Dude, Porter is straight up schooling these people and I'm loving it
Not really. Unless you live in New York or Los Angeles, there is nowhere in this country that a 1-bedroom place costs anywhere near $1600 per month. I live in Houston, the 4th-largest city in the U.S., and that is still rent for a 3-bedroom/4-bathroom home.
Brandon Davidson I was paying $1700 a month for a one bedroom flat in a town near Baltimore...
@@brandondavidson4085 She represents Orange County, so her numbers are right for her area.
@@josi4749 It depends widely across the various states because even in different parts of a state, like in Texas where I live, the economy can be different. Median rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in El Paso is $600, while here in Houston it's about $900-$1200. But just the fact that I could immediately see the shortcomings of Senator Porter's estimates, as someone from Texas, a predominantly Republican state and conservative since its beginnings, you might be able to see why so many Republicans are unwilling to vote Democrat or consider that any Democrat is knowledgeable enough to truly support the "common man".
There already is this idea that Democrats are out of touch, especially in the South and the Mid-west regions, and Porter's point would have been just as effective if she had said that this hypothetical woman's shortfall at the end of the month would have been -$100 as -$600.
I'm glad I voted for her and she is doing such a great job. That one bed apartment is probably in a high crime area too with rent that low.
He always says, “...streaming down their eyes.” That alone makes absolutely no sense.
Surely you're not still expecting him to make sense -- ? (I too heard that and commented on it bc he is just so stoopid, so insane, such a buffoon, such a frikkin danger to not just this nation but the entire world ... )
Lynell Newson yeah but then again, what has this guy ever said that would make any sense for that matter?
that banker and financial expert can not answer a simple financial question. that ist a bit disturbing.
It's not that they can't, they simply won't. They're trained by their lawyers.
The only good thing to come from the Trump presidency is amazing late night TV. Seth & the show's writers just keep getting better & I love this style of smart comedy. Keep up the great work Seth👏👏👏
I do too! My most favorite part of the show that won me over is something which happened in three episodes of 2020. Amber Ruffin makes fun of Donald Trump when she makes fun of him with a long list of all the bad things he has done for Black Americans, for women, and for the military - in other words people who are just like Amber Ruffin's mom. Both of Amber parents are military veterans. February 21, 2022, 11:18pm
Damn Seth, your writers have really upped their game recently!...keep it going:)
Inglorious Basterd writers? I thought he made this off the top of his head.
I was JUST going to say this! Something is different about the jokes and they are way better
We have all been crying since Spanky took office. Not for the reason he thinks.

Yup they are crying at the joke America has become to the world because of Trump.

Yes, positive coverage of Bernie! There is hope!!!!!
Even if Seth didn't even mention Bernie, the fact that he reported on 60 companies paying $0 in taxes under Trump gives me hope!
They're finally starting to go after Trump for the things that hurt him most
My man Bernie Sanders!
He got cheered by fox news crowd? That unbelievable
cristiano ronaldo That happens when the truth is unfiltered. Don’t blame the Fox “crowd,” blame Fox.
I noticed how he was originally flustered with the tax question, but I loved how he quickly recovered and turned it back onto them, and Trump!
The whole question was right out of Trumps playbook, and Bernie caught them at it!
Bernie Sanders is the only one I belie, and it is sad that america cant ad that much together the republicans give tax break to the rich or rather thy dont pay tax.
Katie Porter my new favorite congress person
Having someone who is actually intelligent on Fox seems rather dangerous for them.
It's probably the first time they saw someone that doesn't BS on the network.
I'm surprised Lou Dobbs didn't immediately have an aneurysm.
Who would that IMAGINARY person be ? ...............
To be fair, Fox did a better job - allowing Bernie to speak, not interrupting him too much, etc - than msnbc or cnn. These two manage to be worse.
Common sense makes no sense!
I cry everyday I see you're still president, too!
As a republocan, I must say that I'm actually surprised that your candid candour (to which I truly relate in deed) hasn't gotten more response from other like minded people today.
