      It's a sad comparison that people that don't understand investments use. Most cars are not good for investments, but there are some, and for those people I get it. Most people that can afford high end cars that increase in value, can afford multiple other daily drivers. They could also afford to modify whatever they want, so its whatever. People can do whatever the fuck they want.

      Right but on a car like this you aren’t returning any money for a long period of time. So if you’re fine with having a car sit in your garage for the next 30 years before selling it then maybe you’ll have a point. The comparison is just a demonstration of concepts because obviously a girl’s pussy isn’t remotely the same as a car and as such is a bit like apples to oranges but y’all just can’t take it for the concept and have to be 100% accurate all the time because it’s youtube.

    You're right, dude.
    800 crank from a 520hp engine is barely a 50% increase in stress. Crankshafts are a rigidity item more than a fatigue item. It'll be fine. If that engine has 2" mains, and the crank is made of nodular iron that elongates 8% at fracture, the crank will have to flex 0.12" before anything happens. You'll fuck up the mains before the crank ever breaks. Last I checked, those have forged steel cranks or some shit. Drive the goddamn fuck out of it.
    The fatigue limit takes like 10 million cycles to reach. That engine would have to sit there in a dyno cell, at 9800 RPM, and 12 PSI for 17 hours non-stop in order to trigger a fatigue failure, and that's only if the goddamn engine was optimized that close anyway. You can hold the car WOT for 30 seconds 2000 times. That's five times a day, for almost 6 years. 30 seconds of THAT much power is more than enough to get into deep trouble.

    I like this guy's demeanor. He's fun to listen to. I have tracked my GT350 a number of times. For me the average amateur driver I can say I don't find it under-powered. For me and my skill it has good balance. Oddly enough while at the track, each day there was always at least one wreck. Sadly it was always a Mustang. It certainly doesn't help the perception that Mustang guys can't drive. Anyway. My gut tells me that most drivers, key word most, would wreck their cars left and right while tracking their GT350 if it had 200 more RWHP. In summary there are probably drivers that could drive a supercharged GT350 without wrecking the car and leveraging the additional HP and pulling quicker lap times. I just don't think I am one of them. In a straight line, hell yes. I could handle that for sure. I used to have a 700HP fox-body but on a road course I would kill myself if I had another 200 RWHP in my GT350. And again I am not saying this poster is incorrect. Please don't bash me. I am sure he is spot on and I am not disagreeing with his logic, I am just saying with my driving skill I would probably end up wrecking my car on the track with another 200 RWHP. It seems the sweet spot where most of the track guys like running is a 2,800 to 3,000 pound car with about 300 RWHP. I do find my car heavy on the track at times especially when pushing it hard. This car probably has about 450 RWHP and weighs about 3,800 pounds. It could go on a diet for sure. LOL

    Hey, I'm an engineer and I find this video slightly offensive...and incredibly accurate. I've spent hundreds of hours making manuals before, thinking everything is perfectly concise and articulate...then another human comes along and actually utilizes it, becoming dumbfounded by the confusion and illogical decisions, relative to common sense (that's usually our downfall...the whole "common sense" thing). Theory is essential to all technology and is the cornerstone for development...but it's rendered somewhat useless and impractical until real-life application has been applied. The application validates the theory, and not the other way around. Do you want to think about sex, or have sex? I try to do both though when appropriate...

    ford in 2019 beefed up the internal a bit / cylinder water jackets and the head casting, also longer head bolts and a different head gasket, higher heat resistant valves and a few more things and said it can handle 12 psi of boost all day, so the 2016 and up can handle anything from 7 to 12 psi of boost without a doubt in my mind. the only thing I would do, is get the 350R timing chain and gears

    Hello Alex. I miss not being able to pick your brain on tuning Tuesdays anymore. But big fan of your channel and your honesty and how little your are concern with voicing your opinions.
    But about that Voodoo motor. I remember you have said earlier that you would not do anything to the GT350 other then give it a good tune and drive it.
    So I am a little surprised you have changed your opinion. But I guess have more info now to value your current opinion. I fully agree the GT350 with it's high rpm capability would be a the ultimate Mustang currently with FI.
    But I asked Justin Starkey about his thought on bigger cams to take even better use of the rpm range in combo with long tubes. He said no one is offering anything. But sounded interested of the thought. But he said the VMP tune would bump the rev limit to 8500. Then Donny(VMP) said when I asked him about his opinion. He said the reason was because so many cranks are snapping on stock engines. He also said he had heard that some pro road racing teams had swapped over to Coyote cranks. Have you heard of that?
    But is the Aluminator, simple a Voodoo with a Coyote crank? It is the same displacement but is rated even higher HP. Is the new GT500 maybe just that motor with a TVS on top?

