This review of the NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super includes benchmarks vs. the RTX 4070 (original), RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4080, 3070, 2070, and AMD cards like the RX 6800 XT, RX 7800 XT, 7900 XT, and more. Testing looks at a mix of rasterization performance in gaming, ray tracing performance (including DLSS and FSR), and end-to-end system latency performance as influenced by the GPU. We'll also test power consumption of the new RTX 4070 Super graphics card. This testing should help establish which video cards are the best for gaming in the $500 to $600 area right now, but we have plenty more coming with the new AMD RX 7600 XT, NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4080 Super, so check back for those this month.

Honestly the rx 7600 xt with it's bump 16 GB VRAM puts all overpriced mid tier ngreedia gpus to shame. But the ngreedia fanboys are buying those like blind nevertheless and push the prices even further to their own disadvantage. And to.add insult to injury nvidia just recently announced an old 3050 with only 6GB VRAM. This shows that ngreedia fanboys like to get milked. It's awful how they even apologize those prices with nonsensical inflation bs arguments.

The whole series was Nvidia's best new release offering ever since probably the original GeForce 256 DDR. Performance shot up, power consumption plummeted, GPGPU applications went through a renaissance, all cards from 1070 up stayed perfectly relevant for at least the next 3-4 years outside of RT workloads. Hell, 1080 Ti is still just fine for 1080p play for almost any game. Everything that came since has been a series of usual compromises that only become worthwhile after the mid-series refreshes like this one. That being said, this *does* look like a good refresh at least.

Fighting games have a unique scenario where they are locked at 60 fps (unless you mod the game) and with ideal settings/hardware you want the game to look as good as possible while never dipping below 60, with latency as low as possible, and frametimes as consistent as possible. Hey, adding latency tests is great, I particularly like that you don't rely on software and use a separate data acquisition device for measurement.
One question though: if you use frame change detection and use 360Hz display, doesn't that mean that your result is dependent on the refresh rate of that display? I mean, 360Hz refresh rate converts to 1000/360=2.77 msec for a new frame do be displayed as a result of your input. So can you pls explain how do you measure difference in 18 vs 19.3 msec latency when it is below the minimum time for a new frame to display? Are you doing say 1000 measurements and the just average the results or is it some other sort of aggregated result?

I appreciate the inclusion of latency! I'd be curious to see how much "added" latency there is for a given card. In this case I would define added latency as: ( total_latency - (1 / FPS ) ). Ideally this would identify cards with particularly long pipelines or things like that. However, I don't know if this would be a meaningful number since it's so directly linked to framerates (i.e. cards with extremely low framerates will look better on paper). Maybe it could be normalized somehow. Something to think about...

It's hard to justify paying 100 USD more than the 7800 XT to get less vram, and I suspect that the 4070 is going to be dropping somewhat below 550 as well, as it has already been available for below 550 at times over the last couple of months. 600 USD was a lot to pay for a graphics card with 12GB of vram a year ago, and now we're only about a year away from the next generation from both AMD and Nvidia, and maybe half a year away from Intel's new generation of cards as well.

@@GamersNexus You could do a test where you test 7b 13b and 13b+ models with a character limit see how much time it takes and the load/thermals of the gpu. With stable diffusion you can generate 1 - 10 images with varying sizes along with generating animations which is multiple images generated in 1 image. With whisper ai you can test how much delay there is in real time transcribing and translation. You can also transcribe/translate videos ranging from 1 mins, 10 mins, 30mins, 1hour and 1hour+ to see how long it takes between gpus. There are also creative tools like background audio remover and image upscaling via topaz or other companies that you can also test that have a load on the gpu.

For latency, any chance once you have a baseline testing locked in, to do various CPU comparisons? I am curious if CPU design really impacts latency or not, say prooving or debunking modern CPUs with complicated inter core-group communication overhead. This could be prooving/debunking that Rocket Lake CPUs being the last "old school" low latency design, possibly being the only saving grace of the 11th gen, given how it was designed for a better production node and then ported to an older, lower tech silicon.

Plus a single benchmark for 20-30 GPU can take one or two days of work full time without even talking about the validation process (you said it yourself... 1-20 minutes X 20-30 GPU X 3 run... consider time to switch GPU etc.... that's 1 to 2 1/2 working days just for the test).
