    Good and honest review of this beautiful car! I must admit I am a bit baffled that the software/battery related issues mentioned (poor frequency of software updates, air conditioning that suddenly stopped working, removal of steering assist functions on the steering wheel, etc.) still exist. Those problems already existed more than 2 years (!?) ago on my XC40 P8...

    Excellent review, thank you. I have owned my C40 Ultimate for 8 months. My only problem has been “sticky brakes” which happen during my first two months and were fixed by the dealer. Compared to my previous vehicles, my C40 has much better build quality. Love it!

      Thanks Warren! Glad they solved that quickly. Overall the C40 is very solid, all the things I mention can be fixed fortunately. Perhaps a bit of 'bad luck' that I have one of the very early C40's with these little issues. Overall the car is a joy. 😊

    I've had my 2023 C40 for exactly 2 months. I love it. But I do also have the same issue with the plastic piece at the top of the windshield on the driver's side. It's a tad loose. No issues with the rear doors or the little triangles. There is a slight whistling noise that I hear when I'm going above roughly 40 mph. It seems to be coming from the outside passenger side. I'll be going to the dealer to see if they can figure it out. But I still love it!

    Another completely honest review from Thom. Volvo needs to pay attention to reviewers like Thom who obviously is a big Volvo fan but is frank about the shortcomings. My "favorite" flaw is the useless buttons on the steering wheel (4:49 ). Clearly an error that Volvo did not need to make. I also worry that the battery management/range tracking, which is key to efficient routing and charging, isn't nearly as comprehensive as the competition. I do hope Volvo makes some big strides in the next model year.

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for the kind words Richard! I'm a fan but we also got to keep the company focussed on delivering quality products as they also want to do. The button/steering wheel flaw is such a typical Volvo mistake where I guess communication or lack of 'ownership' caused the mistake. I've heard rumors they will sort it out so fingers crossed. Good addition regarding the range/battery management. I hope some OTA's will improve that a bit more in the future!

    The best and most honest review of a Volvo car on youtube ever! I totally share your view on the problems besid of that door trim (my XC60 doesn't have that part). But the rest, the aircon stopped working (in my case twice), and the annoying move of Steering assist control on the steering wheel was; a totally unnecessary and idiotic change that Volvo made! To Volvo people, if you ever read it here: There are two buttons on the steering wheel, be smart and use it for something, e.g., one for steering assist and another one for changing the drive mode!!!

    Just got a C40 as a courtesy car, whilst my V40 is in for a service. I agree with your comments on software.... The indicators made no sound... when I used them and the centre screen stopped working on the 5 miles back from the dealers! Googled the issue and its common enough to be easy to find a solution... Press and hold the button beneath the screen for long enough and the system resets... Problem "solved". Sure a bigger centre screen is nice but I have to say, the ancient self contained system in the V40, does at least feel like a released product, not some sort of beta / proof of concept.

    I had the same AC issue, but with a different electric car. The dealership could never find the problem because when they would connect the laptop it wouldn’t show any problem, coz the ac would start working on my way to the dealership (classic). I was finally able to get the car there, with the ac off and it turned out to be a faulty sensor. They changed the compressor as well. Hope that helps.

    Hey Thom, Mijn C40 had ook het probleem met de driehoekige ruitjes en de rubbers aan de achterdeuren. Deze zijn gisteren onder garantie vervangen, blijkbaar is het een productiefout aan de ruitjes waardoor de rubbers blijven haperen en deze uiteindelijk beschadigd raken.
    Nu bij de nieuwe ruitjes is het niveauverschil waar de rubbers bleven achter hangen weggewerkt en is het probleem opgelost.
    Verder viel de radioverbinding regelmatig weg maar dit zou nu opgelost moeten zijn met de V 2.5 software update die gisteren ook is geïnstalleerd, afwachten of dit ook zo is ?
    Inderdaad vervelend dat de bedieningsknoppen links op het stuur niet meer werken om cruisecontrole of speedlimiter in te schakelen, in mijn XC 40 hybrid kon dit wel. hopelijk kunnen ze dit via een software aan passen.
    Verder is het super topwagen met wat kinderziektes die wel opgelost geraken, ik kijk uit naar jou volgende vlogs.
    Nog veel fijne C 40 momenten.