As Barack Obama said: "Don;t Boo; Organize."
@doobiewah357 Wow. All ZERO people agreed with you. LOL. You just showed your ignorance. You've been dipping into the conspiracy theories again. Addicted? Oh-oh.
@doobiewah357 Whatever fool.

Why lie about one strong, tough guy with tears coming down his eyes.....when you can lie about hundreds of them???
"Tough guys just tearing up, bawling their eyes out, sobbing, then whining..... and they're multiplying, coming out of the woodwork.... standing on street corners.... whimpering, lifting yoouge barbells, waiting for me to shoot someone so they can cast their vote for me.... I gotta tell you folks, these are real tough guys that will never let me down, sobbing and hefting heavy metal and making it all great.... once more.....by the thousands, I tell you..... some of them can drive golf balls over a thousand yards.... while the real tears flow down the cheeks..... amazing..... can you imagine?"
@@mikegrant8490 ... UPDATE: Nine out of every ten "tough guys" in the USA are now sobbing incessantly about Trump. There are reports that Chuck Norris has been so deeply affected by tears coming down his eyes, that the Kleenex corporation is now making special deliveries of cases of their tissue boxes to his home....and he's being maintained on continuous IV fluids in an effort to keep him hydrated. Mental Health Services nationwide are now busy setting up counseling and support groups to help with the influx of severe cases of "Tough Guy Syndrome". These similarly affected tough guys are being spotted from coast to coast in the Continental USA....and even in Alaska and Hawaii. The CDC is now investigating clusters of TGS, and attempting to develop a rapid response for emergency containment of this unprecedented disorder.

In Canada her take home pay would be $28,525 but she wouldn't have to pay for health care and would get approx. $6,000/year in child/living assistance!
Good start. Finish your point by working your numbers into the ones presented and prove that this person is no longer in the negative.
This is the point where Republicans leave out the part, “...wouldn’t have to pay for healthcare and would get approx $6000/year in child/living assistance!” More money in peoples pockets=more spending=strong economy! Why is this misconstrued by the right? If people don’t have money to spend, where does the wealth come from? Corporations are broke if No one can buy their products! Let’s all go live in Canada
@@yxGu-lj3li it will be the best weather in north america soon, the new source of food for the world, canada would be rich if most of us arent dead by then.
That’s right. A continent is going to shift all the infrastructure required for farming 1,000 miles north and move the actual dirt as well. Multiple countries are going to cooperate on the project. Simple.
People don’t seem to be getting that. Farmers don’t just sit around waiting for stuff to grow and then go pick the finished product from the dirt once a year. There’s at least a world of logistics you’re overlooking
How about we limit or eliminate lobbyists? After all, they do not have our best interest in mind or support us the people.
Revolt.
Thank "Citizens United."
Yep, have to overturn the Citizens United decision first. Recap, Citizens United was the decision in which the conservative-appointed majority supreme justices decided that political donations are simply exercising free speech. Money = speech. Therefore, they decided, due to the first amendment they couldn't possibly say that politicians can't have lobbyists or significant donations - it would be unconstitutional.
The mental gymnastics you have to go through as a Supreme Court Judge to decide that the intent and letter of the first amendment (which guarantees free exercise of religion and freedom to speech, freedom of the press) somehow was written by the founding fathers to allow future corporations and billionaires the right to buy politicians with large donations... blow my mind.
There's also no chance it's getting overturned anytime soon - we have even more conservative SCJs now thanks to Trump's awful appointees, and also thanks to the GOP refusing to allow Obama to appoint a SCJ for almost an entire year, even though the Constitution literally says it's the Presidents job to appoint SCJs. Trump has been in office only 2 years and has already filled as many SCJ positions as Obama did in 8 years (2 each). You can thank the Republicans - and McConnel in particular - for this farce.
how about we overturn Citizens United?
