So refreshing to hear someone with an opinion. Motorcycling journalist now days seem to have lost this ability. Don't you just hate it when that rectangular drop of water drops on the lens every time you're going 60? Horrible british weather! Great video as always thanks!
One thing I seriously enjoy more on the 2012 is the dash. I love analogue needle tachometers. I think they are akin to an excellent looking time keeping piece. I seriously hate these new tft displays that are coming out.
You are spot on with the looks comparison... Very good example of Hutber's Law. I, for one, really appreciate your intelligent, profanity-free, grown-up reviews. And the lack of hideous background music. Thank you again for taking the trouble to post. KR, Buzz.
Can't get enough of your reviews, you have a magnificent speaking voice. Plus you're a great salesman! I've been riding an EX500 for the past three years and have been thinking about what to get next for quite some time. Your reviews have really helped influence my decision. Hate seeing reviews of riders talking only about speed and wheelie-ability, just not how I ride. Thanks so much for the great work!
What a brilliant video. I love the side by sides you do. No one does this yet it is so helpful. Particularly, if a potential buyer like myself, is deciding to buy a new model or save a few quid and buy the previous model. Thank you!
I have a 2018 Street Triple R. I have a Remus slip on, bespoke heated grips, sliders, blah blah. All came with it. That said, I had my eye on a 2012 when the other came up. He has to get rid of it and it already had the upgrades for just 1k more (US). I picked it up for 7k US, with 2.5k on the clock. It just my fave bike ever and I’ve been riding for 30 years. All that said, the 2012 is a better looking bike, no doubt about it. I have the black gloss paint and it’s brilliant, but the real difference is the black chassis on mine is just sublime. It will always be more capable than me and is super confidence inspiring. All graft machines and the sun will be our Wednesday. Thanks again for being so comprehensive. Your bike looks amazing!!!
I have a 2014 Triumph Street Triple in Cosmic Green. It has the under slung exhaust and ABS. Old bike looks better. I like that TFT screen. When I bought my bike I watched a ton of videos and as far as naked bikes it was pretty much the king in every video.
I've ridden the 2019 RS, great bike, and the sound is best for me, but not because of muffler but because of the suction noise in the airbox. But yes the look of the 2012 back is niceer.
Completely agree with you on this. I would love the upgraded hardware of the newer bikes, but aesthetically, I absolutely love my 2009 model. I'm kind of sad that they no longer do that lovely yellow logo on the tank too!
I agree, I have a 2005 speed triple and the whole look of the bike is much better than either of these two models. The new models try to look overly slick and it just doesn't work. It's gradually losing the streetfighter aesethic.
I am 63, I've grown up around Brit bikes. BSA, Triumph, Norton, Vellocete, Vincent, and Ariel. My father collected and sold examples of all I just named. I personally own a coupke of trumpets. So I'm thinking of parting with 1 of them and maybe get a speed triple. Don't really care if not a new one. I just want it for some nice, fun brisk rides through the Georgia mountains. W/0 antique electrics and kick starting. Always loved the old trident and rocket 3 motors so mabey a speed triple or a sprint...thank you fir your great vid.
Love youre reviews man, always detailed .... honnest. totaly agree on the looks, can’t beat black/gold... next sunday gonna look at a secondhand 2012. Keep up the good work
13:05 They made a very good sound for an Euro 4 bike! But when you listen, you notice its more quiet and they concentrated more on the airbox sound. But the deep wide base sound is missing now.
What a great review/honest thoughts between the bikes. The funny thing is i have 100% no interest in Esther bikes, but because the content and how it was put together was so well done I stayed till the end and glad I did. Well done from the Peak District
Stick the Ohlins and the Brembo's on the 2012 and would take that every time. Love high level cans, prefer analogue rev counter as well as the tft and no to matt paint. Old is definitely a winner.
Agreed with the paint. The new one just looks plain boring. Good thing about the old one, is you can probably pick one up cheap enough to upgrade the brakes and suspension to near enough spec. I am wondering more and more if the cams are what give the new RS it's increased power up top. I would really like to know how the new R feels in comparison with the RS's different cam.
I have the new silver STR2017 and it's great. You may buy a STR2016 but will be costly to upgrade it to the STR2017. New breaks, suspensions, slip and assist clutch and LED lights plus workshop costs... it will be almost the same price as the new one.
I personally believe the 2013-2016 STR still looks and sounds better thumbs up if you agree. I'd like to see a comparison on that and the latest model.
