I have wanted an m1000 for years. I have a few m800s and a m600 red tortoise that i don't use because it feels too small. I refuse to get the standard non translucent ones but renaissance brown looks stunning. If they are still selling it later this year I will 100% go for it.

I am also in the "Brown Ages" LOL Glad you got yours and hope it brings you as much happiness as it has me so far! I adore mine. I first put Robert Oster Tea Time in mine. I liked it, but then switched to Diamine Oxblood which I loved as well. Then Now I'm trying Diamine Ancient Copper, which I love too... lol So I have a bit of a dilemma.. I'm going to try Diamine Autumn Oak in it next to see how I like it. I got it in a fine and it's fairly wetter still for a fine. Hoping the more dry of the Autumn Oak tames the flow down just a hair, but still gives it a nice brown/orange color to match the pen kind of.

I also have steeped umber by FWP, but there is no way to get the M1000 in that bottle opening. I might get another Pineider traveling inkwell just for my M1000 once I figure out what ink I want in it.

I've been thoroughly enjoying my M1000 Renaissance Brown since I received it a couple of weeks ago - I likewise went with the EF nib, not seriously expecting to to be extra fine, and was not disappointed. I have the M815 Metal Striped in Medium, and to be honest my natural handwriting is a bit too small for the line width that nib produces - feels lovely but the end result is borderline illegible. I tried to buy the M800 Brown-Black a few years back, but missed out - so eventually I went with this instead. For checking ink levels, I use the flashlight on my phone - it's slightly annoying, but it works well enough.

I have the 2017 M800 Renaissance Brown. İt is a beautiful pen but personally not enough to tempt me to get the M1000 version. And besides I have enough M1000s as it is. But if they ever brought back the M1000 version of the Grand Place they had in 2016 as an M800, I might have a harder time passing on it. Eventhough I have the m800 one. To be honest though, I stoped getting Pelikan pens for a while now. You mentioned the misaligned nib on yours; I have had sooo many babys bottom problem with Pelikan pens it’s ridiculous at this point. Contrary to you, I enjoy broader and wetter pens. So Pelikan seems to be a great match to me, but at those price points they need to have waaay better QC. I’ll have to say I had amazing nibs from the brand as well. And when they write properly right out of the box, they are a pure FP joy. Still I don’t intentionaly look out for Pelikans anymore unless something truly special catches my eye. And they do come along every now and then😊 thankfully not very often though.
I’m glad to hear you will have the opportunity to get this wonderful pen ground to your liking in person. The M1000 is a great pen to have in such a beautifully curated collection as yours and I hope it brings you some FP joy every time you write with it 😊

Wondering if I buy this pen in a local retail shop and check the nib right there, do you think it’s possible to reduce the quality risk down to the minimum?
