Back when I was a teen or young adult, I used to do jobs for my grandpa at his stables. There would be long periods where he would have to go pick up lunch and/or do other things, so he would let me hang out in the office while he was out. He allowed me to use the computer that was in there to play games. I had a Warcraft disc, so decided to play that. Managed to beat the whole entire game, although I forgot if it was all in one sitting, or over multiple sessions.

cbrman87 wc1 was harder in some ways. It moves much faster, so if you aren’t careful you’ll lose basically within the first minute on some levels. Each Warcraft game got progressively slower. However the complexity of war 1 was slower so it was easier in that it was straightforward what to do. You just had to be alert and move quick to do it.
I am Japanese, but this is the game I was hooked on when I was an elementary school student 25 years ago. Although it was interesting, I felt a little superior because this kind of game was not popular in Japan at that time.
_"Even these children of the underworld are no match for Azeroth's steel."_ _"Cheers of victory come from the troops, as the last Orcish hordes crumbles to the ground."_ _"The forces of darkness have been soundly defeated!"_ The narrator nails the victory quotes.

My dad was like 40 years old and he figured out how to set all this up from reading a computer book from the book store (there was no cell phone for looking up instructions) he set this game up with MSDOS and it was like the coolest thing ever. I would stand there next to the computer while one of my parents played it. It was so incredible and intense. The orcs being slain and their gory little remains plopping on the earth. It was frightening.
I wanted to boot up the game myself but ended up watching this longplay instead. The memories man... But I could no longer stand it after 54:24 as I was beginning to go insane with the "Yes, yes, yes. Yes my lord. Yes. Your will sire? Yes, yes, yes." Still, major props on a game well played!
I played the hell out of Warcraft 2 but this is my first time seeing the original. I'm honestly kind of surprised at how similar the two are, in some places this actually even looks superior
i remember when i was a my Dad would move his entire army one by one. this went on for a long time until i accidently came across pressing shift to move four people at a time. it was a game changer for both of us!
I did the same thing during summer when I was a kid. Became obese because of it, started having spine problems because of excesive sitting, had no friends and eventually developed depression, but it was still fun to play.
So, when I first heard 'World of Warcraft' I was sure it meant an RTS but the whole of Azeroth. I convinced myself it was going to be a game somewhat like Total War where your goal would be to conquer the world (for alliance or the horde). ... I was so wrong.
This is currently the best playthrough of wc1 on youtube. Nice and clean, and you are quite efficient. But i am a bit upset about your sometimes blatant disregard of your troops. More systematic approach would save more lives. But you are quite fast though, i would probably use more time to save more lives. And you got lucky on the last quest...
123TauruZ321 Thx! :) I've gotten used to newer RTS games where there are quick keys for units and buildings so I don't need to always control every single thing separately. I guess this is why I sometimes send units to their deaths, cause I trust they can do more good by offensive action instead of sitting around doing nothing. Also, it's likely clear that I was emphasizing clear time over kill / loss ratio in this playthrough. However, unit control is indeed where I need to improve micro regarding new RTS games as well. The last quest was probably the first blind attempt on that mission so I wasn't expecting the cued rush at the end. Got little suspense in the video so I didn't replay the mission for more optimized results.
I getcha. Yes, i like that you use hotkeys, i generally like intelligent gameplay. I currently have windows vista and can't get it to run there.. What kind of system did you run it on?
123TauruZ321 the game was cleared after he got 8 wizards. after that he didn't need the base as he could just spam endless elementals. it would be more balanced if each wizard just had one mana bar of spells and otherwise act as a normal range unit.
I'm a Command & Conquer series fan (except Generals and 4, I found them boring) and I never played Warcraft RTS series. I owned them since their release but I never tried to finish them. Just a few times I played with them. I have a friend that is in love with the series and he is still playing WoW, but he will get married soon... :P Yesterday I've started playing with the first part and of Warcraft. Good old DOS memories. Last spring and summer I created two vintage machines only for pure DOS and Windows 95 experience. (386DX40, 16MB RAM, CL5422 1MB, ESS688F and Pentium MMx, 32MB RAM, Nvidia TNT2 M64, ESS1868F).

After see *StarCraft 2* videos it make me realize that *Blizzard* could continue with the *Warcraft series*. I would love to see *Warcraft 1* and *2* and all their cut-scenes and cinematic get a HD touch/remake, to match their current cinematic, and the growing trend of HD remasters brings some of the best classic gaming titles back to life. Publishers get to re-release proven titles and fans get to relive some of their favorites and for new one to experience them. A great HD remaster is a win-win for everyone and of course making a remaster/remake isn't easy though.
Developers have to improve on aspects of the original titles, while keeping the timing, animation, and spirit that players remember but they could also had new things that they couldn't had before because the limitation back then. It requires programming and design effort and in some ways, a remaster/remake can be as difficult as making an original title but not impossible, I mean if a group of fans could remake *Resident Evil 2* what is stopping Blizzard to remake/remaster Warcraft 1 and 2?

Footmen are good at beginning to protect long enough to get archers and if you want a meat shield for the archers. They can also be a target for catapults if you station them a few tiles in front so you can run the archers away and get something to the catapult to take it down.
