    To those who think this product is more expensive than other options: It contains 6 g of powder, whereas other "more affordable" products a lot of time contain only about 3 g of powder. If you do the math, the price is basically the same.

      Supergoop's setting powder contains 4.5 grams of product but costs 30 dollars. This on the other hand is 65 dollars and only comes with 6 grams of product. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

    I purchased Totero mugs for my 27 year old daughter a long time ago; post ‘Dr Dray’ viewing. It was a part of your simple ritual that appealed, and l do love my morning caffeine hit. Not only were the mugs a delight for her but l’d also forgotten she already liked the character. Totero was a familiar character to her as learned Japanese in High school. I seem to recall a later vlog with a Totero animation . Nonetheless, l knew she’d like the mugs and they’ve kept her drinks toasty, and that lid is so practical & cute. It was my daughter to a tee! I have enjoyed your dry humour and appreciated your Cerave recommendations in the past 2 (?) years. Kindest regards.

    I wish it wasn't so pricey! Physicians Formula has an spf 30 pressed powder with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that is a very affordable option!

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 років тому +31

      that one unfortunately does not consistently contain iron oxides

    • @jennifers.7037
      @jennifers.7037 6 років тому +10

      Yep you're right. It says "may contain" iron oxides. I use it over my Australian gold botanical sunscreen , so that covers me for iron oxides! The physicians formula spf 30 pressed powder also adds some coverage!

    • @granadascarf4375
      @granadascarf4375 6 років тому +1

      Jennifer S, do you find that the Australian Gold Botanical does not apply evenly? On me, it isn't obvious at first but after an hour or so it develops orange streaks, particularly around my hairline. I've been mixing it with a sunscreen that has a white cast to counter the orange oxidation. Just wondering if I was the only one this was happening to.

    • @jennifers.7037
      @jennifers.7037 6 років тому +2

      I don't find that it becomes streaky at all. It may slightly oxidize, however I don't notice that too too much as I always have pressed powder over top, along with some bronzer, blush and concealer. I even reapply the australian gold botanical right over top of my pressed powder etc with no issues at all. I just reapply some more powder, concealer, and I'm good to go!

    Supergoop makes the same type mineral powder sunscreen SPF 45 that comes in 4 colors for $30.00. Colorscience makes great products but for many of us the price is problematic. I would think some of the tinted stick mineral sunscreens would be a more cost effective option to cover dark spots or melasma. Also IT Cosmetics makes an undereye concealer with SPF 50 in the same packaging as the Solarscience eye product.

      viewers specifically asked me to review this product after my last video on their 3-in-1 eye tinted spf; i reviewed many of the supergoop products in a prior video; i get questions specific about powders and powders seem to be easy to tolerate in people with rosacea

      Got to be careful with some of the IT cosmetics products. I've seen a video on another youtuber complaining about "breaking out" every time she uses "spf products" like bb or cc cream from the brand. Went to check out some of their products' ingredients out of curiosity and was shocked to find a myriad of citrus oils and plant oils / extracts, etc. 😰

    • @palladio7476
      @palladio7476 6 років тому +3

      Eunice Lin Thanks for responding and you are very wise to check ingredients against things you know you have reactions to. But many, many people have no problems with IT Cosmetics and I have used the CC SPF 50 for many years. It would not be such a top seller if thousands of people were having bad reactions. Just because one person had a problem doesnt mean every one will. For example, so many people swear by the Australian Gold tinted sunscreen, myself includee, but Dr Dray had a reaction to it. Cheers!

      @eunicelin5687 6 років тому +1

      Palladio 747 I agree with that what you mentioned. I like to try their products too but sadly I know I would have a bad reaction to any kind of fragrance. My friends used IT cosmetics too and they are fortunate enough not to have any allergic reaction. My skincare routine has since been pared down. But lucky you! 😉

  • @koleplunk

    Avobenzone has a “side effect” that is REALLY BAD if you live in the south east part of the US...I have red clay soil with a lot of iron. Living in a rural area, I have well water instead of city water...when avobenzone interacts with the iron in water it leaves rust stains on clothes that come in contact with the sunscreen!!!! And it doesn’t come out of the clothing....ever!!

