Imagine living a life where you don't remember playing John's piano for George Harrison. Mind fk.
Yeah, on one hand I love her music, she is super talented.
On the other, this is privileged af..
@@AppleJackApple I mean her dad is Ravi Shankar, obviously she's going to have known plenty of famous musicians..
During the early lockdown, Norah started doing some mini-concerts from her home and posting to YT. They were great.
They were such a tonic, they helped me through the lockdown
Yes they were! Those versions were unique. Just one voice and one instrument and so much soul.
I remember when I first heard her big hit and I went out and bought the CD. It’s one of the most beautiful performances ever. I’m not into music like some people are but it was fantastic!
I enjoy when Conan gets worked up about music, so have more musicians on please. Thanks
Conan's gonna have musicians as guests this entire month.
I agree. And she wasn't being condescending when she corrected him about being a musician. He led a band on tour!
As musician who plays background music at restaurants, I really appreciate hearing Norah explaining how it feels first hand. It can be pretty soul crushing. It has also opened me up to doing exactly what Conan does by applauding all performers so they know they are being heard. My wife always questions it to which I say they just want to know we are listening.
This crushes me a bit, because I was the one that 8-y.o. who would go to specific cafes (with mom obvi) to listen to the band.
Now i notice that "i was the weird one clapping", i was always so vocal on how rude people were not to clap. 😮
Btw, now i've played guitar, bass, drums, violin, mandolin, bongoes and harmonica😅
I may have started applauding musicians in restaurants even before I had performed in a restaurant. I want musicians who perform in public (even if they're not all that great) to know that I appreciate their efforts to lighten the load of living. The effort alone is noble. Even the impulse to make the effort is beautiful.
I have found myself being the only one clapping many times over the years. Doesn't bother me at all. I want them to know someone's paying attention. Never worry about what it looks like, just clap! You're not drawing attention to yourself, you're drawing attention to the musician(s). I've played at many parties over the years with our band, and MANY times have played a set without getting a whole lot of reaction. But then when we're on a break and chatting with people everyone will tell us how good it sounds, etc. At parties people are socializing and not as focused on the music so much - bar gigs are different. they're there to socialize, but a lot of them want to hear the music, too. Daytime parties are worse, I've found the later in the day it is the more likely people are to pay attention to the music. I've never played at a restaurant but have been at them when someone was playing, they're the worst as far as getting applause - people are there to eat and socialize, and it's hard to applaud when you're eating. :) I'll say it again - just clap!
I always love the comic-musician-dynamic. They always seem to be a bit of envious of the others tool bag, but in a nice way.
Her tribute fo Chris Cornell with "Black hole sun" just took me down completely. What a talent.
She's so sweet. One of my all time favourite singers.
I'm with Conan on this. If I'm at a restaurant I'm only expecting food, so getting a live performance as well is a huge bonus that should be appreciated with applause.
Also, can you imagine how you'd feel if you saw Norah Jones before she blew up and DIDN'T applaud just because you were too intent on your chicken tenders??
chimken tendies
before she blew up? i have no clue who this woman is. never heard of her
I mean when I'm not expecting live music I'm often there to have dinner with someone and actually talk to them. I love live music too, but in different circumstances. I'd choose a different place if I'm looking to catch up with friends and I knew there'd be a performance. Instead I feel bad for the performer *and* I either miss out on talking or ignore someone doing a tough gig.
Where the hell has this wonderful woman been hiding???😳. "Come Away With Me" is still one of my favourite "Easy Listening" Albums. It was a constant presence in my early 20's, whenever i wanted put on chilled music, whether i was cooking, cleaning, sleeping or generally just relaxing, i'd play it on repeat back-to-front. I also remember downloading a version of it (remember KAZAA? 😜), live in New Orleans, and it sounded even more spectacular, LIVE!!. "Cold Cold Heart" and "I've Got To See You Again" live, were breathtaking! This has brought back wonderful gowing up memories 😍
She has continued to ,ake albums steadily over the years….
It was a 1957 Duo Jet. The video of Conan holding it is online and amazing.
