I hate how telltale fell apart after the success of the walking dead. Had they stayed a small company having mild success I think they could have made classic games for years to come.

Nice video! Small piece of Poker Night trivia: Had there ever been a Poker Night 3, I know that Mike Stemmle the writer of Poker Night 2 wanted the theme to be Ladies Night with all women characters at the table. I don’t think a 3 was ever seriously discussed though, and shortly after 2 shipped, none of the writers of either game were still at the studio. Another one: the “murder” dialog was in fact meant to be the “end” of the game. I can’t remember how you’d earn it. Maybe by busting everyone out when you have all the items and are the highest rank? I honestly can’t recall. The idea was that a sequel could be a different type of game entirely - maybe a Clue style murder mystery, or a collection of different games you play with an overarching story running through it. There was not a concrete plan, but it seemed fun to end what is ostensibly just a poker game with a dramatic cliffhanger. Instead cooler heads prevailed and that content was never finished or included, and the sequel was the more expected Poker Night 2.

the poker night series hold a special place in my heart (mostly cause i had a bad pc at the time and heavy and glados were in the game) as i was in middle school at the time, i've sink so many hours in both games even after i got the tf2 items. cause the interaction was honestly my favorite part in general, 6 years later i remembered the games and wanted to play it again out of nostalgia. and i still love the games and have grown to love the ost more then before. thank you for the video! it was interesting to listen to!
I hold a LOT of nostalgia for poker night (though more so the sequel then the original). I really do think it's a shame that we only ever got the two, though I can understand it. Still, I could take as many character packs of new tables as they'd be willing to sell me, even for characters I don't otherwise really care about. I don't think I ever would have gotten all that interested in Sam and Max or Venture Brothers without poker night, for sure.
I still adore this game and its sequel. It's my go to game for video poker that's only sweetened by the character interaction. I can only dream of reliving seeing this game come out back in 2010, seeing Strong Bad interacting with Max and Heavy and that "bleeped up bleep" line flooring me the first time I heard it. A shame a new Poker Night will never happen, but I at least have these two games to cherish like the Telltale fan I've been for the last 15 years.
Wonderful video! It's such a bummer that Poker Night isn't available on Steam anymore. I've been wanting this game for what feels like ages and I seriously think putting it back on Steam would be a great idea. Great game that Telltale made and great video you've made.
Wow, I didn't know Winslow was from Monkey Island. I had just assumed he was an original character made up for the Poker Night at the Inventory game. This video was very imformative, filling in gaps in my knowledge that were just there for years that, despite my sinking hours into playing this game, never occurred to me to inquire about. I also learned from this game not just how to play Texas Holdem but also how to play Omaha Holdem which I very much prefer over Texas since you get to see higher hands more often.
I attended a Poker Night panel as PAX East 2011. Jory Prum took several questions from the audience. I personally asked him about some of Strong Bad's dialogue, and i remember a few of us being shocked to learn that TTG had almost no input on his dialogue. Jory personally was unfamiliar with the character, so TTG let the Brothers Chaps pretty much write all of his lines for the game. (I had personally asked why Strong Bad never once made a reference to "checking his email", but with out a Chapman in the room, we'll never know.) It was a great panel, and i wish we'd been allowed to record it for posterity's sake.
I initially bought Poker Night and its sequel years ago specifically for the TF2 items, but as I was playing through them, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the banter between the characters. They definitely make a fun and unique experience where you will learn about various franchises while also learning more about some characters you enjoy. Although I rarely think about launching Poker Night or the sequel nowadays, I still recommend playing it if you have a chance to.

This is a wonderfully put-together video, both informative and entertaining in the best tradition of UA-cam content, but I have to say the part that really got to me was when the island music cover of "Redial" from the Bomberman Hero soundtrack started playing. You know, if I hadn't played this game, I'd probably never have even heard of Sam & Max, or Homestar Runner. I was a TF2 fan, and didn't even play for the items, I played it just because Heavy was in it, and I wanted to see more of him. I found myself really intrigued by Max and Strong Bad's dialogues, and did some poking around to see what their series had to offer. That was around mid-2014, if my Tumblr is anything to go by. Almost nine years later, and I can't really imagine my life without either of those two franchises being in it. I still adore TF2 to this day, and I owe Heavy a lot for introducing me to Max and Strong Bad. I never really caught on with Penny Arcade, but I adore the Homestar Runner and Sam & Max IPs so damn much, and Poker Night means a surprising amount to me because of it. This documentary was absolutely fascinating. Thank you so much for giving me some insight into a game I still play pretty frequently, just because it's an A+ time waster.