I MOSTLY agree, but there are actually some lobbyists/lobbyist groups who either help inform government on how policy could affect certain markets/industry or actually have the citizens best interests in mind. sadly it still remains true that money buys policy, so we need MUCH stricter regulations regarding lobbyists...... and maybe just go ahead and eliminate them altogether on a national level, allow them only on local and state levels
I am in love with that Rep. Porter. Her logical consistency is like a drug 😊
and you are on drugs for thinking that way.

In 1965, the average CEO made about 20 times what their employees made. By 2016 that ratio had increased to 270:1.
"Since 1978, and adjusted for inflation, American workers have seen an 11.2 percent increase in compensation. During that same period, CEO’s have seen a 937 percent increase in earnings. Reminds me of a law firm I used to work for...the first firm meeting was to congratulate us on our hard work that helped the firm have a record profit year for the third year in a row. The next was to announce that the night staff and 1/3 of the secretarial staff were being fired and we we to take up the slack. The third was that the paralegals would be reduced to full time contract workers and would no longer receive health insurance or benefits. Also, no one would be paid for work in excess of 40 hours per week but would be viewed favorably if we volunteered to work in excess of 40 hours when reviewed for yearly raises. The next was that although the firm reported record profits for 3 years running, the profit margin was not enough to give raises that fiscal year. The final meeting I attended was that the Christmas luncheon was too expensive to continue and the staff now had to pay for coffee because we drank too much of it but the lawyers (who had free parking, gym membership, etc.) were not included in the coffee ban. Then we were all asked to congratulate the managing partner on his purchase of 5 racehorses to add to the 14 in his stable.
Their tears were streaking across their eyes, running down from the top of their eyeballs to the bottom of their eyeballs.

In low-wage jobs, people are struggling to pay for housing, for health insurance, for child care. When people are working two and three jobs and are not able to put together a decent wage, then at a very basic level they don’t have time to be active in their children’s schools, they don’t have the ability to engage in their local politics.
A Walmart employee earning the company’s median salary of $19,177 would have to work for more than a thousand years to earn the $22.2 million that Doug McMillon, the company’s chief executive, was awarded in 2017.
At Live Nation Entertainment, the concert and ticketing company, an employee earning the median pay of $24,406 would need to work for 2,893 years to earn the $70.6 million that its chief executive, Michael Rapino, made last year.
And at Time Warner, where the median compensation is a relatively handsome $75,217, an employee earning that much would still need to work for 651 years to earn the $49 million that Jeffrey Bewkes, the chief executive, earned in just 12 months.
These stark illustrations of income inequality.
It’s grotesque how unequal this has become. For C.E.O.s, it’s like they are winning the lottery year after year. For a lot of Americans, they don’t have any savings. When they lose their job, they lose everything.
@@5pctLowBattery Especially since it's been shown that the impact a CEO actually has on a company's profits are negligible.
@@5pctLowBattery Another excellent example. Well done!
5%LowBattery I agree with all of the points you’ve made, but unfortunately none of them relate to the OP’s main complaint of a corporation paying little tax while they “owe” tax, whatever that means. I’m just pointing out that OP’s statement is very short sighted.
Also, just as aside, since when does every company on earth need to ensure that every employee earns enough to take care of a child? Having a child has similar financial consequences as one buying a motorcycle. Yet, we don’t hear of anyone complaining that they don’t make enough to cover their payments for the motorcycle; probably because nobody would care. Yet if everyone wanted a motorcycle instead of a child and making the payments became an issue, maybe there would be an uproar?
Amazon shipments, like most package shipments in the USPS, are partly subsidized by the US government. Least they could do is pay their taxes.
Thank you Mr. Forrester. :)
Urrgh, I hate to have to say this since I agree with your overall point, but, as it was pointed out when Trump claimed that Amazon was talking advantage of USPS and costing them money, Amazon is largely responsible for a good chunk of the USPS' income due to how much they use the service to ship goods.
That being said, roads, electricity, telecommunications networks, and the internet all are/have government subsided infrastructure that Amazon relies on to work.
