5 years ago, I began a social experiment wherein I wanted to test people's reactions to originality and their willingness to watch the same format from a popular channel on someone not as popular. It struck a chord with some people and the UA-cam algorithm favored the video I uploaded. It was the first time I cared about tags, proper video title, description, etc. Doing that has allowed me to be thrust into a world where I've met such amazing people and been able to do such amazing things that I don't think I would've had the chance to do otherwise. That being said, I had a vision for the video. A vision I couldn't achieve. I had no way of capturing footage myself, my editing skills weren't what they are now and I had a lesser understanding of how to achieve the quality I wanted. I had to download the cutscenes off of UA-cam, a practice that I had to repeat for so many videos, but that meant I didn't have any in-game dialogue to make fun of. This is closer to my original visions, with jokes that I had never had a chance to make, jokes I can make now given the current time we live in. There's a polish to my performance, my writing, my sense of humor, my visual and audio quality... This is the standard I wanted from the beginning. The original video took me a week straight to make, with barely any breaks in between. Consider that I didn't have an Endslate, really edit my audio too much, or have any visual effects at the time. Seven days. This video, with all the elements that I recycle for these videos, took me 6 days. That's how much I've been able to optimize this process. A day shaven off may not seem like a big deal, but when you consider the jump in quality and care, I'd say it's something I can be proud of. Thank you all for these past 5 years and here's to many more of making fun of the games that we love, and sometimes hate, so much.
I couldn't tell if the depression part was gonna be a sin or not, it quickly went from him talking about shadow's depression to over 300 million people in real life. But I don't have anything against this, I'm glad Charrii took out time out of his life to encourage others to help those who want to be helped, but too afraid to ask. Much love to all of you!

I call bullshit on the hotline thing. There was a Quora thread where real people struggling with depression said that talking to some anonymous stranger on the phone to stop them from offing themselves wasn't exactly helpful in the long run. Basically, it's better if your friends and family are there, because no matter how benevolent or kind, that therapist in the chair is still an outsider.

Georgie A: It’s not really a swear word, but SEGA wanted to tone down some of the game’s other content too (such as changing the alien’s blood from red to green & editing the scene where Maria gets shot), not just the profanity. It’s a thought we all have at some point; to think we are invincible, but with the death of my father 3 years ago, and my grandfather currently suffering from brain tumors that are going to kill him soon, I have learned that the cold, unfeeling scythe comes for us all in the end. The thoughts that go through one’s mind after a loss like that are sickening. It leaves a hole that never truly goes away. For me, it’s enough to know that I will see them again someday, free from the pain they had to go through in life, and we will have a blast together, walking down the Golden Streets on the other side of the Pearly Gates; but for some, the thoughts are too much to bear. For those of you who are going through tough times right now, know that you are not alone. There are many people out there willing to help you, whether you realize it or not; and you genuinely have a greater impact on people’s lives than you may realize.

I just want to say that ever since I saw the depression/suicide talk, I've saved that place and have referred several friends here in addition to reinforcing the points you make. Even after a year I keep coming back to this particular video. All the jokes are solid, and the criticisms of the game's quirks are all presented in a way that's hilarious to take in even on rewatches. Even more than that, the 5 minute segment talking about mental health and suicide was really important, even if it was unexpected of a parody video talking about Shadow the Hedgehog. Out of all the videos on this channel, I feel this is the magnum opus. And if not, it's definitely my favorite.
27:45 Every time I see this part (and I don't really know, how many times I've seen this video), it makes me cry, because I know that I'm part of the people you're talking about. Not the suicide one, but, by sympthoms, I am suffering from depression and anxiety. And the hardest thing about it is to tell someone to take you to a specialist to make sure if you are or are not suffering from some mental illness. It's hard to even tell your family, parents, anyone, because you don't want to upset them or you think you'll be a burden. And listening to others, who are still telling you, that everything's okay is not easy as well. You can't be telling people that everything's okay even tho it's not. That's not how you help them. If you really wanna help, be there for them. Be there for them with open arms, an ear that will listen and a shoulder to cry on. As Chariii said, you don't have to like the person to help him. This is not about liking someone or about who is your friend and who's not. This is about helping people in need to stop those numbers from growing. Because those numbers are sad. I feel like if he indicated it in the title, while yes it would have garnered a bit more attention, it would have also taken away a bit of the impact because you're expecting it. Without an indication for "something to look for" I feel it hits harder. I certainly wasn't expecting for him to suddenly say those things, and it genuinely made me cry, because I deal with those things as well. Regardless though, it was something so relatable in something you wouldn't expect, and that's amazing.

