@@KaransPotsAndGlass Thank you so much. I love using tar paper for making pottery. My bf (the one with the kiln) makes lidded pots, but does not glaze the rim and fires them together. Of course that leaves the inside edge raw fired clay which is kinda rough. Anxious to see your method.
That is the very method I use too! Slab construction has a greater tendency to warp- so I always fire lids on! Of course, a fine abrasive pad can polish those rougher unglazed areas after it is glaze fired! (Just like polishing bottoms!)

Where can I find this tar paper? Is it the felt roll?
At home improvement stores- in the roofing section!
