This is def going to be my second bike. Never had a twist and go bike, this frame and utility goodness is perfect. I can upgrade the bike without OEM troubles, it's just perfect!

Importantly you clarified with examples the real value and difference between this model/Utilitarian vs. an ebike that is ment to be peddled and designed accordingly. Hi, When will the new controller be available, the one with rear brake light connection. Can the controller use a 52v battery? Just double checking. Can a Shark 52v fit in place of stock battery? I think your assessment of the Radrunner is perfectly fair. I have owned mine for 6 months and I still find it hilarious to ride. When I ride my wife on it I set the seat height flush and just ride throttle. Riding alone when I feel like pedaling I set the seat height up for some leg extension and can pedal it comfortably. I really like your controller and screen upgrade so I will probably do that.
Kyle with regard to pedaling comfort you didn’t mention that the saddle is adjustable. When I ride mine solo into town I set the saddle up to accommodate my normal cycling leg extension. When I am just pleasure riding on throttle with or without my wife on the back I set the rider saddle level with the passenger seat as you mention. I got this bike mainly for my wife and we both love it. I will probably get a Rad River for myself then get the upgrade kit.
Hi, When your at the part with the 2 motors 7:02 , the one on the right you say is a typical 750w Bafang, is that a different one from your 750w your selling on your site? Typical is that mean to fit with single drive like the Runner you have in the video? So is the one from your site only for multi drive? If so do you know where I could find the same 500w or a 750w that fits a single drive Runner? I broke the shaft inside the bolt on one side tightening the bolt after fixing a flat. I've been looking everywhere for a motor that I can just swap in but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't consider myself much of a bike mechanic, but I had no problem installing fender on my RadRunner last fall. Man up and remember, as the great Red Green says, "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
There was a guy on the Radrunner upgrade FB. He had to extend the back fork with a 1/2" threaded rod and some nuts and he said the tension was strong enough to go through his chest if he wasnt careful. sadly it wasn't too detailed, I intend to pm him to pick his mind.
Just ordered my radrunner. So glad I came across this video. This will be my first upgrade purchase soon. Was going to add the new LCD screen from Rad. But for a little over $200 I can get a new screen and controller instead, which is a no brainier.

Just how costly is the motor and controller mods ( parts and labor )? Also, what is the effect on the top speed? This is information that was left out of the video and very important in the decision making process!
I installed the controller upgrade on my new RadRunner. Top speed is still around 20mph but torq is much better. I would like to know if the top speed can be adjusted with this new controller.
So what was the top speed with and without the upgrade?That should be mentioned on this video if you plan on selling the upgrade so people have a idea.
I can say that the throttle only top speed without the upgrade is 20 MPH, as an almost 300lb guy I can hit the top speed on flats. I don't know what the top speed with the upgrade would be, but I'm sure its highly dependent on how heavy of a load you're carrying.

I have a 2020 RadRover5 on order and should be taking delivery soon. From the other Rad videos that I've seen my bike will have the updated video monitor. My question is, if I have the 500w motor, will that controller "unlock" a 750w motor? In other words, can I just upgrade the motor and leave the other components ?

Your video was revealing about the Rad Runner. I had been interested in the Rad Runner, but seeing your video has given me cause for concern about this bike being a good fit for myself. I am excessively heavy and live in the hilly rural area of Maine, I want a bike which will help me up those hills and provide pedaling options for exercise. I am looking at the Rad Mini or Rad Rover, am kind of leaning toward the Rover, not sure how well it will do on those hills. Also, not sure about the portability of the Mini. At this point, will wait until spring to buy an ebike, so right now am trying to find the best ebike fit for me. There is a Pedago Shop in Bar Harbor, but those bikes are pretty much out of my price range. The terrain here is hilly country roads, dirt roads, with bike lanes and sidewalksl only found in large towns, such as Bangor.
Hey Steve, I've had a RadRunner for a few weeks now, and can give you a bit of insight into how it rides. I'm about 6 foot 2, 280LB, and have absolutely no issue riding the thing with the seat raised to an appropriate height. On flats its surprisingly nippy with the stock controller, and can easily get my butt up to the stock speed limit of 20mph. Larger hills can be a bit of an issue though since its fixed gear. I don't know if the upgraded controller will help much with getting to the top of hills without much work, but I find that I can get a bit winded on PAS 4 when I pedal up the .3 mile long, about 15% grade hill. Its a damn nice ride though, feels really solid and stable while riding, and even though it has no shocks, the fat tires really dampen anything but major bumps.
@@arvald That is good to hear, I am currently looking at a Juiced Fat Tire Bike, not sure the model, very similar to the Rad Rover, I think $1700. Has fenders and rear rack which I want. I liked the green Rad Runner. Not going to buy until Spring. The price is right on the Rad Runner and I can skip the fenders. Here in Maine there are some short steep hills and some long not so steep hills. So am still debating which one I should get. Thanks for the info.
I just installed my Bolton upgrade controller on my wife’s radrunner, I have no pedal assist, how can I get back my pedal assist, it only throttle only. Please help.
Can the Rad mini be upgraded. I see that the cables run into an enclosed box under the battery, nowhere near enough room for the controller. I am thinking of upgrading my mini to 52v high ah battery. It is the Canadian version 500 W. Possible?

