I hate when I buy a book, and find out there is a cover that's 10000X more beautiful afterwards D:
WaresTheWolf same 😂 it’s the worst 😂
Omg me too 😂😂
@@dafxve588 speak
WaresTheWolf I’ve never look for different covers but I’m so going to start
me with carry on
The last time i was this early people still loved Tamlin
Fantasy Junkie Made me laugh 😂 😂
I never thought a comment could make me laugh so much 😂
Same lol 😂
🤣🤣🤣 I never liked Tamlin!
what is tamlin?
Hmmm I usually prefer the UK version of covers... but I mostly picked the US versions of these ones 😱
Same! USA totally was better in this video :'( x we getting all the crappy covers x
Same!!
Me too but the UK covers are actually different from the US. We've seen those designs of these book covers.
Jay G yeah same
I see you in like the comments of every single bookish video, like what the heck 😂
Mostly I see our Indian books have UK covers mostly.
True.
You wrote mostly twice
I am an Indian too
For the three dark crowns one there is actually three different types one for each queen so you can kind of choose which queen you want to support😁📚❤️
That's super cool!!!
The snake cover is my favourite!
Ariadne Lydia same that’s the one I have😁
Yes I loved that so much. I searched so long to get the green book with the snake on it 🐍💚
Joe do you know where you can get all three different covers? I really want to get them all!
My BIGGEST US vs UK gripe is all of Laini Taylor's books. I swear, her US publisher must have a grudge against her because those editions are so much uglier than the UK ones! Strange the Dreamer is okay, but the US covers for the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series are some of the worst things I've ever seen lol. I get so heated about it because her beautiful words deserve beautiful covers.
Katie Lantz I agree!!! What were they thinking with those covers?? I almost didn’t read the first one because of the covers. The UK covers are GORGEOUS!!
I agree gurl, they looked like books published around the end 1900s
I ordered the new covers for dosab literally the second they came out even though I already own the series because the old covers were so ugly
I think the UK covers for Marissa Meyer's books make them look like middle grade books, but they look so nice!
For 'Three Dark Crowns', the UK had three different covers with each one representing a different queen. Red, yellow and green.
I've spoken at lot about how much I dislike the UK cover for 'Renegades'. It makes it look like a companion novel to 'Heartless' which it certainly it not. Clearly it was done by the same artist who did the UK cover for Heartless. I bought the US edition because I wanted that cover.
Who doesn't judge a book by a cover at times? I'm starting to judge spines now too...because I have to look at them when they're on a shelf. Luckily though, you can always "invert" them so we see the edge instead. This was a comparison video Hailey :D
a great*
You prefer us or uk
I much prefer the US Renegades cover to the UK version. The UK one seems kiddish, but the must important reason why I like the US version more is because it's more bold which to me kind of describes Renegades.
I usually prefer the US editions but majority of these i preferred the UK editions. I sometimes hate busy covers. ALSO the And I Darken UK cover fits the tone of the book WAY more than the US like if you read the synopsis it sounds pretty brutal which the US cover does not convey.
Completely agree! While the US version is pretty, it doesn't suit the tone of the book the way the UK cover does. Also the UK cover is really striking and unique whereas the US cover looks basically the same as any other YA fantasy book cover
Seeing this, I can't wait to see what image you choose for your book that you're writing!
Taylor Generally authors don't have anything to say concerning their covers, design, tours, etc...
Danie Smile that depends if you’re self publishing or not. Self publishing depends on the editor chosen to design the book cover, in which usually the good ones let the authors have somewhat of a say. Traditional publishing is where you’re right and the author has little to no say of their book cover.
Editor's change alot of the story too, its almost like its not yours anymore
I usually prefer UK covers (which is good because I live in Australia where we get the UK covers). In this video though the US covers were probably the winners.
I'm in a funny position because I'm American, but I live in the UK! I get the covers jumbled up in my head, especially if they're older books. I usually prefer the UK covers though, so I clearly made the right decision when I moved.