Holy heck, the message on suicide and depression really hit from nowhere, and was really impactful... I've been there at the right place and right time, acording to them, to prevent some people I met online from making that choice, and while it is great, it's amazing to help prevent death, especially from something so sad... I can't help but be scared. I'm given so much credit, like being told I am the reason they aren't dead... It's scary, I feel like somewhere down the line I won't be able to save someone, especially since this is over the internet and my word could be taken as impactfully as a grain of sand.
I’ve been there in the right place and time too, I stopped my best friend from taking his own life and I made him feel cared for and I treated him like a brother. He has his bad moments here and there and I try to be there for him when he needs me and I hate when he credits me as the guy who saved his life because I don’t want to be known for that I just want to be his friend and help him out. My life has been getting better lately and I hope his does too because I would give so much for him to be the one receiving these blessings instead of me because of what he’s gone through he deserves them way more than I do. He can’t catch a break with some things and I really hope that his luck starts to turn around and he gets rid of those bad times once and for all because I also don’t want him completely relying on me to help him through the bad times because he needs more friends a nice girl way more than I do and I already has those things but he deserves them way more, he needs to know more people love him. After hearing that from Charriii5 I’ll try harder to not only be there for him but help him find others that’ll be there for him too.

I may not have been suffering from depression, but this year particularly has been tough. I lost my bananas more than once and have given way to tears on several occasions. Plus, my back has been sore for almost two months. Talking to someone always helps. If someone has depression, then it's imperative for them to get necessary assistance. Again, I don't suffer through such thoughts or know anyone who does, but we all have something to give. Life is beautiful and precious. Don't feel that suicide is the answer at any point. You are certainly loved.
Holy shit dude, I love you for that speech. You are so damn right and I'm thankful that you didn't hesitate to talk about such and important and serious topic in a seemingly silly video. Using Shadow's despair to show others that they can battle their own depression and disorders and that they aren't alone is incredible. And the amount of people thanking you for reminding (or showing) them that yes, they absolutely matter, only proves your point - barely anyone talks about what breaks so many of us from the inside, and some of us had to watch a commentary video about a fictional anthropomorphic hedgehog to get reminded that our lives are important. I too wasn't spared from suicidal and aggressive self-loathing thoughts and to have someone so passionately fight for others' happiness and well-being makes me so damn happy. This is really good, this video is miles better than the original, i recently went back and watched it and while it's still good, it's nowhere near the quality of your newer videos. It's also better in terms of the sins, your reasonings in the long ones are especially better, and the jokes in general are better. It's higher quality and more fun, what more could you ask from a remake.

Likely due to the 16:9 aspect ratio. The cutscenes were originally made in 4:3, so certain characters and animations don't line up with the extra screen space. You can actually see this in the game, as certain UI elements are closer toghether than they should be.
God damn it, I teared up when you were talking about depression. I have always been open with my mental health, but there have been times where my mind has done a complete 180 and has turned suicidal, telling me that I should just end it, just out of nowhere. I never really thought that I was depressed or anything, yes I have generalized anxiety, but I never thought that my mind had gotten to a point where it was literally thinking about my own death by my hands. Its terrifying to think about, and I thank you for taking the time to talk about this. ❤

