[Spoilers don't read if you haven't played OneShot yet] I'd say the main difference between world machine and computer is that with computer, some of the things are just so much more surprising and interesting. It would just never be able to replicate the chills I got when the game said my own name, or when it changed my wall paper when I wasn't looking. World machine is probably really good but if you had to chose, probably go for the PC version.

I 100% agree. It's something that is definitely recommended to try out if you're a fan or don't have a pc. Imporant note and spoliers: It's possible to replay post-solstice but only the non-solstice runs. At the title screen there will be a .... option below the exit option. The same reason as DDLC Plus I see. The magic of some of the puzzles were the fact that it ACTUALLY effected your computer, rather than an in-game machine. It just takes the shock value out of the game
So I literally just discovered this game a couple of days ago. A friend of mine told me about it, and since I had some money from a gift card on my Switch, I decided to buy it. Keep in mind, I’ve never heard of the game before, let alone play it. It was certainly an emotional rollercoaster of a game. I played DDLC+ before, and the idea of a virtual desktop was not new to me. I went into the game completely blind, aside from the general idea that the 4th wall would be broken (based on the fact that there was even a virtual desktop and DDLC+ is very similar in that regard). But I can confidently say that I didn’t have any idea of just how amazed I still was by the 4th wall breaks. I did play through the game both times (through the solace ending). I think the part that got me was that as you were playing through the game (full screen, obviously) you start to forget that you are playing the game in a virtual desktop, and not just the game itself. I got totally immersed in the story and the game itself, that when the World machine talked to me, it came as a total surprise. And it happened each and every time. I think the only complaint I can think of is how if you’re in full screen and you enter somewhere that requires the desktop, the game exits out of full screen. Which is a bit immersion breaking, to say the least. Like, I think if I was in [SPOILERS] the entrance to the tower and saw that giant X, I think I would know what to do. I think it would have even been a moment where it’s like “what do I do here again? OH YEAH! I’m in a virtual desktop! I know what to do here!” I’m disappointed that I played the whole game in just 2 sittings. When I got Niko to sleep, I just reopened the game because I wanted to see what happened next. After everything is said and done, I’m giving the game itself and the console port an incredible 9/10
I was originally recommended to play OneShot by an internet friend of mine, and I’m just going for the PC release and not the Switch (because I do not have it on Switch) [[SPOILERS FOR ONESHOT]] OneShot was an amazing game that had me enjoy its plot and its clever puzzles. The way you feel so immersed in the game with its puzzles really made me feel something that I hadn’t felt when playing a game at all. The way the Entity calling me by name on my PC really got to me. I wanted to be able to protect Niko when I couldn’t talk to them, and that’s when I knew that to communicate with me in the Tower, they would have needed the lightbulb. I thought I would be able to talk to Niko, I’ve been able to talk to Niko before in the Glen when I gave the sun to Maize, but this really got to my nerves. I honestly wanted to reach out through my monitor and drag Niko into my embrace to tell them that I’m still guiding them and everything will be ok. Even when playing through Solstice, I was reminded of the squares, but seeing the very world I had grown accustomed to being destroyed right before my very eyes was a shock to me. I really enjoyed playing through and getting all the achievements (I play on Steam). The really amazing 4th wall breaks this game has made me enjoy it. Hell, I didn’t even realize what makes the game so special my first time around. But after returning the sun (and accidentally deleting my save file) and replaying the game again (and correctly doing Solstice) the true end felt correct. Like it was truly how it had to happen. Will I get OneShot for switch? Probably, yes. But this game with its 4th wall breaks is one of the best Steam games I’ve ever played.
I had already experienced OneShot with someone else on PC previously, but I got this as my first hands on experience with OneShot. And while the way the game works isn't nearly as surprising with both context of knowing how the PC version did, and the fact that as a console game it won't send you digging through a lot , they do a damn good job at making it all feel how it was meant to, because it uses everything it has (including the limitations) to give you the full OneShot experience, even though it knows that it can't surprise you the same way as the PC version
I first played Oneshot when it first came out on the switch and I was still Really immersed in the game I don’t think it “lost” it’s charm in my opinion!
MAYJOR SPOLIERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVENT GOTTEN THE TRUE ENDING OF ONESHOT DO NOT READ AHEAD i have gotten the solstice ending and honestly i miss Niko. The fact that i cant see her again and the fact that the game makes it apparent by doing small things like adding a vcr effect to Fake Niko that shows that it isnt the real Niko but just a recording of her memories makes me sad i miss Niko and i want to be able to see the real Niko again so Oneshot: Aftermath makes me happy that i will be able to see an old friend again
I already knew the 4th wall moments ahead of time and just wanted to play the game for myself on a platform I actually enjoy, so this didn't really apply to me.
