And what? In Sonic 2 all Tails did was catch Sonic (only if you failed to get all 7 Emeralds which in that case he is just as useless as he was in Forces) literally after Sonic already beat Eggman all by himself. As for Sonic 3...what? Knuckles fights Mecha Sonic alone and had nothing to do with Sonic's fight against Eggman nor did Tails (again with the 7 Emeralds making him nearly useless)

Sonicthefellow7 That’s the direction I thought they were going with here, but nope! It’s, “Help me Sonic! I’m scared of Chaos 0 even though I fought Chaos 4 over a decade ago!” Plus, Tails being a wimp in this game ignores all of the character development he had back in Adventure, where he saved the city after realizing he can’t rely on Sonic all the time. Once again, Tails has been relegated to being the one who spells out the plot for us, just like in Colors and Generations.

at least, that's where they were likely going with it. I really wish they pushed this game out to 2018 or 2019, since they had mania to take the spot for the 2017 celebratory game. The concept for the story would have been excellent, if they had a longer game to pace it over, and more time to flesh it out

No, canonically speaking Sonic defeated Chaos 0, 4, 6 and Perfect. While Knuckles fought Chaos 2 and 6. The only enemy that Tails fought was the Egg Walker.

@@izayahcarter1406 I can explain that, the Phantom Ruby actually creates an alternate reality for its targets, that's why Eggman wouldn't die, the sun was real for Sonic and friends but for no one and nothing else.
The problem is that they don't explain the rules of the Phantom Ruby. Yes you see a sun there but do their brains register heat? I can hallucinate a car coming at me at 50 miles per hour. But once it "hits" me nothing happens. Because the car isn't actually there. And since I've never been hit by a car before my brain can't tell the rest of my body what it feels like to be hit by one. So aside for a bit of vertigo and a scare I was never actually in danger. The problem here is that Eggman proclaims that his Sun hallucination will kill them but by this point everyone knows the Phantom Ruby is just magic LSD. Nothing will happen when the Sun hits them and they won't go blind because the nerves in their actual eyes are fine. They're all just tripping balls. Their best play would've been to ignore the effects of the Phantom Ruby entirely and just beat up Eggman the way they always do. Because the Phantom Ruby can't actually hurt them.
you're correct, but if you watch closely everytime infinite actually sucessfully sets up a attack- he activates the ruby, and it makes a shockwave that expands- if THAT shockwave hits like sonic and co runnign up on a field, or the Original character right before infinite summons up a sun or some cannons- THEN and ONLY THEN will it hurt them, because that earlier effect made it so what it cooks up , warps reality. And then it's effects are real- as it warps reality. Unless you disrupt it, like with one of hte prototypes eggman was creating to somehow mimic the original ruby's power, or presumably a chaos emerald since they've been shown to not play nice with the phantom ruby(also being fully reality warping gems if you know how to use them) Yes, it's stupid, as the Ruby is a budget chaos emerald that needs to hit it's targets with a field, before it can affect them- along with offering some other minor powers. lol, it's also a budget, psuedo, needs-setup-to-activate reality gem, But anyway, one chaos emerald can actually probably do BETTER , without the stupid need-to-hit-enemy-with-a-effect-wave-before-i-can-really-hit-them thing. Also, i dont understand the power source stuff- it's seemed to be pretty powerful when it didnt have one. Same for the prototypes eggman made to mimic it...
And like, the ultimate fucking irony is that this ,,everyone is hopeless without Sonic" plotline could've worked perfectly. If the plot was about these characters realising that over the years, they have grown too dependent on Sonic, so they create an alliance to try to save him, the whole game could consist of different sections for different characters, where they would use their abilities for their advantage (stealth sections with Espio and Charmy from Team Chaotix, maybe Vector beating up Eggman's minions and interrogating them, considering that he's the only competent detective in the entire agency ffs, or the entire team holding investigations in places Eggman was seen, so they could snitch on him to the alliance; Shadow could replace Sonic for speed levels, etc.), like they could get really creative with this. And then, they could add an ,,Episode Sonic" where we would see him trying to escape the fleet and then team up with the rest to fight Infinite and Eggman together. The whole OC thing can also be added, maybe as an additional mode. Besides, a plot like this could lay out the ground for the next games, where they can incorporate and utilize their characters. All I'm saying is, the writers missed out BIG time.

I honestly thought that it was an illusion that was limited by Infinite’s lacking knowledge on the term “convection.” Or maybe it was one of those weird sun-like attacks like Frieza’s Supernova from Dragon Ball Z that doesn’t hurt you unless it actually hits you. Except in SA1 it actually took effort to get him to fuck off, here he just, leaves. Like I'd be more ok if he even appeared again even as an illusion from the phantom ruby, but to my knowledge he's not even in that giant ass skirmish near the end of the game, so he's just straight up gone.

The 4 clones Infinite created at the start of the game were able stomp on Sonic. Yet in the climax, the generic citizens are able to fight them off and your friends plow through them. Inverse Ninja Law at its most egregious.

