About 10 years ago I had worked a long tiring shift, came home, went upstairs belly flopped onto the bed fully clothed and fell fast asleep. I remember hearing the most amazing music while I was asleep...the music eventually woke me up and I could hear it was coming from outside. I quickly went outside checked the front...not the source...went to the back yard and saw 3 houses down my neighbor was cleaning his car and was blasting 5-5-7 from his car stereo system. I got his attention found out who the musician/band was, bought the Letters From Home CD that very day and have been a PMB fan ever since. My all time favorites being Dream of the Return, Slip Away, 5-5-7. Being interested in PMB fortunately led me to Richard Bono, Steps Ahead, Mike Sterns' These Times CD (Silver Lining, Chatter, These Times). Thanks for the reaction Happy Holidays!

FYI, wordless vocals on a Pat recording starts with Nana Vasconcellos… on the AFWSFWF album…
I saw Nana AND Pedro play together with the PMG at my very first live concert for the group…

Wow, can you feel this music? Love it! Sublime vocals on a rich percussion tapestry shared with energy and story lines from the rest. Can they play though. Feelin good. Thank you Mr Mindset! ❤

Thanks for the excellent feedback and review. This was the PMG in its prime. What an innovative sound. So many talented musicians rolled through the group over the years, but the center was always Pat and Lyle. One of the highlights of my life.

I have been a fan of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays for over 35 years. It has been very fun and rewarding to see your reactions to her music, because I fully identify with your love and joy for her. Greetings from Chile.

I share your opinion. He is the man. In concert it's even better. I've been lucky enough to see it seven or eight times. It always exceeded my expectations. Best regards, love brother. Metheny

Brings back MANY wonderful memories of PMG. Huge fan!
Let’s no forget Lyles May’s. RIP
My family saw PMG on this tour back in the 90s at the Fox Theater in Detroit and I was out of this world. Then we’ve seen Pat many times over the decades. Pat turned 70 Aug 12th!🙌🏽🙌🏽

Milton Nacimiento was I believe the first to bring wordless vocals to the PMG soundscape. Pedro replaced Milton for First Circle and brought the band fully into their “Latin phase” for the next three records. I like to think of Milton as having added color to the music, while Pedro brought full vocal melody and helped make the group something of a pop-crossover success.

@@rodolfu69 Absolutely right, although Pat has collaborated with Nascimento, and, if you know Milton's music, you know that he was also into that kind of vocalization in his music, as well as Toninho Horta, both, in my humble opinion, huge influences on Pat's music on that period of time.

If you notice in all his bands the drummer is always front and center. Where he can see and hear the drummer. Not in the back. He's very picky about his drummers and bassists. He regards having the right drummer as critical to his sound.

    Pat Metheny doesn't need recognition:
He is one of those rare ever-flowing-rivers of Endless Inspiration, a Source of Beauty

As good a Metheny-appreciation video as I've seen on YT. Well done. 👍

David Sanborn. Not Dave Koz. From the late 1980's NBC Sunday night show A Little Night Music. Great show.

I would love for you to review of Robert Conti’s guitar solos such as rendition of yesterday by Paul McCartney or Jobim’s someone to light up my life

On Lyle Mays… Love that guy. His music is amazing. I got to shake his hand and talk briefly, on several occasions after concerts. I remember shaking his hand. His hands were like delicate spider hands. I had to think to myself - don’t crush this hand, don’t crush his hand…😄

Have you Heard I’d from Letter from Home. That IS Pedro Aznar. The intervening album, Still life Talking has D. Blamires and M Ledford. And later Richard Bona, not “Baba”🙄

Way before, Pat got ( maybe...) harmonic infuence from Brazilian🇧🇷 great guitar composers from the Minas Geraes state ...