Just a note, Uprooted used to have a different UK cover, which is amazing and makes it look much more like a fairytale retelling! It's a cream background with a red thorn bush and gold foil - it's so beautiful!
I Should Read That uprooted has still that uk cover. I recently bought it in waterstones
Emma L. Thank goodness, I think it's so much nicer 😄
I Should Read That I totally agree with you
I Should Read That Yeah! I cannot find the other U.K. Cover for uprooted, except for the one you just described.
I really dislike the UK cover of THUG! I literally made it my mission to get the US cover when I was in New York last year haha! I actually really really don't like the UK cover for Renegades! I loved this video!
The iconic Amsterdam houses are called Herenhuizen :)
Book videos are like my favourite videos to watch and I have so much appreciation for all the book tubers out there! Love u Hailey!💓
i love this so much!! i love book covers and it’s always interesting how covers end up
This is such a cool idea. Its interesting to see the other covers... and then judge them.
Yay I love looking at US Vs UK covers! For me, which cover I like more really depends on the book!
PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE. They are so fun to watch and see. 😊❤️
So glad you made another one of these!!!
I don't think I'll ever stop, I enjoy them too much!
The only thing eith the uk. Hardbacks dont exist. Or theyll last for a week and disappear into the black hole of hardbacks. And therefore all the covers are suited for paperbacks mostly
Iamme 123 not just in UK. Americans seem to get all the good hard covers XD
E443 Productions Its so annoying cause hardcovers are beautiful but are missing everywhere other than America 😔
Exactly! I recently moved to Canada and there actually are hardcovers (Although they vanish after paperbacks are published). Started binge buying those great hardcovers
E443 Productions Thats what i do as soon as it comes out in hardcover i buy it straight away gotta get them quick
I personally prefer paper backs, also the fact that UK paperbacks arent floppy makes me love them more
I generally dislike covers that are a photograph, especially if it’s of the characters/movie cast. Also, the spine is most important because that’s the part I see everyday. 😍
I only found your channel about a week ago after watching The Irish Reader. Been making my way through your videos 💚 and I keep wishing I had enough books to make a rainbow shelf 😂 maybe one day cause I will say these videos are giving me tons of recommendations
Yay! I love these videos
Love these videos!!
I'm absolutely in love with your accent! I'm Italian and you're one of the few UA-camrs I understand talking!
Hailey your my favourite UA-camr and you inspire me to read more. Love ya 💕
OMG I love the UK cover for Three Dark Crowns. So gorgeous
For And I Darken, the UK cover is actually a historically accurate image of Vlad the Impaler redone with a woman. Originally I rather disliked the UK covers for the series, which are the ones I have, but they look so good in person. Also the second book cover in particular reminds me of character portraits from video games set in the Forgotten Realms which is just nostalgia overload :) .
ur vids r just so fun to watch...luv ya lots hailey
#earlysquad!
This kind of video of yours is my favorite eveeeer!!! I love this!!!
I am so glad that my dad’s officemate gave me the UK Edition of the Harry Potter books because they are so freaking beautiful!
I love those videos, they're so cool! 😍 In France we often have the US covers for books but sometimes it's a totally different one (not US and not UK)
These are some of my favorite videos you make!
It's been so long u did one of these videos. I know that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but let's face it who can resist a beautiful cover😍😍😍. We are human after all😂😂
Really enjoy watching these videos and hearing your thoughts.
For me it was 14 to the UK and 7 to the US.
I've also immediately put Sleight in my Amazon basket, and pre-ordered The Price Guide to the Occult.
I wish I had the US cover for The Hazel Wood!
For And I Darken, I love the UK cover ❤️ I specifically ordered that cover because I loved it so much
I love when you do this type of video!
Wow. I have now noticed how simple our covers are! This is why I shop on Amazon unless I need it now!
This was such a fun video!
Yay! I love these videos!
