Platinum is one of the only makers that ships semi-permanent iron gall blue black ink with its pens as standard. That Blue Black ink cartridge is one of the more "famous" inks from Platinum, so if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to try out the ink. It's extremely well behaved with a lot of good shading. Platinum's dye-based inks are among the most well behaved anywhere, and their Classic Ink line of iron gall inks is even better than their standard dye-based inks.
I love my Platinum 3776 pens, the Chartres Blue was my first and I was hooked. It was my first gold nib pen too. They're really just great pens. Enjoy.
I love mine and have multiple. The uef is my favourite. The nibs imo can be a little ‘hit and miss’- I’ve had to exchange a couple. Once you find a good one, to me, almost perfection.
How beautiful! I'm glad you like it. I just ordered the same pen in the same color but with a fine nib, but it hasn't arrived yet. Now I'm even more excited.
I have 3376 limited edition with the Soft Fine nib. I have not experimented with many inks, mostly use Waterman Intense Black and have very nice results.
I recently purchased a platinum 3776 koi. It is my first platinum and I love it. It writes great and the koi pattern is beautiful. I am now a platinum 3776 fan.
I have the exact same pen and I really love it! I was surprised because the nib is harder but I find it a very pleasant feel when I write with it. I would like to get a broad next for something different!!!
Thank you for a wonderful video. My magnificent nephew gifted me this identical pen just today for my birthday. It is just beautiful. I dearly love it. Great writer and perfectly designed pen. By the way, your nails are exquisite. They are perfectly shaped and they have a gorgeous sheen to them. My compliments. You are so very elegant and sophisticated.
So I ended up just loving the Platinum 3776 and now have 4, Red, Green, Blue and Sands of Komodo. I have 2 in Medium and 2 in Broad and just love them.
@@KarynaLovesToPlan I think it's all part of the learning process. I sold a pen and then really missed it, so bought it again and love it now. As we learn more about pens and inks, dry, wet, etc., our tastes just phase in and out. It's ok to change our mind and accept even some "mistakes" along the way. Fountain pens are more of an adventure then imagined, the more you get into the hobby. All the colors, all the nib sizes, all the different materials to write with or even do art with. But I do find I am more particular now and know a little more what I like and don't like and that's the fun and the adventure. And the continual search for the next great pen. I started out with some very inexpensive pens but have found that I won't be buying those anymore and appreciate the craftmanship that are in the pens that are a bit more expensive. I'm not talking Urushi just yet and don't plan to, but the Japanese pens, Pilot, Sailor, Platinum, have brought a fair amount of joy, and those are pricier. But even so, some TWSBI's and Kaweco's are also some of my faves. It's just fun, what more do we need from a hobby.
I have this pen in a medium :) and it's so smooth. I like that my medium does write like a lot of western mediums, but it can also write thinly like a Japanese medium. One of my favorites!
I tried the Plaisir with a Medium nib and loved it! The Fine was the only one available at the shop but now really happy with it! p.s. loved your most recent ink haul video!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Thanks Karyna! I'm happy you liked that video xD I thought it would be an injustice to not share all the ink samples I hauled with the rest of the community to see and buy if they like :D but I really enjoyed making the video too. I love Japanese fine nibs, they are great for every day writing, so you can never go wrong with a good Fine nib :D
I have the white version of this pen with a fine nib. It writes well but I got off to a little bit of a rough start. I've been using Platinum cartridges since the beginning and it took a very long time for the ink to get through the feed the first time. I tried flushing the nib with water and squeezing the cartridge after it was installed but it took longer than any other pen I own to begin writing.
@@KarynaLovesToPlan No problems since the beginning. The slip & seal feature has kept the nib from ever drying out. Now that the ink is flowing I'm going to stay with the same color of ink in the Platinum cartridges.