Thank you Charriii for bringing attention to the consent of depression and mental illness, I myself have had thoughts of wondering if everyone would be happier if I just disappeared or was never born, but luckily I had an amazing school consoler who helped me talk about it and when my mom found out about my feelings we both talked and shed a few tears but I’m better, I mean I’m not totally fine but I’m doing a lot better and I just though “welp I’ll just live and have fun with my life while I’m on this plane of existence” what I’m trying to say is as long as you have someone who will listen to your problems or just seek help then things will get better. Rewatching this, I noticed how BROWN Shadow looks. It's especially noticable in the scenes where Shadow has all of the Chaos Emeralds and the Maria stages; after seeing it once you're never going to unsee it.
Here’s a little something I thought of: So Mr. G.U.N guy says because of Shadow's creation, the government killed Maria and/or his family. And sure, he can blame Shadow for that, but later in the future he BECOMES THE COMMANDER OF THE SAME GOVERNMENT THAT KILLED A BUNCH OF PEOPLE ON THE ARK!! The hell?! Why would he do that?! He would’ve hated G.U.N as much as Shadow, if not, EVEN MORE!! Did he just NOT get the memo? Did he NOT think this was the same G.U.N that put a bullet in Maria's chest?!
I guess that makes sense...but why wouldn’t he wanna take revenge on them too? They have as much blood on there hands, if not MORE than Shadow does. (Also correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t G.U.N also kill all the scientists on the ark, including Gerald?)
@@DylanofScreenTime It's possible that he was lied to about it or told a story to justify G.U.N.'s actions. That and he blamed Shadow, which I assume means that he was told that Shadow did it and not the soldiers. Otherwise, they were after him and Gerald, so maybe he was under the impression that Shadow had sacrificed her to escape instead of her saving him and sending him off the ARK. Alternatively, we could just assume incompetence here as well in that Sega didn't let them fill that bit in.
I just want to say, that talk about depression and suicide is one of the most genuine I’ve heard period. I need to hear things like that a lot for reasons I’m not comfortable elaborating. It’s shocking and also inspiring to see something like that come from a parody/review of a game I played when I was 10. I wish I could show this to people like me in confidence without worrying they’d see it as a joke, because these words could help far more people than some randoms looking for videos complaining about sonic games.

That bit about depression hit really hard, especially the part of "(...) you feel you're an arrogant asshole who has mess up in the past and is doomed to fail, (...) and you emotionally abuse yourself into thinking you could lose everyone or everything by having or doing something that makes you happy." I'm much better now, and have been doing my best to fight off those feelings, but I've struggled with those thoughts for most of my life at this point. It took me so long to finally give myself credit, to think and do things for myself, to recognize my mistakes help me grow, and let myself be happy just because I wanted to be happy. My therapist didn't help me more than any random person, the medicines I was prescribed flat out made me feel worse, and my parents and authority figures just didn't even try to understand or sympathize with me. I even tried to commit suicide with a self made poison, but puked it out before I could swallow. It was thanks to 4 great people I met online 7 years ago, just talking with them about random things, that I found a new, simple reason to keep living; to talk with them again. Kind of ironically, I haven't talked with them in a long time, and I don't even now if we'd be friends anymore with how much we've all changed, but I can't thank them enough for being nice to me and helping me want to try again, and I still want to keep living so I can try and make others as happy as they made me. They tried to understand me, they actively helped me cause they wanted to, and yet even now all I can I feel is that I guilt tripped them and abused their friendship, which isn't true, but that's what these feelings do to you; they make you feel like the people who love you and care about you don't love you, or that you're using them for selfish reasons and you're not worthy of them. It's a life long battle to stave off depression, and it's always going to find a way back into your life, but know that there's always a way out, even if you can't see it. Nothing lasts forever; not your happiness, not your sadness. You just have to keep persevering. You can do it. I believe in you, even as some random person in the internet who doesn't know you, cause if you won't, fuck knows I will. Don't be afraid to admit you need help, and getting the assistance you need, because everyone does, even if it's something as simple as talking to some friends or a professional, or getting prescription. Don't be afraid to get help because you afraid of being seen as "weak" or "different". Please, don't fall into that trap. One last thing; I'm not gonna tell you to do your best, because I know you already are.