My PC recently broke but I still really want to play Oneshot and I have a switch I really hope it doesn't take away from the experience (I'm also planning to get this game on Christmas)
I won't say that TWM is bad, but pc is 100% more immersive. However because of TWM OneShot might get more popularity and I still like the workarounds so I can't complain
I'd say WME is even more magical than the Steam version because it kinda just subtly bring even more unanswered questions to the story. Also it technically gives a more "complete" ending to the story. Whether that should be trusted by its surface look or should be taken with a grain of salt though, is up to everyone's interpretation. (Also it's even more official than the level of officiality we already got that what's under Niko's hat is what anyone would imagine.)
I admit, for a long while I had a little grudge on this game thanks to the "World Machine" version. I played through it on PC and enjoyed it, but knew there were multiple endings so figured it'd be a cool idea to wait a little while and then play through it again so the story beats will tug at the right heartstrings again. But then I heard of the Switch version and how it had more features than the PC one. As someone who doesn't own a Switch - I kinda felt almost betrayed by this. Didn't help that not long before I found out, another game I literally just bought on PC had an updated and more feature-filled version on console. So yeah, wasn't feeling great about any of this. That was a couple of years ago and I just forgot about OneShot. Then I stumbled on this video and thought "Sure why not" so I watched...and while I still feel like the PC version could've gotten some of these features, I do feel a little better and I do want to continue playing through the different endings. Also +1 sub. Was a good vid and pushed me to play through again.
There is a charm that the pc version has that the console version doesn't. Honestly, even with the additives of new content in the console version, the pc version will always be the best version. (In my opinion of course.)
If there's any direct positive i can give to OneShot players new and old World Machine seems to be an altered STEAM release version So, at least you won't get THAT ONE AWFUL EVENT without really trying to get it
@@RowanSkie It has something to do with one of the achievements, or failing to get it. (CC to OP) I actually would hope that mechanic was added back giving that it's possible in current gen consoles to go into sleep mode, which might not be as doable on a PC.
sadly it's exactly what I expected from world machine edition it's got the same issues to me that ddlc+ did, the desktop being simulated just...makes a lot of the forth wall breaks blander and less hard hitting then in the original 2 games It's great for someone that has no access to a PC, but if someone has a pc (and seriously ANY pc, both versons work on WINDOWS VISTA with zero issues, and even ran on xp) I'd def reccomend just playing it on pc, it's a overall better experience sadly Extemely meta games that mostly work within Desktop spesific mechanics just....do not work in a concole enviorment and I've yet to see a game of that nature not fail at trying to port itself to consoles unfortunutely
Tbh... I have a windows7 pc, just out of curiosity I tried to play the steam version, and it was a funny experience because I couldn't advance anything because the textures were corruptedAnyway, I played it on another PC, it was fun, but I wouldn't mind playing the console version. (Anyways, the game was corrupted on the first PC because this PC is simply not good for gaming)
I got this on a sale on switch so I had to finally try although I wish I would have just gotten it on pc because watching another lper playing this game I was blown away by some of the things they did with this game especially the ending. It reminded of flowey forcing the game to close in Undertale which blew my mind because I thought the game crashed. This game is similar to Undertale in alot of ways and dont know how I didn't hear about this game until 2022.
Part of me really wants to get The World Machine edition, as One Shot changed how I view storytelling. The other part of me wants to never touch the game again as that's kinda the point of the Solstice ending.
So it's a personal adventure kinda thing, where your personal attachment to your computer also impacts your attachment of the game? Never played the game but I have played DDLC, which basically does the same thing with the PC to console port.
I first heard about OneShot when it was announced that it was coming to the Switch, but I played the regular PC version for my first experience since I had heard that it would be better on PC. I do agree that for the best first experience with OneShot possible, you should get it on PC- it's just so much more immersive and surprising and wonderful. But, once the console version came out, I did buy it to replay the game and check out the bits of extra content, and I very much enjoyed it (and also plan to 100% it), but nothing can really beat the PC experience. anyway, tl;dr is play the PC version for your first experience, and then if you feel like it play the console version for the bits of extra content.
Oneshot WME isn't the worse version. It just won't bring the same kind of immersion and that's it. (It would bring some different kind of immersion though.)
I disagree with the whole "the adaptation is not entirely like the pc version". Dunno, it fits pretty well for me. Both the pc gymics and simulations of an pc.
the thing is OneShot just couldn't work on any platform other than the PC. because while WME is game inside the game, the original version is the game inside your PC (if u get wat am talkin 'bout)
I like your Oneshot videos, Your explanation and comments on the game is interesting.could I reprint them to bilibili to show it to more people?I will mark youtuber in video introduction (My English is very terrible, so some sentences need to use translater, please understand:)
Now here is the question I would like people’s opinions on: which re-release is better? Oneshot: World Machine Edition? Or Doki-Doki Literature Club+? Both have some magic lost with the fourth wall breaks as opposed to their original releases, but for someone who has played both (I only finished the latter, didn’t like Oneshot all that much), I would like to hear others opinions if they have also played both.
