I am in a unique situation where the iPad is absolutely invaluable to me but not for the typical “pro” scenarios. I’m not an artist, I don’t do videos, but I am a pastor and counselor. I use the iPad Pro for taking notes in all of my counseling sessions as well as all my other work notes. Typing notes distracts the people I work with, and I don’t care what anyone says, the writing experience is DRASTICALLY better on the pro iPads in terms of smooth feel etc… Then having the ability to throw it on the Magic Keyboard and leave my laptop behind to only bring 1 larger device is perfect. I think the m4 is worth every penny. I upgraded from the 2020 pro.
Favorite iPad I’ve ever had. Upgraded from a 2019 13in iPad Pro to an 11in WiFi+Cellular version. I agree with all of your comments. I haven’t don’t the full day test but the battery is my concern too. Great video.
I have a MacBook Pro M1 for music production. I am not looking for a tablet to replace it, except when away from home. My new M4 iPad Pro is replacing a low-end Android. For what I do now with a tablet, I don’t need the extra power, but I’m very glad for all the nice little features. Overall, I’m glad I spent the extra money so I can take advantage of whatever comes next.
Marcus - sir. Love this channel. Finally, a hobbyist UA-cam channel based on legit real experience (in this case 20k miles) vs. "day in the life" channels out there. What I really appreciate is the work and industry you are in. Found you on LI and following. Thrilled to see a tech exec like you on this channel. Love the EDC's - you inspired me to start wearing my Rolex GMT-II 16710 from 2003 - which hasn't been worn for almost a decade. Analog and digital really can coexist. Although I am in tech consulting, I'm sure it would be great to be part of your executive leadership team and geek out during our 1:1s.
Enjoyed the video Marcus. Your point about the iPad is for the “in between times“ resonated with me. I’ve tried a couple of times to make it a laptop replacement and failed. I even purchased the new 13” but returned it in favor of the 11”. Thanks for reinforcing my decision.
I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m a big fan of your style. Keep up the great work! I’ve just bought the 11 inch M4 iPad Pro too and it’s definitely a big leap forward for the platform, particularly the keyboard. I‘ve used an iPad Pro as my primary work computer for 4 years now and the flexibility and portability is unmatched. Thanks for sharing your approach, I found it super useful.
Great video! I have the new Paperlike on my 11” M4 and it’s a pleasure to use with it. I upgraded from the original 9.7” iPad Pro, which was starting to feel a bit long in the tooth, and I’m so glad I did!
I think it comes down to what your needs are. I have mine plugged into my Studio Display, and haven’t touched my MBP in two weeks. I would love nothing more than to have this be my only device. For what I do it is possible, but if you do video or photo editing then I agree, you have to go with the MBP.
This was extremely helpful and informative, feels like a review from a real person instead of a tech wiz. I’m a college student and contemplating hiring the bullet on one of these and I think you gave me the feedback I needed to make my decision. Thank you
Expected to hear actual experience instead of bunch of ADs. M1/M2 ipads pro were launched long time ago and have almost the same limitations for productivity as M4
One way that I've combated the poor battery life is by having fewer widgets on the home screen. Just putting the app icons has helped the battery life tremendously! Cheers! Thanks for the awesome video!
As much as I want to like the new version, the $$ barrier is real. When you add in the pencil and the Magic Keyboard - ugh. Guess I will stay with my 2020 iPad pro
It’s expensive for sure and give it a year and you’ll be able to pick up a refurbished one for cheap. I am excited about what the M4 chip means come this November. It’s Apple AI chip so will get lots of enhancements this year.
Enjoyed the Video! I am waffling between the 11” and 13. I had the 12.9 and returned because it was too heavy in tablet mode but I missed the real estate when docked in the keyboard. I Love the mini for content but can’t really do multi tasking with it. I liked the 11 but still miss the RE when multi… did you think about the 13? Think it might work in tablet mode more?mi love my Mac Air M2….
If you have a MacBook of any kind I’d recommend the 11”. I have a MacBook Pro 14” and I barely use it now as the 11” iPad gets me through most things and I love it so far. If the iPad is your only device I think that then maybe go for the 13”.
