It's very clear that they felt the flashbacks that soon into the game would have distracted from you getting to know the characters and I'm glad they didn't do it. FF7 already has one of the most frontloaded RPG intros ever, the last thing it needed was even more haha.
Agreed. There is so much world building to get out of the way, that the game is better for not leaning too hard into the creepy foreshadowing at first.
3:20 Hold up. Are you saying that when the Remake whipped Sephiroth out and rubbed him in our faces as soon as humanly possible, screaming "LOOK, IT'S THAT FAMOUS THING YOU REMEMBER! THIS IS THE GAME WITH THAT THING!" that was actually cut content from the original?
It’s interesting that they planned on having Sephiroth’s “spector” of sorts appear more often before scaling back-but in the new remake trilogy there are a lot more of these moments added back in.
Sephiroth was supposed to show up earlier in the story, but after the developers watched Jaws (no I'm not kidding), they liked how you didn't get to see the shark until later on in the movie, adding to the suspense of even knowing what the shark looked like. So they changed some aspects of FFVII to have Sephiroth appear on screen later in the game, after President Shinra was murdered with Sephiroth's sword in his back.
I like the Honey TV channel thing, that's really cool and a great way to show off a variety of future places and events, but more likely, a little something for re-players to reminisce over a long story pretty early in the game. Good job with the vid my man 👍
love finding out stuff about a game i've played since i was 7 years old - some of these little cut snippits feel like they'd fit right into some kind of analog horror story :o
Even though Last Elixir production made a whole video on just the early Sephiroth reveal, I find it nice you made a new video with new details. Even though what got me to click what that ‘cut’ sephiroth scene. I say ‘cut’ because in my head canon, considering it was last minute, it is probably possible it was cut to make room for more time for Cloud, Tifa and Barret to ‘breathe’. Both the early reveal and the Kalm reveal work for me. It was cut for making Sephiroth seem more terrifying and it fits…Even if it is not something I would have cut. Good job! I hope if you know that channel you two can collaborate. I wonder if the 7 source code hides more secrets like that Fusion Dance lmao 😂
1:30 "But something was wrong, instead of a close up of the map it was a closeup of Cloud and Jessy, except their faces were hyper-realistic. I didn't think much of it but then I noticed Jessy was missing her torso and Cloud was doing the stanky leg."
"The unofficial strategy guide of Final Fantasy VII by Versus Books mentions, on page 37, a strange enemy encounter that was supposedly removed in all but the game's original Japanese version. Climbing down the well at the beginning of the Corel Prison level would give players a very small chance of fighting these strange dog-like enemies. Supposedly, the enemies have 25,000 HP each, and they strangely don't attack you. Defeating these enemies supposedly nets the player 4,000 XP, 400 AP, and 40,000 gil. The encounter does indeed exist, but only in first-run prints of the Japanese version of the game. The chances of encountering the Test 0 enemies is incredibly small, so persistence and patience are necessary." This is the only one I knew about when I was a kid, because I had that guide.
It legit has so many cool little details, you can see how much care they put into that game. I personally don't have any doubts the third part is gonna be peak!

My favourite ff7 remake jaws reference is the beginning of Jenova dreamweaver
The kind of meta spooky stuff with Sephiroth were neat and would have tied into the story well too.

this made me go down a crazy rabbit hole LMAO been watching the hidden content a lot now
ff7 could defo have taken a darker route
Ff7 is so buggy and weird, it's probably got some of the weirdest stuff going on
A lot of the cut content reflects what ended up in the remake.
A video doing a direct comparison between the deleted content and the added remake content would be interesting.
And it was cut for good reason
That's why the remake project is terrible! Sakaguchi isn't there to reign them all in this time!
lol no they dont

Interesting. Seems they may have initially wanted FF7 to be a fair bit more disturbing, in a sort of psychological relation to Cloud.
