I grew up as a young child listening to these artists.. I even sent JLP an email when I was 8 or so asking for advice as a young musician. He emailed back a long letter of encouragement. I haven't heard these artists in many years and hearing them is bringing tears to my eyes and a flood of energy to my heart. Thank you for this.
See him live
Saw him Buffalo....when I was young w Zappa
How wonderful! I hope you still have the email saved somewhere - precious! And how lovely of JLP to write back.
Jean Luc ponty habitait à Avranches en France , j'habitais à quelques kilomètres. Près ,proche du mont Saint Michel. Bretagne /France ;: monument
A friend Vernon introduced me to this artist jLP. Music in the 80s and I’ve found it Addictive n calming to say the most
The world needs more of this. Stop the anger, hatred, & division for the children's sake, please!
AMEN!
A men
❤❤ 100 percent brother
It feels as if three masters are having intimate conversation through their instruments. and we are outsiders eavesdropping!
Jean- Luc Ponty is so beautiful and melodic. And he meshes rhythmically with Zakir, as well. Outstanding.
Gorgeous rhythm playing by John. So nice.
What a great trio!
Thanks for watching and your kind comment!
Sublime....decades of magic from these guys, listening from the 70s.
@neilfurby555 Wondering if you recollect the Triple vinyl of Mahavishnu
@@Furious-at-Republicans...I certainly do 🎉 seen Jean luc 5 times & Johnny Mac 3 times (1st time at Santa Monica Civic with Ravi Shankar, then in London with Al DiMeola & Paco de Lucia, and also in London with Jack Bruce & Billy Cobham) !
We know John can play fire breathing guitar so it’s such a pleasure to hear him play with such subtlety and restraint.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment!
Indeed!
I really appreciate how these three Master musicians allow patience and Grace to open up the composition and to let it breathe.
Well said!
No better way to say it
BS
...like a fine bottle of wine!
They're OK.
Takes alot of us back to a much better, innocent life.
Да я на этом вырос , только это это было от советcкого ансамбля Арсенал
Yes..........
One of the best records.
I also appreciate all the warm comments here. I’m in such great company.
Deeply healing vibes for a wounded world. Thank you for these blessings.
Thanks for your kind comment!
Amen.
Blessing, performing secular music in a sacred ancient places? it is cursing ,sorry,There is big cross above them,it is cross of the judgment .I love Ponty ,fission jazz but playing in this place ?
@@stevesawin4216 chill
@@stevesawin4216 How awfully judgemental of you to say so. Think it if you choose, but to say it out to the world! Who are you to decide this is cursing? Or to choose where masters of their craft should or should not play music. No deity hung a cross there...or anywhere. Just a person.
John's chords are simple, beautiful, captivating... how many lives could I have and still be able to continue enjoying this composition
😅
That is a Tim e lesson comment, Aaron Riveros ! What to simple, elegant phrasing - and Jean Luc adds sn airy sense of tirelessly floating over John's choral base! Sublime!
Yes, I agree. I listen to it often. This performance is the superlative rendition of “Lotus Feet”.
Most of JLP’s playing on this compositions sounds as if it’s in Indian scales
Birds of Fire...Enigmatic Oceans......and Zakir.........Been listening to these guys for 50 years. Just beyond words. just beyond..........
so have I ... God bless.
No Lakshmi Shankar?
❤❤❤..
Enigmatic oceans
Discovered JLP when I was in high school in 1975. He was my secret listen away from my friends. His album "A Taste of Passion" changed my life and musical taste. His sound is still familiar. Bravo~
I love the way John McLaughlin almost takes a back seat to Jean-Luc and Zakir and allows this tune to grow.
Es gibt keine Zeit … so wunderschön … alles fließt zusammen in diesen einen Moment und steht still … das ist Liebe ♥️
Those chords by John caress my soul ❤
Beautiful
This is what you play when you have achieved a higher plane of existence. Man, I ain't never getting there, John blew me away all the way back in the 70's. I don't even know what comes after 'Genius'.
Thanks for your kind comment! Glad you enjoyed!
@Plymouth Fury III. Amen to that!