Great Review! Thanks! We had a Street Triple 2011, and are currently looking to buy a 765 R. We also own a Tiger 1050 Sport and a Daytona 955i, and love your comments on both bikes!
Just bought a really mint condition stock Street Triple R Black/Gold 2012 at 2535KM odometer. I guess it is not a wrong decission to pick the old one rather than the new one. Thanks for your video mate! You are the only source i had
Great vid. i owned the original street 675 in 2007. At that time i could have sold it for 2 grand more than i paid for it. Demand out stripped supply. I then had the 2009 - 2010 -2013 models. All these bikes r bloody stupendous. But the 2017 model realy does take it to the big boys toys. And beats them into a tin hat. Every bike in my opinion should have the awesome quick shifter. Just watch your licence. Once again great and honest vid. Safe riding guys and girls.
I just sold my modified 2005 Speedie (in gloss black and gold). It was very similar looking to your 2012. I agree with with your opinion on the tail ends. So I have recently purchased a 2017 Speedie (S) to overcome the tail end issue. It is gloss black and I am painting the rims gloss gold. I have fitted twin SC-Project "silencers" which sound superb. I feel the Triumph management team should be patted on the back for producing such beautiful machines, I and my daughters love them.
Excellent and really enjoyable video. A proper comparison by a biker for other bikers; packed full of answers to questions we'd all be asking. The most fitting compliment I can pay you is that in my opinion you're the finest reviewer of motorbikes since Jeff Stone who also knew instinctively what details other bikers would want to know about the machine he was talking about.
I've got a 2010 Striple R in black and gold with twin arrows, twin round chromes, the triumph ohlins rear shock and a quickshifter and I wouldn't swap it for anything. It's just a gorgeous bike and over time will appreciate in value. Couldn't agree more with your comparison.
TheMissendenFlyer I looked for ages because I knew it was an option. It's purely for the earlier Streets and not from the Daytona. Anyway to cut a long story short, go on the website A1 moto Triumph. They've got them in stock under they're parts page £549
TheMissendenFlyer That's a hard one to answer, I'm not a track rider, but really got it because it's a premium unit and it was available as an option. It also looks damn cool on a black and gold bike as opposed to the blue one. It's like anything in life, you get what you pay for and Ohlins are arguably the best. On my Trumpet Scrambler I put Bitubo Italian shocks on the rear and they are very good also. I think in the end if you love your bike, you'll want the best on it, hope that helps. Did you find it on the site?
I've revisited...... My bike is closer to yours in terms of generation I bought a 2014 Street triple in 2016. It was like new, it still is... what a motorcycle the Striple is....Its light , nimble and quick. The suspension cannot be called 'plush',, hard describes it perfectly...which of course makes it great on good surfaces, but awful on rough roads. A little tweaking and experimentation can improve it a little, however its probably best to keep to good roads. Here in España I stay away from 'agricultural roads' as they are usually rough, pot holed and generally in pretty poor repair.! ....Lastly, you're right ....your Striple does sound better...
For colour scheme it has to be the metallic gloss orange on the 2010 round light version. Plenty of matte orange but not many gloss orange around. I often get asked if mine is a custom paint job at petrol stations. High level exhausts every time for me.
Trouble with this is you're comparing the 2012 R to the new RS. Really you want to be comparing it to the new R. This RS has been tuned to have a lot of the power up top, which you don't seem to be in much in this vid, or at least when you did the power comparison bit. The new R is much more like the older models in that the engine's been tuned for the road, so more torque lower down than the RS. Will you be riding the new R? As it sounds like that's the bike for you :)
Yes you're probably right there, I didn't have the option of borrowing an "R" but would love to for all the reasons you state...maybe next year I'll be able to. Thanks for watching - TMF.
I have the STR2017 and I rode the STR2016 and in terms of engine its almost the same. The STR2016 is overpriced. The new one is 2000€ more expensive but the dayling headlights, the slipperclutch (good security measure), better suspension and breaks plus the rider modes (the rain mode ir really helps you to get a grip of a a very powerful machine like a A2 license ST) it's better in terms of value for money vs the old STR2016.
I stopped at a service on M1 just to see the new vid and it did not disappoint! :) I prefer the look of the new bike on the front and the front-side department, but the old one definitely better on the rear side. Since I'm a rather big chap (6' 5), I look a bit.. funny on these, but perhaps if the 2018 Speed Triple will come with the TFT, will keep the under-seat exhausts and if they just make it lighter, to at least match the Superduke, I will be hyped as never before. Thanks!
