Opeth wins, but whats about Gojira is that their riffs are sublimed by the drums over them. I learned when I was all gojira songs on drums and once I wanted to learn on my brothers guitar some Gojira songs and I was like... Now I realise how important the drums are.
Opeth is #1. Every Opeth song has as many riffs as most other bands have in an entire album. Also, in this day and age of super low tunings/"heaviness" - it's always a great reminder to realize with how heavy and brutal Opeth is... with the exception of a couple songs in drop D they're all in standard tuning haha.
Honestly just for me you picked some pretty good but not amazing Meshuggah riffs, whereas the other two bands really had some of their best. A good example of a sick riff that leaves an impression from Meshuggah is that born in dissonance riff at 03:14 or the one at 01:26. Maybe that one riff in Pravus at the breakdown. 02:18 soul burn too. MY GOD they were good live just last month. Blew my mind even tho I saw the exact same setlist mid 2022. There's just something about the whole thing live incl. the light show that makes me headbang harder than almost any other band live. Those guitars sound like a train hitting you live.

What I mean is, basically while Opeth has a lot more clear traces from different styles, Gojira's style is very original, and they have a lot of "How the fuck did you write that!?" moments. (Specifically their stuff from 2003 to 2012) I do love both bands equally though 👌

Like for example how they manage to make a major dyad somehow sound so dissonant and intense despite it simply being a major dyad. I can't think of any bands that came before Gojira that used their tropes, but with opeth, I can hear that they listened to a lot of 70s prog because they share a lot of similarities in song structure and approach to writing melodies. I don't think more complex necessarily equates to "more creative" if that's what we're arguing about, but I think creative is a very subjective word, so I don't think any of us are right or wrong here. (It's funny because I personally prefer Meshuggah to both of these bands haha)
