Fallout 4: The Railroad Rebellion (Part 2)

- In this video we return to Fallout 4, the Minutemen, and the Commonwealth storyline. The video was a bit rushed out the door because I wanted to wrap up this chapter and move on to Far Harbor. Still, I hope you enjoy.
Background:
After the Railroad suffered defeat after defeat in the more urban regions of the Commonwealth, they retreated to the countryside and have been on the verge of collapse ever since. Now they've turned to Goodneighbor for aid, and while they were turned away at first, eventually an alliance would form after the Grant administration began its persecution of Ghouls.
Now the Railroad's ranks are swelling with new recruits and equipment. It seems the Railroad is back in the fight, but President Grant has no intention of sitting idly by as the Railroad attempts to regain its strength.

The minutemen would never stand for this
Preston Garvey maybe, but the rest of the Minutemen are unlikely to have anymore of an issue with it than the general public. The Railroad look down on the Minutemen and Commonwealth population as a whole. The goody two shoes types like Garvey weren't too happy about it, but the rest of the Minutemen leadership didn't really have much of a reason to care. They were already busy as is with the Northern Expansion /Far Harbor intervention, it was better to not get any more involved than what was required of them.
I love how much this Commonwealth nation represents how the NCR started to grow. Everybody love the NCR, but almost no one knows how cold-blooded they had to be, just to get to where they are. Fallout 2 demonstrated this exact fact.
The video felt a bit rushed, but I wanted to close this chapter for good as it's been 5 months since the last mainline story video released. Still, it came out better than expected and the new narrator voice certainly helped with that. From here we go North to explore the Far Harbor Intervention and parts of the Commonwealth's Northern Expansion. I'll possible also be releasing another Fallout video in between. Though I'll post more about that in the Community section once I make my decision.

As brutal as the Commonwealth ended up being, the Railroad was just through and through unhinged terrorists.
I really like the whole aspect of the citizen militias who initially supported the government’s anti Railroad stance, becoming a major thorn in the side of the federals once the war was over
Like anti communist militias in south america that were convenient to fight guerillas, but started to become a liability down the line as they refused to stand down
Its reminds me of CGP Grey's video on "The Keys to Power".
The factions you need to rise to power are different from the ones needed to maintain power and as a result someone has to fold.
You did a great job at showing the grey area of war. Most media depicts opposing sides as pure good or evil and this is a nice change from that!👍👍

Sad that Commonwealth government became more bureaucratic and segregationist than the NCR
Released as a logical end, even the Institute destroyed, a frenetic people scared of the synthetics, likewise the Red scare during the pre-third war era, remains in some minds of the growing commonwealth parliament.Seeing for some anti-Institute hard-lined elements as "Shaun's loyalists" dormant units.

The NCR is exactly like this they don't allow ghouls to have such power. They don't allow "free" independent settlements on their territory, and they dissapprove of any private militia on NCR territory. They have become imperialists, and if you don't pay taxes, then that's federal territory from now on.

Had never heard of it until now.
I've got my own canon for what happened after Fallout 4, where the Sole Survivor ensured equal rights for synths and mutants, but yours is very interesting and kind of heartbreaking. To think that the Sole Survivor's work was bastardized by greedy, bigoted politicians, it's just so sad!

Well tbf the Minutemen didn't get much screen time in this video. Most of the focus was on the Army and Marines who are not part of the MM. The MM were more independent and as a result, more rebellious. An example would be Ghoul segregation, the MM rejected the government's demands to segregate their forces and that causes tension, but it's something that doesn't really fit the subject of the video so it doesn't make it in.
It will likely be explored more when we get to the Nuka World chapter because that's when the political polarization in the Commonwealth reaches its peak.

This version of the minutemen have strong ncr and even some enclave vibes to it. For america I fully support it!
Some people are unhappy with how The Commonwealth is turning out, but I’m actually quite happy with how realistic this is.
First of all, the wasteland is the LAST place a Liberal Democracy could thrive, which is why we see the Enclave and the Post-Mojave NCR under Authoritarian governments. If the Commonwealth wants to expand, and eventually rebuild New England, there gonna need strength and order, just not so much they abandon EVERYTHING the nation stood for.
Second of all, the Railroad is dealt with. I’ve always seen the Railroad as the worst faction in the game. Not only did they abandon their original mission of saving HUMAN slaves in order to save machines with questionable claims to sentience, but in their quest to do so they destroy the two most powerful groups in the Commonwealth, creating a regional power vacuum they have no plan for. This of course would result in groups like the Gunners moving in and taking power from the under-equipped and undertrained Minutemen.
Third of all, the segregationist policies do ultimately make sense. Unlike our world, there are valid reasons for it. All Ghouls turn feral eventually, so best to make sure there not around anyone they could hurt when it happens. As for Synths, the same thing applies. Events like the Broken Mask incident in Diamond City show that Synths could malfunction in fatal ways, or worse, still work for rogue Institute personnel. Besides, if the Commonwealth government shut down Synth production, which the Brotherhood would have ensured, Synths now have no means of reproduction. Why grant equality to a group of dangerous Terrorist-Tools that will mostly die off within the decade?

Well anybody can become twisted in a war. Prejudice is also nothing new. Synths are tied to the Institute which terrorized the Commonwealth. Ghouls are tied to the Goodneighbor which already has a bad reputation and the Railroad who are currently terrorizing the Commonwealth.
It WASN’T the Minutemen. Most of the work was a joint Brotherhood-UCT army op.
The Minutemen are still a separate entity.

That map is the one from FO4s satellite world map mod. The unit icons are images from the internet that I trace over and modify as needed.

I wouldn't say they've gone facsist. War crimes and political suppression aren't unique to fascism or even authoritarianism. The government is still mostly democratic, but they've done some things that would be associated with autocratic regimes. Much like the US in our own world.
