  • In part 2 of our pose-to-pose animation tutorial, let's go a little deeper into "blocking". We'll start from the single pose we created in in part one and block in a simple performance. We'll cover a lot of ground today, so get ready, the tutorial is a bit longer and a lot more in depth.

    OK let me give you guys my advice. If you are very very new to SFM do not watch this tutorial. Seriously it might sound like japanese to you guys. If you watched the previous tutorial, then great. I know that everyone wants to make those cool animations but really, after making the movement in this tutorial you wont remember any of the basics. BEFORE making animations I HIGHLY suggest making posters. They are fun, easy, and you will learn how to navigate through bones, cameras, and controls. Going right into animations will do nothing but stress you the hell out. BELIEVE ME I'm here to help m8s!

    • @BordyDogue
      @BordyDogue 10 років тому +26

      Exactly my story. I Immediatly wanted to make high-quality smooth animations, but I quickly realised that was step was a little too much. So I kept it easy and made posters to practice with posing. Now I'm getting a little into these pose-to-pose animations, hopefully it will work out.

    1: Make sure you're on the clip editor.
    2: Right click to find time code display (Right click where the bookmarks get placed)
    3: Set it to "Timecode: Second"
    Then you can see decimals when zooming in the timeline. I hope this helps :)

    The values he was entering were based on how the Spy is rotated, and what side he was trying to view him from. Yours is probably different, as was mine. All you really need to do is manually move the camera as close to the rotation you want as possible, then double-click on 'rot', and round the last value up/down to 0, or positive or negative 90 or 180 - whatever's closest. All the other values still go to zero. Hope that helps. :P

    Help? I separated three little regions of time, I did my first pose and went on to the next. When I finished that pose I went back to the first pose and the arm was messed up. My problem is that every time I do a new pose it overrides the previous pose. For example, one pose I have scout's arm in a resting pose. In the next region of time I have it up in a high-five like position. I go back into the first pose and magically it's changed it position to a high-five looking pose. I put it back down to rest then go to the second frame, and magically the high-five pose I did in the second frame is now a resting hand pose. I really need some help, I'm getting real steamed. Also, when the guy in the tutorial moves a bodypart, the editor stays a shade of green, mine turns orange. Are these two thing related? Thanks for any help I get.

    I'm kinda new to SFM, but I have to say that for everyone having issues with the motion editor or can't keep up with this tutorial that well, I recommend using the graph editor. It's a little bit easier. You just bookmark one point in time and make a pose then bookmark another point and make another pose. Lol

    • @mia_bentzen
      @mia_bentzen 10 років тому

      Ben Turner all animation is made like this (well if you use the graph editor) and it isnt easy. you need to know the 12 princeples of animation, learn to pose, acting, ect

    • @benturner7991
      @benturner7991 10 років тому

      CubeGames Official That doesn't change the fact this makes it a lot easier to animate. And "all animation is made 'like' this", doesn't mean this is an exact representation if you were to animate on any other program. It is easy, just tedious.

    • @mia_bentzen
      @mia_bentzen 10 років тому

      Ben Turner try making good animation yourself then, yes it is easy if you use the record thing or the motion editor. but the graph editor is the exact same as a program called maya, which is used by pixar.

    Hey, I dont know too much but I will tell you that you need to use falloffs, hold shift and use the mousewheel to scroll out falloffs and then drag them into place. Just play around with these for a while until you get it, sorry I dont know enough to explain it better

  • @Daucus

    If you accidentally use permanent marker then just use a 50/50 solution of isopropanol and water. Keep rubbing and rubbing until it's all gone. If it's not going away, lay your monitor flat, let the mixture sit for a few seconds on the marker, then rub! Repeat until you aren't crying anymore. Cheers.

    i learned a-lot in the past 24 hours, and im currently using the graph editor to do all my animation (its time consuming, and not as smooth as i would have though.)
    unfortunately, I'm still not sure how to animate "pose to pose" Like i get the concept, clearly.
    but what in gods name buttons do you press to actually do the animation? you glossed over it and idk what you actually did (2:50)
    I see the round preset, but i have no clue how to use it on anything, well yet.
    anyway, i love valve (free software ftw) and this is so cool, cant wait to release some stuff once i learn more.

      I got it to work, you must have the whole character selected, at the animation set editor.'