The back end of the 2017 RS looks more or less like my old 2015 RX which I loved. This is massively better than the dated look of the 2010 Triple I had before that. I also had the matt silver paint on my RX and I love this colour. It's also very practical here in Southern Spain! I do agree with you on the headlights though.
13:30 into this vid put a huge grin on my face , now i know i made the right choice , i pickup my secondhand 2012 street triple R with arrows cans at the weekend 👍👍👍👍
In most parts a fair and helpful review. Thorough and well thought out vlog. I agree about the paintwork and plumped for the glittery black 765RS but agree the stickers and red lining aren't the best looking and would have also preferred the classic black with gold rims mix. As for the arrow can - not sure it has made much of difference on mine - the joys of regulations
Yes sadly it seems the optional cans on today's Triumphs are constrained by regs - I recently rode a Vance and Hines equipped scrambler back to back with a standard one and I couldn't tell any significant difference! ....you couldn't even remove the baffle from the V&H pipe as it was welded in!!
TheMissendenFlyer indeed, the EU arrow can is welded in although the Triumph website shows a non EU compliant one as an option - whether U.K. Dealers fit them and leave this at your peril come MOT is another matter - but the removable baffle option is there - just not sure it's worth the agro. Great if you could do a Ducati cafe scrambler review at some point - you know the one that looks like a themed JPS set up.
i own the 2014 r version and I love the looks... you are correct new bike lights are a disappointment.... as well i hate the new pipes... love mine left them stock and have no regrets... but new dash AWESOME!!!! rider modes? who needs em? rider modes and more horse power is nothing more than staying competitive vs the competition but really they are not needed... my 675 will easily do double the speed limit.... no one needs more than 240 kliks per hour on the street....
Really interesting contrast and compare. I own a 13 Street Triple R in matte gray and I LOVE the looks; I am more attracted to the "R" version for 2018 than the colors offered on the RS version (more the red subframe for the rear vs. silver than anything else).. Like TMF, I am a massive fan of what I already have so there's no urge to get a new bike for me however I am at the same time very interested to stay up on the current offerings and it is content like this that speaks directly to me. Thanks for doing what you do; I along with many others value it very much.
Thanks as ever Scott - and yes that black and red scheme is a looker, if I were going for a Streetie now I think the "R" may be the way to go for that alone...
Thanks mate. Another good review. Great to see you calling it as you see it. As we discussed previously, the 2017 has more power at the top end...which is useless on the road. I like the new display. Sorry, but high pipes are a hate crime on a Striple....it is a well known fact that white 2012s with the low Arrow pipe have 50 more HP.... ;-)
Have to disagree, sorry. I have a 2012R with a quickshifter and love it. Test rode the latest model RS. To me, they took a bike that was already great, and made it even better.
I think it should be fair to compare the old STr with the new base model! The premium in price for the RS is huge and still it fails to convince people it's night and day difference. Great review and comparison though and thank you for taking the time to make it happen.
Personally I think the RS front makes it look like a Mantis, I quite like it. But I also like the older lamps too. I have a black RS which I think looks much better than the silver one. I absolutely hate gold on any vehicle so I'd never agree that it looks good on the old bike. In the end though they are both great looking bikes. If I had a looks complaint on the new bike I don't like the angular, filled in sub-frame and I dislike that the RS has a silver one when the red sub-frame of the R was always a big draw. I do want to add EF that you are rapidly becoming my favorite motovlogger/bike oriented content creator. Your videos are thoughtful, informational and interesting.
Thank you very much sir! ...and good choice getting the RS in black, that grey does it no favours......all a matter of personal taste of course, someone in Marketing at Triumph clearly likes the grey RS!
Ya know i just cant decide. I love them both equally. I was watching the bike chase at the end of mission impossible 2 the other day and Tom was riding a 1999 T595 or T509 speed triple I think and man does that bike still look good. So I think these bikes will look good for years and years. I also agree that the black and gold is just awesome looking! Nice vid!!
Your old sounds better than the new, but that's only because of the arrow cans and there are double the amount. Having a 2016 R myself in mat grey I think it looks fab but that's just personal choice. Enjoyed the comparison, keep up the good work.. Ride safe.
