I don't think I've ever had somebody accuse me of counting when I am wonging, but I've had plenty of people complain that I'm "messing up the flow of the cards" by jumping in and out.
So many idiots freak out that ur messing with their genius understanding of the flow of the cards, its shocking how many idiots are out there. They almost at every table

Not really. I wouldn’t trust just some random player to identify a card counter, and for every card counter with a 1% advantage, there are dozens of fools with a 2-4% disadvantage. Casinos would want to make sure he is a card counter
The majority of self-proclaimed "card counters" can't even play basic strategy properly and consistently lose money. That's actually a good thing. Those bad players provide cover for profitable card counters.
@@ParadigmUnkn0wn Thats why i dont understand why casinos have such a problem with legit counters for every real counter they get theres probably 100 suckers who bought a book in the hotel lobby and think their pros after the first chapter.

There's a professional player named "ZenKinG" that implements a 100% Wonng/back count strategy. You should interview him for one of these videos.
I know ZK. I play the same way. He hit some pretty bad variance his first year out West. I think it's exasperated by the fact that so many less hands are being played. So bad variance seems worse when you're back counting because you're dreading the long wait for the next advantage shoe. I spent most of this year over $6,300 in the red because of it. Combine that with my recreational playing hours and it's diapers and a binky for me ☺
You omitted a significant advantage. It eliminates the need for massive spreading.
i got away aggressively back counting at a place for 17 hrs at the tables over 3 days by doing this. rarely min betting was super helpful because my bets looked more consistent
Had a guy betting behind me in the eighties, had no idea what he was doing and now you’ve cleared that up. Thank you.
I used the Jady Davis system at that time and it was very profitable too.
Love when bja posts new content! It’s always an instant click! When do we get some more live footage of you crushing casinos?? And when’s the book!? Lol
Not sure about live footage... that's tricky, legally. Book should drop by July at the latest.
Backing counting worked great for me, was Wonging it before it was called that. I was playing that technique before it was called that. I used the advanced point system by L.Revere and has worked out great for me. But now after team play, with BP routines and over 40 years of playing, I’m back to lone wolfing it. So I’ve progressed to higher limit tables where no mid shoe entry is allowed. Still do well but I do play lots of negative shoes with many negative variations, which by the way other players think I’m an idiot, go cover I guess. I never stay more than an hour at a casino, move around a lot, and always have a fake drink in my hand. Works for me!
Why would anyone “thumbs down” this?
Great video Colin! Wonging/backcounting is an art unto itself. Always know which tables are about to shuffle, then if your count drops you don’t waste time looking for a table
Absolutely true.
@@Blackjackapprenticeship If I left a table and want to find a new table to backcount, don't I just glance at the discard pile and see which table has gone through more than half the decks? Trying to keep track of other tables while doing AP at another table seem a) hard (at least for me) and b) likely to risk making errors at the table you are playing.
I would think most "card counters" don't even know or play accurate basic strategy. In order to keep your 1% to 1.2% edge, you must play perfect strategy. Every basic strategy mistake you make costs you money even with a bad count. That $5 bet you lost could be the difference between going home early with no bankroll, or starting a run.

Btw I use this strategy all the time too. 😂
@@24kbam I often use bathroom breaks to dodge negative counts. Usually, once I leave the table, I don't play until a new shoe starts, though sometimes i'll come back and play basic strategy on the last hand or two at a minimum bet (that's strictly for cover)
Great explanation as usual.. Keep it up guys!!
I love this, thank so much for making nice resources :o
This seems like the best play strategy to me. No ratcheting up or 10x'ing your bets. Drop in and play the MAX. When count turns, leave.
Rinse and repeat.
Seems like you would still spend the same amount of time, just play a lot less, but you essentially only play in a good count and at MAX bets
and variance will likely slaughter your bankroll while you look conspicuous as hell
It would be extremely stressful to play all hands like that, but if you have the mental strength then great!
I did that all the time on busy nights when I was counting cards. In the movie 21, when they would call in the "BP" would be when I would sit in. I wouldn't jump in until the TC was +3 or higher because I didn't want to jump in for just a hand or two. I bet big, so I wanted a good count before I started. The higher the table limit, the higher I wanted the count to be.
