      Well, if you don't compete as a serious hobby, keeping a GT stock is the best way to stay relatively cheap, very reliable, and more than fast enough.

      I personally wouldn't want to go cheap but I believe in best bang for your buck. Rather it be a cheap or expensive. I would want to know that everything is reliable and I would always look into reviews. Since I'm still currently under warranty unfortunately, I have to deal with Ford Performance to keep my warranty in tact. I currently have the power pack 3 on my GT and I'm ready to upgrade to the power pack 3 which in my opinion isn't cheap at all because the only difference is getting a GT350 intake manifold and a calibration tune that increases the rev limiter from 7350 to 7500.
      I want to do the E85 tune so bad and eventually go with a super charger. I currently just have a Corsa Extreme Catback exhaust, GT350 throttle 87 mm throttle body with adaper plate, and a GT350 cold air intake 🥺
      I'm better than stock but I'm far from what I really want.

    Your comment on millennial's is very accurate. Their mindset is even seen in their videos. Where as you give a lot of content, they will fill up the video with getting up in the morning, eating a danish, driving around, keeping it real with their peeps, and technical content is lacking.😑

      Yeah totally! They go out, they're not mechanically inclined so they go to a shop or a dealer and say "sell me a racecar". They buy, not build. And it's almost always an auto car too! Totally ridiculous. Like, hey lazy millennials, you know back in my day we used to build race cars. They take their fruity colored store bought race car to a track, put their foot to the ground and drive home to their parents house afterwards. And don't even get me started on the fucking avocado toast.

    He is right about the parts, I did my coyote swap back in 2012 and a lot of the newer nicer stuff wasn't avalible, so I went with what existed at the time. Five years later I have changed the k member and the trans cross member. I got my 96 mystic cobra off craigslist for 9500 and did the swap. I did all the work myself minus the tuning and the welding. I love my car it goes low elevens and I drive it to work everyday. And I don't have a 750 dollar payment everyday.

    Hey Yolo, please do a video explaining the difference between cam lockouts, phasers, and limiters, if there is a difference at all. Also, why do the bigger cams need lockouts. It’s not like the DOHC engines have valve float at high rpm. Or am I wrong? One more thing. Please explain how the performance of bigger cams with lockouts changes. I know that if you lock stock cams, the power under the curve is going to suffer. But would bigger cams overcome that so there’s no downside? Obviously, that’s a pretty generic question because a bigger cam could mean 264 vs 263, and whether or not the application is forced induction. Honestly, I’m thinking more in terms of N/A. Thanks!

    Now I'm saving for a supercharger and all the parts I need to upgrade along with it. Kenne Bell is what I'm thinking at the moment. By the time I have saved up enough, the factory warranty will be out too. Happy days.
    It's still on stock wheels because I'm not going to buy cheap, lose money when I resell and buy the ones I want.

    This is really good video. I know I'm late, but you nailed it. Especially in regards to having patience during your build. Fortunately and unfortunately in California most mods aren't even CARB Certified anyway so I wouldn't even be tempted to put cheap parts on my vehicle, but when I did purchase a new part it was almost annually similar to you H-Pipe, Axel Back, and Tune (Don't tell California about the tune :P). Doubt if I'll run 11s with that though. lol I had to be patient and do research to protect my car as much as I can. I'd rather have a stock car than be carless. Sad many don't understand that.

    You hit the nail right on the head. I've built some badass cars for customers (usually older dudes that who used to work on cars but now a days can't figure out all this computer crap) that's a different story lol. But I always tell them that you get out what you put in and that always rings true. So when I get some young kid that comes in wanting me to put on his trash intake and headers that he got off ebay and he doesn't get the power he was expecting. Even after he installed his spectre cold air intake. That he didn't even put a box on. And the hole for the maf is to big so it sucks in more hot air. Starts bitching I always tell them you remember that part when I told you you get out what you put in. Well yeah this definitely applies. I say the same thing to you want to build a badass car on the cheap go old-school. But a lot of these kids are scared to get their hands dirty.