Hear ya. Agree. And no clue the word either, but John is there. They all are. Higher plane.
Zakir Hussain is an extraordinary master. His understanding of the musical moment and the immediate implementation are simply incredible!
Agreed!
Agreed as well y,ou got that right. He taught some fine players as well.
Kudos for pointing that out with exactly the right words. I was watching him and trying to find those words but could not.
When Bela Fleck mentions who he looks up to, he always mentions Chic and Zakir. Can't get better than that.
I once saw/heard a tablas player explain and demonstrate the technique of creating the different sounds. The sublties and nuances are breathtaking. The mastery of such inticracies is a wonder to behold. Then you have two hands and several instruments, a veritable symphony of percussive devices. हैरत (Wonderment in Hindi, hairat)
Rather than express admiration that these masters can still make art at this level, I would say that they can only make art at this level after following their lives’ paths to this point. The beauty here is breathtaking.
A lovely sentiment, thanks for watching Martin!
Indeed.
Well said,. It must take a great deal of dedication and discipline, trust, and a whole lot of love and support from the world to remain on the path that they are walking.
Yes. Only possible after decades of evolution and spiritual growth seeing the divine through sonic waves of energy emanating out of the deep well of consciousness
Well said
This music brings me to a place deep inside my heart, a feeling of purity and peace. Oh how our world needs music more than ever to connect to our universe, bring us to compassion and empathy for all of those who struggle just to exist. Thank you masters of a sound so unique, loving, and encompassing passion for all of us to hear. Been a long time since I have felt this way.
Thanks for your kind and thoughtful comment! So pleased that you enjoyed!
How beautifully put. Thanks sister travellor
Beautifully said, thanks 🙏
I really agree, Diane, wonderful and inspiring !!
Wonderful to see these guys. They've been playing together for nearly 40 years when this was made and it shows.
Love hearing Jean Luc Ponty with John McLaughlin again!
So glad you enjoyed, Sebastian!
Me too
Make that 55 years!
And Zakir Hussain?
3 GENIUSES!!!!!!!!...
ON ALL TIMES
!!!! Forever!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹💞💞💞💞💞👋👋👋👋👋❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So happy to see these two giants playing together again. Never got to see John, but the times I saw Jean-Luc in the 70s were some of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds. Once, maybe in 1977, I saw Ponty at a small venue with a revolving stage near Chicago, and then Stanley Clarke at the same venue one week later. It was truly a magical time.
Three giants
I was probably at that same show - it was the Mill Run theater at the Golf Mill shopping center in Niles.
I saw Roy Buchanan there a few months later.
@@herculesrockefeller8969
Yeah, man, that was it!
Saw him in Sacramento CA. Four standing ovations later he walked out to the mic and said " GOOD NIGHT". Forever etched in my mind.
John holds the center as calmly and gracefully as the flight of a Great Blue Heron through rain.....amazing!
What a lovely sentiment!
I salute this poetry.
No podría escuchar una mejor frase sobre lo que estaba sintiendo al fondo de todo,
Lotus Feet combines the essence of amazing Performers combining most respectfully, providing the elements of tact, extraordinary craftsmanship to new limits, unhurried, but accentuating its dramatic effects of punctuation, complexity, and interchanges leaving us to feel such a composition like a texture of Musical wonder!
This just bought me back in time to the Mahavishnu Orchestra Days. McLaughlin, and Luc Ponty the perfect stringed pair.
We waited a long time for this. Jean-Lic and John were a remarkable pairing. They should have never fallen out, and remained playing together all these decades.
@@ValueAudio They never really fell out. Jean-Luc went to one of the gigs on the next Mahavishnu tour (a co-headliner with Jeff Beck) and he said that he was "happy to see the band". John just went his way and Jean-Luc went his.
I saw them together in 1974, about 9 months after they had released Apocalypse.
@@stevemurray9925 WOW Where was this and what do you remember
@@marksupeotmail.co.ukrbrain2564 Manchester Free Trade Hall. TBH I took some acid about an hour before the gig so memories are sketchy lol. I remembering John abandoning his guitar at one point and just playing claves whilst Luc Ponty was playing a solo. I remember Ralph Armstrong playing The Sailors Hornpipe on the bass at some speed and John saying 'What a grand cadenza from Ralph'.