I was never backed off in the just over 3 years I was playing blackjack in Vegas.

At the casino I work at we usually don't care if someone's counting cards because its not giving the player a significant edge only if the person is truly skilled at counting, but if someone is winning more than they are losing while playing musical chairs sitting out hands and leaving and coming back, there is immediate suspicion, and then someone will be tasked with watching the player and if they are sitting out hands and waiting and watching the table, it won't go unnoticed, and this is when someone will approach you with the intention to distract you, if that doesn't work, I've even heard stories of inspectors knocking the shoe off the table 'by accident' when the count is high
the casino here has my 2500 euros from when i was young. now 20 years later im on for revenge and willing to take the chance to get them back, but one thing is sure, im going to lose it again. hahaha. my idea is simple, 50 bucks each month. just 2:1 winning 5 times in a row. its going to hurt allot haha
Indeed, a good reason not to wong in and wong out is that the "rent" is WELL worth it for the cover.
I have no intention of going to a casino, maybe ever, but I find all this stuff fascinating and I keep watching more videos xD
I don’t play blackjack, but this is fascinating to listen to.
Any tips on what true count to have to bet two hands? Is betting with two hands at a time something you would recommend when there is more than one person at the table?

I don't know where you're playing. I had every deterrent a card counter could face thrown at me and that was 35 years ago. Shuffling up, told I had to bet the same amount every hand, kicked out of Binion's for playing $1 to $25(while the guy next to me was betting & losing $100 per hand) at a 1-deck pitch game, etc. You're right, Vegas DOESN'T want winners. I got the evil eye 5 minutes after I sat down at the Golden Nugget while playing $3 per hand. The final straw for me was in 2017 at Binion's when I noticed they were only paying 6:5 on Blackjack. I don't know why anyone even plays anymore. Additionally, I tried backcounting once and jumped in when the count was great. I was told I couldn't do that and would have to wait for a new shoe. Also, I tried sitting out hands while the count was negative and was told I couldn't do that either. Like I said, I don't know where you're playing. But Vegas casinos were shutting down my "moves" 35 years ago. So I don't know how they allow you to make these various moves.
When i was 22 i was at the New Orleans casino in Vegas (off strip) and i was playing blackjack. At the time o was gambling as i had heard of counting cards but at the the time i didnt know how to (at speed required in a live casino) and i didnt know about True Count and i didnt know basic strategy (though its basically all just logic so ive never really been BAD at blackjack perse)
Anyway the table had me and 4 others and the guy next to me was counting but he wasnt obvious (to me) because i obly found out when the guy on the other side of the counter complained to the pit boss that the guy next to me was counting. He said "hey its not fair that hes only betting when the count is high" the guy next to me gave him and the pit boss a kinda puzzled look. The pitboss then turned to the complainer and said "how do you know the count is high? You must be counting so we no longer want your action." And backed HIM off.
Turns out the guy next to me WAS counting as about 40 min later HE was backed off as well
I had a funny experience recently where I just made a habit of getting up and down from the beginning of the shoe to check my phone because I had a friend a couple tables down that was backcounting and texting me his running count every 10 minutes or so and I was texting him back to give us both a consistent excuse to stand away from the table during negative counts and the table had 6 of the 7 spots full.
When (SPEED COUNTING) in BJ.... When is it best to start increasing units? i.e +1, +2, +3 etc... and when to Wong out?
I just got done reading, “The Blackjack Life” by Nathaniel Tilton and he explained in detail and how he and his partner did this and would actually back count 2 tables at a time before joining in. They’d actually wait for a True 3 count with 3 decks remaining, (3 to3 Rule), before even considering to play. Pretty amazing stuff. My biggest problem is that I’m usually too short and the high tables keep me from being able to do that as easily is most casinos.
Thanks again guys! Love watching these videos every week! Blessings!
They also employed playing straight shoes, among other strategies. Why would there be negative deviations of it wasn't a viable strategy? Since your biggest risk comes with high counts and big bets, not at negative counts, betting the minimum.
That is unfortunate for you I’m sorry! I’ve never heard of anything physical like being short actually being a disadvantage like it is for you in this situation.