What a better idea would be is to mass produce stuff like androids, and Artificial Chaos, and Metal Sonics and such. They may not be as powerful as custom made, but they would be durable.

Fun fact: the 6 month time skip and infinites backstory were added late into development, hence why things don't look as bad as they should the weird lines like about sonic and the shuttle. And infinites backstory was straight up added AFTER HIS THEME WAS MADE. It was originally just eggman dabbling in his grandfather's field of bioengineering literally creating infinite, but they realized people expected an ACTUAL backstory and so jury-rigged the backstory we got. Without bothering to change the dialogue implying his original backstory as an organic quasi-metal sonic

Fun fact: The line that says Sonic was tortured for six months was actually a translation error. Nobody actually mentions that he was tortured in the Japanese version.

Now I see why Knuckles's resistance army was failing so hard. He makes ridiculous choices.
1) "Look, Sonic, I know you just endured six months of torture in captivity as the world descended into despair, but do you think you could destroy a weapons factory real quick? No, we're not gonna send anyone with you, are you nuts? Thanks, buddy."
2) "Hmm, this could be our chance to take a city. THROW EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE AT IT!"
Also, it feels like multiple people were writing this game's script but didn't talk to each other. That's the only way I could explain away the GIGANTIC inconsistencies here.
Montesama314 if you research the team behind it, the game was made BY LITERAL NEWBIES. Most of the game was made by the interns who never made a sonic level save for the head who only made lost world, the development was mostly sanctioned to be done by A MOBILE PHONE GAME COMPANY, and the only experts or veterans of the sonic cast who return are the voice actors (just kidding, they are too in actually caring and emoting and being the character) and two people on music, one who did sonic colors and a few similar and jun senuoe, who was the music director from sonic 3 to about unleashed or one past and is part of crush 40. Its kinda sad when your only seasoned or veteran returning people for sonic is the freakin music people and no one else...
Is he a robot or one of the anthro animals like Sonic (he's an anthro jackal, it turns out, but I only learned that by learning that a prequel comic existed and watching the Shadow DLC)? How strong is he? Is he messing with reality, or casting illusions? Can he get his ass kicked by some random avatar, or is only Sonic teamed up with others strong enough to save the day? The writer or writers don't know the answer to those questions, and neither does the audience.
It's telling that the only Sonic game veterans are in the area of the music, because the soundtrack for this game is actually pretty cool.
Isn't it insulting that Tails misses the Sonic from another dimension? The Sonic in his dimension, who's been with him presumably since retro Sonic times, is right there!

MsFluffyninja7 yeah, especially since the modern sonic of this decade is more focused on comedy (mostly dumb and forced with one or two good ones in there), this was a huge missed comedic opportunity. Maybe the chaotix lead a raid and confront eggman and say "we're here for that payment, eggman" or maybe he tries to distract them to get away by telling them he will pay them or have payment fall on them as a distraction. I know one of those sounds dumb but it would have worked better than not using it
Now that you said it, I feel like Eggman should have been the one paying them especially considering the reveal in Sonic Heroes. Though, now that I think about it more, Eggman was trying to get out of paying them in the end so it doesn't seem like Eggman has a good credit rating for mercenaries.

What surprises me most about the Forces-Phantom Ruby is that it's kind of easy to explain away.
Eggman makes a bunch based on what the OG Phantom Ruby did. They're not as good, but they can get the job done under these circumstances.
If you're within range of Infinite activating the ruby, your body will sense what "illusions" he makes up. If the illusions would've caused death, you've gone catatonic. If you're out of range, everybody just looks crazy to you.
Remember when everyone could do wrk? And the Chaos Emeralds were at the center of the story? I do. Good times

I love how the Shadow story was supposed to go into more detail on backstories and whatnot, but all they reveal is how Infinite just got triggered over Shadow being edgier than him. They don't reveal how he got hooked up to the Phantom Ruby, they don't reveal where he comes from, they don't even reveal his face. All you need to know is that Infinite hates Shadow or something.

Weirdly Episode Shadow actually made me want Forces story to be focused on Team Dark and not Team Sonic. I mean it felt pretty good to see Team Dark back in action. They are literally the only ones who weren't useless...then again somehow it took Shadow nearly half a year to showup and help Sonic.

No that can't be it since right after Shadow snaps out of it Rouge tells Shadow about Eggman's attack which he then proceeds to head out and try to help out Sonic. It's never explained why it took him half a year to finally reach Sonic and the others despite having no problem reaching the City in a small amount of time during the DLC.