Though, in all likelihood, Amazon had no actual say in the current tax laws, considering how much Trump hates Bezos. It just happens to be that Bezos is even richer than Trump pretends to be, so anything that helps Trump and his cronies on the tax front would inevitably help Bezos and Amazon as well, most likely by accident.
Amazon has just bought a gazillion new trucks - they are all over Tucson delivering - usps and ups are going down in deliveries
Taxes on corporate profits are regressive. There are 3 possibilities:
1) The taxes are passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices (regressive, similar to sales tax).
2) The taxes are passed on to workers (not the top executives, who are paid outlandishly) in the form of lower wages (regressive).
3) The taxes are passed on to shareholders. You might think that this is progressive, but a lot of shares in corporations are bundled into pension fund investments for *working class* people, so that's regressive.
MMT economist Randall Wray suggests that, instead of taxing corporate profits directly, we impute a portion of the profits (even those that are not paid as dividends) to each shareholder, based on the number of shares the person holds, and then tax that as personal income. This would fall into the *progressive* income tax system.
My comrades on the Left often say "corporations are not people," but I fear that they fail to understand the implications of this fact.
I would suggest reforming corporate governance. Put labor and consumer advocates on the board, who will be less inclined to approve outrageous CEO compensation, and less inclined to screw over workers and consumers.

Literally. It's almost like one person donating a couple hundred thousand more is absolutely miniscule chump change and that's not a fucking solution to the problem. EVERYONE needs new tax law to create a change significant enough to make a material difference.
You are welcome to pay more than you owe, but then the IRS sends you a refund check. Also, that's a non sequiter, because people with Sanders' wealth and above do not pay what they truly owe.
It's also such a chickenshit ad hominem attack, posing as an argument against Sanders' tax policy idea.

Lots of people go to work in Alaska on the west coast. My parents made as much as doctors when they went there.
My mother's brother became a VP of a major corporation in the Silicon Valley.
And my father's first cousin left a large amount of money (a Foundation) to a city in the west.
Also, his aunt went to Washington, DC and married an attorney.
She wasn't afraid of much.
It's the people in the East coast who are so arrogant and think that the East coast is superior, but the money is being made in the West.
A big tough guy 💪 came to me and he was crying 😢, he asked is that onion you are cutting?
Thanks for a fair and funny bit on Bernie! Tired of the age jokes other comedians do. Also Rep. Katie Porter is amazing!
This.
Totally agree.
The age jokes are all people have on Bernie. Isn't that a good thing?
@@laurent1144 not when everyone does it. It get kind of old. AND it misses what he actually say...
Anders Jackson that's exactly my point. You can tell Seth (or his writers) actually listened to what Bernie was saying and the jokes are built around something other than just his age, which is just a tired bit at this point.
I am crying too because i want Donny to leave office !
Go have a cup of soy latte, Petr. Should make you feel better.
Well said - everyone will be so much happier once Donny-boy is in either a) a prison cell, b) a nursing home, or c) a mental institution.
i LOVE the crow on your desk Seth , he,s so quiet and well behaved , you should have him do some comedy with you ! thanks .
omg! eye contact! that's hilarious 🤣👍
I know just how those big guys feel. I cry every time I see trump too.
or hear the horrific scumbag voice
You can tell Trump hasn't cried in his life (or read a book) because he describes it as "tears coming down his eyes".
You are forgetting Mein Kampf.
@doobiewah357 billionaire my sack, tell him to prove it. the man was handed his life by his very successful and smart but heartless father and probably would actually be a billionaire if he had just invested it rather than poorly run his company and and started countless failed companies aimed at ripping off their customers.... side note: he might even have been a reasonable human being if his father was a little less heartless.
Fred was also a tax cheat so that "successful person" label isn't exactly well earned.
@doobiewah357 What if they are liberals? The word "liberal" isn't an insult like you seem to make it to be. It is only a word that helps describe a person's political alignement
It's the dementia speaking. 20 year-old interviews showed that, at one time, Trump could actually form a coherent sentence.