Leaving at anytime doesn’t seem weird or hard to pull off, but how do you pull off hovering behind and counting? Unless you have super vision it seems like you’d have to be pretty close and consistent to count down a table you’re not playing at. Would love some tips on that
@stuff happens Busy casinos means slower rounds, though. And if lots of people are waiting to play, that makes it harder to jump in
Be really sharp and have your readers on
At one of the casinos I occasionally go to (because it is like 3 hours away), their tables have two bet places behind where others can bet on YOUR hand and you can bet on theirs. You can bet as many places as people are playing. It never even occurred to me until now that this is the perfect situation to back count and wong because many of the people don't even play their own hand (unless the table was full with people sitting down). They just stand there and watch and then place their bets. Duh, me!
Can't wait to try out and join the next team!
One time I was playing at the tables (I'm not an ap yet but getting some practice) and to wing out I was just watching the hockey game on the tv sitting at the table oblivious but wasnt betting still catching the cards that seemed to be effective
Reminds me of me playing with the family, people want to you to bid more when you don't have a good hand,to bluff and lose a lot of money .but realistic people see when they have a good hand and play it and not waste money
Hi Colin,Do You recommend in video start playing blackjack wonging when true count is minimum +1.5 TC , what do You think, it will be better start playing wonging at + 3 TC ? thanks
Hi Colin, thanks for all the amazing info. Is it absolutely required to back count at the very start of a shoe? Or is it true that whatever cards are in the discard tray are unseen cards, and it is not any more or less likely that those discarded are T-A or 2-6, and therefore it doesn't matter?
It would be just as if those discarded cards are behind the cut card. You're just making the game worse for yourself.
Grinding the BJA App has taught me alone how valuable wonging can be 😅😄
I used this knowledge to go count cards at my local casino. Now I'm broke and homeless.
Still on UA-cam though huh? Lol
Did you piss all of the other players off by jumping in and out during the chute? If so than you're a Winner!!?
Count counting does not work well anymore because of the multiple deck games and deck penetration.
If you play in a four deck shoe or less, you stand a chance of winning with card counting.
@@cobrasnake7845 you said penetration *beavis and butt head voice*

does wonging raise suspicion with pit and surveillance? I assume if you decide to wong, your ev will be better, can you use a more aggressive bet spread when wonging?
How many hands do you increase If the true count is in your favor and you are playing heads up? If you are playing heads up don't you want more hands when the count is in your favor?
Wong term profits
I don't know how closely surveillance is watching, but I do know that I've identified other counters based on their incredible timing Wonging into a shoe just as the count jumps. It might look random to most, but if you're keeping the count it becomes obvious really quickly.
Whats your opinion on double deck pitch?
It's takes many tables and a lot of counting to get that true 1 then you have to sit down fast before someone else does , but I like it and try to play that way it does take patience.
So with how many people should you be playing? At least 2? 3?
I’ll admit that I’ve made money card counting. The ups & downs are difficult for me. I won a couple thousand and then had a losing streak of 7 straight. Then won two of the next three. Up and down. The first two months I’ve been at it. I put in 244 hours. I’m in the positive $3,560. Only started with $2200.
Can you start back counting when the table is halfway through a shoe?
Have you ever been in a situation where you're back counting and the count gets really high BUT you can't play because the table is full? In a situation like this, would you consider sizing up the different players and determine who's able to make correct playing decisions and bet behind that person, or would you never trust a stranger with your money? I hate to waste a good count so I do this sometimes. Yes, the random person unaware of the count doesn't get the benefit of playing deviations but it's better than nothing. I don't make huge bets when doing this either; just table minimum. And I only do it if the true count is +3 or greater.
How do you circumvent "No mid shoe entry"? Do you play one hand to qualify for the shoe and just wait?
What do you do if it’s a new shoe and things turn really negative fast?
wonging keeps low r.o.r and SD, makes better score to the games and u get faster to the long run
Hi Colin! I’ve just started blackjack and I wanna learn basic strategy!
I checked your basic strategy chart which is very clear so thank you but there is an other version of basic strategy and it is almost similar but for exemple when you have A-8 and the dealer has 6 (up card) you say "double if allowed" but on others basic strategy it says "stand"( for all A-8)
( it is the chart from "blackjackclassroom"
I just wanted to know what basic strategy should I learn !