If you have a MacBook of any kind I’d recommend the 11”. I have a MacBook Pro 14” and I barely use it now as the 11” iPad gets me through most things and I love it so far. If the iPad is your only device I think that then maybe go for the 13”.
Great video! I was on team iPad from the original and during the past 14 years, I’ve been off team iPad at least twice because of limitations and frustrations. Decided to give it another try with the M4 11 w/MKB&Pencil Pro and I agree with you. Totally in love with this set up. Apple has made enough upgrades to iPadOS to make it very useful for my case. Like you said, great for tight spaces like economy flying or the drivers seat of a vehicle. Cheers.
I am the proud owner of a base model 11" M4 iPad Pro and I couldn't agree more, it's a fantastic device with plenty of power, but it's just WAAAAY overpriced for what it does (especially if you compare it to Macs, which we all tend to do given the M4 chip's power). I don't own a keyboard for it, and don't plan on spending more money on that for 2 reasons: - if I need to type long texts or do heavy tasks, I have a MBP M4 Pro which is much more appropriate for the situation. - I think the keyboard would push me to try and use it not as a tablet, but as a second computer which I have no need for. I'm still able to get work done on my iPad on work trips, but I try to always keep in mind that it's primarily a touch screen device, not a computer! So basically I'm making it work because I adapted my workflow accordingly (which is what everybody should do when they get an iPad instead of thinking it will fully replace a laptop).
Great video Marcus - seems that Apple have nailed all the previous gripes such as camera and keyboard - I’ve upgraded from a 12.9 M1. Everything on the M4 including the keyboard and pencil is now really smooth and slick - but at a high price. Glad you highlighted the benefits of 5G cellular, really does make a difference when on the go and something that macs lack, and other reviewers overlook. The battery on the 13-inch M4 seems OK. But Excel on IOS is sadly lacking. The nano-texture display for me is one of the best features - love being able to work outside without the glare. But the cost is not $100 as too many reviewers suggest - having to go for 1TB storage makes this an expensive option. Look forward to the next update…
I'm not sure why nobody talks about the questionable battery life. I've just returned my new M4 iPad Pro because one of the trade-offs with having a device thinner than previous ones is that the battery does not last close to 10 hours. it astound me that everybody seems to overlook this issue and I don't think it's acceptable that it's significantly inferior to a MacBook in this regard.... considering the cost of these devices.
I love watching videos like this because I get perspective's I couldn't possibly think of myself. Funny enough, I have almost the same stand as yours (I have the Roost v2) and I use that for my 16" M3 Max and I was like huh.. Maybe I should see how the iPad Pro 12.9 looks on the stand! PERFECT lol I'll be ordering another one soon and also picking up an M4 iPad Pro next weekend! Thanks for the video my friend!
Another good video. Appreciate the relatability of your content and this one for sure. I’m super on the fence. Have the mini (love it) and old iPad Pro. Interested in the thunderbolt and new keyboard. Just can bring myself to do it.
Great video, I bought one and has been using it on my travels, also left my MacBook at home. It did work well except a few issues I ran into is file saving and file sharing attachments from mail to files or Dropbox and opening certain attachments in mail was some of my issues.
You're trying way hard to make a tablet what it's not. Tablets were made to couch surf/game/social media and watch movies. You said it in the beginning that it won't replace a laptop, but the rest of the video is you trying vouch for it as a "travel" laptop. Laptops are already travel friendly...
False. For someone who needs to travel for work regularly, a 14 inch MBP is simply unusable in a standard airline seat. If you need to work on the go and your job allows it, the iPad Pro is an an accelerator.