Norah seems like a very cool, down to earth person. I lilke watching her videos where she's playing at home with friends, and playing drums or guitar. Nothing fancy, just a couple of people having fun jamming. And sounding really good!
wow Norah is such a delight
I once played an acoustic set of Alice in Chains covers only to find out afterward that Jerry and Sean from Alice were backstage watching my band through the whole set. I was mortified.
Norah is so darn cute ♥️
I have been in love with her since I was 5
I was there when she played in Denton at my favorite hang out on the Square. She went to UNT and it was the perfect setting for her Smokey voice and song styling. Very romantic laid-back evenings then.
I love Norah's laugh
As a musician who plays at cafes and restaurants, I really do appreciate if at least one person claps. It totally makes our day to know that at least somebody is enjoying the music. Conan and Norah get how much that means to the performer. They really get it. And of course Conan is like that one person who claps even if it is awkward. That's why we love him.
What a true beauty inside and out. ❤
Btw Ravi Shankar’s performance at Woodstock (with the great Alla Rakha on tabla) was probably the highlight of the whole festival. Mesmerizing.
That guitar went from George Harrison to Conan O’Brien. Now we know the reason it weeps 😜
Great interview. In regards to playing while people are eating or drinking, I remember I was playing an open mike night in a bar. And I had diligently practiced this one song where the lead was difficult but played right was impressive. Just as I got to that part that I had worked on so hard, the margarita mixer/blender that was made from an old B-17 engine turned on roaring so loud it drowned out everything I was doing. All that work for nothing! But it was funny and I laughed afterwards! :)
What a great chat! Conan's own experience unravels a memory for a guest
Her dad is Ravi Shankar.
Was … Ravi Shankar
She's Anoushka Shankar's sister.
Who that?
@@anthonyarcanumsanctumregnu9551 really?
@@xploration1437 yeah who?.
Just love Conan! What an entertaining interview with Norah Jones!
I was having terrible day thanks for making me laugh.
Norah's concert in Juneau was great.
She is such a talent.
She’s so wonderful!
It’s nice to have audio quality making its way back to production…..!
She seems like a sweet and wonderful person. I'm glad she reconnected with Ravi.
I had no idea her father was an influencer to GH and she's put in the work i have alot more respect for her now.
Ravi Shankar was a legendary musician.
The whole family is gifted.
yeah her father basically popularized Hindustani music to the rest of the world, and holds the highest civilian honor award (Bharat Ratna) in our country.
Tha Allaire studios performance of the 20th anniversary with Bill Tony and Brian was absolutely out of this world!!!!!!!🙏
I wish the videos of Conan holding all of George Harrison’s guitars were still out there
Here's one:

Norah being humble. Nora Jones you are so amazing!
Norah's just the best.
What an amazing memory
Que mujer tan simpática, hermosa y sobre todo talentosa ❤❤❤❤
20 years later, I fell back in love with her. What a nice, telented, humble and beautiful woman.
She is a great talent.
Norah jones is such a beautiful woman with a sweet soul......she must be so fun to hangout with.
Awesome show
She has a beautiful voice and when I first heard her big hit I bought the disk. It’s amazing!
For the "Conan on TBS" playlist (5,000 videos), I hope the tech team could divide it by 500's, because whenever UA-cam app resets, or phone needs to restart, I have to scroll for a while to retrieve where I left off.. thanks
Speaking of playing for legends!! Norah Jones had on one of her albums two legends: Garth Hudson and Levon Helm!!
Conan is the best improv comedian in the biz. Hands down...
The dude can make fun out of anything he sees. He's also a magnified listener. He hears it all and can jump on the tiniest little thing that comes from your mouth. That's the mark of the best of them... think D. Rickels, J. Winter, R. Williams.
Great stuff! :)
Great story!
Funny some people here only know Ravi Shankar(?) and not Norah Jones. I've never even heard of her dad, but she is absolutely hands-down one of my favorite artists ever!!!
I had no idea her father Ravi Shankar. WOWZA
Love Norah Jones xx
:: The restaurant part reminds me of Kevin Hart's buffalo sauce anecdote :) ::
Awesome story.