Another great vid. I prefer the old bikes dials. Don't like the look of the TFT at all and I don't need all those modes. Not enough to get you to change. All you need is that Bobber or a cruiser.
so big numbers on a screen is hard to read? Let alone more accurate speed readings calculated in micrometers rather than an old speed sensor that has mph discrepancy's hmm. Only robust reliability is the merit to analog milometers.
Super helpful comparison thank you! Considering these two model years myself. Curious what percentage % you would guess the handling is better on the new one vs 2012 for every day twisties?
@@TheMissendenFlyer thank you sir. Going to look at a low miles 2012 R tomorrow for about $3,400 euro. The newer 2017+ Triples definitely look more modern but I only really care about ride quality in corners.
@@Derpderpson123 One locally. Really fair price for it, but that year didn't have ABS yet so unfortunately passed as I just can't ride with 100% comfort without it. Ended up with a more ADV style bike. But wouldn't mind one of these i the future as a second weekend bike!
I'd like to see the 2017 in the older 2013 'R' model white/red/black livery. Also, the 2017 exhaust sounded better to my ears; a bit meaner, with more growl. 2012 dash looks very dated now.
Ha ha ha ha, love it TMF, you love your 2012 and it shows. The new girl, with all her flashy bits, bells and whistles, it just can't compare in looks or sound can it to your baby. My 2015 RX is very similar to the new RS, so to me it looks like a tweak on mine. Glad the 90 cc isn't mega or I'd be off to PX. I did have those twin high level Arrows on my 2010 STR, but found they droned in my ears to much, and sold them on, fitted the 3-1 Low Boy and loved it. Mine was black and gold, you're right it's a lovely colour combo, my Daytona is blue and gold, love those wheels. Thanks for the video as always.
Well, I own a 2016 MT-07 but had back then the opportunity to buy a 2009 Street Triple R with low mileage and in very good condition. And even though I chose the Yamaha, I still dream of a Streety. Between 2017 and 2012 I would choose the older model. I find her a much more raw and pure Motorbike.
My street triple 765 R is black with the frame under the seat painted red, i think it looks as good on the new street as the black and gold does on the old. I don't think the stickers stand out as much with that colour as they do on the RS. There is an aftermarket arrow exhaust available so that might sound better.
I was told by the dealership that they were starting to sell the R in June, but i got a call at the end of may to say that they had my bike in. Had it just over a week now
Great review I know it's an old one but it's been great I've decided witch one I prefer I have to agree the older one looks better especially the front end. Well put together this review 👍
Good comparison video TMF. I have to agree with you the older bike does look nicer with the colour sceem and I am a big fan of the twin exhaust because it makes the bike look better.
Yet another good review. I'd be happier with the new street because of that handling and brake improvement, but agree your old bike looks better. The cowling on the RS should go altogether. And I think Triumph have missed a trick with the lower spec R and S versions - one at least should mimic Yamaha's MT strategy and be more roadster than sport-naked focused. Higher bars, lowered suspension, single round headlight and keep the rest - no need to go retro and trespass on the Bonnie range. Fast bike but more relaxed to ride.
Lovely job, would be interesting to know how much it would cost you to change up to a new bike from your bike. This would be a big deciding factor for a lot of people who have the old model.
Well about £5000 I reckon, not worth it in my view....the new bike doesn't deliver 100% more thrills than my 2012 (which is probably worth around £5000), I'd say it's about 20% better, so if you could get one for £6000 I'd upgrade, at £10,000 naa....
Another great and interesting review, totally agree with your comments for me the older bike looks better all round and can't under stand why triumph don't make the colours they used too!!
the matte gray with the red stickers looked quite cheap to me. am getting the phantom Black. But the shotgun style exhaust vs single side exhaust, its a lot of weight savings, right? I had speed3 with dual exhaust, loved the looks, but tried a single side low boy and never went back.
Good man - Phantom Black is the way to go...nice one. And yes the weight saving is significant, I just like the high pipes look/sound (I appreciate I am in the minority on that!)....
Everytime they make a new model it looks more like manga plastic than the old one. look at this ugly plastic rear frame cover. the best looking street triple was the 2007-2010 model. this was timeless and modern together with quality materials.
Vince LaRocca His bias is obvious due to the fact he own the old model. Of course he will say old is best. Poor example of a wannabe reviewer/road tester. It just shows you how good people like 44teeth are.