    • @rhasxsroge
      @rhasxsroge 4 роки тому +2

      koleplunk yeah, I’ve noticed it leaves yellow stains on my white clothing and if try to use bleach to remove them they turn pink! 😂. I read somewhere that the stains are causes due to avobenzone chelating the iron ions in water, and I guess bleach changes that compound in some way but I’ve never reaserched more about that.

    • @jt8142
      @jt8142 4 роки тому +2

      I abhor Avobenzone for three main reasons, aside from it being an unstable filter that degrades fairly quickly and must be re-applied more frequently. 🧴
      1) Burns/stings my eyes
      2) Turns my clothes yellow
      3) Ruins my nail polish

      Iram Khattak: In this video, Dr Dray demonstrated (and recommended) applying base layer sunscreen lotion and then applying the SPF powder on top. She also said that you can re-apply your sunscreen lotion and SPF powder on top of it without any issues throughout the day. The purpose is not to rely on the SPF powder for your sun protection; instead, the powder is used for mattifying your skin and perhaps a little color correction (as it comes in 4 shades) if your sunscreen lotion is casty on your skin.

    Just received via Amazon my jar of Hada Labo gel cream SPF 50 that you recently gave praise to (although I'm not sure what it's actually called b/c it's all in Japanese. Feels good and it's working well under makeup. My question for you is, with all of these seemingly great SPF's from Japan via amazon (I love the Biore and Nivea versions you recommended), how do we know they actually work, without trial and error of sun exposure? Are they regulated and rated by a reputable agency, like in the US (although I do question the FDA's credibility almost hourly)?

    • @palladio7476
      @palladio7476 6 років тому +4

      fsori9 The Japanese and European sunscreens are far superior to US approved sunscreens but if you are skeptical you could apply one of the sunscreens and leave a small spot of your arm without sunscreen and spend some time in sunlight.

    • @fsori9
      @fsori9 6 років тому +3

      I agree, that would be the likely way to test, but alas I have to stay out of direct sunlight at all costs. I've had more skin excisions than I care to count. It's just not worth it.

      I can pretty much vouch for the Nivea UV water gel one. It’s been quite warm and sunny here these last two weeks and it has done a fine job of protecting my face even with prolonged sun exposure (up to 2h). I use tretinoin, so I’m very careful about sun protection...and I never had even a touch of redness so far.

    LOL Dr Dray! I swear (seriously) you are in my thoughts! I just received the Colorescience Brush-on a couple days ago for touch-ups throughout the day. I wear full face makeup, so needed a way to touch up sunscreen through the day, and thought I would try this. So far so good!

      If you watch the colorscience website and/or emails, they have a 30% off sales occasionally and that’s when I stock up. They just had a 30% sale and offered a valuable gift of a duo pack whipped mineral primer and brush on sunscreen, so I made two separate orders to maximize my savings! They offered the free gift for orders over $200 and they calculate it PRESALE totals, so scored about $150/order in savings.

    I want to make sure I am understanding correctly. I apply my base sunscreen and then makeup products in the morning. Can use this Colorscience as a powder for shiny areas as needed. Then can I use it as my reapplication every 2 hours? Or just as a topper for my base sunscreen reapplication? Still a little fuzzy on this one...

    Thanks for the review! I’ll need to give this a go. I’m currently using Supergoop’s Invincible Setting Powder (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) as a topper to my Elta MD, and IT Cosmetics CC cream. I like it because the brush is magnetic and can be washed. Do you prefer the zinc oxide/octinoxate combination, over titanium dioxide/iron oxide? Also, what’s your take on Tri-Luma and moisturizer? The instructions say not to use moisturizer, and I’m afraid I forgot to ask my dermatologist.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 років тому

      TiO2 is more effective in UVB, while ZnO does UVB and into the UVA range, so TiO2 should be combined w/ ZnO, as the combination of these particles assures a broad-band UV protection

    Hi Dr Dray, do you have a recommendation for laundry detergent, specifically for babies? Everyone recommends Dreft but Dreft has a very strong fragrance (and is also very expensive).
