Hell yea, tremolo picking between the chugs is so simple yet so groovy. With down picking, you get punchier sound with stronger pick attacks, that's why I tend to stick to down picks until certain fast tempos. If it's reasonable and preferable soundwise, I choose down picking over alternate picking. Thanks for your comment mate!

Fantastic playing! My favorite riff is the bending-madness after the more melodic intro in Gift of Guilt. The first time I heard it I was convinced I've never heard anything like that before being done on the guitar.
Thanks, dude! I think I was exposed to great tapping playing from EVH, that's why it didn't blow me away like that, but of course Gift of Guilt has a beautiful melody, particularly with its lyrical theme, it hits like a damn rock!
Great riff choices man! Also, the way you hold your guitar pick is wild! Misha from Periphery used to hold his guitar pick in a similar way, but he eventually changed it to a more "proper" technique after seeing how Jake and Mark use the proper technique. He changed it because the way he used to hold it placed limitations on what he could do. I believe you can find the video of him talking about that on UA-cam. Anyway, sick playing man!

I have a video where I show how I go about recording guitar covers. There you can see the method I use to get a good sound. For this one, I used Archetype Gojira and recorded guitar on two tracks and panned them hard left and right. That's the basic trick for getting a good full-sounding guitar tone(double tracking). Born in Winter is probably my favourite for L'Enfant Sauvage, I feel like it's underappreciated! Fortitude as an album might just be my favourite Gojira album. It perfectly encapsulates the sound they've been working at for the last 10 years, amazing album

Coming from a lot of NuMetal and Grunge I wasnt that much into heavier music but last year, Gojira really did it for me. Their music feels so full, it's got everything, it's heavy but still melodic and even got a message. I really enjoy it!

Another world, I wondered what band made that riff. I heard it one day on the xfinity metal channel (930? Maybe idk) but I heard it and figured out what they were doing in a couple mins and I play that riff from time to time plus mutations of that idea concept
I used to listen to terra incognita and the link front to back nearly a daily basis throughout high school. Blow me away you(niverse), rememberance, lizard skin, in the forest, etc some of the nastiest riffs I've ever heard

Before i go on this tangent, i just want to make clear that this video is GREAT. What i'm about to say really has nothing to do with this video because all of the covers are truly flawless, but it did remind me of something i've asked for a long time. Why does everybody go crazy over that break down from remembrance? I know, its played very technically and is kinda bouncy, but its just open d, and whenever the song is talked about its always just that same goddam breakdown. It also doesn't help that i feel that the entire rest of the song is way better than the breakdown and i feel its getting discredited. Anyways, tangent over, great cover. I feel like it's polyrhythmic in a way that not too alienizing to the listener, it's not like a Meshuggah riff that blows you away and then makes you give up on trying to keep up with the song. It's bouncy for sure but in a little teasing way that keeps you engaged throughout the outro, tastefully written. I think many great and iconic riffs are made out of just one note, especially with chugs and cool rhythms. Also, the context of the song is very important, in my opinion. Sometimes dynamic structure and other times the buildup that leads to that riff gives that heaviness. The rest of the song is overlooked, sadly. Cheers!
Maybe a couple of hours. Honestly, if you only listen without seeing the notes, it feels harder than it actually is. Then I go from extremely slow to learn the pattern, and after memorizing it, I speed it up. And voilà! haha

Umm I think it was just regular dropped C. Why you chose 448hz is it because of that tape effect thing(similar to the ride the lightning)where it slightly makes the notes sharper because it's sped up a little? .I'm asking because don't know much about that technical stuff :)

Another world, I wondered what band made that riff. I heard it one day on the xfinity metal channel (930? Maybe idk) but I heard it and figured out what they were doing in a couple mins and I play that riff from time to time plus mutations of that idea concept

Man, Gojira used to be so good. Love all the riffs up to and through way of all flesh in this video.
They still kick ass, IMO. I personally love pretty much their whole discography and appreciate their search for new sounds, and evolvement in different directions as artists. Before i go on this tangent, i just want to make clear that this video is GREAT. What i'm about to say really has nothing to do with this video because all of the covers are truly flawless, but it did remind me of something i've asked for a long time. Why does everybody go crazy over that break down from remembrance? I know, its played very technically and is kinda bouncy, but its just open d, and whenever the song is talked about its always just that same goddam breakdown. It also doesn't help that i feel that the entire rest of the song is way better than the breakdown and i feel its getting discredited. Anyways, tangent over, great cover.

I feel like it's polyrhythmic in a way that not too alienizing to the listener, it's not like a Meshuggah riff that blows you away and then makes you give up on trying to keep up with the song. It's bouncy for sure but in a little teasing way that keeps you engaged throughout the outro, tastefully written.
I think many great and iconic riffs are made out of just one note, especially with chugs and cool rhythms. Also, the context of the song is very important, in my opinion. Sometimes dynamic structure and other times the buildup that leads to that riff gives that heaviness.
The rest of the song is overlooked, sadly. Cheers!

Maybe a couple of hours. Honestly, if you only listen without seeing the notes, it feels harder than it actually is. Then I go from extremely slow to learn the pattern, and after memorizing it, I speed it up. And voilà! haha

I tune my guitar to Dropped C (A=448hz) for The Gift of Guilt. I find that tuning is more accurate. How do you tune your guitar for that song?
Umm I think it was just regular dropped C. Why you chose 448hz is it because of that tape effect thing(similar to the ride the lightning)where it slightly makes the notes sharper because it's sped up a little? .I'm asking because don't know much about that technical stuff :)
