I watched this video a few months ago while searching for my second motorcycle. It was this video that convinced me that the Street Triple was right for me. I eventually found a killer deal on a 2012 R with every single factory option already installed and I have loved every minute I have with it!

I'll be keeping my 2013 Street for a good few years yet. Mint bike, nicely tricked up and only getting better. I get the horn looking at it and the giggles riding it. I also love the fact it's a British bike and everyone loves a Triumph!

I miss my street triple terribly but I was just too dangerous on it as an every day bike... Maybe when I'm allowed more than 1 bike things will be very different!

Too dangerous in what way Captain? I love my little StripleR, the way it goes, sounds and looks - and now I have the quick shifter installed it's even more of a hooligan machine (without being so powerful I ride everywhere in three figures).......
Ha ha! Yes, I was in 3 figures to often and going far too fast around corners and roundabouts. And then I was trying to go faster and faster around roundabouts as it was so easy to do on the street triple and it was getting to the point where I was seeing myself skidding off under a lorry or something... Hence the Thruxton and now something else! ;-)

+M.B.T DXB Engine is the bikes best point - very strong and reliable, proven design and Triumph still developing and using in things like the latest range of Tiger 800's...you need have no worries about this one!

Need to merge your audio channels to mono in post. I'm only hearing audio in my left channel when you're on the bike.
Pretty much spot-on review. The Street Triple is a beautifully lightweight and flickable bike with enough power to hoist up the front wheel in first on the power. I only take my 955i in for valve checkups. The rest is easy to do yourself.

Really good review on your bike. Thanks! I'd love to own one but I'd prefer to start learning on a used SV650. I'd love to get a Street triple (2013-2015) as a second, though, so I can thoroughly enjoy it from the get-go.

My first "big bike" was a 600cc Yamaha and it was great to learn my craft on - the Street Triple is a fabulous bike once you have a little experience on the road (although I think it makes a great first bike too but you would need to be very cautious!). Nice review thanks. My wife loves her 2012 purple Street Triple and has clocked 18000 trouble free miles on it so far. It's toured Europe and a set of Bags Connection Blaze soft panniers work great with the bike. Mrs has had over 170 miles on a tank full (one litre still in the tank at fill up!) and even though it was her first bike after passing her test, she has no intensions of selling......perhaps a Street 800 may change her mind. She did have the indicators replaced (one did break) and the headlight lenses were changed also under recall.

Great review Flyer, thanks for uploading. I bought a 2014 STR in early April this year and 6500 miles later I am absolutely delighted with it. It handles superbly on the street whether blasting through sweeping corner on A roads or green laning on neglected countryside back roads. It is plenty fast enough with excellent acceleration and a top speed that far exceeds the needs of a street rider. I've done 320 mile trips and found it to be really comfortable and definitely capable of touring.
I've recently ridden the Kawasaki Z1000, Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 Factory and the Aprilia RSV4 RF. All great bikes but for everyday recreational rides on British rides I much prefer my STR which costs almost half the price of the Tuono and is £10000 less than the RSV.
Like you, I view this bike as a keeper though I will be interested in test riding the 800cc version when it appears in 2016 or 2017. Triumph will need to be very careful that they don't change the nature of the beast too much if they do end up putting an 800cc power plant in it. Bigger isn't always better. It's the lightweight, fast-steering, flickable character that owners like so much, hope they don't spoil that by upping the capacity, bhp and top speed.
I can see myself clocking up a good 50k to 60k miles on this little beauty at the very least.
+elfspicer Cheers elfspicer - completely agree with what you've said - I'll be interested to see the 800cc version too (shouldn't need to add too much to the dimensions/weight) but it would be a shame to marr the bikes essence. I completely echo "bigger isn't always better" as far as bikes are concerned....to me weight is key.
I bought my Street Triple R in August 2012 and like yourself I really do love the bike and also like you will probably replace it with another.I actually didn't know about the rumour of the 800cc model but if it's true that's great news.Great review about the bike have subbed your channel.

3 years on with my first bike now, all well good. you mentioned newer street triple has better handling.. well i just fitted arrow 3 in 1 system. it has really changed the handling and more power everywhere. much easier to switch left/right actually massive difference now. turn in with confidence. orginal exhaust especailly downpipe manifold is very heavy.