I mean, yeah, it's gonna be a worse experience since like Undertale and DDLC, it too fucks with your pc, without that, it's gotta find a way to do it's thing, and that takes sacrifices
Am i wrong for playing this on console for the first time and still getting extra melancholic and sad? The only thing i absolutely despised was how the borders couldnt be removed, they were very distracting and un-immersive Was it that hard to give the option to make them black?
How come every time I play a video game on a console, the PC version is better, and every time I play a video game on a PC, the console version is better?
This, along with DDLC+, shows why these type of file manipulating games simply dont work on consoles. You force this arbitrary, immersion breaking version of the file manipulation as seen in these games, in favor of something so...cold and digitized on a console, a false desktop. Now IDK if they're allowed to do this, but if not, that explains so much, but why cant they get creative and have you mess around on your console and its various menus in the home screen, outside of the game? It would obviously be simpler and cruder, but still...

Please someone tell me I'm not the only one that read "world washing machine" on the thumbnail 💀
Great review, I look forward to reexperiencing this masterpiece.
My favorite thing about this is that it isn’t reviewing it as it feels like a port or remake, but a game in itself trying to capture what one shot is
I first played Oneshot when it first came out on the switch and I was still Really immersed in the game I don’t think it “lost” it’s charm in my opinion!
MAYJOR SPOLIERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVENT GOTTEN THE TRUE ENDING OF ONESHOT DO NOT READ AHEAD
i have gotten the solstice ending and honestly i miss Niko.
My PC recently broke but I still really want to play Oneshot and I have a switch I really hope it doesn't take away from the experience
(I'm also planning to get this game on Christmas)
i want to play this game on every version possible
It's great that komoto and OneShot devs decided to port WME to PC and Steam Deck. It planned to came out on September 30
"never needed"
every rpg maker game needs it
I won't say that TWM is bad, but pc is 100% more immersive.
However because of TWM OneShot might get more popularity and I still like the workarounds so I can't complain
They pulled a DDLC and just put an fucking operating system in there
I'd say WME is even more magical than the Steam version because it kinda just subtly bring even more unanswered questions to the story.
Also it technically gives a more "complete" ending to the story. Whether that should be trusted by its surface look or should be taken with a grain of salt though, is up to everyone's interpretation.
(Also it's even more official than the level of officiality we already got that what's under Niko's hat is what anyone would imagine.)
[Is it out? I thought TWM Edition was releasing tomorrow.]
yep its out now, try it out
actually.. i dont know if its playable yet
It’s out
I just bought it ik it won't be as good but I just can't play it on pc I'm hoping I can still enjoy this masterpiece
You will :))
I feel like this is the best they could with consoles. I like their answer though.
Thank you. It’s been a while since my last oneshot video but more oneshot content is coming soon
I just got oneshot today and I played it for 8 HOURS (the world machine edition) and I love it I will probably get the computer version soon
At least it makes sense that they couldn't keep everything. And hey, the fact they ported this to consoles like THAT is nuts.
There is a charm that the pc version has that the console version doesn't. Honestly, even with the additives of new content in the console version, the pc version will always be the best version. (In my opinion of course.)
i love the friend gallery, oi wish i could get the images to put as wallpaper. especially the magpie, calamus alula and the ram girl backdrops
If there's any direct positive i can give to OneShot players new and old
World Machine seems to be an altered STEAM release version
So, at least you won't get THAT ONE AWFUL EVENT without really trying to get it
what event? I've played it back in 2017 (and can't get myself to play again within a Memory Run)... do you mean the clock?
@@RowanSkie It has something to do with one of the achievements, or failing to get it.
(CC to OP) I actually would hope that mechanic was added back giving that it's possible in current gen consoles to go into sleep mode, which might not be as doable on a PC.
sadly it's exactly what I expected from world machine edition
it's got the same issues to me that ddlc+ did, the desktop being simulated just...makes a lot of the forth wall breaks blander and less hard hitting then in the original 2 games
It's great for someone that has no access to a PC, but if someone has a pc (and seriously ANY pc, both versons work on WINDOWS VISTA with zero issues, and even ran on xp) I'd def reccomend just playing it on pc, it's a overall better experience
sadly Extemely meta games that mostly work within Desktop spesific mechanics just....do not work in a concole enviorment
and I've yet to see a game of that nature not fail at trying to port itself to consoles unfortunutely
Tbh... I have a windows7 pc, just out of curiosity I tried to play the steam version, and it was a funny experience because I couldn't advance anything because the textures were corruptedAnyway, I played it on another PC, it was fun, but I wouldn't mind playing the console version. (Anyways, the game was corrupted on the first PC because this PC is simply not good for gaming)
i’ve only played the switch version but i guess pc’s next in line
I got this on a sale on switch so I had to finally try although I wish I would have just gotten it on pc because watching another lper playing this game I was blown away by some of the things they did with this game especially the ending. It reminded of flowey forcing the game to close in Undertale which blew my mind because I thought the game crashed.