"The reason why these companies get away with this is BECAUSE WE LET THEM"!!!!!!
-Seth Meyers
"Tears coming down his eyes? was someone crying above him?
I don't think the Secret Service would allow an emotionally unstable "big man" to approach the president...it's a dangerous situation. 🤔
I wouldn't think the Secret Service would care anymore. They didn't get paid during the shut down, they haven't gotten their back pay, and Dumpster fired their boss.
@@pamelacass9642 Just as a test, perhaps one of those "big men" should give him a wedgie to see if the agents intervene. 😃
El Ram I would pay to see that! Lol
@@gretebremseth1622 😉🙃
Katie Porter is such a bad ass, she's so cool, and she's consistent, that's not the only video of her running an interview like that.
Max Jensen My favorite so far is when she pulls out the textbook she wrote herself. That moment was epic!
One small point not mentioned is that woman doesn't actually exist. It was a fictional person. But I understand it was a powerful message. Stick it to Dimon
Ooh she is from my area! Irvine represent!
Isn't 16.5x40x52=34,320 and not 35,070? or am I just losing it?
Regardless, seems like an incomplete budget to me - where's car/health insurance, recurring expenses, etc - you gotta, do it right... I'd also imagine that there's child credit in taxes as well as low-income assistance, including childcare... but point taken - do not have children or pay expensive rent...
Seems like politicians on both sides of aisle have little idea of actual people's costs... has phone cost but not health insurance, unbelievable
She is Bad ass😎
I LOVE you Seth....
Seth was on fire this segment.... I'm still laughing "pumping iron and bawling"......
Tears coming down their eyes? The tear ducts are not located on the tops of the eyes!
Bernie Sanders should have done a mike drop after that.
Plz don't drop Mike on his head. Mike is already dumb. 🌚
@@KittySYT hahahaha that one got me :D
After which part? because the Trump comeback thing was pretty weak. He just deflected the fact that he didn't have an answer. I like Sanders, but that appearance on Fox was his weakest public speaking event to date.
Bernie Sanders? The millionaire who's never worked a day in his life? The muppet with the idiot following? That guy?
@@troymash8109 the dude wants policy that raises his own taxes, WTF kind of proof do you need more that he wants the right thing?
Seth, you are the light at the end of this dark tunnel. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Holy, Seth Meyeres I owe you a tremendous apology, I hesitated in watching your show dismissing you as yet another talk show host but...these closer looks really do get to the bottom of things. Speak a volume of truth in an age of deception. A spark of reality versus a wave of ignorance.
Keep up the good work.
*How about Seth’s Bernie voice, though?* 😍
Don't just impose a fair tax, backdate it a few decades on those criminals.
Agreed
"I'm not Carrie.
I'm actually Miranda!"
That was laugh out loud fantastic!
THANK YOU SETH, finally some truth on Bernie!
Starting to feel like Meyers is the only voice of reason out there. Love this stuff!
"I pay the taxes that I owe."
God damn right, Bernie.
Bernie Sanders paid the least amount of taxes of any politician in Washington in the last 10 years... Yet he's a millionaire. you're okay with that? After all hes said???
@@TroutWest "any politician", no one knows what the President paid, so obviously you don't know what your talking about.
Hey urban dumbass, Bernie voted against tax cuts to himself in favor of higher taxes for the upper brackets, mostly billionaires and large companies who pay zero taxes. Warren Buffet says to tax him more, and he's a billionaire. And you're ok with that??? After all he's said???
@@TroutWest cuz he's earned the least except for the year his book sales hit. Someone has skewed the data!
@doobiewah357 it is and has been a mixed economy. It's the way the mix is fashioned that matters. Bernie earned more but doesn't promote policy to keep more of it. THAT is the point!
Great f*"king commentary! Thank you for informing the US citizens about the privilege rich and cooperate American as well as Trump's lies. Plus, you are funny 😂 as hell 👍😍
The Secret Service isn't doing its job if so many large men are just walking up to Trump and bursting into tears.