A question I don't really see asked is... did Shadow use Chaos Control without an emerald, or does he have an emerald and we just don't see it? Either way, with that Shadow should be able to take on Infinite, either by himself or teamed up with someone else like Silver. If you think about it, Shadow + Silver should be even more effective against Infinite than Sonic + OC was.
Um shadow was always able to use chaos control with out a emerald and has chaos powers I mean he is made out of chaos energy

My thing with Forces is why did Tails have a mental breakdown when Sonic was gone? In Sonic Adventure 2, when he thinks Sonic got blown into a hundred pieces, he didn't have a breakdown he just acted brave because he knew that's what Sonic would want. #fail

Sonic is the type of character will use snark to relieve/hide his stress. Eggman torturing sonic was most likely just Eggman forcing Sonic to watch every one lose hope wile he's unable to do any thing.
Are you sure, Eggman would only use psychological torture against Sonic? You'd assume, Eggman would have a ball bustin' that Hedgehog's kneecaps, so he ain't goin' anywhere. Sonic took a pipe from Eggman's Jetpack in Lost World and let him fall to his doom.

Tbh, if Sonic would've had at least one slightly crazy line in the game, I would've assumed he was water tortured, because:
a). While it does nothing to the body, it's known for being an incredibly mindscrewing thing, up to the point of driving people crazy. Sure it takes time, but I mean, they had 6 months, I'm sure that would've been enough to have some effect on his mental state;
b). Sonic hates water so, bonus discomfort.
I still doubt that this was Eggman's only way of torturing him, considering the amount of physical pain Eggman has to go through everytime! You'd think he'd have a fucking blast sending a cuffed Sonic to fight clones of the bad guys, just so he be used to wipe the floor with. Face it. They created this line, just so they can look super dark, but they didn't have the balls to go through with it.
I think the most viable answer is that eggman forced him to do some arena fights against a bunch of powerful robots in a reduced space, and once Sonic's done, shoot him with a paralizer and lock him again, and about the personality don't changing, I think this game should have referenced what chip said back in unleashed, that not even the energy from a demon was able to change him

7:34 Honestly, the "classic sonic is from another dimension" part is pretty reasonable if you take into consideration the fact that Sonic met Sonic in Generations. SOMETHING was bound to happen from a "time" perspective, other than the Time Eater crap. So basically, After Sonic met Sonic in Generations, the timeline split. So basically, all the Classic games take place in both timelines, in exception to Mania which takes place in the Classic timeline alone, and every non-Classic game from SA1 onward (so literally everything except Mania) takes place in exclusively the Modern timeline. In other words, Forces didn't make the retcon, Generations did, and in a way that makes sense other than an unexplained retcon in Forces.
It's a mistranslation. It said "from the past" but the translators got confused when Eggman said something like "You're that Sonic from another world, aren't you?"

I think that all classic sonic games up until sonic 3 and knuckles take place in both timelines, in the original timeline where generations doesn’t happen, sonic adventure and all of the games after it (not including mania) happen right after sonic 3 and knuckles, while all of the other classic games (chaotix, 3d blast, mania, etc.) happen after 3 and knuckles in the timeline where generations DOES happen.

The Phantom Ruby doesn't really have virtual reality powers, it has more augmented reality powers. It seems to be able to change reality to it's user's will. But another Phantom Ruby prototype is able to nullify those augmentations. Does that help?

I've played most of the games, including ones where Shadow's present(not mentioning the Olympic games). but haven't noticed a scene in them where he makes a genuine smile. I think, regardless of how long Sonic was gone, it was said instinctually. Like how humans want our parents when we're scared out of our minds. Sonic is basically Tails' adopted big brother. And, yes, Tails could've fought Chaos on his own, but think about it. Sonic's been missing for six months, presumed to be dead. Tails doesn't find out he's alive until after Classic fights Eggman in Green Hill, which is well after he's attacked and Classic comes into the picture. Tails is probably terrified without his big brother figure. I know I would be. Remember, Tails is 8. I think it makes perfect sense why he'd be wanting Sonic to save him, and why he wouldn't attack Chaos. Just my interpretation.

My main problem with how Tails is being treated is that he's becoming more of a character that is just there for the ride and doesn't have much of a role or thing to do.
Plus for Lost World, they made Tails actually be on Eggman's team and turned him into a cyborg. At least he had something than nothing and always relying on Sonic.

Ok here me out for a second,
I believe that the phantom ruby itself is, indeed, able to create illusions so real that they are basically reality. My head cannon is that Eggman tried to mass produce phantom ruby copies to fuel his empire. Additionally he embedded one into infinite as both a test, and as a way to make a new enforcer.
That being said, the real phantom ruby was most likely studied or kept in a machine for cloning up until the final battle where Eggs Benedict decided "Screw it, time for the real thing" as a way to guarantee his victory.
So basically Eggman would have found the phantom ruby, cloned/mass produced it, and allowed Hot Topic the Edgelord to hold onto it so that he can spread the chaos. Which would additionally explain how Eggmans phantom rubies are "Prototypes" and how they manage to pull of the illusion thing. It wouldn't be an illusion like the real one, but because everyone thinks it is, it does the job.
I am not trying to justify poor storytelling, believe you me. But hopefully this would help the story make a tad bit more sense.