After watching this GamingSins of "Shadow the Hedgehog" (well, most of it, I paused to write this comment), I can't tell you how deeply touched I am that you took the time out of the review to open up about depression and other mental illnesses. Oddly enough, even though I never played this game, it means even more to me that you said those things in a Sonic the Hedgehog game, this series literally saved my life. As a child, a toxic blend of bullying at school, problems at home, and undiagnosed autism tore me apart every day. I was strongly considering suicide when I was 10 years old. The one thing that kept me going was my Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube. I kept telling myself "if you do this, you'll never get to see how the games end!". And then a few months later, I first found Sonic X, and times gradually got better, with me finding solace in the Sonic series the whole time. 5 years ago, I began a social experiment wherein I wanted to test people's reactions to originality and their willingness to watch the same format from a popular channel on someone not as popular. It struck a chord with some people and the UA-cam algorithm favored the video I uploaded. It was the first time I cared about tags, proper video title, description, etc. Doing that has allowed me to be thrust into a world where I've met such amazing people and been able to do such amazing things that I don't think I would've had the chance to do otherwise.
That being said, I had a vision for the video. A vision I couldn't achieve. I had no way of capturing footage myself, my editing skills weren't what they are now and I had a lesser understanding of how to achieve the quality I wanted. I had to download the cutscenes off of UA-cam, a practice that I had to repeat for so many videos, but that meant I didn't have any in-game dialogue to make fun of. This is closer to my original visions, with jokes that I had never had a chance to make, jokes I can make now given the current time we live in. There's a polish to my performance, my writing, my sense of humor, my visual and audio quality... This is the standard I wanted from the beginning.
The original video took me a week straight to make, with barely any breaks in between. Consider that I didn't have an Endslate, really edit my audio too much, or have any visual effects at the time. Seven days. This video, with all the elements that I recycle for these videos, took me 6 days. That's how much I've been able to optimize this process. A day shaven off may not seem like a big deal, but when you consider the jump in quality and care, I'd say it's something I can be proud of.
Thank you all for these past 5 years and here's to many more of making fun of the games that we love, and sometimes hate, so much.

I call bullshit on the hotline thing. There was a Quora thread where real people struggling with depression said that talking to some anonymous stranger on the phone to stop them from offing themselves wasn't exactly helpful in the long run. Basically, it's better if your friends and family are there, because no matter how benevolent or kind, that therapist in the chair is still an outsider.

As someone who has had the thoughts cross his mind, himself, It’s comforting to know that I am not alone in this struggle with depression. It’s a thought we all have at some point; to think we are invincible, but with the death of my father 3 years ago, and my grandfather currently suffering from brain tumors that are going to kill him soon, I have learned that the cold, unfeeling scythe comes for us all in the end. The thoughts that go through one’s mind after a loss like that are sickening. It leaves a hole that never truly goes away. For me, it’s enough to know that I will see them again someday, free from the pain they had to go through in life, and we will have a blast together, walking down the Golden Streets on the other side of the Pearly Gates; but for some, the thoughts are too much to bear.
For those of you who are going through tough times right now, know that you are not alone. There are many people out there willing to help you, whether you realize it or not; and you genuinely have a greater impact on people’s lives than you may realize.

Even after a year I keep coming back to this particular video. All the jokes are solid, and the criticisms of the game's quirks are all presented in a way that's hilarious to take in even on rewatches.
Even more than that, the 5 minute segment talking about mental health and suicide was really important, even if it was unexpected of a parody video talking about Shadow the Hedgehog.
Out of all the videos on this channel, I feel this is the magnum opus. And if not, it's definitely my favorite.

Every time I see this part (and I don't really know, how many times I've seen this video), it makes me cry, because I know that I'm part of the people you're talking about. Not the suicide one, but, by sympthoms, I am suffering from depression and anxiety. And the hardest thing about it is to tell someone to take you to a specialist to make sure if you are or are not suffering from some mental illness. It's hard to even tell your family, parents, anyone, because you don't want to upset them or you think you'll be a burden.
And listening to others, who are still telling you, that everything's okay is not easy as well. You can't be telling people that everything's okay even tho it's not. That's not how you help them.
If you really wanna help, be there for them.
Be there for them with open arms, an ear that will listen and a shoulder to cry on.
As Chariii said, you don't have to like the person to help him. This is not about liking someone or about who is your friend and who's not. This is about helping people in need to stop those numbers from growing. Because those numbers are sad.
So, try to help each other.
Because after all, we are all humans.