This game is similar to Undertale in alot of ways and dont know how I didn't hear about this game until 2022.
Amazing video bro, subbed
I’m probably going to get World Machine Edition due to it being likely that OneShot on Steam might trigger my sometimes trigger happy anti-virus.
4:20 Hey! I have the same wallpaper on my PC that u have, good taste bro :)
I just wait a year to play it again
"answers aren't given in abundance here"
*shows subscriber graph*
Well... i dont have pc so switch will have to do
STAWP MAKIN NIKO SAD IN THE TITLE IMAGESBSVDNS AHHHHGGHHHH
Lmao
one must imagine niko sad
Part of me really wants to get The World Machine edition, as One Shot changed how I view storytelling. The other part of me wants to never touch the game again as that's kinda the point of the Solstice ending.
Lore of OneShot lost something on Consoles (World Machine Edition) momentum 100
my only gripe with world machine edition is. gosh, i wish the desktop was slightly nicer
like, just... gradient windows and a 1px shadow!
So it's a personal adventure kinda thing, where your personal attachment to your computer also impacts your attachment of the game?
Never played the game but I have played DDLC, which basically does the same thing with the PC to console port.
You really should play pc if you have ANY like a literal toaster/potato could propably run the game so its 100% worth it
OMORI: 72 Hours On record.
Brother, I hope you are okay, playing both one shot and omori. (I have also completed both lel)
As someone who thought oneshot was only available on pc, i thought the console version of the game was just your editing style.
What if people don't own a pc? I know quite a few.
I would love to play this version of the game but i sadly don't own a switch :,]
It's on PS and Xbox too
I actually bought a Switch specifically for this. (Though after finishing it I'm now mainly on Xenoblade Chronicals 3)
the thing is OneShot just couldn't work on any platform other than the PC.
because while WME is game inside the game, the original version is the game inside your PC
(if u get wat am talkin 'bout)
One simply does not replay OneShot
I like your Oneshot videos, Your explanation and comments on the game is interesting.could I reprint them to bilibili to show it to more people?I will mark youtuber in video introduction (My English is very terrible, so some sentences need to use translater, please understand:)
Sure as long as you give credit
@@bossdoor thanks bro
Thank you
I mainly bought this version because it costs more and its giving more money to the devs
5:54 You should check out fading memory too if you haven't already!
I mean, yeah, it's gonna be a worse experience since like Undertale and DDLC, it too fucks with your pc, without that, it's gotta find a way to do it's thing, and that takes sacrifices
wait theres a map in the console version what the hell why did i buy the pc version
In my opinion, the WME version is a better GAME, while the PC version is the better OneShot experience.
Pancakes!!! :O
the world machine edition keeps on lagging my laptop, will the original pc version not lag too much?
Good stuff
Regular Boss Door W
Am i wrong for playing this on console for the first time and still getting extra melancholic and sad? The only thing i absolutely despised was how the borders couldnt be removed, they were very distracting and un-immersive
Was it that hard to give the option to make them black?
Does anyone know how to get the wallpapers from the console version? They look amazing.
8 hours on one shot, thats amazing, BUT DAM HOW DID YOU SPEND 72 HOURS ON OMORI.
Oh was that in the background or something? Haha
@@bossdoor 5:03
yup hahaha x)
@@bossdoor how does that even happen lol
Don't scare me with that title tho, jesus.
How do you even open the menu on that version
I tried my best but it just wont open
agree
How come every time I play a video game on a console, the PC version is better, and every time I play a video game on a PC, the console version is better?
me when the game designed for desktops is worse on console 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It’s on console so that’s what I reviewed it for. If that upsets you that wouldn’t be consistent with intelligence.
@@bossdoor toxic
This, along with DDLC+, shows why these type of file manipulating games simply dont work on consoles. You force this arbitrary, immersion breaking version of the file manipulation as seen in these games, in favor of something so...cold and digitized on a console, a false desktop. Now IDK if they're allowed to do this, but if not, that explains so much, but why cant they get creative and have you mess around on your console and its various menus in the home screen, outside of the game? It would obviously be simpler and cruder, but still...
I thought the exact same thing, but I imagine it’d be a coding nightmare and Nintendo would be hugely against it (same with Sony and Microsoft)
@@bossdoor Mhm! Exactly! I think we hit the nail on the head there.
This maybe could be done with the Steam Deck, but it's moreso a portable PC so