    I’m a millennial with an auto 16 gt, and fit all the criteria you described in the video. However, I do not buy cheap and shitty parts to save money, rather I have a setup that is mostly parts all recommended by you, for my application. I do not blindly buy parts, I research them first. But frankly, I agree with you. Most individuals my age are precisely how you described and do not under the pay to play aspect of Racing or importance of product research. This is something I’ve noted before, and wish more people’s outlook would change on this subject

  • @christopher3067
    @christopher3067 7 років тому +5

    If it's not a show car and you are just trying to go faster, you don't need to buy the best. Lots of quality products in the middle. Take headers for example, you can spend $1500 on a set of KOOKS or American Racing headers, or you can spend $500-700 on a set of Pacesetter ceramic coated, that last just as long and make the same power. Now that leaves $700+ to get a cold air intake or cat back or a good custom tuner. Do your home work before buying stuff, and then look for deals and coupon codes, free shipping etc to save even more money.

    I had a 2012 mustang gt. I had between 400-430 whp. Although I did a full suspension build. 6 speed auto, 4.10 gears, with the full bolt ons. Most fun to drive car I have ever owned. I was in a good power range. Usable power, that transferred to a good reliable fun to drive car. It was awesome in the mountains of Colorado. Didn’t need more power. As more power would of taken away from what I wanted, and used it for.

    I had a 94 Cobra I bought for $10k, 42k miles super clean and stock. For years I dreamed about modifying it to be like a newer mustang, 6 speed, 400 horsepower, bigger brakes, better everything. So glad I didn't. at 96k miles I ended up trading it in for $9000 for a 2013 GT premium with 24k miles exact color I wanted brembo package with all the factory scoops and even tasteful mods from the previous owner like roush axleback, jlt oil separator, hood struts, barton shifter and K&N drop in filter. The car was $26k so after the 9k plus down payment I paid $11k and took a loan for the $15k. It would have costed me soooo much money to upgrade every category of parts on my 94 to be as good or better than the new car plus all the extra luxuries like LED lights heated seats and mirrors etc, hell the car even looks better and lower mileage. I guess what I am trying to say is, dumping gobs of money into an old mustang for racing is fine, but if you daily drive it, you have to factor in the comfort, look, etc of a car you plan on living with everyday. Be smart with your money, because modding that old car while still having plans to upgrade to a new one is going to be harder and more wasteful than just saving it towards the new one.

    There is a lot of truth to this, which is why I'm into Gen 1 SBC. You have to establish what your goals are, going fast vs nav late model (non squeaky) interior etc. while being sane (ish) about what your budget is. I'd rather have speed parts than a late model vehicle. The two other thoughts I'll give is sweat equity can go a long way if you're smart in the case of an older car and disciplined yet careful buying also make a big difference; Cheap and high value are two different things entirely.

People don’t understand how finance works and then when they mess themselves up with payments, they start complaining about their car breaking, not being as fast as it could be, and just not being what they want. Either save longer and only buy when you can legitimately afford it or just buy something you can actually afford and then you can budget for the good shit

    Hey Alex I have a 2013 auto mustang 5.0 and ever since i went cobra jet intake with throttle body and Ford performance could air the car sometimes stalls at low speeds. Not at idle but when coming to a stop light. I had a monoblade it did it but then I went twin 65mm it still does it sometimes. I had a bama tune and now it is HP tuned. I live in Utah at almost 5,000 ft. I went back home to Cali and it for a month the car seemed great but then my water pump went out and the stalling came back. Maybe you have come across this let me know? The car has 68,000 miles. I think it is a crankshaft sensor but I've heard the install is a pain.

    The question you should asked yourself when u see a newer mustang running good times is -
    Do I want a new car?
    do I want a runner?
    If u want the new car and have no problem with car payments, the cheapest thing you can do is the driver mod.
    If you want the runner, you can get into something reasonably quick, reliable, and still look good for under 10k. How far under 10k depends on where u looking, a little luck and having the cash at the right time.

