It's a very difficult program to learn, but I'm not giving up. I keep watching these tutorials over and over, as I slowly progress myself to become better. I've had about 2 years of experience with cameras and movies, and I know that I'll be able to master this too. Every time I look at all the animations, it motivates me to keep going. Patience is mostly the key, to keep working with something like this. I wouldn't say that since I love movies and work with cameras, I shouldn't use this. But I'm learning it, because I want to create stories. I'm gonna tame this motherfucker.

this program is gonna be how I FINALLY learn 3d animation. I won't have to get lost in the weeds of blender, I love that program but you have to go through so much just to get to the animation part of the pipeline if you make stuff from scratch.

been wanting to work on something Team fortress 2 related for years, now in 2023 (almost going into 2024) im gonna take up the challenge! TF2 has been a big apart of my life ever since 2010 and its allowed me to make friends, have great memories and even get me into doing things i wouldnt normally have thought possible. i guess SFM was the next big step for me and now i cant wait to see whats in store for the future!
I have a pretty low-end PC, so is there any way to increase framerate/performance? I get, at best, six FPS and it takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to load a map. My computer crashed three times trying to activate the "work camera" alone. This seems like a fun program and I just want to know if there's any way I can make it usable for my computer.
The only thing I can think of which will help frame rate is, right click as you would to load map but go to render settings and deselect Progressive Refinement and Ambient Occlusion and click OK. There isn't really anything that can be done for your map load times via software. I would suggest saving up and buying upgrades for your PC, one of the best upgrades for loading times would be a SSD.
Abhijit Dey I just realised that turning off Ambient Occlusion while i'm doing the stuff gives me a load more fps. Even tho' i get the damn white speckles and stuff...

Most maps that start with _arena__ will lower you to about 10 FPS. So don't do that. Right click when the map is loaded, and uncheck Enable Lighting and Progressive Refinement. Then in the right-click menu, click Render Settings, and uncheck Ambient Occlusion. Hope it helps.
+The Jaj If you are still having this problem, when you are on SFM go to the top left third along should be "Windows", Click this then go to the bottom of the drop down. You should see layouts Hover over this with your mouse and you should see at the top "Return to default layout" click this and this will resolve your problem. What probably happend is that on your first time using SFM you closed all the windows but yeah this will resolve the empty screen. DW your computer is fine xD

(if you wanna know what i am making, it's a Tom and Jerry inspired Short called Spy and Pyro)

I'm not on a Mac. I'm glad you're proud that your PC can play video games. My Mac that I have can play all those "PC-exclusive" games too. But mostly when I need to edit video for my job and make a living in the real world, I go onto my Mac, because it gets that done more efficiently. That's just the truth. Good question, ask them. Probably a similar reason TF2 was originally only available for PC. They take it one step at a time. That doesn't disprove my points concerning what Macs do for the economy.
I hate having to wait for it to update, that took so long, I was forced to animate a project in 2d, and I got that done before it finished updating. At least you didn't have to pay to go crazy mad with this one. Guess music with heavy bass stereo quality has to be done in an external video editor, and actually SFM is seriously strict on voice over compression too.

For all the people who gets lag , i recommend right click in the screen window and go to render settings and change the "AO only" to "Outiline only".

when I try to load the map SFM freezes... (I have an intel I7 CPU, 4G ram and a GTX 650TiBoost GPU...
oh and after freezing for 1 min. it works normally with the map loaded :)

As long as it's a source compatible map it should be good to go, obviously anything not running on source won't work in the SOURCE movie maker.