Holy heck, the message on suicide and depression really hit from nowhere, and was really impactful... I've been there at the right place and right time, acording to them, to prevent some people I met online from making that choice, and while it is great, it's amazing to help prevent death, especially from something so sad... I can't help but be scared. I'm given so much credit, like being told I am the reason they aren't dead... It's scary, I feel like somewhere down the line I won't be able to save someone, especially since this is over the internet and my word could be taken as impactfully as a grain of sand.

I’ve been there in the right place and time too, I stopped my best friend from taking his own life and I made him feel cared for and I treated him like a brother. He has his bad moments here and there and I try to be there for him when he needs me and I hate when he credits me as the guy who saved his life because I don’t want to be known for that I just want to be his friend and help him out. My life has been getting better lately and I hope his does too because I would give so much for him to be the one receiving these blessings instead of me because of what he’s gone through he deserves them way more than I do. He can’t catch a break with some things and I really hope that his luck starts to turn around and he gets rid of those bad times once and for all because I also don’t want him completely relying on me to help him through the bad times because he needs more friends a nice girl way more than I do and I already has those things but he deserves them way more, he needs to know more people love him. After hearing that from Charriii5 I’ll try harder to not only be there for him but help him find others that’ll be there for him too.

I may not have been suffering from depression, but this year particularly has been tough. I lost my bananas more than once and have given way to tears on several occasions. Plus, my back has been sore for almost two months.
Talking to someone always helps. If someone has depression, then it's imperative for them to get necessary assistance. Again, I don't suffer through such thoughts or know anyone who does, but we all have something to give.
Life is beautiful and precious. Don't feel that suicide is the answer at any point. You are certainly loved.

Holy shit dude, I love you for that speech. You are so damn right and I'm thankful that you didn't hesitate to talk about such and important and serious topic in a seemingly silly video. Using Shadow's despair to show others that they can battle their own depression and disorders and that they aren't alone is incredible. And the amount of people thanking you for reminding (or showing) them that yes, they absolutely matter, only proves your point - barely anyone talks about what breaks so many of us from the inside, and some of us had to watch a commentary video about a fictional anthropomorphic hedgehog to get reminded that our lives are important. I too wasn't spared from suicidal and aggressive self-loathing thoughts and to have someone so passionately fight for others' happiness and well-being makes me so damn happy. I had to and still have to fight for myself all alone cause caring for mental well-being in my area is nonexistent but thanks to you, and all other kind souls in the comments, I feel less alone. This is really good, this video is miles better than the original, i recently went back and watched it and while it's still good, it's nowhere near the quality of your newer videos. It's also better in terms of the sins, your reasonings in the long ones are especially better, and the jokes in general are better. It's higher quality and more fun, what more could you ask from a remake.
Sometimes it's rare to see the same thing but better than the original.

God damn it, I teared up when you were talking about depression. I have always been open with my mental health, but there have been times where my mind has done a complete 180 and has turned suicidal, telling me that I should just end it, just out of nowhere. I never really thought that I was depressed or anything, yes I have generalized anxiety, but I never thought that my mind had gotten to a point where it was literally thinking about my own death by my hands. Its terrifying to think about, and I thank you for taking the time to talk about this. ❤

Thank you Charriii for bringing attention to the consent of depression and mental illness, I myself have had thoughts of wondering if everyone would be happier if I just disappeared or was never born, but luckily I had an amazing school consoler who helped me talk about it and when my mom found out about my feelings we both talked and shed a few tears but I’m better, I mean I’m not totally fine but I’m doing a lot better and I just though “welp I’ll just live and have fun with my life while I’m on this plane of existence” what I’m trying to say is as long as you have someone who will listen to your problems or just seek help then things will get better. Rewatching this, I noticed how BROWN Shadow looks. It's especially noticable in the scenes where Shadow has all of the Chaos Emeralds and the Maria stages; after seeing it once you're never going to unsee it.
Here’s a little something I thought of: So Mr. G.U.N guy says because of Shadow's creation, the government killed Maria and/or his family.
And sure, he can blame Shadow for that, but later in the future he BECOMES THE COMMANDER OF THE SAME GOVERNMENT THAT KILLED A BUNCH OF PEOPLE ON THE ARK!!