Thank u so much for your videos really you have the best content about black jack on UA-cam !
The difference you are seeing is the Stand 17 rule. When the dealer has to stay on any '17' hard or soft. In a game where the dealer HITS Soft 17, you would double your A8 vs 6.
Different rules of blackjack have different basic strategy.
@@smhollanshead Correct. Basic strategy also changes slightly depending on the number of decks. With four decks or more, it stays the same, but two deck has a few plays (doubles and splits) that are different from six deck with the same rules, and there are quite a few differences between single deck and two deck basic strategies.
In an effort to appear more like a gambler I tend to wong out of games more than in. Wait for that true -1 then hit the restroom or fake a phone call. Looks more natural than constantly jumping in and out of games.
But if you leave the table, you have to wait for the next shoe then, don't you?
Back counting works best if you have a pit with lots of tables, most of which have an empty seat or two. Then when one table goes negative, you just look for a table with an open seat that's just starting a new shoe and watch it.A lot of casinos don't open new table until the ones currently open are full. In that case you may be better off locking up a seat and wonging out, leaving your chips on the table to hold your seat while you take a bathroom break or make or take that important phone call.
Do you stand in the background and back count or do you sit down? I find just standing there makes everyone nervous. Players look at you, the dealer looks at you, etc.
Even better with a team rotating tables, texting true counts
I have run all the sims on this and hand for hand it is probably twice as profitable as playing all. By switching to more promising tables after the shuffle you can also actually get more money down in good counts.
The biggest problem is it both looks odd as hell plus the regular players hate it. Like the last thing you ever want is to be counting cards anyway, then the very first thing you wind up doing is raising casino suspicion plus pissing off the table possibly leading to complaints to the pit and dealer.
Only time I ever did this is in a semi-crowded casino with many tables but most half to 2/3 full.
The one benefit is that you can do this without using a bet spread so some casinos won't bust you ever for counting.
Wonging out is always a good plan though.
I don’t understand how do you know what’s already come out if there’s 2 decks out there?
I was wondering, if you change of table how do you keep the count of the new table? Do you just wait until a new deck is on the table?
@Viktor Blomstergren stop giving incorrect info. That is not remotely what a true count is.
Is standing behind the table for any length of time even allowed ? I seen someone being told to move along last night....
That sounds hard. Dealers and Pit bosses will spot us??
Sounds good, but It's often hard to find a seat at the table to Wong in and out of..
Love a good Wong
When the value get +, you are more likely to get a high cards right? The dealer also has higher chance of getting high cards.
Mate ur exactly right, BUT the dealer doesn't get 3 to 2 on BJ has to hit to 17 and can't double, split or Insure (at certain times). So ur advantage is small, but it's an advantage all the same and when ur turning over a decent amount of dollars per hour it's good money! I once was told in BJ you've got to work really hard for easy money! Cheers from down under Melbourne Australia.
I ussually start looking my mobilephone when the count is negative. Is that a good way to avoid negative counts?
Sure
@MrCanela1000 I'm a little late, but it's true that basically every casino in the world won't let you take out your phone at the table. But if you aren't playing the next hand anyway, just stand up and move behind your chair so you aren't "at the table". Just feign like you felt it vibrate and you check your messages while you're standing up, and then sit back down when you're finished "responding" to them
@@tmtmtlsml but don’t lose your eyes on counting 🥰

Hey Colin, i really enjoy your videos, thank you so much. I have 1 question: when do i start backcounting? Do i need to wait for the first card of a new deck/shoe? Starting the count mid-shoe kinda makes no sense to me, or is there any other explanation? Thanks
Azlann forsure don’t start counting mid shoe. That is equivalent of having really bad deck penetration. You might start counting when the true count is -3 and then when you think the TC is +2 you start increasing your bet but in reality the count is -1. Always start your count from the 1st card in the shoe no matter if you are back counting or at the table
@@derekmoore295 ok thank you very much!
@@5kYd I disagree with Derek here. It's completely fine to start counting midshoe, the only difference is that when calculating the true count, you need to take the cards still in the shoe _and_ the cards that you missed before you started counting into account.