Does anyone know what kind of jacket Conan has?
Teve um violinista que tocou Yesterday para John Lennon, num restaurante 🤣
I only know her as the great Pandit Ravi Shankar's daughter. I will look up her music now.
I knew her also as Anoushka Shankar's sister.
Norah Jones is so sweet and cool.
There was this Zach Galifianakis joke where he says he likes to go listen to music and in the middle of the performance he just shouts "I like the way your music makes me feel!! on the inside!!"
Love her
This reminds me of the scene in Balls of Fury when Randy's performing ping pong tricks for somebody eating a steak. He starts bouncing ping pong balls off his head or something and the guy dies of a heart attack costing him his job lol.
Interesting choice of a song since George was a huge fan of Hoagy Carmichael.
,,,,I am the proud owner of a Burly Guitar,(Jeff Ayers),,,,,with Conan Obrien face carved on the front......a donated gift to the show,comedian,,,.....that was unfortunately returned because of an issue with the neck,,,..........now it is displayed on my wall........so cool.......very happy to have this special instrument....pat,,,land o' lakes,wi.
Norah is my crush ❤️❤️
She is so sweet
Very cool.
1:26 Ravi Shankar
Love Norah.
this is great
Was the other woman on the panel Sarah McLaughlin? The looks great!
57 Gretsch DuoJet
Ravi Shankar would be proud of his daughter, Norah Jones
His dads house is called Friar Park and is a mansion.
Olivia, owns it now of course.
How lucky Sona is, to work with Conan.
But even more lucky for Conan, to work with Sona...
CONAN LIKEY
For anyone curious to hear what Norah played for George - "The Nearness of You" by Hoagy Carmichael: ua-cam.com/video/iWV01UuTTP8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=NorahJonesAllADream
That was nice :)
❤
Here's Nora singing the song she sang for George Harrison: ua-cam.com/video/hsczuCzyUs4/v-deo.html
Thank you
So watching this I didn’t know who Jone’s dad was, then I looked it up. Yep I’d say Ravi had a big roll in George’s life!
Cool story about heading over to George’s house, though I’m not really buying she didn’t know who George was.
I didnt know who her dad was either..........Yeah, I would say Ravi had a huge influence on George!
Sounds like it was Paul's piano...
I thought the same thing. He uses that in concert .very similar description.
I do the slow, John Bender sarcastic clap & I don't stop until security escorts me out.
She's cute 😘😘😘
1957 Duo Jet; not 1963
First time I hear her talk abt her dad.
George loved Hogey Carmichael music.
Imagine forgetting that experience
nice and funny, also interesting.
Oh, Ravi Shankar's daughter.
Am I the only one who didn't know who she was without Googling it?
Weel, George was a giant Hoagy fan so I'm sure he loved that you chose that one.
Cool sheesh if that don't beat all. HugsB
Not sure who her dad is but she was nice and let Conan get the attention which he needs to survive lol
Pandit Ravi Shankar, a legendary Indian classical musician.
Her Dad taught George Harrison to play sitar and essentially allowed him to bring Indian music to Western pop culture
I never thought that redhead 👨🦰 guy was funny but Nora is a beautiful talented woman.
A-COCKA-ROOOOO!!!
I watched this video while eating scrambled eggs.
George Harrison loved Hoagy Carmichael.
Didn't know Norah's father is Ravi Shankar *head explodes*
I wonder how much George had to give Yoko for that piano....
Sounds like Paul's piano,as he painted a rainbow 🌈 on his.
Sounds like Paul's piano.
No I think it was the “The Fool” piano. She said it was very colorful and psychedelic looking. Conan is right, it's in the background of the Anthology jam session Paul, Ringo and Gorge do.
George was a big Hoagy Carmichael fan
Another George which is George Michael who was bought John Lennon's white piano at Imagine music video on Christie's auction. Sadly GM was passed away and never heard again about 2023 white piano news
Keep forgetting she's Ravi's daughter.
she's good looking