@@DylanofScreenTime It's possible that he was lied to about it or told a story to justify G.U.N.'s actions. That and he blamed Shadow, which I assume means that he was told that Shadow did it and not the soldiers.
Otherwise, they were after him and Gerald, so maybe he was under the impression that Shadow had sacrificed her to escape instead of her saving him and sending him off the ARK.
Alternatively, we could just assume incompetence here as well in that Sega didn't let them fill that bit in.

I just want to say, that talk about depression and suicide is one of the most genuine I’ve heard period. I need to hear things like that a lot for reasons I’m not comfortable elaborating. It’s shocking and also inspiring to see something like that come from a parody/review of a game I played when I was 10. I wish I could show this to people like me in confidence without worrying they’d see it as a joke, because these words could help far more people than some randoms looking for videos complaining about sonic games.
I appreciate what you said in that video about suicide and depression and all that, sometimes I struggle a lot in life and I feel down just about everyday so thank you for the kind words Charriii, you're a good person.

i’ve come to make an announcement-
That bit about depression hit really hard, especially the part of "(...) you feel you're an arrogant asshole who has mess up in the past and is doomed to fail, (...) and you emotionally abuse yourself into thinking you could lose everyone or everything by having or doing something that makes you happy." I'm much better now, and have been doing my best to fight off those feelings, but I've struggled with those thoughts for most of my life at this point. It took me so long to finally give myself credit, to think and do things for myself, to recognize my mistakes help me grow, and let myself be happy just because I wanted to be happy. My therapist didn't help me more than any random person, the medicines I was prescribed flat out made me feel worse, and my parents and authority figures just didn't even try to understand or sympathize with me. I even tried to commit suicide with a self made poison, but puked it out before I could swallow. It was thanks to 4 great people I met online 7 years ago, just talking with them about random things, that I found a new, simple reason to keep living; to talk with them again. Kind of ironically, I haven't talked with them in a long time, and I don't even now if we'd be friends anymore with how much we've all changed, but I can't thank them enough for being nice to me and helping me want to try again, and I still want to keep living so I can try and make others as happy as they made me. They tried to understand me, they actively helped me cause they wanted to, and yet even now all I can I feel is that I guilt tripped them and abused their friendship, which isn't true, but that's what these feelings do to you; they make you feel like the people who love you and care about you don't love you, or that you're using them for selfish reasons and you're not worthy of them. It's a life long battle to stave off depression, and it's always going to find a way back into your life, but know that there's always a way out, even if you can't see it. Nothing lasts forever; not your happiness, not your sadness. You just have to keep persevering. You can do it. I believe in you, even as some random person in the internet who doesn't know you, cause if you won't, fuck knows I will. Don't be afraid to admit you need help, and getting the assistance you need, because everyone does, even if it's something as simple as talking to some friends or a professional, or getting prescription. Don't be afraid to get help because you afraid of being seen as "weak" or "different". Please, don't fall into that trap.
One last thing; I'm not gonna tell you to do your best, because I know you already are.

After watching this GamingSins of "Shadow the Hedgehog" (well, most of it, I paused to write this comment), I can't tell you how deeply touched I am that you took the time out of the review to open up about depression and other mental illnesses. Oddly enough, even though I never played this game, it means even more to me that you said those things in a Sonic the Hedgehog game, this series literally saved my life. As a child, a toxic blend of bullying at school, problems at home, and undiagnosed autism tore me apart every day. I was strongly considering suicide when I was 10 years old. The one thing that kept me going was my Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube.
I kept telling myself "if you do this, you'll never get to see how the games end!". And then a few months later, I first found Sonic X, and times gradually got better, with me finding solace in the Sonic series the whole time. Now, almost 20 years later, I am still a die-hard Sonic fan and am doing wonderfully; I just began a new job, and got my Switch copy of Sonic Colors: Ultimate. :) And what you said about how you never know that you can literally save someone's life with just a few kind words, I can attest 110% that it's true. These characters kept me alive when I wanted it all to stop, I wish I could tell the creators and voice actors how much they have done for me without knowing it (I don't care what anyone says, I thought Jason Griffith did a good job with both Sonic and Shadow). And thank you, @Charriii5 for helping to shed light and chip away at the stigma surrounding mental illness. To anyone reading this, I want you to know I care about you. You matter.
