The Troughton placement is criminal, Happiness patrol and Silver Nemesis making up half a season gets 25 an S rank but Evil, Power, Tenth planet, Macra, and Moonbase only pushes 4 to a B!? What were you smoking lads?

So great that you guys did a classic season ranking & definitely agree with the S Tier but I would swop Season 14 & 7 to the A Tier & put 12 & 19 up to the S Tier 😄 & thank heavens ya gave Season 5 that well deserved boost Matthew. If ever they find some missing eps them there eps are ones I’d wanna see. Really enjoyed this lads & definitely would watch Season 15 over New Who Season 9, Ya’s really are classic series purests like meself lol 😆
Season 26 is my fave classic series for sure. Fenric being my fave story ever for classic.
Billy calling Castrovalva "the coolest you can be while being beige as fuck" is one of the most accurate descriptions of any doctor who series ever 😂

Fun watch this one. Would be interesting to see how far people would get starting from Season 15 all the way to season 13 in your order. My tier list would probably be quite similar to this. Interesting how season 25 & 26 up in top tier yet Michael Grade would axe it, shows what a fool he was in retrospect.

Excellent video, the time just flew by and your enthusiasm and affection for the classic series comes through really strongly in undertaking this epic feat!
Personally, I'd have put 12 in the S tier and 25 in A - whilst it's a good season, I feel that Remembrance does most of the heavy lifting!
I’d have all Pat’s seasons on A personally, a definite step up from the hartnel era in my opinion

Yeah, in hindsight, I think we were insane doing that to Troughton over Hartnell!
I think Billy in particular is a bit too harsh on Troughton over the years.

I’ve still never got through all of Shada, and I’ve owned the video, the original DVD and now the blu ray version. Will have to give that one a go.
I think I'll do my favourite/ least favourite of each decade:
60's
Favourite - Season 2 (heavily biased as its the season that made me fall in love with classic who)
Least favourite - Season 3 (unfortunately, because its the only season I have notable gaps in due to so many missing eps, master plan is incredible though)
70's
Favourite- Season 7 (duh)
Least favourite - Season 15 (mostly forgettable imo, would of been 17, but that is raised by city and I also count shada)
80's
Favourite - 25 (ask me on another day though, and it might be 26)
Least Favourite- Season 24 (made me question whether I should carry on with McCoy, but im so very glad that I did as his later stuff is some of the strongest who across the entire show)
the top 3 seasons for me. Season 7, Season 12 and Season 25 .
Im itching for the season 7 blurays. Hopefully not too long, although I suspect they need some TLC. The sad thing is theres barely anyone still alive from this era 😢.
Nice rankings and strong logic. As a Boomer I lost interest in Doctor Who after Tom Baker ( My era was Hartnell to Baker).
However as an adult I've learnt to retrospectively appreciate Doctors 5-7. While I'm surprised McCoy's ranked so highly,Doctor Who resonates most with the age you started watching and the emotional connection. So as your personal ranking totally fair.
It's a pleasure to see younger fans such as yourselves explore and appreciate Classic Doctor Who . Let's be honest some of it is a tough watch.
I'm currently working my way through classic Who. Finished City of Death a while ago but I must say, going from City of Death to Creature from the pit is like a slap in the face.
You need to claim compensation from the Graham Williams estate.
I don’t even like City. The only story I enjoy from 17 is Nightmare Of Eden. And even thats flaky. Was horrible watching this stuff in real time and being of an age where my love for Who was waining a bit. City killed Who for me until I randomly watched Kinda ! Then I jumped back on.
I can't believe just how much I agreed with you guys. Everything apart from season 18 I was totally on board with. I'd put 18 at the top of D tier.