Derek's logic here is inaccurate because even though you could be joining at a true -3, it's just as likely that you are joining on a true +3, and the effects of those counts cancel perfectly.
@@danielyuan9862 this is not true
Doing this got me backed off quickly after a couple of hours (it took that long to notice because of a crowded table / casino). It may still work with 6 or 8 deck games but casinos watch double deck and 4 deck shoes very closely. Plus a lot of casinos have gotten smarter and started banning players from midshoe entry or not playing every hand. So in a lot of cases it simply isnt possible to avoid playing through negative counts
Can you just walk up to a table and start counting at any point. Or do you wait for the cut card or a shuffle?
You want to start at a new shoe, either by sitting down and playing and counting or by watching away from the table and sitting down when the count is favorable.
Your my hero haha
I feel like a guy going "He only bets when the counts are good" Either that guy making the claim is counting or bsing. More likely bsing. So I can see pit bosses not caring over claims like that.
Why can't you use being down to your advantage? For instance if you've got a 16 and you're down 5 or 6. Wouldn't that make it more advantageous to hit?
It seems to me that this technique would work especially well with a team. Six or eight "counters" at different tables, one or two "whales," throwing down big bets at the various tables.
sounds good to me :P

Colin how do you invest your winnings?
I re-invested into blackjack for years, then started putting my money into real estate.
I have been at a lot of tables where people get really upset a out people coming in because they think it messes up the flow of the deck. Do you have that problem? Doea it concern you
Yes, but it doesn't concern me.
I get more heat from players than the pit because of it. It's a delicate balance for me because I depend on them to get the low cards out, but I need the table clear when I do come in. Sometimes I get lucky and a bunch of players will tap out right when the shoe turns, and leave. Those are the nights I spit blue flames out of my butt.
I don't know of a single place in Vegas you can wong in and wong out, in the middle of a shoe. You can only wong in at the start of a shoe and if you wong out, you are out until the next shoe.
The problem with back counting and Wonging in is that if you're only playing hands at a TC of +2 or higher, you're only playing 20% of the hands dealt. Pit bosses catch on to this quickly if you're standing and watching and just jumping in now and then. I find it's better to Wong out when the count goes negative by taking frequent bathroom breaks. It draws much less attention.
@Dementia Joe I use the "bathroom break" wong out sometimes, and what I usually do is simply stay out until the start of the next shoe. Once the count gets to -1 true or less, it's fairly unusual for that shoe to get to an advantageous count . So, you generally don't miss many opportunities using that stratege. Also, by wonging out, you get a bit of and edge, or at least reduce the house edge, on shoes with a lot of big cards at the top.
Don't they have computers constantly keeping up with the count and could figure out you only sit down when the count is positive?
done.
how do you pick up the running count in the middle of a shoe or is that even possible? do you have to start in the beginning?
You wait for a new shoe🤘🏽 you jumping in in the middle and not knowing what half the shoe is is the same as playing on a game where they put the cut card right in the middle of the shoe. It’s not worth the play
What’s the discord link that you mentioned?
I thought you were going to say the pit boss 86'd the complaining guy who snitched on you; "hey you must be the one counting cards, otherwise how would you know what the count is." I've seem some tables in Las Vegas which have a sign that says, "No entering game mid-shoe." (or something like that). Anti Wonging policy?
It seems less suspicious to watch the table for a few minutes and then sit down and bet $300
Rather than bet $10 for a few minutes and switch to $300
Just learned all this, but can’t find a casino that is not using a csm. They put all the cards back in the shuffle machine after every round. Anyone knows a place in the Netherlands where they dont do this?
The guy who called the pit boss tho haha
Easier to do if you are tall!
Hi Colin, I have a question. In order to back count, do you need to be there from the start after the table reset? Isn't it impossible to know the count of the table in the middle of a game and when cards have already been discarded?
Hey, I'm not a card counter, but I think I know enough of the math to answer this.
You don't have to be there from the start. But you'll have to imagine all cards that were discarded before you started counting to still be in the shoe. This effectively means that your true count is lower than it would be.