The RadRunner is purpose built and for that intended function it is great! I have a 2019 RadMini that I take off-road. I have a 2019 RadCity that I take on cross-city road trips. Personally the RadRunner is too small for me (5'10"), and I don't have a need for bike that was designed primarily as an "electric-moped." I like to pedal! But I can imagine it being the perfect ride for someone.
Motor left vs right. There is like half the magnets and motor on the radrunner. These 750w are not created equal clearly! Id love to see a independent dyno run of various "750w" motors. Sure you can put 750w in them same as another, but they wont output the same physical power/torque if the motors tiny. Right?
What is the top speed with the upgrade on the radrunner With throttle only? Please let me know as I’m thinking about buying one and getting the upgrade
Average speed 25 mph. If you're using throttle only - you'll wear down the charge on the battery a lot faster. It truly depends on the terrain and weight the rider to be able to answer that. The range can be longer if you're pedaling. It adds significant power for acceleration and climbing, but not necessarily top speed. To increase top speed you would need to increase the battery voltage.
Would u want to take a look at the cyc X1 pro 3000w Motor? For the price it looks like a killer motor, but i wanna have the opinion of someone with a lot of experience with electric conversion kits

If a person knew they were never going to carry people on it.. would it be easier to just remove the clear plastic leg shield and that would make putting a fender on much easier? Or is that just as difficult to remove. Or can you order it without the plastic shield in place and order a fender installed? Or could you order the bike without the clear shield and order a fender and install it easier that way.

Enjoyed the video! Recently bought a Nakto Camel. It is fine for me. The only issue is that the pedal assist is not variable. It's on or off and when it goes on it's too strong so I can only pedal one or two rotations before I have to stop pedaling. I find that I only use the throttle to assist my pedaling. Is it possible to add a variable speed arrangement? What parts must be changed to add this? Thanks!

How did you get the single speed freewheel of the old motor? I have tried the FR6 tool bored out to for over the connector and hex nut; however, I can't apply enough torque to loosen it. Ended damaging the removal tool. The 750 Bafang motor upgrade on your website says it's is not compatible with Radrunners. What gives?
@@colombianomd1 the normal radrunner runs a 170mm hub model, most bafang (and other) hub motor are 175mm because they have extra space to fit a cassete, and the radrunner is single speed so its a thinner motor

It would seem your more of a bafang ally than the DD Shengyi motor. Is there that much difference between the two motors both rated at 500watts. I'm in Canada and think the one I have Shengyi is 750 watts. But really won't know until I pull out the guts.

Kyle - I forgot to ask - did you have a longer post length on the wired side with the upgraded motor - It was like 1' longer for me - required a spacer on the flywheel AND very tough to get in the dropouts!

This bike is just the cheapest option with the most potential it costs the same to upgrade other bikes so upgrading this one ends up being 1500 for a bike that goes faster than bikes of that price range.

Quick Tip: you can install the fenders by just deflating the rear tire. It’s tight, but it works.

Would you ask the owner of the radrunner with the mod what his top speed is. I know rad says they have it geared for 20 max, would like a little more.

I would consider what I sell "typical" yes. I don't know of an upgraded motor in the odd narrow width the Radrunner 1 uses.

(1) Would it be possible to buy a RUNNER and have it shipped directly to you and you do the upgrade and then ship it off to me?