One of my favorite parts about traveling is looking at different Harry Potter covers, haha. Great video!
Stop ! Harry pot.... stop ..book and film is bad.
I hadn't seen that Renegades cover before - it's really good!! And my favorite thing is that it's very similar to the Heartless cover - I like when authors have their book covers in similar styles :)
YAAAASSS I love these videos!!
Love how you analyze the covers. :)
Hailey, your puns were killing me! haha. *sips timmies* Loved the video!
Love this kind of video 😊❤
I love when you do these videos. I tend to lean more towards the US since that’s where I’m from. I did love a couple of these UK ones.
I laughed so hard when you said you were Switzerland hahahaha!! Great vid
The uk cover of Renegades is done in the same style as Heartless! I love that they’d match on the shelf so I might have to buy it lol
Hey! I loved this video! I actually prefer the renegades US cover! 🙈
Btw, do you recommend your bookshelves? Because I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some said that the top shelf can’t take many books because it bends after some time
Orphan Monster Spy US cover reminds me of Red Sparrow starring Jennifer Lawrence. Also, your Hazel Wood puns had me cracking up 😂
Luv these vids Hailey
So glad you enjoy them!!
I love these kind of videos
With Orphan Monster Spy, you said that you didn't get the thought process of the UK cover because you haven't read the book, has your mind change on a cover since you read the book? Like do you understand one versus the other now?
As an Australian, it really depends, I generally prefer the US covers, but I do have plenty of UK covers as well. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to choose between them, and I occasionally end up buying both.
I love these videos - it's so cool to see how similar or how different a book cover is! Also, I'm confused haha! Did you mix up Queen of Hearts? I'm from Scotland and I've genuinely never seen that cover but the one you showed as US is the one we have here? Either way, the one that looks like a card is my favourite! :)
Okay, curiosity got the better of me and Book Depository lists the other cover as being published in the States in 2014 by Sparkpress who seem to be a weird sort of hybrid between self publishing and indie publishing house but in 2016 Harper Collins took it on :)
I love these videos!!!!
I’m in the UK and I’ve only ever seen the ‘US’ editions of the Queen of Hearts and Words in the Deep Blue in stores🤷🏼♀️ never seen the UK ones you included but I do definitely prefer the US ones. Great video as always Hailey 💗💗
"As usual, I'm Switzerland bc I'm Canada" 😂😂
I purchased "Sleight" from a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Nashville a few weeks ago, and it was the more elaborate one 😍
I am definitely more drawn to the UK covers. I really like that they are more simple in most cases and often order books through book depository just to get the UK cover. Like for instance all of Brandon Sanderson’s books, pachinko, the hate you give, little fires everywhere and homegoing...I preferred the UK editions. 😊 Loved the video!
I love the UK covers of classic books!! Penguin English Library has me hyped up 😩
My best friend and I are sending each other the hardbacks of Caraval and Legendary by Stephanie Garber because we each prefer the opposite haha. (Though I do love both!)
He loves the US and lives in UK.
I love the UK and live in Canada. (Where we get the US covers.)
Wow! The Price Guide to the Occult UK cover is amazing! I haven't seen that before and I think I also prefer it to the US one, but it's so close. I usually prefer UK covers but with these examples I mostly chose US!
I enjoy some of both. I adore the UK Love and Gelato cover more than the US. In the US we have the gray/silver cover of Sleight. Thanks for doing these videos! I don't usually see the UK covers of books, so this series is awesome :)
I love your puns! They are my flavorite? I agreed with most of your choices. One of the only books where I had to have the UK cover was Heartless. However, I love my Owlcrate special edition cover for that too. I just have both, which is something that I do for few books (besides Shakespeare or Vintage books I find at the thrift store/Inherit).
I agreed with all your choices!!! Yipeee🤩
I love these videos
I love looking at the different covers from US & UK. I Don't tend to favor one or the other, it really just goes book by book and I can usually get either because I live in Belgium and have to order them online.