@@WilcoVerhoef Yes. Also, you are effectively getting poorer penetration when you miss cards at the start. So there is a cost to missing the start of the shoe, but if you are missing just the first hand or two, it still might be worth counting from there, as long as you adjust your true count appropriately.
@@russlehman2070 I been Wonging for a while now, if the table is at least a deck in don't bother. In my opinion the count won't be accurate enough to be anything but a gamble

I don't play any card games in the casino because I've seen them take the card under the top one and give you it otherwise known as cheating. Though I didn't know there was an actual name for Wonging, I do the same thing in roulette. I would track 8 tables or however many they have in a close area to each other then whenever a bet missed a certain amount in a row (stacking the odds) I would bet. And yes after 10 hours of playing nonstop I'm always up, it may not be by a lot but then I go over the numbers I've written down and adjust for next time I go.
Congrats on the luck, but unless you’re detecting manufacturing defects on the wheel, the house edge is what it is (5%?). There is no “stacking the odds” in roulette, i.e., there is no winning strategy where one can expect gains over time. No one can deny your experience (again, congratulations on the winnings) but you have not found a winning strategy for roulette. In other words, the casino “cheated” at the roulette table before you ever got there. And your winnings are all the money lost by the schmucks who thought they had a winning system before you got to the table.
Each is an independent event so what you just did is all luck lmfao
How to find the true count with modern casinos shuffling every 3 -4 hands/rounds? What to do in this scenario?
You don't play games with continuous shufflers they can't be counted
Just out of curiosity, due to the change in value of the shoe. Do you ever alter basic strategy due to the higher chance of getting 10, its less strategit to hit as high as you would with a unknown count.
Yep. I've seen card counters double down on soft 19 or 20 because there's a good chance of getting a 10 and doubling their money.
It has to be a very strong count to make this profitable though, and it's also a huge red-flag to any pit boss who might be watching that you're counting
That’s what’s called a playing deviation.
I wonder how many times he has asked pit bosses what their favorite restaurant is. lol
I would have thought that wonging would be the best all round. Like even the casino would not get onto you as quick as you are not changing the bet.
How is count of 4 divided by 2 decks a true 1 and not a true 2?
You divide the running count by the missing decks / not played decks. Not by the played ones.
@@biscuitkiller2624 thanks
Skyway bowl used to be legit u ever go to eqc,or tulalip, red wind, quinault lol I'm from Tacoma wa
The places that care about you making money only care if they are losing in general. In fact some places like winners just as long as their winning draws in more players.
I play a lot of single and double deck blackjack. I like to wong out in highly negative counts like -3 or worse. I usually have to start at 0 count in those games. When the counts goes positive I rather play 2 hands to get more money out there because it is less risky than 1 hand. Two hands of $60 is less risk than 1 hand of a $120.
Chris Baker exactly
Casinos near me don't let you jump in the middle of a DD game, so you have cough up the rent
@@noskpain2792 Yes but you can leave in the middle at negative counts. Then a new shuffle puts you at 0 count rather be at 0 than negative 5 count.
"No mid shoe entry". That little sign negates the entire video.
It is impossible to Wong / back count nowadays. And if you are allowed to enter in the middle of a shoe most of the casinos will limit your bet to the table minimum.
@@marciohenrique4820 Really, that sucks. Is that just on the first hand (that you have to bet the table minimum)? If you can still vary your bets afterwards it's not that big a deal, but if you're stuck flat betting it's a huge problem.
Not at my casino.
I thought true 3 was the number where you wong in and out at. This must be for double deck tables. There's no way I'll play at a true 1 on a six deck shoe. And 6:20 I like to pretend I'm getting a call or a text, that's what I do when I need to wong out. Also I've discovered that pit bosses don't care about wonging nearly as much as ploppies do. Ploppies will get SO mad if you wong in and out all the time (which is common in six deck shoes).
It depends on the rules
Yea... Or when you haven't even bought in yet and they get a shitty hand.. "oh you're not playing?!" as if they didn't know that 4 seconds earlier. They get so mad. I love that I'm raising their blood pressure by my presence.. true power indeed.
Clever. Does card counting work with a cut deck?
Pull your cell-phone, look distracted, and say, "I'll be back"
Some ting Wong!