Well, you kind of spent the wad on the new model and are now stuck with the payments. Could have bought a 2013-2014 for around mid 20k, add 10k in mods and be way above in performance what your base model 2017 GT is. Been around this car thing from when the Fox platform was starting to become a thing. Even back then, the kind of stuff people were doing on the cheap was comical if anything. Bottom line I learned is do NOT USE CHEAP CRAP. Back then, MAC off roads were the thing to get. Why, because CHEAP. Then one year later it's a rusted out POS. Plan a little bit on what you want to get out of your car. Have a vision and work towards it. You'll be much happier with the end result and not left with a bunch of unwanted cheap parts left over that you'll lose your butt on trying to get rid of. Great video Alex. Vatozone, LMFAO!!!!

      Yeah, plus if you are daily driving the car that you are trying to use at the track, when it inevitably breaks down, you likely have no transportation as you've spent it all on that vehicle.

    What track did you used to run at in your first mustangs. I started with a 88 notch then got a 87gt. I have been to New England Dragway and Lebanon. Just wondering where you used to go.

    My mom co-sign my 98 gt Mustang....lol. My payment was $450 a month. That’s was back in 1999. But the price was cheap then. The price has gone up. I bought a brand new 2007 gt premium that’s was 32k, I just bought a 2017 gt cs premium at 44k. I also had a 89 gt. And parts for that were so cheap compared to now. I could get upper lower intake, heads and cam for 1300-2000k. Some headers for the S550 are 2k alone.

    Hey Alex I have a question, I drive a 2016 F150 with a Roush supercharger. I was wondering if you can suggest any ideas to make more power out of the truck reliably; say maybe cams, full exhaust or swapping pulleys. Any info would be appreciated thanks!

  • @A4Eaton

    Not sure why you called out AirAid on their intake. I went 96 mph in the 1/8th in my old 5.0 when it was x pipe/AirAid/Lund tune. Worked pretty well for me, not sure what anyone else did wrong.

    Alex, would like to get a paxton 2200 centri supercharger on my 2016 mustang gt, thinking about running 3.6" pulley on 93 tune, could u give me more suggestions on this? what is the most reliable boost i can run on the stock coyote engine? do i need to upgrade OPG and crank sprocket or the stock is fine? i am currently running ported 18 manifold, ARH catted header with h pipe, roush axle back, is it necessary to change my current catback setup to full 3" catback for the benefit of boost? please advise. thanks

    Would have loved to Coyote swap my 93 notch...but the hp to dollar ratio pushed me towards a turbo LS. Literally built a 5.3 and boosted it for the price of admission into the Coyote club.

    I saved 10,000 bought a used low mile 13gt with a $235 a month payment. Two years later it has a MPR built bottom end VMP stage 3 making 650rwhp. No it's not the new S550 but it's a lot of fun and a cheap monthly payment that allows me to still be able to save money.

  • @aaronallen124
    @aaronallen124 7 років тому

    Smart way to go cheap is to buy used quality parts. Yes you have to wait but it's worth it. I bought some JBA long tube headers with X pipe and stainless over axle pipes for $400. Now I'll heat wrap them and paint the heat wrap for added protection from water. Plus it'll keep the exhaust more consistent all the way back.

  • @salzero1
    @salzero1 6 років тому

    Preach it brotha! Mofos talking shit online calling us dumbasses for spending $1400 on headers when they got ebay headers for $300 that do the same shit. These companies spend big money on research and development on there products to squeeze every bit of performance out of it. And the welds holds up and the materials are top notch. If ya can't pay then don't play.

    What makes the fox body a better platform than the sn-95? If we're considering 90s cars what are the best platforms during that era? Vette, Camaro, 300Z, 3000GT...? I'd rather just stick with domestic.

    • @andrestnt

    Alex makes good points, but there’s a difference between frugal and cheap. Buying used parts and lower priced parts can get you the hp for less. Lower priced isn’t eBay knock off headers, I mean like BBK headers instead of stainless works stuff.
