I agree! I do not gravitate towards books with actual people on their covers. I prefer them to be more artistic.

i hate real people on covers, i'm ok with illustrations of people but if that can be avoided too i prefer it, but if it has a picture of people the graphic designer in me dies a little on the inside
Does anyone else hate when paperbacks have the short cover and show a strip of the colour on the second page? lol.

I will not buy a book with that. I absolutely hate it. The front cover never stays flat!

Just a note: I'm counting the that paperbacks have a different cover than the hardcovers as a cover change, since it is one of sorts ☺️

I love the Grisha trilogy cover changes. The new covers re-sparked my interest in reading the series.

Cinda Williams Chima has always had books produced in the style of the old "Flamecaster" look since before Divergent came out with her fist book The Demon King.
Oh my gosh, I love Noughts and Crosses with all my heart and I'm so happy to finally see someone mention it ❤ it's the first contemporary series I ever read and I found it through a book club at school when I was about 13 (I think) and it's just incredible.
However, in regards to covers, I much prefer the first one, or at least the first one in the UK 'cause the one you showed was actually the second one released in the UK 😂 the cover design is exactly the same but the first one is purely black and white, which is just really simplistic and aesthetically pleasing to me and it fits the story perfectly.
Although I like the look of the new Noughts and Crosses cover more, I feel like the old one actually conveys the message of the story a little bit better.
I found myself nodding along with your choices, with the exception of maybe one or two (The Legacy of Kings, I think is the title, and Something Strange & Deadly, I chose both old covers). I almost disagreed about the Shadow & Bone trilogy, but then you mentioned how the animals on the covers match the ones featured in each book, I had to agree. I've only read the first book, but the white stag on the new cover fits it so well.
I really like your "cover" videos :) I mostly agree with your thoughts and preferences about the covers.
The old one of Rebel of the Sands is indeed so much more prettier, I hope the third book will have that same cover style...

you should definitely read noughts and crosses. personally i love the old cover because I feel like it captures the story more but it's a really good book.

It's so funny how a book cover can draw you in or turn you off. Some of the books you reviewed I had no desire to read, but seeing the changes made me rethink. And vice versa.

They're actually publishing two sets of covers for all three! The UK covers all match the original blue one. They just released a photo of the cover of the third book and it's really pretty :)

I NEED THOSE NEW GRISHA COVERS... They are so beautiful. I am still secretly pissed because of the Rebel of the Sands change! I purchased the hardcover which cost a fortune in Australia because it was so beautiful... then the Traitor to the Throne doesn't match and it hurts my heart a little hahaha.
I agree so much with the rebel in the sands! I recently went to the U.K. And got the traitor to the throne there bc then the covers will kinda match now ;) SO EXCITED!

I'm glad you talked about the Grisha trilogy as I never see anyone mention them ! I kind of prefer the original one as I think the font is more unique, but I'm not a big fan of either. I love the purple color though

I read Salt to the Sea and it tore out my heart! I cried. It was so good though because of how it was based on an historical event. I like the original cover best. It portrays the boat and water and their mission while the shoes follows a quote stated several times.
Aw it's such a shame they changed the cover for Rebel Of The Sands, it was practically a cover buy for me ! Love the teal and the gold. I think it fits the story a lot better !
The thing about the old Flamecaster cover is the fact that it fits with all of Cinda's old books. I personally prefer the old cover but oh well
The original Grisha books have the animal on each of the covers too. Smaller and at the top. Although your copy of Shadow and Bone is missing the stag horns that are on the grey cover.
I don't like both of the "The summer I turned pretty" covers because I think the german one is prettier. The old cover may fit better to the story but it's not really mine.
The german title is "Der Sommer, als ich schön wurde" if you want to take a look. :)
I really like the old cover for Rebel of the Sands. The german version is also nice looking. If you are intrested it is called Amani Rebellin des Sandes.
There's actually another cover for the Dark Days Club as well. It's blue with the same font as the "old" one and also people on it

The three animals are on the original Grisha books too, it's just more subtle.

Have you seen the UK covers for The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy? They are hands down my favourite compered to the US and new covers, they're some of the prettiest books on my shelf 😊
I haven't read any single books shown in this video but mostly I prefer the old covers. By the way Hails just want you to know that I'm going to read ACOTAR trilogy, Throne of Glass and Six of Crows because you mentioned them multiple times on your channel. I got the Grisha trilogy during the holidays on sale. BN had a 20% off coupon off of one item. Best tip for that sort of thing is to purchase BOXED SETS, because then you technically get 20% off all the books in that box... And guaranteed, they already discounted the price of the books in the box compared to the individual books. So I'm not going to buy the new covers since I already got a good deal on them anyway.

Have you seen the new cover for Looking for Alaska (it's my favorite book), they are so pretty! Although I prefer the cover that has the smoke coming from the bottom of the book. Which is your favorite edition of Looking for Alaska?
You know, normally I prefer older covers. Maybe it's just my hatred of change, but idk. I would say my least favorite cover changes are probably from the Unwind series and Alex Flynn's Breathing Underwater. My favorite cover change, however, probably belongs to either the shadow box Nabokov covers or the one for A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra.
I just finished Knife's Edge. For some reason I didn't realise it was a sequel to noughts and crosses, but I read that a while ago and everything made sense. It was really good, but I also was unaware it was part of a trilogy - so I'll have to get that too.