They were touring with Visions of the Emerald Beyond although that hadn't been released yet. They played through Apocalypse. That's all I remember. It was 50 years ago nearly!
My musical appreciation over the decades has been shaped by jazz improvisation and these three hugely talented musicians demonstrate why it has such an enduring appeal to so many.
Amazing - still playing profoundly beautifully after over 45 years.
If i would beb my hymn i say good Work🌙🇷🇺♦️🇷🇺🚶🏃👌
The smiles shared between each other throughout, says it all.
This is a song I enjoy after my Sunday evening NA meeting as it puts a finishing touch on another good week above ground.
Good for you Chuck - stay.in your recovery; you deserve happiness every day. May God bless you
Well done Chuck
I was fortunate enough to have seen both Jean and John in the late 70s play at the Greek theater in LA. John was almost violent the way he would play his guitar and Jean as always put me in a different world with his smooth play.
Absolutely amazing!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Jean-luc Ponty was my first concert ever. ❤ Amazing to see and hear him again!
I haven’t heard Jean-Luc Ponty since I bought his cds in the 1990s. This is an awesome video!
Music was great back then! remember Tower Records? Jean-Luc played a lot in San Diego.
For me the vinyl.
Three absolute masters at play. I love how Zak stays focused on the arc of the soloist...
So glad you enjoyed!
To have been there to experience this…. No words for this. You see the eyes communicating wordlessly where the musicians are going, what they are feeling. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching!
I can't be thankful enough that I saw live these three (if not at the same time) in my country. God bless them for being and playing.
Infinite Life.
Infinite music of Life.
I bow to your
Lotus feet.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment, Fernando!
Seeing these great musicians playing like this again is wonderful. I saw them almost 50 years ago in Germany and was blown away back then. Their music now is like a deliciously matured wine. Zakir Hussein is a class act and blends in perfectly.
I had the privilege of seeing John McLaughlin way back in circa 1974 in Milwaukee Wi. Awesome
Oh wow! I grew up on Mahavishnu Orchestra, so glad they're playing still.
My goodness. With all due respect, this is a far cry from the Mahavishnu I grew up with.
@@NapoleonSolo452 I was referring mainly about John as I didn't know he was even alive!
I love these musicians! They speak to my heart.
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment!
About 200 years together of music wisdom, knowledge and talent can make you play like this. Masters at work. Sublime.
Couldn't agree more!
What an absolutely beautiful piece of music by the masterful Jean Luc Ponty and the Grand Master John- massive praise and respect, total honour to listen to this🙏
Beautiful. So happy to see the master musicians still playing and sharing their incredible talents and magic with us.
These guys have given me musical memories and emotions over the past 50 years that you just put a price on. I fear that when they are gone, there won't be anybody to take the proverbial baton.
Glad you enjoyed! Definitely check out some of the other videos on our channel-there are so many amazing young musicians from around the world who are stepping up to the plate.
I had that feeling for a while. Then I heard Hiromi, Joey Alexander and Mohini Dey (not together, though that would be interesting.) There are many more to be discovered that UA-cam will bring to you once the almighty algorithm kicks in:
Algorithm, Algo-music, Al go 'way now, who could ask for anything more!
These great musicians are life expressions. Life will always express thus.
@@thesoundsmith Jonathan Kreisberg and Julian Lage are some
In early 80s, I was fortunate to have attended the concert of Shakti in New Delhi, when fusion was getting big slowly. Zakir and John were there. John in a spotless white Indian kurta-pyjama ensemble, just around the festival of colours Holi, in the month of March. It was like a dream. Great to hear and see them along with bumper bonus of the violine. what a treat.Salutes
How much of an emotion can just 3 notes bring out from a person is incredibly fascinating.
I was wishing John and Zakir would do something together again. It is 2013, but still, close enough, wonderful.
And with one of my other favorite musicians, Jean- Luc!
What a pleasant surprise.