My 11” iPad Pro replaced my macbook back in 2018, and I haven’t looked back. It really depends on the person. For me, the iPad Pro does everything better than my macbook used to do, plus more. I also enjoy consuming media on it more. Surfing the web & writing emails. I don’t even use a smart keyboard, I use the onscreen keyboard. I have totally adopted the iPad iOS only work flow. Lastly, I’m an artist, and the iPad Pro is the perfect digital sketchbook. The macbook can’t even compete. I used to edit all my photos & videos on a macbook, but the iPad Pro does all that much better than a macbook IMHO. For all these reasons, I will never get another laptop again. I know it’s not for everyone, but for me, iPads rule. 👊🏼 💥
Great video, however can you please provide a link for the iPad stand, you mentioned at roughly the 6 minute mark? I can’t find it anywhere. I am in the US so that might be the problem, but am still interested in getting one.
Hi Marcus, thanks for great video! I wonder about ur thoughts on write notes on paper or digital note taking apps? which one ur prefer to? I hope u can explain more on ur next video. Thanks a lot, hello from Indonesia
Yes, absolutely. It’s mainly just faster than any other iPad I’ve ever had. It’s also thinner and lighter so easier to lug around. The screen feels fantastic and the camera move is important for me as I spend at least 5 hours a day on calls. All hardware changes.
Thanks for the great video. I actually considered the same usage scenario as you did. I am retiring my old Macbook Pro and iPad Mini 6, just stick to one iPad Pro 11 when I am traveling anywhere. The mobility and decent productivity are unbeatable comparing to any other solutions in the market :))
Oh boy....😳but i m puzzled for iPhone 16pro vs Ipads , waiting for Sep event. Also are ipads a power machine for AI computing as ipados coming up this fall. Personally i just can't resist ipad pro 's m4 , they r drop dead gorgeous with strikingly superior displays...🧡
Anyone else find the curser pointer on the iPad to be very and I mean very finicky and buggy? It doesn’t always register a click. This alone is enough for me that the iPad could not be a main device for me.
Hi Marcus, thanks for the video! I was wondering if you can let us know the power bank that appears in the section of the video when you are in the plane? All the best
How's it going Marcus? iPad Pro M4 2TB + Cellular for me. Why the overkill? Never uses Apple devices before and am planning for retirement in about 5 years. I've a reasonably good camera kit that I am hopelessly incompetent at using but hope to be average by the time I quit. I then intend spending as much time as I can getting to be a good one. All this means that I want a device as future proof as possible. I reckon I can get 6-10 years out of this set-up, and this is an absolute powerhouse for editing, storage transfer rates. It also is all the tablet I will ever need. I see this device as a hobby work horse but also expect to see some pretty stonking games come in with the way it can handle graphics.
I wouldn't say you are talking mostly about m4 iPad Pro, you are talking about iPad with m series in general, actually that's my problem, m4 iPad Pro especially at 11 inch size is just 20 gram lighter than the older version, so how can it be that different, while the silicon are the same, it cannot be all about the tendon OLED...
@@MarcusCreates thanks Marcus. And this Video has changed my mind - I was going to get the 13 in model - Now Im looking at the 11 inch. Thanks for providing a great prospective
There’s nothing in that this iPad does that first generation M1 iPad can’t do. Before everybody decides to run out by a brand new iPad buy a used one save yourself a bunch of money.
It depends on what you’re trying to do guys, for instance I want to design home, animate, record music, and much more. The iPad is the ONLY option for someone like me. It depends on your skill set
Would love to see your workflow between computer and iPad on the road and in office 😃 Great video, Marcus! Your thoughts on Air v Pro for iPad same size? Could you complete your workflow in same capacity?
Awesome video! I was just debating whether I should leave my laptop behind in favor of my iPad Pro when I’m about to leave on my trip around to many countries overseas and this definitely helped me decide that I’m most likely going to leave my laptop behind in favor of saving some weight and strain on my backpack 😂
for me its the possibility to have the pen! Handwritten notes are soooo much better for my personal creativity - I take myself more accountable writing to do list via HAND - I cannot explain it… I love my macbook air M2 yes - but writing a to do list or a journal - will not stuck to me as much as I write it with the apple pencil - the ipad changed my life and I love it :) I lost already 5kg by keeping myself each night accountable to have a handwritten plan for the next day - which i also tried with the macbook…. also when I close my work PC at the end of the day, it doesn’t feel like switching to another computer to organize my life… sounds weird, but maybe I should make a video ones - to explain it a bit better
@@MarcusCreates Limerick will be great for them so, not to busy and everyone is sound, drag them out to Killaloe and spend some time on the lake, weather permitting!