I have four 3776 Two Bourgundy Red, SF and EF nib One Chartres Blue, EF nib One Nice Lavande, UEF nib My next will be the Laurel Green, with musical nib Yes, I'm a collector.. Best pen wishes.Liselotte in Sweden
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Thank you, but that's only my 3776s. I have several Preppys, Plaisirs and Procyons too. And that's just the Platinums.. I have Parker, Lamy, Cross etc. too..
Oooh, pretty! My partner loves the 3776, has several. I have one, as well and love it. Also: Not that I needed any more pens, but... y'know. Go an Esterbrook Jr. a few weeks ago and it's lovely!
I just got my first fountain pen a couple of days ago, and I'm already looking to buy another! Got hooked after the first sentance I wrote! Been looking at a lot of pens, and this is one of the ones I am considering buying, but ideally I'd want something either more modern and sleek looking, or the complete opposite with something very traditional like the 3776 with Maki-e designs (but they cost double the amount of the regular 3776, so not sure if it's worth it for me). Any ideas? Edit: Also wanted to say that the heart in the nib is one of the main things that makes me want this lol. It's so cute!
It really depends what is worth spending money on. If you love the 3776 and the way it writes, and you think investing in the Maki-e is worth it, go for it! But the writing experience won’t be that much different to the regular 3776. Good luck choosing!
This is one of the next pens on my list. I won a Pilot 743 (M) and love how smooth and bouncy the nib is. I am a bit heavy handed though when I write. So I wish it was a fine nib. Sort of has me torn on this pen if I want the EF, F, or SF. Need to go hands on with them to figure it out I guess.
My 3776 with EF nib hard starts almost every time and it skips unless I write unnaturally slow and deliberate. I’m going to return to the store soon and bring the pen because maybe it is my user error as I am new to fountain pens
I bought mine two months ago and finally inked it up this week 😂 I have it in a coarse nib … I also feel the toothiness but think I need to spend more time with it
Hi karyna, thinking of getting this pen with a fine. How does the feedback compare against the sailor? I have a coarse and it feels like the nib has resistance against the page when writing while the sailor has more audible feedback and lesser feedback/resistance compared to the platinum
I have the 3776 Century Sakura with medium nib. Very smooth when at proper rotation angle but digs a bit if rolled even a little bit. It has feedback on paper with tooth but is glass smooth on Claire Fountaine. My Namiki (m) is smoother overall but the Sakura is very enjoyable to write with. Those two are my default writers. My inked pens I carry are Caran d’Ache Leman (B), Sailor PG (F), and Pelikan 600 Art Collection (M) The Platinum and Namiki have Akkerman ink in them. Caran d’Ache has Pilot Ku-Jaku, Sailor has Sailor, and I’m still searching for best ink for Pelikan.
I have 4 of these, probably the pens I use the most. The basic ones, made of plastic, are a little less nice than the higher end models…the plastic gets duller with little micro scratches….but they all have great nibs. I don’t care for the fine nib, though, mine is just too fine and dry. Medium and broad are perfect.
I actually ended up selling this pen because I didn't end up loving the nib. Funny enough, I now have a Needlepoint which may be finer than this but I love the Needlepoint more!

3776 in Chartres Blue translucent body is my favorite pen. Looks gorgeous, and pleasant to write.
I have just ordered this Exact same Pen but in a medium. So excited it will be my first Japanese. 😊👍
Hope you enjoy it!
Great review 😀 you answered all my questions. I’ll put the 3776 on my list. 😊
Platinum’s fine nib (not the soft fine) is one of my favourite nibs. The feedback provides me with an almost ASMR experience when I’m drawing.
It was something I needed to get used to. This is not a pen I have in my collection anymore, but I think I'd be open to it again in the future.

The plastic of 3776 always felt a bit cheap to me, but the nibs are great and the price is much better than Sailor 1911L

The Platinum nib is stiffer than the Sailor nib. The Fine is finer than the Medium Fine on the sailor.
Do you like better the new Platinum pen, or the Sailor Pro Gear pen?
I prefer my Sailor Pro Gear in size and nib size. Platinum was too hard of a nib for me.
