, that sale and the number of those type of buyers are so small its laughable. It's not going to make up for the over production/ordering mistake that many of these companies made. It's something that only makes sense to them to say in order to try and save face with dealers that care about DTC and have a negative reaction. At the end of the day brands need to work to keep EVERYONE happy because who else is going to buy the 3-7 years worth of completes in inventory? Can't send them all back to be recolored and sure as hell can't undercut your dealers when going DTC unless you want to be the next mongoose or schwinn next.
I just came here to whine about the market and how schmucks who have nothing to offer want you to pay them good money to pretend to work on your bike.