Thank you!
Supreme music by the masters of their respective instruments.
Historical performance 🎭
Check out the album "Is That So?". I believe they still periodically perform with some variation of the Remember Shakti group as well
They are out on tour again in Shakti., In my city. Bela Fleck is opening.
This is so awesome. I could listen to this over and over for hours and hours.
So glad you enjoyed!
Such a lovely song. Just had to groove with some drums on it: enjoy 🪷✌🏻

3 of my favorite musicians all together. Thanks soooo much!
Our pleasure-thanks for watching!
Love these guys since late 70's.. thank you !!!
John McLoughlin and Zakir Hussain have a symbiotic relationship stretching back to 1974. This is a Shakti reunion of sorts, Shakti being the incredible band he formed with violinist Shankar, the Indo-Jazz fusion version of the Mahavishnu Band.
Thanks for watching, Tim, and for sharing this additional context!
I saw JM with Shakti in Cincinnati during the summer of, I think, 1977; dazzling!
@@russellreising4294 I would like to have seen the original Shakti. I did catch the reunion line up in 1999 at the Barbican, but was somewhat disappointed because Shankar was no longer part of the band, and the tonal landscape was completely altered as JM played electric and not his unique custom built veena, which was lost on the 70s, apparently. That veena propelled the original group's sound.
For the most part: it's Sir John McLaughlin at this point. He took the guitar and music about as far as one person possibly could.
I've heard Zakir play with McLaughlin but what a treat to get Ponty as well.
Glad you enjoyed, Donald! We loved having the great Jean-Luc Ponty as part of that year's event.
@@Jazzday - you achieved the impossible which is the greatest achievement of getting back John & Jean-Luc on the same stage. The two have not played together since 1975
The eye contact and smiles make me smile. An incredible performance of incredible music and in an exotic setting. Live music doesn't get much better than this!
So glad you enjoyed!
Never get tired of listening to Jean Luc.......have loved him since the 70's
Memories of youth, that comes like water waves to the soul. God bless them
Beautifully stated ❤
I have been listening to my old master over and over for the last month. Thank you yet again, John.
This is the last thing I hear every night before I fall into gentle slumbers...
I saw you at the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ, in 1970 - Back stage at Carnegie Hall with my friend Al di Meola
For " in San Francisco" and many, many, many more happy shows such as Shukti.
Speechless. JLP Still beyond perfect, first came across him live Dupree's Paradise Zappa
Excellent. Three of my favourite musicians performing together.
I have so many of their albums in so many different configurations.
It's such a treat to see them together. Thanks for posting this.
Es ist toll John und Jean Luc wieder gemeinsam zu hören, plus Zakir H.. Einfach nur großartig.
When I was twenty, I wanted to listen more sophisticated music, so I asked record shop owner which one is good. He recomended Mahavishnu Orchestra Birds on Fire. It gives me a shock. From then I always try to find a impressive jazz pieces. I think Jazz ruls and John rules!
I could listen to Jean-Luc Ponty forever. What wonderful tone, ideas, playing, and inspiration.
This is what peace sounds like............
AMEN!
I think this is the most beautiful musical performance I've ever seen. All such legendary artists, and Mahavishnu John is so deeply spiritual, and they play this incredible song in this ancient city with the stone facade backdrop. LOVED
This song awakes and begins to move as a person does after a long slumber!
Nothing rushed, just stretching and observing the surroundings!
Musicianship and stagecraft, these men have gone past conscious decisions and thoughts!
Thanks for watching!
Splendid! And the brightest is John Mclaughlin's smile at the wonderful interplay of Jean-Luc Ponty and Zakir Hussain (at 5:00).
This real off the planet biblical music, grace and divine peace, in the zone... spiritual and physical balance.... a musicians dream......I can live with this.....
Thanks for your kind comment!

Alhamdulillah for these unique musicians who bring peace and contentment to the hearts and soles of men and women. 💗
This will never get old. THANKS!