I test rode 2015 Street Triple R yesterday and it was brilliant! I thought the wind blast would of been bad on the motorway and at higher speeds but it was fine. I think it will be my next bike for sure!
Gary Hamill Hi Gary - yes windblast isn't an issue, the airflow is smooth (non turbulent) and you just get used to it - I don't even notice it now....cheers

TheMissendenFlyer A really good, and informative review, thanks for listing it. I recently test rode the Speed Triple and really enjoyed it. I eventually decided I wanted more of a 'touring bike' and tried the Explorer the Tiger XCX, and the GS. Brought the Tiger XCX 3 weeks ago and really enjoy it. I don't 'off road' but just love the suspension set up, especially when carrying luggage. The top opening side panniers were really easy to use on a 4 day trip to Wales.
I am really interested to see what Triumph might launch in 2016.

I got a 2015 model earlier this year - It has all the extra bits that you mentioned (Fuel Guage, ABS etc). It's my first 'Real' bike - I rode a CBF125 for a couple of months beforehand. I'm really glad that the bike stands the test of time, and it's not just my New Bike excitement that keeps it fun!

My only 'Bad point' so far is that on longer rides - Say an hour or so - It doesn't alf hurt my arse! Hopefully I'll get used to it, or I'll ha no other option than to pick up a Tiger as a touring bike...

I've not tried it, No. They did have one in my local dealership, bur squeezing with my hand and sitting on it for a while are 2 diffrent things. I'll see what happens come the summer - I doubt I'll be going too far until then.
Reading your other comments, valve clearances are every 12k. I'm having mine done on the 5th Aug. quoted £420 plus £55 for hours labour if they need adjusting. Generally they don't need adjustment that early. Also that's with T3 and they aren't the cheapest but they know everything bout triples. Good video and I know what you mean Daytona 675 for 5yrs and no thought of changing. I've tried 899 and all sorts too.

Hi TMF, great video as always :) Speaking as a long term subscriber, you can really see the quality that taking time over your set-up results in, your videos are always brilliantly produced and informative.
Regarding the Triple's long-distance potential, I've just returned from a 5,000 mile trip across Europe (spending most of my time in Switzerland) on my Triple R - the bike was absolutely fantastic, did one or two 350 mile plus days and I had a bit of a sore arse but apart from that the bike didn't skip a beat. I think they are cracking machines and deserve their reputation as as the king of the middleweights. Have to admit I didn't like the stock Pirellis, the Bridgestone T30 Evos I replaced them with were faaar more settled in the wet that their predecessors. Certainly a useful trait up in the sometimes rainy mountain passes!

Still love mine first big bike in red and I've done nearly 3k since jan I got it for a steal aswell. It eggs you on to go faster all the time, loves to lift the front end but is very confidence expiring. Couldn't recommend it more highly

Very good comprehensive review Mr Flyer! The black and gold R is the classiest. I've always wanted a Street Triple. Rode a standard new style one in 2013 when my restriction had just come off and I loved it, coming straight off a Honda CBF 125. They're powerful but the triple is as docile as you want it to be. Rode it in the pouring rain and it was very windy so great at helping the nerves at the time! Had no need to worry as it's as happy going at 30 as it is a 100. Definitely suits my style of riding, I'm not a person for thrashing engines! Going to have another go on one (got a free day tomorrow I wonder what I can go and do?). Not sure between a 2012 R in black and gold or I very much like the look of the 2014 standard one in the Cosmic Green.This weeks MCN there's many new Street Triple's planned with a 800 engine. The RT looks like it would be a great commuter
Tiger Jim Yeah I read that article, exciting stuff ahead if true! I think the 2012 in black and gold is the best of all the Street Triple R's - not only does it look nice but the 2012's were the last models with the shorter first gear, making them a bit more of a beast than the current crop which got "softened" in the 2013 revamp (along with losing the high level pipes which I love)....
Great levers-known as killer as when you really need then they tend to break. Pay some decent money for decent levers

Jesus Christ, finally home! I left at 11 this morning and got back at 7:30. Had trouble getting it insured so by the time I left, it was dark and full on snowy. Had to ride through Peaks in pitch darkness with icy roads, while it was snowing like crazy! Bloody Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas are god awful in bad weather. Worst experience of my life! Three hours of riding through the freezing cold snow, in the dark, while the back wheel wanted to slide everywhere, to get back to bloody Liverpool!
But, Street Triple R is 10/10, would ride through hell again! phenomenal machine.
Hi, really liked your review. I bought a old stock 2014 one this spring and really like it. Slightly gutted to hear there might be a 800cc version coming out next year as I asked the dealer that before I bought and he said not, so we'll see if I'm heading back to Lings in a few months I guess.....