As for the Sleight cover, the one you showed the picture of is the UK version, but might also be available in the US.
I'm from US and I found your channel and I love it❤❤
I tend to be half and half when it comes to US and UK covers. I'd certainly go for the US cover for I See London, I See France/The Girls Guide to Summer because I'm always taken in by French icons and it's much more aesthetically pleasing to me with the white background. The same goes with Under Rose Tainted Skies because the bright pink of the UK cover just puts me off entirely where as I'm attracted to the white, pastel shades of the US cover.
It would be super cool if you put a poll in the info button so that, we, the viewers can contribute our preferences. Love these videos!!
I MUCH prefer the UK cover for the uprooted book😍 I'm Canadian too but, as I say in my DNA video, I have some UK heritage lol! But I am not bias though a lot of times I prefer the US cover. Like the hate u give cover and the girl in the blue coat. I'm actually reading girl in the blue coat this summer and am super excited!❤️❤️
I'm obsessed with the UK cover of Strange the Dreamer
I have a 3rd cover for Uprooted. I’m in Australia so I don’t know what edition it is
In the uk version of the three dark crowns books there are 3 different covers that you can pick with the three different crowns so you can pick the one that you support
I have Uprooted in another UK edition that has a tower surrounded by thorned roses and I love that cover.
Also I buy most of my books online so I always choose the prettiest cover. I have a local bookstore that orders books from all over the world so they have every possible edition
THE PUNS KILLLEDDDD ME I LOVE IT
We have the UK cover of Sleight here in Sweden. Loved this video btw
I really loved this video! Most of the time I agree with you! Maybe someday you can compare us covers with dutch covers :))
For Sleight the pretty cover is in my Barnes & Noble NYC.
the UK version of Astonishing color of after reminds me of the cover of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of
Ava Lavender
I agree with most of your choices! The UK cover for Orphan Monster Spy def seems more Gatsby than WWII tbh, I’ll have to read to see if it makes sense
Words in Deep Blue UK cover makes me want to read the book. I'm curious... where can you go to order books and order specific covers? I do like a lot of the US covers, but prefer some of the UK covers. And I'd love to have that option to pick.
Why do they change the covers for different countries?
They make it so it will appeal to a different market. It's quite fascinating, in my nerdy opinion
I also think that because the cover is done in cooperation with other companies, the foreign publisher would have to buy the rights for it too. That is why the covers in the UK are more simple, they wouldn’t want to spend a fortune on a cover when they already have to buy the rights for the book itself. Not sure if it’s true tho!
Yaryna UK Audiences prefer photographs and simple covers on our books, whereas US audiences prefer illustrated and colourful covers with intricate designs or eye-catching designs. This is from market research that I've read. As someone from the UK, I usually prefer the US covers 😂
This is super interesting because I'm in Australia and I thought we always got the UK version but there are multiple instances in this vid where I've seen the US cover on our shelves instead of the UK cover, or we have something completely different from both.
I really like this kind of videos from you. Also I agree with you in a lot of these and I think I can consider myself „Switzerland“ as well, because I‘m from Germany. Maybe you could do an international version of this kind of videos someday? I think that could be fun too. Hope you have a nice day. ❤️
i gasped out loud when you said you preferred the uk cover of price guide lol i LOVE the us version so much more
I got the Immortal Instruments in UK paperback because I preferred it over the US cover (and the spines are awesome combined) One of the rare times I preferred the UK a lot more
You and I have very different taste in covers, apparently.
Love and gelato is an amazing book loved that!!!
I love heartless UK cover.
Your puns are the best 😂
I love hearing your opinion 💖
I personally really liked the Uprooted cover for the U.K. It's very much my cup of tea in terms of illustration
What is your photo on profil ?
Incase you wanted to know, the row of houses are called terraced houses. Great video!
We use to get the UK covers for the Redwall series in Canada as well, I was disappointed when we switched because I prefer the UK covers and my collection dose not match.