Season 15 should be higher in my opinion. The Sun Makers is one of my favourite stories

Season 5 is great, if a bit samey. I was lucky to see Wheel In Space when it was aired ( and the Evil Of The Daleks repeat) and thought it was so exciting 😂. I know its not a favourite story these days but it really hits me in the nostalgia zone whenever I listen to the soundtrack. Gemma Coryn’s death left me a gibbering mess 😊.
Season 18 in A tier?! Yeah it’s a breath of fresh air, but I’ve rewatched that recently…
The Leisure Hive = crap, 3/10
Meglos = lots of fun, 7/10
Full Circle = crap, 3/10
State of Decay = great, best of the season, 9/10
Warriors Gate = another crap, 4/10
Keeper = I really like, 7/10
Logopolis = so disappointing 5/10
How on earth season 19 with Time Flight, Four to Doomsday and Castrovalva was rated higher than all the 60s seasons is something I will never understand lol
Eh Hello EARTHSHOCK trumps a lotta 60s eps & so what if 3 episodes in the running outta budget last story suck . Visitation, Kinda Castrovalva & Black Orchid are all Top notch watches Four to Doomsday is still a great story but slightly weaker . Season 19 is definitely an S grouping & If they made the show more like that now instead of the forgettable muck they are putting out they might have a lasting series that people buy on video then DVD and then blu- ray again yes the same series I have 3 times because it’s just so blooming good 👍.
@@10enant43 personally (to take one season for an example) if I looked at season 6 in the same way, you have three dud stories in The Dominators, The Krotons, and The Space Pirates (although I like The Space Pirates but from a general view it is bad), but then the rest is good - similar to season 19. Which set of stories is better?

Kinda, The Visitation, Black Orchid, Earthshock
IMO the season 6 option is way better but I guess im the only one who thinks that. But then again I like The Space Pirates so something must be wrong with me.
Oh of course there’s nothing wrong with you I’m the person who loves The Dominator’s for god’s sake because I know it’s followed by The Mind Robber & the Invasion I count it as all part of the series Journey . Look we all love original Doctor Who Well most of us commenting here and deciding which series is better even though we love em all is a tricky enough job so whether it’s season 6 or season 19 that edges slightly into the Top group it’s no biggy I’m just happy that the whole New Who overshadowing the original series is well & truly over and there’s a definite longing for the series to return to it’s original Loved show 🎊 🎉🥳

My favourite season has to be 4, because it just has the perfect mix in my opinion
I agreed with a lot of what you said here, but I struggled to have any "instant choices" when you asked on Twitter because every bad season has its gems, and every great season has its duds, imo! That's part of the joy of Doctor Who though, I think.

Matthew, I thought you let Billy guide your opinion quite a lot. Every time you made a suggestion he ended up turning it around and subsequently you changed your mind. I thought some of your first choices were sensible. Thats not to say I thought Billys choices were wrong - far from it. Put your foot down, lad 😀.
I think Hartnell is a pretty consistently great era throughout, having recently re-watched them all.

It's puzzling to someone who was a kid in the '70s and worshipped the Third and especially Fourth Doctors and also loved the Fifth, that you guys rate (I think dismal) McCoy Dr Who so highly. Because you're a different generation, maybe? When it was broadcast even Dr Who fans kind of hated his stories, thought they looked cheap and that the acting was wayward.
Agree with most of the list, just a few niggles for me - I really like season 25, but is it better than season 12...? Not even nearly IMHO. Season 9 over season 8...? I wouldn't think twice about swapping those two round. All subjective fun though.

That was fun and your list is pretty similar to mine...but season 25! Seriously? Comparing with season 17 you've got City of Death vs the over-rated (but still good) Remembrance, Shada (under-rated imo) vs GSITG and Nightmare of Eden vs Bertie Basset! The rest of both seasons is mostly crap.
Don't see how you put '25' four tiers higher than '17' based on that, even with your bias to the McCoy era. We all have our opinions but come on, that's just plain wrong!

Season 9 - didn't enjoy the dalek story opener and Sea-devils was creepy for two episodes before going rapidly downhill. Season 11 - only liked Time Warrior. Dinosaurs was ok.

You lost me when you put S8 in B tier over two McCoy seasons in S tier. I switched off at that point.
I would definitely have put S8 in at least A tier. Not as strong as S7 but still great.

Seasons 25 and 26 were the peak of Doctor Who, for me (aside from the unforgivably underwhelming and inept 25th anniversary story). Inventive, imaginative, progressive... awesome.
For me, Seasons 5, 7, 12, 13 and 26 are S tier and I simply love the rest (not you Season 24)
I actually really like Series 9 tbh i dont think a series with Heaven Sent can be that low