This video is amazing man, so well written, great use of editing, and the segues between the characters was incredible! I hope that you'll make a video about the sequel too
I have over 50 hours put into both Poker Nights on Steam alone (no idea how much I put into PN2 on the Xbox 360 and iOS)
I really appreciate you making this documentary, these weird little poker games meant so much to me back in the day, the music alone makes me feel so Nostalgic.
your sound mixing is actually amazing. I had to pause at one point because I thought music was playing in my room or something
This is incredible, and everything I've ever wanted to know about this game. I love your script writing and your voice, as well. I'd love to hear about Poker Night 2!
This is great! I loved learning about the details of the branding deals of these characters. I hope to see a sequel video about the second game.
Meeeeep, awesome overview of Poker Night at the Inventory! I enjoyed hearing about all the characters' histories, and the writing along with the clips used helped each section flow smoothly into the next. Also, the thumbnail looks noice! :)
Hours upon hours, and I couldn't've summed it up better. Bravo.
bruh this vid has been blowing up this past week i’m happy for you man! watched this a year ago and saw it in my feed today hope u get the growth you deserve!
thanks for the early support man! i'm kinda surprised there's an audience for it, thought it was more forgotten than it actually was.
Poker Night honestly needs a remake, it holds lots of charm despite being a little clunky. I see potential in a 3rd poker night game.
poker night at the inventory is perfect game for me that I never got the chance to experience
but this was still a very fun and informative video to watch, keep up the great work!
Such a great video! Can't wait to binge watch all of your other content now!
This is great, had no clue I could find a video like this on a game I thought many had forgotten about.
I love how they were supposedly all patted-down before entry, yet they all still pull out their guns (including heavy's entire fucking minigun) at tycho
this game is amazing and is really saddening that both games were de-listed from steam
This video is so good, I expected this to be a one off thing for the channel, but when I saw your other videos were of similar quality, you won my subscription.
What an incredible video! Thanks for sharing these great insights c:
thanks! it took wayyy too long to make but it was just so interesting lol, glad you enjoyed it too
God imagine another game where they got Charlie from Smiling Friends, since Zach originally dabbled in flash and flash is gone.
This is an amazing creation, I hope you’re proud of yourself for it
very kind words, thanks so much for stopping by and watching!
@@meikkon_ It’s difficult to find motivation to undertake big projects like this when there’s little incentive to, always pains me a bit to see such well made videos, and its creators, not garner the attention it deserves. So I, more than anything else, just hope you are happy with *yourself* for such an achievement, and I hope you stick with it. Just been watching a few of your other vids and I’m excited for more!
Already enjoy TomatoAnus, SummoningSalt, XBOXAhoy, Shounic, kliksphilip, recently saw a Little Big Planet retrospective by someone, and New Super Mario Bros by some Mariomikester, can never be too many UA-camrs in the genre of breaking down games or their histories, and I’m excited to see what more you’ll do, if you continue to find enjoyment out of it :)
@@meikkon_ (Definitely looking forward to Poker Night 2)
it's the life you have to accept as a creator, for that reason you have to be careful with what you dedicate yourself to i think. if you choose a really great topic and become really invested in the actual investigation, then engagement becomes a secondary objective, and you're just out here trying to find 'the answer', if you will.
i have to appreciate the (very) privileged position i'm in to even find time to make the videos in the first place, ultimately! thanks again for your time tourin' the channel 🙏
This is a wonderfully put-together video, both informative and entertaining in the best tradition of UA-cam content, but I have to say the part that really got to me was when the island music cover of "Redial" from the Bomberman Hero soundtrack started playing.
Thanks for sharing this. Your taste in background music is truly superb.
You know with how chaotic Max could play, his voice line "I didn't even look at my cards" whenever he wins, might be legit
suprised at how few likes this video has! I love this vid a lot . sooo well done and great research!
Heavy’s more sombre and serious side is explored a lot more in the TF2 comics, which gives us a look at Heavy’s home and family back in Russia
I really hope you make one about Poker Night 2. Very important game for me. Taught me poker and gave me a gambling addiction 👍
I remember when Poker Night 2 came out. The perfect sequel. I simply adored how all the characters played off each other. It saddens me so much that we may never see what a 3rd installment of this series would look like.
Your commentary is very concise and entertaining. Was shocked to see how small your channel and attention is.
Great video! A high quality documentary, hopefully you'll gain more traction on youtube. Also I hope you'll tackle Poker Night at the Inventory 2
would love a sequel to this for the second game
This video was awesome learning how this unique series came to be hope you do a vid on the sequel
i seriously thank you for this amazing documentary. generally amazing descriptions on characters, how the game works, etc. poker night is a wonderful game that other people should play
also, a HUGE shoutout for making subtitles, props to you
speaking of homestar runner i would HUGELY appreciate it if you made a video on that, im a huge HSR fan and would love to see your takes
i love how they all start breaking down in 32:11 and heavy is just like :o
Love learning more about cool games I'm very fond of. Stellar work.
One of my first steam games and still one of my favorites! I love the way you did transitions between the characters, very excellent documentary!
This is one of the Best essay type videos ive seen this year
Edit: don't connect your steam account to random strangers for virtual item. That's a sketchy idea
the family sharing world is full of scams now sadly, given the keys have seriously dried up as of late. but it's the only other way to get a hold of the game legally - a very weird situation for a game to be in!
So glad I still have both these games downloaded. Started playing for the items and fell in love
PLEASE make a follow up on Poker Night 2. This video was amazing and really helped in understanding a game I hold close to my heart more
Thank you for making this! Very well done.
Just became your 818th sub, totally worth it every sec of this amazing video. I've been lookin for someone who could couver this good and you aced it!
That Boris Guy looks more like a Leonard Steakcharmer than a Boris Krinkle.
Algorithm really just gonna hide this video from the public huh?
Not I good sir, NOT I.
Amazing video man! I learned texas hold em from the first poker night, they’re two games I can always come back to. Would love to see a vid on the second one!
I love this game and the conversations in it! I knew Heavy but none of the others when I first saw it.
I got this in my recommendations -and that tails pfp caught my attention even more- lol good vid
he's pretty cool, isn't he?
@@meikkon_ absolutely
You had such a good transition when you were talking about the characters
Surprisingly I didn't just get the pokernight games for the tf2 items many years ago, I just really liked the characters you got to play with
Poker night at the inventory was my introduction to Telltale games. I was a hugeee fan of penny arcade, so this game also introduced me to other series like TF2 and sam and max.
Very cool documentation! Thank you very much for your hard work!
Excellent video, really appreciated the work you dedicated to this cool, although niche, poker game!