Great video as always Mr TMF! I think I chose well buying my 2016 Street last year. Got the extra bits like the ABS and fuel gauge which the 2012 misses. I like the new 765 but when you compare my red standard red 2016 against the 2017 S model, it just doesn't do it for me and it looks rather bland. The same I feel is with the RS, there's too much black and it looks a bit dull, not enough shiny bits. All I wish for is that I'd have known about the 10th Anniversary 675 and then I could've got a gold one. Overall I'm happy with my 675, unless they bring out a 765 RT version where I could maybe have panniers, some wind protection with a screen and maybe cruise control.
Great comparison video. Loved the way you put the difference and your style of comparison but you shouldn't have used the blur while riding. Anyways good work.
Another great vid. I think your reviews are pretty well balanced. Only thing that was not fair was the exhaust comparison - a little bit of artistic licence there! The Arrows do sound much better though. I don't mind the paint scheme actually, but never owned a Matt bike.....
Yes I know good point I was thinking what you said about the handling on the RS compared to your R I think the new R would probably have similar suspension to your bike I enjoy watching your videos keep it up 👍
I brought the new street triple when it launched in may, I agree with most you said to be fair, the "looks" on the old made the choice more difficult, but the new upgrades on the 765 won it for me. The noise I think will come when some aftermarket cans are released. I got the matt silver though... I have always had shiny bikes and fancied a change. personal preference I guess there though.
I didn't know this was a video I needed; I've started considering getting a Street Triple but didn't know if I wanted a 675 or a 765 (new rider, big guy). Sounds like the 675 works better for me, plus that black/gold paint scheme is just lovely!
I'm aware that it's a bit of a handful, even at my high altitude (4300ft/1300m), but I'm very much a "buy it once" kind of person. I love the idea of an all around bike, and not too crazy on power. Between a VFR and this, I think this might be more my idea of a perfect bike.
Watching you for quite a while now and have to say enjoyed all your videos on here and cant wait for the next they are all very informative. I cant see why Velocity or another company as not contacted you to do a series with them
Thanks for that. It's the one I was waiting for. The thing that really naffs me off about the new bike is the plasticky thing between seat & tank. Totally obnoxious! I wish they'd given it to an Italian design house for finishing off. Triumphs attention to detail has improved, but it's still not in thevleague of say the Ducati Monster. The rider modes aren't necessary with the 675 engine unless you're ham fisted; it isn't a 200bhp Suzuki! And you can put stuff on the back seat of the old one, (probably not Mrs Flyers drum-kit but a club sandwich at least) without scratching any paintwork. But.....because of the Brembos and the ABS, I'd chose the new one over the old one. Having said that I wouldn't chose either but that's another story. Top vlog as always. I watch more of you in a week than the BBC nowadays. :-)
Thank you Steve, if only I could harvest some licence fees like the BBC!! ;0) ...and i agree the Brembos, ABS and Ohlins make for a tasty upgrade on the old "R"....
I must say I agree with on almost all the comparisons between the 2012 and 2017 bikes, the only difference is a minor one were I prefer the 2017 tail unit, but on the cosmetics, sound and front end the 2012 blows the 2017 away, especially the colour scheme.

Cheers mate thanks for sharing.
Yeah it's so annoying but fortunately it is a very localised blur, blocking nothing of importance.
Yeah it's so annoying but fortunately it is a very localised blur, blocking nothing of importance.
Why do people comment about "horrible British weather", or "horrible British Food" when they probably have never experienced either?
One thing I seriously enjoy more on the 2012 is the dash. I love analogue needle tachometers. I think they are akin to an excellent looking time keeping piece. I seriously hate these new tft displays that are coming out.
I’m with you there Yoshi!
I agree totally. Bought a Street Triple R last year, has the analogue tacho. This year it has tft 😢
Great vid. Honestly talking about bike aesthetics is far more interesting to me than talking about BHP and electronics.
You are spot on with the looks comparison... Very good example of Hutber's Law.
I, for one, really appreciate your intelligent, profanity-free, grown-up reviews. And the lack of hideous background music. Thank you again for taking the trouble to post. KR, Buzz.
Thank you very much Buzz - always gives me a smile to see your name crop up in the comments....
PS just googled Hutbers Law....must remember that one!
Black and gold, I bet you loved the 80's! ;)
Yup...

13:05 They made a very good sound for an Euro 4 bike! But when you listen, you notice its more quiet and they concentrated more on the airbox sound. But the deep wide base sound is missing now.