  • @mgreene011
    @mgreene011 6 років тому +5

    I own a 2019 GT 350 in performance Blue with white stripes and I absolutely love it. Now, I initially thought, I am going to SC or Turbo it with guys like Fathouse or Hennessey and got a few quotes. I was blown away at the high cost. Be ready to spend $25k - $60k depending on what you want to be done. Then I start to do some research and found the following, and I will just summarize it here.
    The bottom line is, do NOT modify with SC or TC the GT 350. Here is the reason why from multiple engineers and expert mechanics I spoke to:
    1. GT 350 engine is FPC (Flap Plane Crank), which rev's higher and higher NVH. SC and turbos are not designed for this engine if you want it to last. If you don't mind rebuilding every 10k - 20k miles or so, then I guess SC and TC are ok for you. But rebuild before it fails, or else, you could be looking for a new motor when it fails.
    2. GT 500 uses CPC (Cross Plane Crank) with lower REV and lower NVH, which is why Ford used CPC config to use for SC models to produce 700 HP at the wheel. Yes, the car actually puts out more HP at the crank than advertised.
    3. GT 350 has a high compression ratio 12:1 vs. GT 500 has 9:1 ratio. Boosting over 12 lb on the GT 350 will put too much stress on this engine unless you lower the compression down. Given with FPC, this would not perform as well as high compression. Also, you will need new injectors to handle the higher flow of fuel, new higher-powered fuel pump, and new lines to handle the capacity (all depends on how much boost and hp you are adding on). Pistons and rings are also not designed for this much of increased volume, and again with high compression, good chance you will over-rev and damage the engine over much shorter time than not doing this.
    4. Internal parts are not built to the specifications of increased HP and boost from SC's or turbos. To ensure things don't fail, new billet aluminum oil pump gears, forged pistons, and rods, etc. are needed to properly handle the added stress. Not to mention a new clutch, drive train, etc... depending on how much HP you plan to increase. Anything over 700 HP to the rear wheel will require clutch, and drive train modifications. Expensive.
    5. The reliability of the engine is reduced over 4x. Be ready to rebuild engines frequently when you push it often or track it, or drag strip it. Keep in mind, most race cars get their engine rebuilt after each race in most cases.
    6. Cost... It is extremely expensive to do it right and with that money, you may be better to buy a new motor directly from Ford or just upgrade to the GT 500 car. There is a lot of things like electronic's and gauges that may need to be retrofitted, but given GT 500 uses same block as GT 350, I guess one could just go out and buy a new GT 500 motor with SC already on it and install it on GT 350 for the amount of money you will spend to supercharge the GT 350 properly. But then why... Just go buy the GT 500.
    7. You void the warranty. You're on your own if something breaks. In fact, many engine failures are a result of modifications (i.e. tunes, etc.) if you dig into them.
    So then what can you do safely to GT 350 and still keep it NA?
    A. Change headers (as they are the biggest bottleneck) for performance on the GT 350. The rest of the exhaust won't make much difference (aside from sound difference). Headers alone will make the sound deeper with the stock GT 350 exhaust. However, you will need to retune the ECU to work optimally with the high flow headers. Air/Fuel mixture ratio etc. all have to be recalibrated. Eliminating the resonator does nothing for performance and makes the car sound raspy. Just be warned.
    B. Tune and change out the intake. New headers will also require a tune as I stated above, so if you are going to do the headers, mine as well as do the intake.
    C. change out the driveshaft to Carbon Fiber (makes a big difference) and it will be like adding 35 - 50 HP on the car from what people have said.
    D. If you must, change out the heavy rotors in the front to carbon-ceramic. Lose another 40 - 50 lbs between both rotors, plus they will last the life of the car and make the car more responsive. And virtually no brake dust!
    The Naturally aspirated modifications I am told by multiple engineers, all told me... the header, intake, and tune will put about 500-520+ HP at the wheel vs. 426 HP at the wheel stock. That is a very big boost and you will feel it. With carbon fiber driveshaft and reduced weight from rotors, it will feel like the car is much lighter and even more responsive. Being it will still be NA, the engine will thank you and last the life expectancy of the vehicle. I have heard easy this engine can go 100k+ miles if kept NA or more. GT 350/R with these mods is pretty significant on the track I am told.
    However, even the NA modification will void your warranty. So, I would only do this once the warranty expires. For me, at the rate I am racking up the miles, that would be 3 years tops. I daily my car since I live in a warmer climate state.
    Enjoy your car and don't get caught spending massive money to modify something that was created and engineered so perfectly from many talented engineers.
    The cost to do the SC or turbocharge on this car correctly is around $40 - $60k depending on how much HP you want to gain. And it will not last you that long due to the high NVH and FPC config of this motor.