TheMissendenFlyer I can't believe how cheap your insurance is - to put it in perspective, I pay £1700 (TPFT) for an '09 STR (must be noted though that I am 25, living in Central London and have a past theft claim!). Great vid as usual.

The VED is not emissions based for motorcycles. If it were you'd pay far less, as would almost all bikers. The government discriminates against bikers and still charges by engine size. 675 is in the highest group so you pay the same as I pay for my Triumph America LT 865cc.
Superbly useful video by the way. I am saving for Street triple R as a 2nd bike which I'll use mostly for commuting and evening rides out.

I've had the same bike for the same length of time here in Australia. I went for some Akrapovic slip ons (black carbon fibre) and the bar end mirrors. One part that died on me was the OEM stator (~2 years). Apparently a known quality issue. But she is my first big bike 😀. Parting from her will be hard.

+TheMissendenFlyer I'm a bit of a slapper in this respect. I've owned a Hyosung 250 and Honda CB400 prior, and feel I need to ride and own more types (bigger and different styles). The BMW RnineT is taking my fancy. Also the Moto Guzzi Griso is stunning. Then there's the older Ducati Street Fighter. Hope Triumph update there models next year. I looked at a Scrambler but was so underwhelmed. Great vid btw. Quality.

Hi mate do you know the main difference between the 2011 & 2012 Streety?
Late 2012's gained the foxeye lights, other than that nothing - 2013 MY had major changes to gearing, underseat exhausts and Euro 4 compliance (added ABS too).....
Here in Australia they offer the street triple 660 which is a learner approved motorcycle. Exactly the same as the 675 just with a smaller engine and restrictions.

Hahahahaha, Im 26 now and far more mature and disciplined than I was say 5 years ago.
I always hated bikes, its only been recently that I've began to acquire a taste for them especially nakeds.
Now I'm going for my Learners and getting the street triple.
It was a toss up between the street triple or the ducati monster, did some research and discovered the Triumph is far more reliable than the Ducati so it was a no brainer!

Older models have it. I wanted to know if the new ones got it too. My Bo is fine! It's exhaust smell really. It's like ure standing in front of it for 10 min with bike on.
Damn your streets are Narrow! ( Come to USA) My speedie speed shifts without a shifter by just adding a little Marvel Mystery Oil to make the oil super slippery. Extend the front fender. Suspension is set for 2up so just needs adjust.
Yes well narrow street add to the sense of challenge! ...and I have been to the USA many times, includng on a bike (check out my trips n tours)... Thanks for watching! TMF
I have the same bike (bought it in October). Just got a carbon fiber belly pan, ordered the installation kit for it from my local Triumph dealer, but it was missing the front right bracket. Apparently this one bracket is nowhere to be found! Any idea where I might find one? It's part # A2305558.
The belly pan was expensive but looks amazing. I even made some custom vinyl decals for it. Kinda perplexed how it is that one single bracket is preventing me from putting it on my bike!
I'm afraid I don't sorry!

Wow, two bikes on one insurance or multi insurance as you call it in the UK or the mother land as we call it. One can only dream of having that option in Australia. Having two bikes n car in Oz,,,, that's why I stay on night shift, it keeps the dream alive.Ps. thinking of buying Hondas African Twin when its released in Oz, February 2016 , have you had a chance to check it out yet,, you seem to get the new bikes before us. Good video mate..,, very clear informative and to the point,, would have liked to no what milage you have done in the 3 yrs of ownership, i,like the brake fluid reservoir on the front ive tried to look for one like yours but im rubbish on ebay,, I have now owned my speed triple 2 months only ridden 5 times not used to riding naked bikes,, had sports bikes all my life,, not sure what I think of the triumph yet as I traded my 06 zx10r in for it and believe it or not it did 107mph indicated on the clock when you hit the rev limiter in First,,,ive gone down from 180bhp to 130,, will do a video in the near future ,,a sort of review of my speedy,,,take care and thanks for the video shane

From memory I think I've done around 6300 miles on the STR - I tend to only use it for shorter rides so hence not many miles (compared to say my GS - more than that in half the time). Harsh to complain about adjustable suspension. It's unlikely to come from the factory to suit your specific needs, hence the ability to adjust.
any one can tellme wy my triumph street triple lick antifreeze from the middle of oil pan and from the little house on the side? please help?