Agreed....
What a great review/honest thoughts between the bikes.
The funny thing is i have 100% no interest in Esther bikes, but because the content and how it was put together was so well done I stayed till the end and glad I did. Well done from the Peak District
Thank you Jon - very nice of you to say so (and to watch!)
Bit late In on this but what a brilliant review…these kind of reviews work so much better than “it’s a weapon around the track “ reviews..cheers Andy
Thank you Martyn, I'm glad you think that!
Sound is really good in this video mate, top quality as always.
Thanks :0)
Thanks for the videos. Considering buying a 2012 R model now as they’re such good value.
Give me the 2012 model anyday, especially for the sound. Great video.
Bought a 2010 two weeks ago. Brilliant Bike, love it
Yes they are great aren't they...all of them...
The best 'real world' bike reviewer for the everyday rider, end of.
Thank you Stizzy - very kind of you to say so...all the best - TMF
Very good thanks for the comparison. I have had my 2012 street triple r since new and still love it.
You an me both then :0)
Stick the Ohlins and the Brembo's on the 2012 and would take that every time.
Love high level cans, prefer analogue rev counter as well as the tft and no to matt paint. Old is definitely a winner.
Glad we agree Paul - thanks for watching - TMF
I love the way you compare these bikes. Great show overall. The black and gold is stunning, especially with the arrow.
I agree Edmund - thanks for watching!
Great review, made an easy decision easier, just get 1 of em and I'd be extremely happy
I personally believe the 2013-2016 STR still looks and sounds better thumbs up if you agree. I'd like to see a comparison on that and the latest model.
Totally
Great Review! Thanks! We had a Street Triple 2011, and are currently looking to buy a 765 R. We also own a Tiger 1050 Sport and a Daytona 955i, and love your comments on both bikes!
Cool!
Just bought a really mint condition stock Street Triple R Black/Gold 2012 at 2535KM odometer. I guess it is not a wrong decission to pick the old one rather than the new one. Thanks for your video mate! You are the only source i had
Well done - great purchase!
Saw a photo of a white 765 Street Triple R the other day. Very nice!
Yes it works in white to doesn't it :0)
Great vid. i owned the original street 675 in 2007.
Cheers!
I'm with you on the bug eyes and the sound. 2012 for sure is the winner. 🙂👍 the new one is more quieter and refined and breaking is just fantastic.
Yep - I think the sales figures are pat on the back enough, seems Triumph are going from strength to strength - a great British success story!
Onwards and upwards....Rarely will you find a better bike in the past. Or car, or airplane.......Bloody good video!
Thank you Mike (although I do lament the passing of Concorde)
You can't go wrong with a classic black and gold paint scheme, (JPS) 😊would make the 2017 look even better!
You're right there!
Just the review a lot of us wanter! Thank you!
You're welcome...
Wow, that's very kind of you to say - thank you....
Nice one Gary - is the Ohlins rear from a Daytona then? I didn't realise they were available for the older Street's....might have to look into that...
TheMissendenFlyer I looked for ages because I knew it was an option. It's purely for the earlier Streets and not from the Daytona. Anyway to cut a long story short, go on the website A1 moto Triumph. They've got them in stock under they're parts page £549
Good call - thank you....
Oh and one other question - do you think the Ohlins are good value for money?
Loving the new logo :D Can not wait to get my A2 street triple S :D Delivery in August. Passed my A2 mod 1 today :D
Brilliant - well done Samuel and welcome to biking!
Excellent review, very comprehensive, thanks
For colour scheme it has to be the metallic gloss orange on the 2010 round light version. Plenty of matte orange but not many gloss orange around. I often get asked if mine is a custom paint job at petrol stations. High level exhausts every time for me.
Agreed!
GREAT COMPARISON VID! I instantly subscribed! 🤩
Thank you - welcome along!
I stopped at a service on M1 just to see the new vid and it did not disappoint! :)
I prefer the look of the new bike on the front and the front-side department, but the old one definitely better on the rear side.
Since I'm a rather big chap (6' 5), I look a bit.. funny on these, but perhaps if the 2018 Speed Triple will come with the TFT, will keep the under-seat exhausts and if they just make it lighter, to at least match the Superduke, I will be hyped as never before.
Thanks!
Great stuff...and you may be right about the Speedy...let's wait and see!
