How to get your Tesla to Supercharge at 250 kW

In the specification for my Tesla model 3 in stands that it can charge at a charging rate of 250 kW at a Tesla Supercharger. But very seldom this charging rate is accomplished. The charging rate is most of the time lower, why is it like this? Not all chargers can deliver this high current, some Superchargers can only deliver 150 kW. More over a battery is like a glass of water, if you like to fill it up to maximum you have to do the last part very slowly in order to not spill water. An you cannot spill in a battery. Then the battery has to be in the optimal temperature to be able to receive the highest current of 250 kW. One method to rice the temperature in the battery is to discharge it, so by driving for a longer distance make the battery warmer. On top of this Tesla has invented a system that is precondition the battery when you put a Supercharger as the destination in the cars navigator. When all of this conditions are met there is the possibility that the car will charge at the maximum rate of 250 kW in the beginning of the charging session. What’s a 2020 model S do because in 2 years I don’t think I’ve ever gone over 125kw and it drops from there

Yes you are correct. It is only model 3 LR that has the capacity to charge so fast.

I hate when I can never get it close to 250 kW. Drives me nuts! I don’t think I’ve ever reached over 160 and I’m charging at a 250 KW !!!

Do you have a Model 3 LR? This SR can only charge up to 170 kW.