I've loved Jean-luc since we were in our 20's, and John McLaughlin NO WORDS! Just beautiful
So beautiful. Music unites us. Music saves us.🙏🏼❤️
And try not to get emotional 7:24
Incredible how these Master Musicians can keep going on, playing at the "top of the world", I have loved this since the beginning ap.40-50 years ago, and it changed my life, and I play the compositions myself. True music 🙏
McLaughlin seems to consistently get his best tone ever with that PRS. My favorite part of his career might be right now.
It almost sounds like piano here or there, if that's what you want from a guitar, I don't think I like it very much but I'm not really into Jazz.
Generally it seems to me that PRS' have a bit of a sterile sound.
But, if I like it or not, I have to admit that this sounds great and impressive here!
(after a while that drone is a bit unpleasant though)
The rapid figures at the end of JLP's solo at around 5:30 reminded me of McLaughlin's old pyrotechnics. I'm sure it's intentional. This video is just an artistic home run: visuals, sound quality and performance. Love to all who made this happen.
This ensemble has enlightened my inner self. I feel empowered to go beyond the horizon as my spirit has been lifted by listening to this piece. I see the light and I can move delicately by the sounds of the Lotus Feet.
Thanks for watching and for these beautiful words, Serina!
Love these musicians of the first hour. Instantly, no doubt, wow 😎✊🏼
I agree. Music without words because it speaks on its own. THANKS!
Very tasteful and superb percussion! Master musicians💚🥰💚
Thanks so much for your kind comment!
This is just wonderful, fascinating from start to finish. So much chemistry among these three great musicians.
John's playing has gotten a lot more subdued in his old age.
Beautiful.
The first concert I ever attended in the early 70s was Elton John he had an outstanding violinist with the name Jean -Luc Ponty.I became an instant fan of both.
These musicians have played decades of great performances. 🖖
Great to see these guys still at it. Been a big fan since the 70's. I would have loved to have been there. The brothers are deep.
I was a teenager when I listened to this piece the first time at the time it was John Mclaughlin and Mahavishnu orchestra, I had this habit of listening to it every night before going to bed and it lasted 3- 4 years.
For me it was the best version .
I agree with you, I think this is the best version. They are in flow
I saw this version when this was actually being Live streamed on Facebook on International Jazz day. It was just a chance that I was online at that time.. I keep coming back to this recording time and again
This is the most I've enjoyed John M in a long time. Subdued.
This is just gorgeous. Magical, even.
oh my god this is sooooo good. so happy i found this
So happy you're here as well!
Oh so so so mesmerizing. What a beautiful fusion of the different form of music.
Thanks for your kind comment!
Awesome combination john is so unique and jean is smooth perfection made for each other super smooth the flow of the music is tremendous 👌
Three of the best musicians over the years! Amazing piece of work and love!
This is so tranquil, and satisfying, all 3of them masters of their art
Thanks!
Stunning. Listened to Zakir live a few times. Promoted a few of his records when i was working for Nimbus Records. This ensemble is truly wonderful.
Three masters , brothers of sound , long time co workers , committed to art and peace - thank you for the space this beauty provides
Glad you enjoyed!

Before seeing Mahavishnu Orchestra 1975..
After seeing Mahavishnu Orchestra 1975..🌹

3 old masters from wayyy back in my day. Excellent.
I love this music it is so complete in and of itself, it transports me into a very peaceful zone❣️
Glad to hear it, and thanks for watching!
The tabla playing is brilliant!
So glad you enjoyed!
Enigmatic oceans of time have passed since I heard from these masters of violin and guitar. Beautiful playing from the trio. Nods of respect from one to another as they went along. Empowering experience.
Thanks for watching!
Love, love, love John McLaughlin, I would never be the same after that late summer day at Wesleyan University in CT. in 1972 when I saw The Mahavishnu Orchestra for the very first time.
A Giant of the guitar!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎼🎶🎵🎸🎵🎶🎼
Glad you enjoyed!
Don't suppose you remember much that you can tell us about?
I never knew John Le Mesurier played electric guitar - and so beautifully.
Listen to mahavishnu orchestra 🎭✨😎
I thought that too.
Ponty is still the same of the frank zappa times, always a great musician!
Glad you enjoyed, Paulo!
Much better