Cheers Hass - enjoy the sunshine (lucky man!)...
13:30 into this vid put a huge grin on my face , now i know i made the right choice , i pickup my secondhand 2012 street triple R with arrows cans at the weekend 👍👍👍👍
Nice one - enjoy!
Thanks for the very valid observations which are valuable to all riders .....
Thanks as ever Scott - and yes that black and red scheme is a looker, if I were going for a Streetie now I think the "R" may be the way to go for that alone...
watching your videos are going to be the reason why, when I upgrade my A2, i'm going to buy a street triple.
...you know you can get an A2 version (albeit with a 675cc engine)???
aah well that's a game changer, I'll have to investigate...many thanks.
Thanks mate. Another good review. Great to see you calling it as you see it. As we discussed previously, the 2017 has more power at the top end...which is useless on the road. I like the new display.
Sorry, but high pipes are a hate crime on a Striple....it is a well known fact that white 2012s with the low Arrow pipe have 50 more HP.... ;-)
:0)
Have to disagree, sorry. I have a 2012R with a quickshifter and love it. Test rode the latest model RS. To me, they took a bike that was already great, and made it even better.
theycallmebruceful
I too have a 2012 R
So hows the new bike doing for you?
Im just about ready to purchase a 2019 765.
I think it should be fair to compare the old STr with the new base model! The premium in price for the RS is huge and still it fails to convince people it's night and day difference. Great review and comparison though and thank you for taking the time to make it happen.
Yes that would be a better comparison - thanks for watching - TMF
Great video (as always). I love my 2013 R, glad I'm not missing out too much on the new ones. 😁
I don’t think you’re missing anything with regards to fun of the ride...
Very good comparison video!
Thank you..
I own the 2011 R same colour. I'll take it over the new one anyday. Tonnes more emotion !!
Nice vid!!
Thank you!
Your old sounds better than the new, but that's only because of the arrow cans and there are double the amount. Having a 2016 R myself in mat grey I think it looks fab but that's just personal choice. Enjoyed the comparison, keep up the good work..
Ride safe.
Cheers Wyn...good to have you along as ever....
You still up, that's commitment that is.😁
Impressive riding !
Another great vid. I prefer the old bikes dials. Don't like the look of the TFT at all and I don't need all those modes. Not enough to get you to change. All you need is that Bobber or a cruiser.
....well I'm not really a cruiser man, but one of the retro Bonnie's may well be just the ticket ;0)
I'm not a cruiser guy either, but really prefer the analog displays to all this digital. For me it's easier to get speed and revs at a glance.
I love the digital speed/analogue tach combo myself
so big numbers on a screen is hard to read? Let alone more accurate speed readings calculated in micrometers rather than an old speed sensor that has mph discrepancy's hmm. Only robust reliability is the merit to analog milometers.
Personally I don't like high level cans. Owned a 1050 Speed Triple. Dated look now. Agree with you on paint finish and the stripes.
Fair enough...
I have Street Triple 2013 in White. A wonderful bike, my opinion ! I made testdrive with STR 2017, also great !! But I can see no reason to change !!
I'm glad we agree - the STriple is a brilliant machine, whichever one you ride....
Super helpful comparison thank you! Considering these two model years myself. Curious what percentage % you would guess the handling is better on the new one vs 2012 for every day twisties?
Minimal - 5% at most.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer thank you sir. Going to look at a low miles 2012 R tomorrow for about $3,400 euro.
The newer 2017+ Triples definitely look more modern but I only really care about ride quality in corners.
@@vintageprinciples yo where did you find one for that price haha
@@Derpderpson123 One locally. Really fair price for it, but that year didn't have ABS yet so unfortunately passed as I just can't ride with 100% comfort without it. Ended up with a more ADV style bike. But wouldn't mind one of these i the future as a second weekend bike!
Yes! A perfect bike! 👍
I'd like to see the 2017 in the older 2013 'R' model white/red/black livery. Also, the 2017 exhaust sounded better to my ears; a bit meaner, with more growl. 2012 dash looks very dated now.
Fair enough, it's all just a matter of personal taste and opinion of course.....can't disagree with you on that!
Which bike should i buy for everyday commuting street triple rs,ducati 821 or mv agusta brutale 800.
+sudeep ok Street Triple would be my choice....
Just bought a new bike, a Yamaha FZ8 which came with the arrow pro exhaust............did you remove the baffle from the arrow exhaust you have?