      @@YDBT4LIFE Thanks.
      1. I looked at Hennessy, FatHouse, and few other local performance shops that do exactly what your youtube video is showing. I spoke to all of them and asked them very specific questions and got quotes. But I also spoke to Ford and several mechanics who have been mechanics working on engines for the past 30 years. Not sure what that has anything to do with the credibility of my post.
      But you do what you do. Go ahead and spend $10k on a SC. Good luck to you. Do some research next time and I doubt ford engineers who designed this engine knows less than you or aftermarket folks. $10k won't buy you 1/2 of what you need to do to the engine to get it working properly and make it run with any stability and longevity. If you don't care about blowing an engine or stressing it and running it at breaking point and rebuild it, so be it. But it is dangerous to put such a recommendation on youtube for the general public to take action on their precious cars. Go get certified master tech with Ford motor and work in the shop for a few decades and maybe... someone may listen to you. Because those are the folks I spoke to.
      The reason why Carol Shelby and Shelby racing team charges what they do to do is because they do it right and they work directly with Ford to really understand the mechanics of what they are dealing with, and it isn't cheap to do it right. If you really want your GT 350 supercharged, go call Shelby America and talk to them about what it would cost and listen to people who know what they are talking about. It is dangerous postings like this that make people ruin their cars.

    Since you're with LR now and they offer the ghost cam tune, what are your personal opinions on it? In terms of possibly decreasing reliability, etc. I got it when I had my Kooks LT's put on (from LR of course) and while I think it's definitely a badass advancement in tuning tech and definitely a gimmick I've always wondered about decrease in reliability from the extra vibrations at idle. Definitely love your videos, actually get excited when I see a new video pop up. Actually learning quality information.

    I don't blame anyone that would want a few hundred more wheel horsepower to a 350/R. I would try and utilize as many Factory parts and FRPP upgrades available but i see it as no different then SC'in an E92 M3 V8. The same nimble, good stopping and balanced platform like the M3 or others sometimes need a little extra to make it that truly powerful balanced setup that can perform on the level of cars many times over or even be the factor that keeps you from the selling your 350/M3 for a higher hp Forced Induction vehicle from the factory. i would love to get my hands on a 5.2L Voodoo as well as many others I'm sure, and swap in to my 3V or earlier Fox/SN95 chassis and use it as a Road Race setup. It would be the ideal High HP N/A engine that will do wonders and take a beating stock compared to what you would need to do to Recent and Slightly older DOHC platforms. Just my 2 cents and solid content as usual Yolo !

    I will add that that the comments about engineering on fit and accessibility is one thing. But dismissing ICE engineers is an entire different ball game. All limitation parameters come from testing and repeatable results. I track my car and there for it will never see boost. Why? because under boost I would most certainly see reduced life out of the engine. Additionally, now I have to manage more heat. Straight line racing and circuit racing are two completely different animals and one puts more stress for longer duration on the engine. Take a guess which one?

    Some folks think if you want a FI SC get the 2020 GT500. Sure the MSRP will be $80K MSRP and dealers will be adding another $20K ADM thus $100K for the GT500 that has 750HP. Meanwhile, the GT350 can be had for $65K and if you install a good SC plus labor will cost you $10K thus $75K for a car that will have from 700 to 800HP.

    My only thing is that if you do blow up a gt 350 engine it is $23,000 for a new one. I know this because I know a tech that had to replace one under warranty after the oil pressure bottomed out. So I’d rather risk a coyote engine and have the money left over to buy three more for one voodoo engine.

    Hey brother Great your stuff. question why is it that the GT 350 even when super charged or Pro Charger it doesn't produce equal amounts of torque it's always low

    • @MStrange88
      @MStrange88 3 роки тому +1

      Short answer: uses a flat plane crack instead of a cross plane crank. It revs to the moon bc of its single side weighted crank so peak horsepower will naturally be much higher than peak torque. All combustion motors have equal HP and torque at 5252rpms. Torque is always higher than horsepower until that 5252rpm intersection. So vehicles that redline before 5252rpm will always have more torque than hp (Diesels that redline at 4K will have 800 torque and 450 hp). My cbr1000 makes 185rwhp but only 89 lb/ft but it redlines past 13k rpm.

    • @zenithskull
      @zenithskull 2 роки тому +1

      @@MStrange88 redline can be way over 5250 and still make more trq than hp. Dynos rate highest trq anywhere on the graph, so it could be 700rw at 7000rpms and but max 800rwtq at 4500. Still makes more torque than hp.