Who cares
This Katie Porter chick is becoming my new favorite person 😄
She's the one that made Carson say "oreos". She's the best!!
Me too!!!
Bernie went to Fox, told the truth, mocked Trump, and get an ovation. Next time Fox should give him a mic to drop it and save time.
@@matthewrudnick Really? That townhall was in Bethlehem, Northampton, Pennsylvania. Trump won that state. Northampton was won by Trump AND Bethlehem was actually swung from democrat to republican the past election. So, yeah, nice try to demean the fact that Bernie mopped the floor with the hosts. Fox should stick to invite the duck dynasty cast to tell their opinions on healthcare and climate change, they for sure can do better.
Lol- I'm not even American but do watch this sideShow (can't seem to look away), and..- that's just hilarious n awesome👊!
@@matthewrudnick Actually the news hosts in the town hall said near the beginning of the interview that the audience was filled with both democrats and republicans. All kinds of people with various different political beliefs. As an attempt to fairly represent the average american population or maybe to be fair to Bernie I'm guessing. So I wouldn't say he got an ovation from the crowd because they were supposedly bernie fans or weren't conservatives.
@@matthewrudnick I assume they lie, yes. But I only assume they'd lie in their favour, not to hurt themselves lol. So either 1 they filled the audience with conservatives and are lying about the diverse political spectrum of the audience. 2 they told the truth. Or 3 they lied and stuck the audience with Bernie supporters, which makes no sense. Yes I'm inclined to believe them, because in this case lying either way couldn't have benefited them. I think most can agree CNN puts out occasional misleading information, but if they put information that largely made Trump look good would you assume it was fake or skewered information?
@@matthewrudnick No, but is fair to Say that if you go to any place the demographics of the area will more or less be a definitive factor on who goes. This was a Fox townhall, announced on Fox in a red state in a city that was democrat but switched to republican last election. Under that circunstances is very unlikely that the audience was form by Bernie supporters. If this was Vermont, his home state, or New York or any blue state or city you can fairly Say that for sure the audience would be likely form by democrats, but here is contrary to that. Every other conservative will try very hard to demean this townhall with that kind of straws. But sure, any other person who doesn't like Bernie will say that those people were paid by Soros.
Seth, you are my hero ... you are the only person who can make me laugh these days!
Crying may be because they cant believe what they did. Voting for him. Why 😭
Kudos for how prepared Porter often is, I wish that would be the same for all US politicians and reporters when they question people.
Think about the lame counter arguments they will come up with and bring something to refute them right there on the spot and continue pressing them on the matter.
"Ill bring a snowball into office, that'll show them"
I'm crying cuz you're in the house White House 45 you traitor go live in Russia
If corporations are people;then why aren't these people paying their taxes? Should everyone accompanied to that corporation be subjected to the Rico act for tax evasion? So many questions
Stop asking super-intelligent questions on YT! (Nicely done.)
Yes! This is what I've been saying! Let's start USING Citizens United (if we can't overturn it). If corporations have "rights" as "people" (ugh, it's ridiculous to even say!), then they should have ethical responsibilities as well.
the old man impersonation was on point. 😂
Organized wealth. That is the topic, the issue, the problem that needs everyone's full attention. our way of life will continue to decline until we fight back. We can start with term limits, no private money in politics, and ending lobbying. That should be the goals of all right now.

Great to hear Amazon is paying no taxes while my taxes went up
I guess there's a benefit to providing thousands of jobs for Americans.
Ohmy gosh the 1% wouldn’t be the 1% if it weren’t for us American slave workers.
@@ohmygosh4761 Why? Were the billions of profits even with tax not enough already?
People like you are modern day Uncle Toms.
Amazon is still paying taxes. Maybe you forgot how ATT paid less corporate tax and gave those savings to their employees. The companies that got tax reductions reinvested that money back into the economy. FedEx got a 2 billion tax reduction and invested it in growth into their company, all money that goes back to the economy.