What Bellroy bag were you carrying when you showed that you brought your laptop along for this just in case? Also really enjoying your content and aesthetic of your office setup and the great quality of your videos! Keep em coming!
@@Involvement82 I'll give you my personal experience: transferring files and folders is cumbersome, this is coming from a Windows user, Windows to Android you can just drag and drop your files or folders into your device. Can't install 3rd party app (I thought I can live without it, boy I was wrong lol). Multitask/Multi windows app sucked compare to Android. Apple's keyboard app also sucked, suggestion words feature is inconsistent, sometimes it appears, sometime not. Apple Pencil is not included in the purchase, unlike Galaxy Tab, Apple Pencil features are inferior compare to Samsung Spen, considering Apple Pencils aren't cheap. Also, Apple Pencil required battery to use, it can be annoying sometimes. Those are off the top of my head.
Great video but I think the battery life comment is a bit off. The use case you are describing seems very fair for the battery life you’re getting. Not a criticism just something that from my experience is one of the best battery experiences I’ve had yet.
Did you ever think in your ADULT LIFE you’d be gushing over tech by sharing Experiences with the world? I admit I am smitten by this product. I was cautious upgrading from IPAD PRO 2018 model. Yes, terribly expensive including pro pencil and New Magic Keyboard was hard pill to swallow. I do use my IPad 80% of my day and have never had a hiccup, or down time. waiting for Final version of IPAD OS 18 to be released. I don’t see anything crazy useful but who knows.
I just can't stand the limitations of iOS at this size and performance level. Every app is a neutered version of what's available on web, but most of the time you can't even force the web pages to load in desktop mode. Google sheets is probably the best example of how frustrating iOS can be on an iPad
I get it. And I agree if you’re comparing it to a laptop or desktop setup. But they’re finally ‘good enough’ to see you through a demanding trip where you need to do lots of different things.
@@MarcusCreates I went to a customer site (energy provider) to present on AI in Utilities. Well, of course, connecting to their presentation infrastructure was a mess and never worked (may have been my corporate windows laptop). Took out my M2 12.9 with Cellular, got on Teams, plugged in via HDMI adaptor to their infrastructure and we were on. I see iPad Pro as a companion to my windows laptop. I'm fortunate that my company is full on Enterprise 365 and can access all resources on my IPP. I will admit I do more editing (not videos) of presentations, spreadsheets, and reviewing proposals than "creating". And maybe in my role, I'm more editor/approval of work products so I'm fortunate I don't need machine capable of a full workload.
Websites load in desktop mode all the time for me, and if the don’t there’s an option in Safari for it. I run an entire business with an iPad Pro and completely disagree that apps are neutered or that iPad OS is limiting.
M1-3 is not much different to the M4 - we do not need more power or a newer screen. The IOS experience and so-called Pro Apps/interface is dreadful. I saw no point in moving from my 2018 iPad until I borrowed a Samsung Tab ultra 9 - night and day better - the software, Pro-Dex and useability is significantly better, and as a Apple chap, I never thought I'd say that.

Anyone else find the curser pointer on the iPad to be very and I mean very finicky and buggy? It doesn’t always register a click. This alone is enough for me that the iPad could not be a main device for me.
Great video man keep up the good work! May I ask for a link on that powerbank that you use to keep up the battery life?
Hi Marcus, thanks for the video!
I was wondering if you can let us know the power bank that appears in the section of the video when you are in the plane?
All the best
It’s not out yet. Will do a video when it has been released.
If you’re running beta iOS it’ll drain your battery faster. Great video! I use my M4 IPad for work as well, outside of editing videos. Love it.
Love this channel ❤
Great vid Marcus, I use my iPad 11 for similar use case , I also travel from Limerick, can’t beat Shannon airport
What is your watch ?