Your video was revealing about the Rad Runner. I had been interested in the Rad Runner, but seeing your video has given me cause for concern about this bike being a good fit for myself. I am excessively heavy and live in the hilly rural area of Maine, I want a bike which will help me up those hills and provide pedaling options for exercise. I am looking at the Rad Mini or Rad Rover, am kind of leaning toward the Rover, not sure how well it will do on those hills. Also, not sure about the portability of the Mini. At this point, will wait until spring to buy an ebike, so right now am trying to find the best ebike fit for me. There is a Pedago Shop in Bar Harbor, but those bikes are pretty much out of my price range. The terrain here is hilly country roads, dirt roads, with bike lanes and sidewalksl only found in large towns, such as Bangor.
Hey Steve, I've had a RadRunner for a few weeks now, and can give you a bit of insight into how it rides. I'm about 6 foot 2, 280LB, and have absolutely no issue riding the thing with the seat raised to an appropriate height. On flats its surprisingly nippy with the stock controller, and can easily get my butt up to the stock speed limit of 20mph. Larger hills can be a bit of an issue though since its fixed gear. I don't know if the upgraded controller will help much with getting to the top of hills without much work, but I find that I can get a bit winded on PAS 4 when I pedal up the .3 mile long, about 15% grade hill.
Its a damn nice ride though, feels really solid and stable while riding, and even though it has no shocks, the fat tires really dampen anything but major bumps.
@@arvald That is good to hear, I am currently looking at a Juiced Fat Tire Bike, not sure the model, very similar to the Rad Rover, I think $1700. Has fenders and rear rack which I want. I liked the green Rad Runner. Not going to buy until Spring. The price is right on the Rad Runner and I can skip the fenders. Here in Maine there are some short steep hills and some long not so steep hills. So am still debating which one I should get. Thanks for the info.

The RadPower upgrade kit won't work on the Juiced bikes.

How much is the bigger Bafang 750 motor and have you ever put one in the Rad Runner?
The RadRunner is purpose built and for that intended function it is great! I have a 2019 RadMini that I take off-road. I have a 2019 RadCity that I take on cross-city road trips. Personally the RadRunner is too small for me (5'10"), and I don't have a need for bike that was designed primarily as an "electric-moped." I like to pedal! But I can imagine it being the perfect ride for someone.
I have a hard time finding geared hub motors over 1000watts.
Motor left vs right. There is like half the magnets and motor on the radrunner. These 750w are not created equal clearly! Id love to see a independent dyno run of various "750w" motors. Sure you can put 750w in them same as another, but they wont output the same physical power/torque if the motors tiny. Right?
Is there still a plug and play 750w motor for the radrunner?
What is the top speed with the upgrade on the radrunner With throttle only? Please let me know as I’m thinking about buying one and getting the upgrade
Average speed 25 mph. If you're using throttle only - you'll wear down the charge on the battery a lot faster. It truly depends on the terrain and weight the rider to be able to answer that. The range can be longer if you're pedaling. It adds significant power for acceleration and climbing, but not necessarily top speed. To increase top speed you would need to increase the battery voltage.

If a person knew they were never going to carry people on it.. would it be easier to just remove the clear plastic leg shield and that would make putting a fender on much easier? Or is that just as difficult to remove. Or can you order it without the plastic shield in place and order a fender installed? Or could you order the bike without the clear shield and order a fender and install it easier that way.

Answer is no...just remove the rear wheel. Not that hard following Rad’s video. I don’t see anyway to install that rear fender without removing it.

We have tried the RadRover Upgrade Kit on the RadRunner and can confirm it works. We have not tested the tail light version.

Enjoyed the video! Recently bought a Nakto Camel. It is fine for me. The only issue is that the pedal assist is not variable. It's on or off and when it goes on it's too strong so I can only pedal one or two rotations before I have to stop pedaling. I find that I only use the throttle to assist my pedaling. Is it possible to add a variable speed arrangement? What parts must be changed to add this? Thanks!

How did you get the single speed freewheel of the old motor? I have tried the FR6 tool bored out to for over the connector and hex nut; however, I can't apply enough torque to loosen it. Ended damaging the removal tool. The 750 Bafang motor upgrade on your website says it's is not compatible with Radrunners. What gives?
@@colombianomd1 the normal radrunner runs a 170mm hub model, most bafang (and other) hub motor are 175mm because they have extra space to fit a cassete, and the radrunner is single speed so its a thinner motor

It would seem your more of a bafang ally than the DD Shengyi motor. Is there that much difference between the two motors both rated at 500watts. I'm in Canada and think the one I have Shengyi is 750 watts. But really won't know until I pull out the guts.

Kyle - I forgot to ask - did you have a longer post length on the wired side with the upgraded motor - It was like 1' longer for me - required a spacer on the flywheel AND very tough to get in the dropouts!

This bike is just the cheapest option with the most potential it costs the same to upgrade other bikes so upgrading this one ends up being 1500 for a bike that goes faster than bikes of that price range.