Yes I have them removed currently, occasionally I put them back in if I'm doing a longer journey as the exhausts are very loud and can get tiring...
You are a man of impeccable taste clearly! Good to hear from you again, all the best - TMF
I agree (of course!)
Like your 2012 triple's gold wheels, sets it off nicely.
Yeah I agree, I think I have the best Street Triple ever made :0) ....I am of course very biased...
Lovely comparison. Would've loved to see some mechanic maintenance points though on how the old ones been keeping up compared to the new
+Kojy Thanks for watching Kojy - appreciate the kind words - TMF
My street triple 765 R is black with the frame under the seat painted red, i think it looks as good on the new street as the black and gold does on the old. I don't think the stickers stand out as much with that colour as they do on the RS. There is an aftermarket arrow exhaust available so that might sound better.
Yes I 100% agree the new black with red frame does look good.....certainly better than the matt grey RS model I show here...
falarn huh, I thought the R and S aren't out yet?
I was told by the dealership that they were starting to sell the R in June, but i got a call at the end of may to say that they had my bike in. Had it just over a week now
I bought the silver STR, nicknamed it "Bender" XD
Great review I know it's an old one but it's been great I've decided witch one I prefer I have to agree the older one looks better especially the front end. Well put together this review 👍
Good comparison video TMF. I have to agree with you the older bike does look nicer with the colour sceem and I am a big fan of the twin exhaust because it makes the bike look better.
....it’s how the bike was designed after all!
I like the sound of that!
I don't even own a bike, but really enjoyed the review. Good, informative, video, about the things that would matter to me. Maybe I will get one?
Go for it - you know it makes sense!
@@TheMissendenFlyer 6 foot 220...beginner. Too much bike?
The narrow ends of the side mirrors should be pointed outwards, this will enable a wider field of view on with side. It makes a huge difference.
+Rocco Carlino I prefer looking cool over practicality :0)
Question.. does the 2012 ST-R come with ABS?
Another great and interesting review, totally agree with your comments for me the older bike looks better all round and can't under stand why triumph don't make the colours they used too!!
Glad we concur Mike, thanks for watching - TMF
the matte gray with the red stickers looked quite cheap to me. am getting the phantom Black.
Couldn't disagree with you more on the way the 2017 looks compared to the 2012. Everything about the 2017 is better than the 2012...Just my opinion.
Fair enough...
Yep gotta agree
Everytime they make a new model it looks more like manga plastic than the old one.
look at this ugly plastic rear frame cover.
the best looking street triple was the 2007-2010 model. this was timeless and modern together with quality materials.
Vince LaRocca His bias is obvious due to the fact he own the old model. Of course he will say old is best. Poor example of a wannabe reviewer/road tester. It just shows you how good people like 44teeth are.
Adam Pearson I just watched the 44teeth review. Now that was a spot on great review of the whole bike.
Great stuff, The Arrow cans just sound awesome! 😀
Thank you (and I agree!)
I had a 2007 and drove the 2018 RS. They are completely different machines. The RS is much more powerful and lighter. Blew my socks off.
Nice one Jim - I agree you timed your purchase about right!
Great comparison video. Loved the way you put the difference and your style of comparison but you shouldn't have used the blur while riding. Anyways good work.
Thanks :0)
Another great vid. I think your reviews are pretty well balanced. Only thing that was not fair was the exhaust comparison - a little bit of artistic licence there! The Arrows do sound much better though. I don't mind the paint scheme actually, but never owned a Matt bike.....
Yes there wasn't much I could do about that, in my defence I did say it was an unfair comparison!
Yes I know good point I was thinking what you said about the handling on the RS compared to your R I think the new R would probably have similar suspension to your bike I enjoy watching your videos keep it up 👍
Thanks Henry...will do...
Yep all down to personal preference for sure...
I didn't know this was a video I needed; I've started considering getting a Street Triple but didn't know if I wanted a 675 or a 765 (new rider, big guy). Sounds like the 675 works better for me, plus that black/gold paint scheme is just lovely!
You are a man of great taste! ....although I'd be a bit careful about getting a Street Triple as your first bike (but that's just me)....
I cant see why Velocity or another company as not contacted you to do a series with them
Thank you Ray - very kind of you to say so, good to have you along!
+yonniboy1 Glad we largely concur!
great review, I have a 2013 so it was interesting to watch
Nice one Dan - thanks for watching....