Rolex Sub
Great review. I’m thinking about it - but holding out for the new Mini Pro
@marcusobrien What is that charger you showed in the cons section? I need one of those if it can also power up my mbp
It’s actually not out yet. It’s from Shargeek. Shhh 🤫

Are you using the Pro Display XDR now?
No. I’m still on the Studio Display. It’s good enough for a part timer like me.
Where you at? Hope all is well.

Can you do a vid on that Bellroy bag? Looks sweet
Hi Marcus - Can you please tell me about the watch that you are wearing? The make and model. I love it!
It’s a Rolex Submariner with date. Not great on models but I bought it right when it came out in 2010.

What bellroy bag / tote are you using in the video?
It depends on what you’re trying to do guys, for instance I want to design home, animate, record music, and much more. The iPad is the ONLY option for someone like me. It depends on your skill set
Would love to see your workflow between computer and iPad on the road and in office 😃
Great video, Marcus!
Your thoughts on Air v Pro for iPad same size? Could you complete your workflow in same capacity?
GPS navigation on this iPad is so much better than any iPhone or CarPlay!
I haven’t tested the GPS yet but glad to hear its good
Great video! What watch are you wearing?
I’m wearing a 2010 Rolex Submariner. I’ve had it for 14 years and I love it.
@@MarcusCreates That’s a beautiful timepiece. Looks great on your wrist.
You create content on the ipad. Wouldn’t the 13 offer a better value proposition?
Curious question: What's that band around you arm?
It’s a Whoop
Yep. Whoop 4.0 fitness tracker. Thanks Jason.
The m3 air is the go to for me it does it all iPads cool just falls a little short especially for the price
Glad I could help! I brought my laptop as a test, but honestly didn’t need it.
for me its the possibility to have the pen!
Fantastic video Marcus, you coming to Limerick for the rugby or Donkey Fordes??
A bit of both John 😂. Trying to teach my American girls what’s it’s really like to be Irish.
@@MarcusCreates Limerick will be great for them so, not to busy and everyone is sound, drag them out to Killaloe and spend some time on the lake, weather permitting!
@@Curtin.J not a bad idea
Hi marcus, you think the arm bad is a better fitness tracker than a ring. Great vid btw, realistic 👌
I do.
What power banks do you use?
What Bellroy bag were you carrying when you showed that you brought your laptop along for this just in case?
Also really enjoying your content and aesthetic of your office setup and the great quality of your videos! Keep em coming!
Looks like a Tokyo messenger or laptop bag.
Great video. Funny thing, when in full screen the light on the right side really looks like a home bar on the screen😅
Great and informative video, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
@@MarcusCreatesit is also you mentioning Ireland is nice, I spend a few years all over but mostly in Dundalk and Galway city.
thinking about the 13 inch 512GB wifi+ cellular but it is freaking expensive at 2100 euro after tax here in finland, holy moly😅
Don’t do it. ☺️
@@MarcusCreates i am still confuse if i will go 11 inch or 13 inch, i came from 12.9 ipad pro. any good advice?
Is the house in Limerick an investment or a retirement option? And is it close to Thomond? 😂😂
It’s so we can spend a bit more of our time at home with family. It’s a stones throw to Thomond.
honestly they are purposefully held backed... it literally has the same processer lol
I have M4 iPad pro, it sucks. This will be my last Apple device ever, lol.
lol why it suck?
Does google sheets still present limitations in the view on the 13 in iPad Pro? I like the 11 as a supplement to my main MacBook.
I suspect Google apps are purposefully bad on iPadOS. Google probably fears iPads becoming mainstream laptop replacements.
Websites load in desktop mode all the time for me, and if the don’t there’s an option in Safari for it.
I run an entire business with an iPad Pro and completely disagree that apps are neutered or that iPad OS is limiting.
I never knew people actually put screen protectors on iPads crazzzzy
Of course, accidental drops exist
Subscribed once i heard Ireland.. 😂
Ooo .... he has so clearly demonstrated that IPADS are abt convenience ...🧡
What’s your day job?
Submariner 👌🏿
Don’t look at someone’s Jawlssssss
It’s no smaller than a MacBook Air 13 inch
