Consider this a warning to all people interested in the BMW 550i: the engine used in this vehicle (and other models of BMW) is known as the N63, also known as one of the most unreliable engines BMW has ever produced. DO NOT buy this car without a mechanical inspection, warranty, or if you have the cash purchase a 2014 and up 550i as they had an updated engine. The N63 had a plethora of problems including turbos, oil seals, oil consumption, etc. Misfires & hydrolocking are also common with this engine. As I stated before I'd highly recommend getting the 2014 plus 550i as you get 50 more horsepower, and a far more reliable engine.
Ascendancy yea my uncle has one and he put a lot of money into it and now bmw can’t get there own to run right 🤔
LT1 Owner yeah I’ve seen a few people get burned by this engine because the models it is in are starting to get really cheap. Happens to the best of us.
That explains why there are tons of 2010- 2011 750i for sale dirt cheap here in Europe?
Now I know why. 😲😲🤨
I have this car, since 2014, not a single problem, therefore i don't believe all these unreliable nonsense.
Ig fr tho?
i feel like its only a matter of time before this guy is one of three with douge and hoovies
Car most definitely was ahead of its time
The shifter that you are not sure of, is referred to as a " Steptronic shifter " , One of my favorite things about my 550i ! The blinker goes back up on my 2008. One press on the blinker makes it blink 3 times. Holding down, will have it continuous blink .
idk aboat you guys but Zack feels nice, funny , like idk you should be more famous you deserve it
BMW designed the turn signal stalk to discourage usage
It’s actually triple turn signals so you hit it light for lane switch and all the way for turning duh your no bmw guy obviously
😂😂😂
Exactly
I like this dude subscribed innit bruv
"I'm bothered don't know why, but why bother if you're bothered when we are bothered because it's absolutely bothering me and always bothers me always bothered when I'm bothered because I don't understand what's bothering me"
Just picked one of these up for 8k. They’re horribly unreliable and not for the faint of heart. However, if you can find the right one then they’re an absolute steal. My 2011 had the motor replaced in 2015 and only has 30k on it 🙏
I bought my 550i 2 years ago! For 22k with 47k miles and I'm still in love with it
What year is it ? And has it been reliable ??
@@OmarGarcia-qp9tt 2011, and yes. Only routine maintenance has been done to it.
How many miles you at now?
@@kushkid1900 87k miles
How is the oil consumption? Any engine issues ?
There is two settings for blinker, one that stays on other one that turns off…
First car for me what y’all think ?
The reviewer seems to not understand the shift knob. You only press the side button when initially shifting into gear from park, or shifting from R to D (or vice versa). To Park, just press the big P button at the apex of the shifter face. Once you're in Drive, tapping the knob to the left engages Engine Sport mode (aggressive shifting) and also allows you to tapshift fwd or back thru the gears. The stick will return to left-center between taps automatically, and will return to true center when you hit Park no matter what mode it is in.
@Ascendancy are 328i 2013 a reliable car ? Looking into getting one soon.
It maybe that you need to take foot off pedal when you change to Sport ?? This because it is a different set up and will change down.
Good review.
Like jay z said "my glove box is locked and you gonna need a warrant for that" that's why its locked they were thinking for drug dealers lol
bmw is always ahead of it's time.
“These are manual you have to move em like a peasant 😂🤌🏼😭
Amazing car
Nice bratan
AYE ITS TO BRIGHT
One of these recently popped up in my area (in Australia). Looks really nice, has that traditional BMW or European sedan look to it, with a black exterior and beige seats. Are they any reliable at all? Is the 550i the one to avoid or look for in this generation of 5-series?
how much was it selling for? i bought one and it runs great so far thankfully
I’m disappointed that BMW change the blinker sadly 😓
Nice review. Ps. My 2001 540i has the same powered rear sunshade. Whenever it goes up and down I imagine a tiny little German man in a lab coat is sitting on the rear parcel shelf, operating the blind XD
My mum drives this gen 5 series but manual 😎
Nice
Hows the engine?
I own a 2009 550i 4.8L, I get they want to make good gas mpg but I have to get a newer one ima miss the power
Are you insane the F10 will blow your doors off
@@andrewcunningham4570 Oh well there’s a typo in my message I am now on an M3 in 2018 I had a 2009 550i
As for currently owning a 2011 550i (the same spec as the one reviewed) if you are good on engine maintenance as well as a handful of preventative maintenance items, you will be sitting pretty in a vehicle that’s style/age/performance is timeless. My car is pushing 160k miles with no issues and still represents itself like it did when I bought it pre-owned at 30k miles. Overall a very fantastic and rewarding car to drive although if you plan on purchasing I would take a ppi into consideration as well as a LONG service record history so you may see how it was handled in previous hands.
So I’ve brought one a month ago should I be worried?
@@SemajaThomas hows it going for you?
Jordan Fleming so far so good!
i saw this 2011 550i for sale with a brand new engine with 7000 miles and the description says not rebuilt its brand new would that be a good deal? its for 14k
@@bubba9850 Post 2016 all N63s have upgraded valve stem seals. You're good.
I am buying my first 2011 550ia tomorrow at an auction with only 102k miles. Silver in color with gray interior. Advice?
Neil P71 did you buy it?
@@michaelcollins7321 I ended up buying a 2007 750LI black 100k miles and a 2008 552xi both in great shape and I honestly love both. I will be posting a few videos soon. I also didnt want to buy a turbo from what I read too many issues so I went with the 4.8L instead. We will see how things go. Thanks for asking
It also has comfort+ u missed
Locking centre console is for hand gun!!!
I'm asking what is the difference between the 550xi and 550i??
X means all wheel drive, while the i is Rear Wheel Drive
Thanks for helping 😊
Nice video, but you can tell you not educated on the 550i or BMW . Keep up the good work!
Why arn,t you at 100k subs
We want you to talk about reliability of the engine!!!
I’ve heard the 550i has injector problems. Get the 535i
UnknownProwess 535i has 100 less hp lmao
Who cares if you have to pay 3 grand fixing them on a car that only costs like 12 grand
@@UProductions457 535i uses the same injectors.
@@andrewcz8871 Oh ok. I think the reliable one is the 528i.
Hey Zack
Hey
8:45 ran over a child
Fun fact on it being ahead of its time: it was actually designed in 2005!