I agree Glen, I don't know why Triumph don't re-release this scheme on the new model, I just think black and gold rocks!
bike tax is based on engine size not emissions. anything over 600cc fits into the highest tax bracket of £85 per year

Been watching your videos and I have to say there are great to watch, I have not looked at Triumph bikes until I watched your videos and I love the look for the Triumph and I have a dealer ship in my town Watton. So I now have a new triumph speed triple r special Edition and I'm loving it. I'm after a second bike and again I now like the BMW GS 1200 but I also like the Harley Davidson so not quite sure what to go for any advice or your opinion would be great.

2012 R model here, going on my fourth season with it.

Fuel gauges and fuel lights are for four wheelers. ABS? I've heard tell of that. Lol. Have you had a valve clearance check done yet? That tends to be a pricy item in terms of labour cost.
Len Scapoff No not had the valve clearance check yet - do you know when that's due (not heard of that being an issue on these??)
TheMissendenFlyer It's not an issue as such, rather a scheduled service item. It's important because (on a triple) you have a total of 12 inlet and exhaust valves and valve seats that settle and wear individually. Consequently, some will eventually settle or wear out of tolerance specification (usually overtighten) and require re-shimming (clearances that are too tight can eventually cause overheating of and consequent damage to the valves concerned). Triumph used to specify a check every 6,000 miles, but I think they raised it to first check at 6K and thereafter every 12k some years ago. Check your service manual, with the local dealer or with a suitably experienced independent mechanic. Or do a search on triumphrat.net (an invaluable source of, amongst other things, technical data and how to's for all Hinckley Triumph models).

In case it's of any relevant reference to you, the low fuel warning light appears on my MY14 RX when the fuel gauge reads 2 bars out of 12. The 2013 model onwards might be slightly more economic though.

I can't say I've noted a definite measurement, only that it is less than the CBR500R I had previously. But then the 500 wasn't as tempting, either, if you catch my drift. D2R.

I'd assume yours blew. That doesn't mean they all do. Mine hasn't.
The FZ-09 has the superior power plant. I test rode one yesterday and the torque is ridiculous. The Triumph is better in almost every other facet.

DervMan Hi there Dervman - no I haven't, but maybe one day (to my mind the Explorer is a case of Triumph copying the GS, why have a copy??). As demonstrated with the Street Triple Triumph are more than capable of coming up with great original machines.....

Regards the tyre, the visor shop (online business) sell that tyre for £97 in that profile and size. Take that and the bike to your local fitter and you will save a few pounds next time

Damn that's cheap. I bought a new 2015 model about 3 months ago and my insurance is about 890 euros per year and the first service cost about 340 euros, living in Sweden :( Also managed to get a flat tire.. fun stuff.

I've come across a pristine 2011 Red Speedy with only 1600 miles and $3k worth of upgrades for $6000 at my dealer. Full Ti Arrow system, belly pan, Pazzo's, rear eliminator, etc. etc. .... I'm thinking of adding to my stable of the Tiger 800XCa, Bobber and WR450F. Thoughts?

Chameleon 172 He he ;0) it'll come - I paid over £500 last year, a bit of no claims sure helps (and shopping around)....I'd rather be young with high insurance than old with low....
don't trust cheap ebay specials - if that brake lever fails you could be in serious trouble - or worse - CRG racing do great levers you can rely on, there are others, the important thing is you pay for what you get, levers aren't something you can skimp on!
Fair point Brian - I have never had any issues having bought several from E-Bay but i agree, in the main you get what you pay for in life....

Would you mind doing a video on the oh so popular cam chain tensioner rattle?
Mine is doing that and I heard it is nothing to worry about but it nags me every time I start her up.
I don't know enough about it to make a video I'm afraid.
Get the bike warmed up and bounce it off the redline in second gear, that makes the tensioner stop rattling 👍

+vtrboy34 Hi VTRboy - I would have thought any Triumph dealer could order them for you. You could buy from a dealer and fit yourself but you do need to reprogram the ECU for aftermarket exhausts....so I let the dealer sort that out. When I got mine they were approx. £500 I think (fitted including ECU reprogram). Cheers - TMF
