  • Today we take a look at the Gigabyte RTX4070 Gaming OC 12GB graphics card to see if the internet is right when they say that this is a bad graphics card.
    Now the RTX 40 series line-up has been getting a bad rep for it's price to performance ratio, but when you actually take a look at how good the RTX4070 performs, it is still a really great card and a really great option for people looking to play newer titles and still get great frames.

    I bought mine during a mini-sale and got it at a "slightly-less-ludicrous" price (I refuse to use the term "good price" WRT GPUs these days... they're all still way too expensive, IMO). Anyway: I really like the Gigabyte. Upgraded from the GB 3070 Eagle and the added 4 GB of VRAM alone do make a difference in some games. Of course: The card is also faster overall and did help me quite a bit in VR. My alternative would've been any old RTX 4070 Ti, but since I also wanted to upgrade my PSU to a more powerful and ATX 3.0 compliant one (no need to use the cable-adapter with an ATX 3.0), I went with the 4070 and a bequiet Straight Power 12 750W. My only indulgence was to go for the Gaming OC and not some lower end 4070 from Palit or Galax/KFA.
    The card is pretty damn big for its class, but that means that oversized cooler really has no trouble keeping the temps in check. I managed a manual +125 MHz OC (effectively raising the clock speed to over 2900 MHz) on the GPU and +1000 MHz on the VRAM and even with that, hotspot temp in stress-tests sits at just over 80°C - while gaming temperatures are much, much lower. I also managed an UV/OC to 2670 MHz at 0.95V which dropped power-draw and temps quite a bit. Even with the UV, the card still runs great in Baldur's Gate 3 at 1440p on "High" preset with DLAA enabled.
    The insanely high power-target you can set with this card seems a bit pointless... even with the most ambitious, stable overclock I tried, the card never drew more than 240, 245 W tops - and it constantly runs into Voltage limitations anyway once you get into that territory. I *think* the cooler could handle more, but I suspect that even if you could push the card beyond 240W, the performance gains would be negligible.

    I bought a used EVGA 1080 right in the thick of the whole GPU shortage thing and paid an embarrassing amount of money for it. Fortunately it worked fine for me for as long as I had it in my machine. I upgraded to one of these recently and have no regrets.

    ordered a Gigabyte Aero OC 4070 8 days ago, hopefully will have it tomorrow. I play with white and black in my case, my cpu cooler is white version of shadow rock 3. It will accompany my 5600X with 32gigs of ram. I will replace a GTX780!!! So the performance gain is 400% more or take... I pick this over 4060ti 16gb cause of memory bus 128 bit. I also purchased a p5 plus by crucial nvme ssd for starfield and finally I got a premium sleeved corsair white 12pin cable and a coolermaster ARGB gpu anti-sag holder (the tempered glass one)... A nice upgrade.

    • @Jacqie
      @Jacqie  6 місяців тому

      The OC's are usually slightly better because they come pre overclocked from the factory with a slight boost, the Ti is also better, but I would suggest watching a video perhaps where the compare a non ti to a ti just to see for yourself the difference

    Quick question. There are lots of 4070s, but they all seem to have the same performance. Some are $800 and some $600. I think the ROG is the most expensive one. What exactly is the difference between those 4070s?

    • @Jacqie
      @Jacqie  8 місяців тому +2

      The biggest differences are usually clock speeds and cooling. In the grand scheme of things these cards have minor performance differences, but they are all technically the same and you don't have to buy an Asus card for example you can buy the cheaper ones and get the same performance