    I also own C40 for the past 6 months. I noticed my car has the same issue with the plastic sticking up on the roof/windshield. The weirdest thing is it only happens on one side (the same side as yours). My AC also stopped working twice for no reason. In the past few days, the GPS and Google Maps have been acting up. It couldn't detect the location of the car. Never happens before. I had to restart (hard reset) the infotainment system. I'm wondering why can't Volvo use the same interface with Polestar 2? That said. I owned many cars in the past and this car is nothing like any other cars that I owned. I love it. It's a great car. The biggest issue is the infotainment system. It seems Volvo will be sharing the same interface with Polestar since EX90 and Polestar 3 have the same interior and screen.

      @thom-lov  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the interesting info! Sounds like our cars have a lot in common. Fortunately many things can be solved. My LTE signal has been a bit weak last week but overall OK. The Polestar interface is nice as well but sadly Volvo seperates their 'house style' between both. Same will be with the EX90 and P3. But basically besides a different interface it's all the same. Glad you enjoy the car similar as I am. It's a cool and very Swedish 'special' car. 😊

      @@thom-lov Thank you. Another thing that you should do a video on is Coasting vs One pedal driving. In my unofficial non-scientific observation, it seems coasting uses less electric consumption than one pedal drive (about 5-10 kwh per 100 miles). When you turn off one pedal drive, the car would coast (after you let your foot of the gas pedal) for a long distance before breaking unlike the ICE car.

      The issue FOR ME is 1.9 to 2.0 they actually removed Audio over USB and told NO ONE !, annoyance factor MAX, in recent upgrades they fixed it KIND OF, no matter what USB stick you plug in the car tells you it's not compatible, all you have to do though is just say OK, allow AUDIOWAGON (usb file player, the ONLY one!, si Instal via the app centre) to access the stick and it works... ALMOST. If you have a lot of music on the stick it won't play where you left off for about two minutes, you can play from the start by going through the app menu but it's a pain, it's also a pain that EVERY TIME you switch on you get the pop up. THE CAR is great, loving it and I'm used to tapping through the menu but it is very fristrating. For me wired apple carplay is totally useless, I don't really use the other features so to just use it for audio is pointless, I could use wireless bluetooth !

    Few things quite disappointing for me as I consider an electric Volvo (most likely EX90) as our next car:
    - No easy way to switch between speed limiter and cruise control. I switch between them several times per every trip currently: speed limit in build up areas, cruise control outside. Will I have to go into several levels of on screen menu for this every time? Does Volvo think it's safe?
    - Glass roof without curtains. Of course they say it's tinted etc. But is it enough?

      @@thom-lov That is 100% true.
      However all I've seen looks like the same problem: no curtain on the glass roof and no dedicated buttons for switching between speed limiter and cruise control (Volvo had dedicated buttons for this on the steering wheel years ago didn't it?).
      I've also checked videos of EX30 entertainment system (that I expect is much closed to what we can expect to see in EX90) and found the same there: you have to go into settings -> driving -> something something to switch between cruise control (or driving assist) and speed limiter ...

Excuse me, FFS!!!, Volvo removes Audio over USB in 2.0 no one knew even the dealer, who by the way ASKED ME on delivery how to play audio over USB in the first place... REALLY ? Seven months on all we have are promises it'll be resolved, WHY was it removed in the first place, my 6 yr old i3 played with no issues a £60K new car can't ? at the moment you get a USB compatibility warning, which you click through and it works, KIND OF. If I want to play music on my iphone why would I use WIRED carplay, USELESS I'd just use bluetooth, OK so other features on carplay, I've ripped 3 cables to pieces so far and I don't use the 'other' features.
